    Martingale + Elite Hockey Teams

    Hey,

I've read these forums for a long time, recently posted a bit and wanted to seek feedback on something.

I've heard nothing but negative things about the Martingale system (despite DoctorX's thread where it seems successful for him) and I'm not sure it's such a bad idea myself.

Now I'm not aiming to pull in large amounts in a short period of time, more so over the course of seasons.

In the NHL your top few teams will win 50+ games. Could you not chase them?

For example could I not go down 77.5 on SJ (-155) tonight, and if they lose continue to chase until SJ wins? Lets be honest here, SJ is likely to win 55 games this year and during the entire year have only lose 4 straight once and outside of that only had a couple 2 game slides. So it appears SJ would be certain to turn a W regularly enough to avoid getting past a Max Bet with the sportsbooks.

So could you not chase teams like SJ, WSH, over the course of a season with aims to pull in 50-100 with every go?

    Comments?

sharks have a 5-game losing stretch this season like a lotta other teams do. not sure if laying all that juice is worth it- having to double-down on what is already double what you expect to win.

plus to me, hockey is more of a game where you should pick and choose your spots and know when to jump in. there are a lot of close games in this league and because its so low scoring and the action is so volatile- you get a lotta 1-goal games and upsets . i think 5 outta 7 of last nights games were decided by 1 goal- and one of the two that wasnt was an upset.

keep us updated if you give it a whirl. goodluck.

    Thanks for your comments.

I think I might dive in for the remainder of the season on both those 2 clubs and see where I'm at come playoff time.

I'll update as I go along.

Any more comments would be appreciated.

Fours game slide with Sharks at -155
    Game A bet 77.5 ro win $50, lose 77.5
    Game B bet $197.63 to win $127.5, lose $197.63, total loss $275.13
    Game C bet $503.95 to win $325.13, lose 503.95, total loss $779.08
    Game D bet $1285.07 to win 829.08, lose $1285.07, total loss 2064.15
    Game E bet $3276.93 to win 2164.15.

So even if you believe a four game lossing streak will be the max, you will need a bankroll of over $5000 to be able to make a bet on the 5th game. To go to a 6th game you'll need a BR of over $13500 to place the game 6 bet. That's at -155 odds. Actually odds will be higher and lower but both of those teams are rarely ever dogs.

It'll work, but you need a large BR to do it.
