Hey rthoughton, would you care if I kept track of how my dogs do in this thread as well? Figured we can just pool them all together in one "NHL Dog" thread...instead of polluting the NHL section...plus then we can compare and see if the matching games are working out better or what not.

    Phoenix +120

    1-0 +1.2

Boston cashed! Good job with Phoenix and Toronto too, guys! I didnīt like Phoenix at all, really thought the Blues would get it done. Liked Toronto, but couldnīt pull the trigger on them... Again, congrats!

Lots of dogs today. I like Calgary the best, make it a 1 unit bet. There might also be some value on Ottawa, Florida, Islanders, Minnesota and Edmonton. Well, I sort of like any potential dog today Which is always a bad sign. All of those seem too risky. Wonīt be around today to see your picks and get inspiration and feedback. So GL with whatever your plays are!

I like Islanders & Habs tonight. Don't waste your money on Edmonton. I know they're huge dog but still no value imo. Dallas -1 is better.

Yeah, it's whatever, man. Im glad you are interested in what's going on here. I think the thing that we are all realizing is that every day is a potential good day playing dogs. I was really worried about all of the games yesterday, so I took the best team on the board, and it was the only dog that lost.
PHX BOSTON (who trailed 2-0) and Toronto all hit.
This is proving to be a very profitable technique.
So, I took the lone loss last night, eh? ha.

I will post plays later on in the day, once the lines finish up.

If I could get Florida at +120...even +115 I'd play them as well...hopefully people start pounding the Caps so it moves in my direction.

I was just thinking... why does the +number matter at all when looking at the Panthers tonight? Dont they either win or not win? I mean, either way you are only risking 1 unit. Since it's a dog, I dont think the +110 +115 +120 means anything. They either win or not.
ANyway, Just something i was just thinking about.

Well...sometimes I look at value, but I understand what you're asking.

The Caps will probably win this game 6 or 7 times out of 10...BUT if they're is value in the line...then it might be worth playing, even though you think the % of you winning isn't that great...because if you do win...you got more $ than you thought you should have by taking it...

I think Florida wins this game 4 or 5 outta 10, so I think the line should be about -105 to +100...so anything higher than that would be a value bet for me.

If the line is right where I think it's going to be...I'll still probably play it, but I'm always looking to get more value than I think I should...

    Hope that makes sense.

This seems interesting. What criteria are you using to make your picks, or are you just pulling a few dogs a night out of a hat and hoping for the best. Please elaborate on what makes a team a good play for you on a given night.

I love the Isles. It's funny how the books continue to underestimate this team. The odds on them at home, is quite remarkable to be honest. Sure, the Canucks are excellent, but theyre only human, as we saw in their game against the Wings.

Leafs are sooo tempting once again but surely will be out of gas tonight. Two back to backs on a road trip is tough as the Isles found out.

Yea, I agree on the back to back road games...even though I'm taking Phoenix again haha...I think they have another great shot for a road win.

See where youre coming from with them and florida. But problem with phoenix is inconsistency at the minute...I think CBJ is better at home and wont be easy to beat but yeah, teams have won back to back games on the road before.

I think it's a little easier to win back to backs when the 2nd one is at home, though.

For sure...I'm taking a risk losing what they won me yesterday. This was in a model play that has been great this year...though I don't account for back to back games in it...in fact, I haven't kept track of how those have gone...bad capping on my part, but...this is part of gambling haha.

    Hopefully we all cash

The Islanders have been suprisingly good lately, but it's far more likely that the 16-0-3 (in last 19 games) Canucks are going to come in a devastate the mentally week squad of the NYI. Kesler is far too gritty and the injury pile up for the Isles can't sustain consistent wins. Kesler, the Sedins, and coach Vigneault are all gonna be pumped after being named to the All-Stars. It doesn't even matter if Bobby Lou starts tonight cause Schneider is a beastly 8-0-2 this year. Those Sedin wierdos are gonna come in and mindf*ck Kevin Poulin.

