some of you may know or remember me getting in on a 2 y/o pacing filly last fall. well, somehow w/o making me a dime so far this girl's going to the finals of the Kentucky Sire Stakes. yea, its been posted as "My Play" for a few months now but to be honest i didnt really think she'd make it. if you saw her very first qualifier @ pocono where she broke stride about 4 steps from the wire or saw her get her ass handed to her a few times in cheap maiden races at the same track maybe you'd understand a lil better....or when she tried to go wire to wire in her qualifier at the meadowlands but ended up 5th in a 5 horse race
shipped to KY a few weeks back and piloted by mike lachance she took a 3rd and 2nd in her ($15K)divisions of the KYSS on the big oval of the Red Mile. im figuring Lachance will opt off for a faster filly and hope Lady Buckeye gets a catch drive from a name like Pierce, Brennan, Gingras, Palone or even (*hand on my chest) Mr. John Campbell ya never know, $2,000,000 (total card for 9/11) has a way of bringing in some talent
had you asked me when i sent in the $600 for the 10% of her purchase price if id be at the race if she made it to the finals ida told you, "hell yea, with bells on" but with Lexington KY being 600'sum miles or 10 hours from here im suddenly finding myself second thinking a trip out. she's in deep water with the other talented fillies in the field but shit, her main competition went off at 1/9 odds thursday and broke stride so anything and i mean anything can happen.
im just a working schlub with not a ton of work/$ right now with a possible "once in a lifetime" event/opportunity looking me square in the face. im thinking: drive out sunday-watch race-drive some of the way home-find hotel(or even in my truck), sleep and drive home monday. OR: stay the **** home and watch it on my computer/otb 15 miles from my house.-makes for a much easier ride home if she misses a check (6th or worse)
what would you guys do?
*thanks for listening guys/gals, im all balled up about this and kinda needed to spew my thoughts somewhere....lucky you, eh?
