The Detroit Red Wings on Saturday signed their first-round (No. 9) pick from the 2017 NHL Draft, Michael Rasmussen, to a three-year entry level deal, the team announced.

The 6-foot-6, 220-pound forward is slated to captain the WHL Tri-City Americans for his rookie season. It’s the same club the center has spent the previous two seasons, where he’s flourished. Despite being sidelined for 22 games due to a wrist injury, Rasmussen’s 32 goals over the 2016-17 season ranked second on the roster.

He joined the club by way of the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft, when the Americans picked the Surrey, British Columbia, native with the seventh-overall pick. Since the 2014-15 season with Tri-City, he has posted a total of 98 points over 114 games.