As for the Leafs, +187 seems pretty great. They're hot and Grabo is killing it like never before; Kessel named All-Star; dunno if Reimer's playing, but he's been pretty awesome too. I hate to put so much stock in All-Star announcements, but I think it will have some kind of impact. The Sharks have been so bunk lately its hard to watch, Pavelski injury doesn't help much either. Heater and Big Joe have been sh*tting the bed lately as well. As for being on the B2B, the leafs only have to drive up the road from LA, to San Josee = not that far. Leafs at almost triple your money was pretty epic considering the way each team is playing, if it goes back up I might take that ish, otherwise bun it.

The criteria is bias-based/opinion-based. I think what we are starting to find out (or hoping to continue to find out) is, tho, that playing 'dogs in hockey is the way to win. I mean, Look at the picks so far, and even more so now that Sparty is posting his as well; I think you start to realize that these win regardless.
Take last night for example. I didn't really feel confident in any of the 4 games last night, but played the Red Wings at a square -110 a side bc they were the best team of the underdogs. And what happened? Boston won. Phoenix won. Toronto won. My "safe" play lost. but the idea itself was 3 of 4. Ha, Im a bad gambler. But i think I may have unearthed something here.
There is also the 2 system thread I started shortly after.
    http://www.sportsbookreview.com/forum/hockey-han...-1-7-11-a.html

s2 (as sparty pointed out) isnt really profitable, based on his research it breaks about even. System 1 was born in this thread while trying to decide which teams to play, or picked-from-a-hat or whatever you say. ha.

If this continues to go well, it will become my game. **along with those other must-play events, of course.

    PLAYS FOR Tues JAN 11

    PHOENIX +105

    MONTREAL +120

    NY ISLANDERS +190

    TORONTO +190

Ok, so assuming there are 11 games on a given night, that is 11 dogs. What are you looking at to narrow it down to the three or four you have been choosing?

wow a lot of optimism on the Isles tonight. I don't understand why.
Poulin in nets for the Isles, a rookie with his 2nd ever career start. Combine that with the 3rd worst Defense going against the 3rd best offense in league and that results in a disastrous night for the Isles. I understand the isles are tempting at +190 in their own barn but the play here is
    Vancouver -1.5 +125

    Hi all once again,

Just wanted to chip in regarding VAN-NYI. I know why you'd want to back the Canucks, they're sh*t hot at the moment. @yungmef, LOL, thanks for the screenshot, LOVED that movie !! What was it called again?

Anyway, it's possible Isles get smashed but i don't think they are that mentally weak and they won't fear the canucks imo. Poulin is a rookie but that doesn't mean his inexperience will make him play particularly poorly. It's more of a value speculative bet but I just can't pass on the odds offered for the home team.....BOL though, but let's go Islanders!

I like the canes tonight with Ward in net after the layoff nursing the inj. I think he gives them the edge. I like the home team in that spot, that's why it's not on the list. Bias based pickin'. It dont matter, man. I think a lot of you are over-thinking this.
Look at the list of games, and hand pick some dogs. see how you do.
Let me reiterate, I know nothing about anything. I just think that I may have found a way to make a little coin.
The Track continues. And I will hopefully continue to win.
I dont think the Isles win tonight. They are on a list of 4 plays, are the lowest dog on the list, Im up 8.9u and if I go 50% tonight I add to that total.
Best of luck to the ones that you think are the best.

I haven't posted all my NHL dogs in this thread...in fact, I think the only 2 times I've mentioned who I'm on...it's 2-0...

But generally my percentage is around 54%...but I am only betting dogs with that number.

So is this the first time you've tried betting hockey? Because honestly almost everyone who makes money on the NHL season bets dogs haha...those who make money and don't bet dogs generally have other money magament techniques for betting favorites...

Betting dogs in the NHL is always the way to go...just keep picking winners!
