Going to track my NHL picks this year. All my picks will be in $100 increments.
This will be my first full season capping picks consistently.
I follow hockey religiously and live in Vancouver following my frustrating Canucks.
For those wondering, I use Bodog for my odds.
Follow or fade me through this fun season. Best of luck all.
Wednesday, October 8th:
Bruins/Flyers under 5.5 (-135)
No Krejci, Traded Boychuk, Rask is one of the best goalies in the world. Can’t see many goals here.
Flyers will play a tight defensive game on the road and both teams will struggle scoring. Risk $100 to win $74.07
Canucks (-115) to beat Flames.
Flames are awful. Whatever glimmer of excitement with Sam Bennett is squashed as he’s injured.
Where is Calgary going to get any offense? Canucks will be happy to start a new system with new players and a new coach. They have good success in Calgary. I see them starting off on the right foot. Risk $100 to win $86.96
Good opening night for hockey.
The under hit pretty comfortably in the Bruins/Flyers game.
Canucks game was closer than it should have been. Flames are looking pretty bad again this year.
2-0 overall
+161.03
Will post my picks for tomorrow.
Early leans: Devils, Stars/Hawks over, Avs
Hawks/Stars over 5.5 (-120)
There’s just too much offense on both sides. Dallas should be a high scoring team this year. Both teams have great top 6 forwards. Risk $100 to win $83.33
Devils (+105) to beat Flyers.
Tough spot for Flyers facing back-to-back stud goalies. I think we’ll see another low scoring game with Devils squeaking it out. Schneider’s first year as the undisputed #1 in New Jersey, and he’ll want to make an impact Risk $100 to win $105
Avalanche (+115) to beat Wild.
I really like the young Avs team this year to make some noise. Mackinnon is the real deal, and I’m not sold on Kuemper in net with the Wild. Avs have good scoring up front, so I’m looking for a W for Colorado. Risk $100 to win $115
Good win by the Devils. Wasn't expecting such a high scoring game, but I'll take it. Thought the Stars/hawks game would have had more goals, but what can ya do. Avs shit the bed. Underestimated Wild big time.
Picking the Isles winning tonight. They are the better team in every department. Carolina losing Jordan Staal is a huge loss. I like what the Isles did in the offseason. Carolina could have a nice game on opening night, but they've overall a bad team. Picking the better team to win. Simple as that.
Islanders win easy. They have a really good young team. Tavares and Nelson really impressed.
4-2 overall
+$146.03
Will make my picks tomorrow, but early leans are Anaheim, Philly, and NJ/FLA under
Chicago and St. Louis should be locks, but depending on juice, might lay off
Decided to pick Anaheim already. I feel like the line will go up, and really like them for tomorrow.
Ducks (-110) to beat Red Wings.
Anaheim should be a great team this year with Kesler now manning the second line center position.
They have 3 really good lines, and a deadly PP. They'll want to erase their loss in their first game against the Pens.
Datsyuk being out for Red Wings really hurts. Ducks should win this one in regulation, but will pick them puck line to be safe.
Florida Panthers (+105) to beat New Jersey Devils.
Was eyeing the under, but NJ scored 6 last game, and Schneider wasn't all too impressive. With the line at 5, avoided the total.
I like Luongo to get the upper hand on his buddy Schneider. With Florida at home, and at plus money, I'll take the Panthers
Im looking at Wild, hawks, rangers, devils tonnight, only thing that scares me is the Hawks ML, -250, I bet with a bookie and not online so a $100 bet for me means Win $100, lose $250, if the hawks would lose, what website so you use?
I use Bodog.... I could do the same... risk $250 to win $100.
I did the bookie thing too, but prefer online as there's more options.
Good luck with your picks. The Hawks should win easy tonight
Florida sure shit the bed. Thought Lu would play better against his former buddy, but oh well. Jersey looks great so far this year.
My other 3 teams won. A little lucky with Anaheim, but I'll take it. The better team won.
6-3 overall
+$232.55
Not sure if I'll make a pick tomorrow. Don't really like either game.
I'd lean towards the over in both games, but no play for now
Should have gone with my gut, and taken the overs in both.
I'll make a couple picks tomorrow, but liking another over in the Boston/Colorado game.
Colorado has to score eventually, right? lol.... Maybe the early game will help.
Anaheim and Tampa are my other leans
Both backups starting this morning.
Krejci is back in the lineup, which should probably ignite Lucic
Can't see Colorado getting shut out 3 games in a row
I'm liking the over even more now
Yes, I’m going with Buffalo. As horrible as Buffalo is, Carolina is just as bad. Eric Staal is out for tonight, so both Staal brothers and Skinner are out. At that price, worth a shot.
Yes, the juice is high, but Oilers are going to be without Eberle and Nugent-Hopkins. Kings have won 6 straight against the Oilers outscoring them 19-5 over that span. I don’t see why tonight will be any different.
Kings have won 6 straight against the oilers and out scored them 19-5 over that span. I see more of the same tonight.
Nice win by the Sabres. Should have done it in regulation, but Zemgus pulled it out in the shootout. This kid is good.
LA off and running already. Should end the night 2-0
Too much juice on the Chicago game, and I have a tough time betting on Boston at the moment.
Leaning towards taking Chicago/Calgary over, but will decide later
Rangers will come out strong at home. If Carolina can't beat Buffalo, I have no trust in them pulling it out on the road against a better Rangers team. Even if Skinner or Staal return, I see Rangers winning by more than a couple. Possible shutout for Lundqvist, who will look to bounce back after a tough start to the year.
St. Louis Blues +105
Risk $100 to win $105
This is just a gut feeling. St. Louis is on par with the Kings in my mind, so I'll take them at plus money in what should be a close game.
New York Islanders +110
Risk $100 to win $110
Another close game, so I'll take the home dog at plus money.
Took a day off yesterday. Wasn't crazy about anything NHL-wise, so focused on some NFL
Overall record 14-9
+$439.06
With only one game on the board tonight, I'm going to go with the home dog.
Edmonton Oilers to win (+140)
Risk $100 to win $140
No Hedman for Tampa will make a difference. I like Edmonton to get their first win of the season here.
Slight lean on the over as well, but will just pick the Oilers tonight.
And for tonight... sometimes no plays ... is the good play
No game catches my eye. Pitt and Anaheim have too much juice, but both should win.
Tomorrow's card looks sexy though, and I'll make a couple tomorrow.
