Bodemeister to show? What will it pay?

I can bet $4,000 on the show between a couple of places that are funded. What will I make like $400?

I would guess about $600 to $800. Depends if they are a lot of bridge jumpers on Bode.

You are better off to bet to Place. He either wins, gets nipped at the wire, and just doesn't have it. No way he will finish 3rd

Show bets are for the degens at the dog park, trying to pay for their beer.

OK I grew a tiny bit and dropped 1400 on the show and 400 on the place. Figure if he comes in 3rd what I make off that will almost cover my place loss. If he comes in 2nd it will be a good day.

Rather than bet him to finish in the money, bet him to beat another horse in a matchup. Bode beating Went the Day Well was -185. Went the Day Well finished next to last.

Offering matchups between two horses is something that makes horse racing much more interesting to the betting public. You can spend hours handicapping a race, only to conclude that the race has no value. This Preakness was a good example (superfecta paid all of $424, where the KY Derby paid about 100K). But with horse matchups a race always has value. Never again a waste of time on a race, and far more bets for the bookmakers.
