    NHL Free Play: Canucks/Ducks

In what appears to be the strongest division in hockey, the west coast matchup between the Vancouver Canucks and Anaheim Ducks will feature a budding rivalry in the Pacific. Vancouver has found themselves in a tough spot, struggling to stay within playoff contention despite playing decent overall so far this season. The Pacific Division is filled with top contenders, and Vancouver will have to be at their best in every trip to California, especially against the best team in the NHL.

The Anaheim Ducks are experiencing a season in which they are riding on a wave of dominance. Like the Blackhawks last season, nothing seems to go wrong for this Ducks team. Before their most recent outing, the Ducks were on a six game explosion where they scored 29 goals in that stretch. After losing their captain to an injury in the sixth game, their offensive momentum was disrupted. However, they were still able to grind out a 1-0 victory against Detroit without Ryan Getzlaf.

Today, the Ducks will have Getzlaf back, but the momentum and chemistry on offense has been somewhat killed. Tonight they will face one of the stingier teams in hockey, and a team that has realized that they need to play under Tortorella's strict and stingy system in order to be successful.

The Canucks are coming off a melee against the Los Angeles Kings, where there was a ton of bad blood. Penalties riddled the game as a result of the animosity, but both teams were able to play responsibly on their own end. The Kings ended up with a 1-0 victory.

Looking past that game, Vancouver will be aiming to stick to their system. They are well aware of Anaheim's deadly potential, as they learned just eleven days ago in their last meeting that a two goal lead is not safe with this team. Expect the Canucks to come in with a mindset of alertness, and the understanding that they are the underdog that will need to play their brand at it's best to defeat the Ducks.

In essence, the Ducks are well capable of playing a simple game when needed, but they will likely be the aggressor in this one. Vancouver will be firefighting the entire game. Unless multiple goals are scored by Anaheim early, this should be a tight game throughout. Vancouver should be focused in here, and even though they may not come out with the win, they should defend the ir zone to the best of their ability tonight.

    Love your write-ups Razor.
I was thinking the Under before you posted - just like yesterday's Ott-Minn game.
    Still contemplating.
    Thanks!
