my friend has a like a 50' plasma and I use to go over there and watch the races I hooked his laptop to it however his tv and laptop has the hdmi.

Thats what I have...a 50' Pioneer plasma..I got suckered into buying the $120 hdmi cables..I think the brand is MONSTER or something
