Hollywood Park - Monday, May 28
$250,000 Grade 1 Gamely Stakes
1 1/8 Miles Turf
(Post Time: 8:10 pm ET)

The Grade 1 Gamely Stakes will be contested at nine furlongs on the Hollywood Park turf course. It is race 9 on the Memorial Day card. The late Robert Frankel owns the record for wins in this race at eight and jockey Kent Desormeaux is number one with six victories. The speed record of 1:45.07 was set by Toussaud in 1993.

BELLE ROYALE (Val Royal x Kahyasi Moll by Brief Truce): Is now a winner of four consecutive races after taking her American debut by a half length. The British import was second to a filly named Nahrain who is among the best in Europe. Belle Royale is still something of an unknown, but if her recent form is any indication, then she will be tough as nails in this spot. Simon Callaghan trains for Joel Rosario.

QUIET OASIS (Oasis Dream x Silent Heir by Sunday Silence): Scored in the Grade 3 Wilshire last out as a massive overlay of nearly 16-1. The Irish bred lass races for owner Paul Reddam and will be piloted by Mario Gutierrez. Ben Cecil is the trainer. Owner and jockey hooked up to win the Kentucky Derby and Preakness this month. Quiet Oasis hasn’t raced past a mile yet in her eight race career, but her pedigree indicates that she will relish the extra distance.

WILD MIA (Wildcat Heir x Love Mia by El Sultan): Saved ground to be fifth beaten two lengths last out behind Quiet Oasis. She has since been moved to the barn of top turf trainer Thomas Proctor. She is Grade 2 placed at the distance, but will probably have to step her game up in order to win. David Flores retains the mount.

NEREID (Rock Hard Ten x Dowry by Belong To Me): She was fourth by a single length last out in the Wilshire, a race that was her first in over six months. The Grade 1 winner figures to be much sharper this time considering the added fitness level and the extra distance. The competition that she has faced is unrivaled by anyone in this group and if she runs her best race then the others have much to fear. Mike Smith will ride the closing dark brown or bay filly for John Sheriffs.

BAUBLE QUEEN (Arch x Muneefa by Storm Cat): Won the Grade 2 Robert Frankel Stakes on New Years Day, but has been lackluster in two subsequent starts. The Eric Kruljac pupil failed to produce a rally in both the Santa Ana and Santa Barbara. Victor Espinoza picks up the mount.

CAMBINA (Hawk Wing x Await by Peintre Celebre): Dead heated with Nereid in last year’s Grade 1 American Oaks. Since then she had failed to hit the board until last out in the Santa Barbara. The deep closer is going to need a quick pace in order to do her best running for Rafael Bejarano. Jeff Bonde trains this chestnut four-year-old lass.

CAPITAL PLAN (Rock Hard Ten x Miss Dahlia by Strawberry Road): Progeny of Rock Hard Ten tend to excel on the grass and that is where this filly has found her home. Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer was able to get her first black type win last out when she annexed the Grade 2 Santa Barbara Handicap. Look for her to be on or near the lead under journeyman French rider Brice Blanc.

CITY TO CITY (City Zip x Stormbow by Storm Cat): Bit off a little more than she could chew last out at Churchill Downs when finishing last in the Grade 2 Distaff Turf Mile. Before that she was beaten just a half length in the Santa Ana Handicap and three back she won the Grade 2 Buena Vista Handicap at Santa Anita. Jerry Hollendorfer trains and Garrett Gomez gets the mount back for the first time in a long time. Gomez and City To City hooked up to win the Grade 2 Palomar Handicap at Del Mar last year.
