Preakness Analysis races 9-12 and PP

    ----------------------------
    Race 9 (6,2,7/4)

#1 and #6 should lead the race, the #1 doesn't have the distance to hold on, the #6 might hold, but the duel with the 1 could tire him out. However, if the #6 holds back and lets the #1 go, the #6 could win easily with mid late kick.

#2 and #7 will be pressing, should make up the second group most of the way, an dhave the best shot at overtaking the 1 and 6. The #7 late pace is huge compared to the #2 could come down to positioning around the turn.

#4 is a super late kick, if the #1 and #6 lead a super fast pace, and work the #2 and #7 to keep up in the second group, the #4 could explode down the stretch. Needs a perfect set-up though.

    6,2,7/4

The 6 and 7 are my two favorites here, both can make their own race, and don't need help. The 2 could press the 7 and they are basically the same price. The 4 is 20/1 and could be there, Turf helps too.
    -----------

    Race 10 (3/1,8,5)

#1 will jump out to an early lead, and at a good price, there is no one that looks to be able to go with him. He will be able to dictate the pace. WIthout other pace in the race, he could get going and not get caught.

#3 Everything we love poitns to this horse, Jockey / Trainer / distance specialist / super strong late kick, coming off big last race....you name it, this guy has it. I did the numbers and he would be a like a +12 in our old system. This guy should stay just off the pace and catch anyone down the wire. Heck he has the distance to hold the lead if the 1 doesn't jump out like I think it will

#5 Super late kick, but won't be up front...needs a perfect lane to form, but will scream up the back stretch. Could come away with a win! But it would take a good race. Price isn't right to worry about.

#8 second best presser, I don't see him beating the 3, but could easily make up the second half of the exacta or trifecta....a tough route by 3 could let 8 sneak away, but needs help from 3 to get in.

    ------------------------

    Race 11 (3,7/4,1)

#4 is the odds on favorite at a crazy ML of 4/5, from what I can see on Name only. He was a Kentucky derby favorite last year, but hasn't done a whole lot since.

#7 could jump out early and hold on, doesn't look like its going to have much pace to go with it. the #1 could go out as well, and they could hang out and take it 1/2 if the pace is slow enough.

#3 is the late kcik along with the 4, the price on the 4 just makes it tough to go with for much of anything. I really like the 3 here.

    -----------------------

    Race 12 (10,9,11/1)
This is a three horse race!
#4/#5 these are two quick pace setters and will set the table for a hell of a finish. Both of these two will go out strong and lead the pack. The 4 has NO chance of holding on, if the pace isn't flying I think the 5 may be able to hold, but I really don't think he will.

#10,9,11 are three of the same horse, the pace will set it up for a pressing closer, and not a stalking closer. #11 is Animal kingdom and will be looking for the triple crown, #10 is in line for a 5.5 million dollar payday with a win here at Preakness. #9 is basically the same horse without the 'need' to win the other two have. I would lay good money it will be which ever one of these three get the best route to the stretch.

#1 there is something about this guy, it lines up well. The last two races he has finished 2nd by a nose and exploded down teh stretch...I think if he can get a good route, he has a chance....the price could be great on this guy. I just dont know if the pace if fast that he has a chance to stay close enough to 9,10,11 to get one of those guys.

    Thanks for the write-up.

I found this clip on youtube that gives a pretty good analysis of the horses in the preakness. One comment I found interesting is synthetic track races typically start with a slower pace and pick up steam towards the end and this year's KD really set up well for Animal kingdom. I have Dialed In to win so I'm hoping for a faster start.

Saying Paddy O "hasn't done much" is nuts. After the Preakness, he went to turf and won 3 Graded Stakes and 2nd in a G1 vs 4yo. That towers over any other credentials here. I don't like the price off the layoff, but that horse is darned near unbeatable on Turf....as is the #3 Grand Rapport whom is 3-2-1 on the grass. As a lightly raced 4yo himself, he also comes in off the layoff, but you know Contessa wants him to win here, and he won twice fresh so far.
