Hey all, I will be trying my hand at betting the NHL this season. I only started getting into sports betting over the summer, so I'm relatively new. I think I've learned a lot about betting in the past few months, and I realize there will be lots of learning to do going forward as well. I'm a bigger fan of the NHL than any other league, which is why I decided to try this out. Over past years I've been very passionate about fantasy hockey, but who knows if that translates over at all. I'll be posting my predictions in the form of SBR spreadsheets. Lets get this going boys

Two offensive powerhouses facing off in Chicago, should be an entertaining game to watch. This one is pretty straight-forward, with so much firepower on the ice I can't see this going under.
I'm expecting a big year from the Oilers this season, these boys are only getting better every year. I understand they are currently dealing with injuries, with Nuge and Gagner out for a while, and Perron is listed as day-to-day for this game. Still, this is their home opener and they should be able to handle the Jets in regulation. This being available at +money looks like a gift.

3-way = win in regulation time. sorry, i'll change it in the future on my spreadsheet to make that more clear.
the lack of depth of course is something of concern for the oilers, but they do have 4 guys capable of playing down the middle right now. i would be more concerned if an injury happened right now to one of their centres and someone else is forced to fill in. taylor hall has looked good playing that centre position, and i think he's going to explode this year. the jets have a very mediocre defensive core as well, so maybe the over is worth a look in this game too
Tough loss on the oilers tonight, really thought they had it when they went up 4-2. Oh well, should have played the over instead. Here are three plays for tomorrow:
Red Wings (Regulation) -0.5, 1 unit play
Flyers (Regulation) -0.5, 1 unit play
Flyers/Leafs Over 5.5, 1 unit play

Well that was a pretty bad day... 2-4 was the record. Jonathan Bernier looked very solid in net today, Philly could have scored 5 goals easily that game. And just a plain bad call on the Ducks, I guess it's still very early in the season but Colorado is playing great right now.
Lots of games on the card tomorrow, shaping up to be an exciting night of hockey. Here are 8 plays that I've locked in so far, including my first 2 unit play of the year on the Capitals (in regulation). I will probably end up fading the Flames most nights.
The Canucks have had a recent history of slow starts, especially with Luongo in net, so I'm seeing this as a 4-2 win for the Sharks or something like that. The Canucks are my team though, I hope they can pull through with a win to start this year. Adding three more small 0.5 unit plays for tonight:
ML Parlay: Capitals, Coyotes @ 2.54
Wild ML @ 2.07
Home Goals -3.5 @ 1.9
Today's record: 6-5-1, but unfortunately due to the 2 unit play on Washington I'm still down 0.63 units for the day. Could have been a good day if they weren't asleep in the first period. I'll be back tomorrow with the spreadsheet and a few more plays
In the red again, down 1.3 units today. 4 days into the season, no time to panic just yet. There's definitely more dart throwing involved this early in the year and I'm hoping things will start getting into a groove. Just gotta keep grinding out these days and I hope I'll be in the green soon. I think I'm going to start limiting totals plays to 0.5 units (unless I really like one) because I'm having a harder time getting a hang of those ones. I'll be back tomorrow with an updated spreadsheet and picks
damn, down 1.28 units today. Thinking about laying off the totals for a bit, I just can't seem to get those right. Also probably going to start getting a little more selective with my plays, this season is a marathon and there's no need for me to be making so many plays every night. 2 plays for tomorrow:
Canucks ML, 2 units @ -136
Canucks Regulation -0.5, 1/2 units @ +117
not sure why the line has moved so much in the Nucks/Flames game, but I'm putting 2 more units on the Canucks ML at -114, bringing my total to 4 units @ -125. also adding a small play on Flyers ML, I think the Canes have a slight edge here but there's value in the line on the Flyers.
Phew, what a game! Glad the boys were able to pull through in overtime. I realized shortly after posting the play that the line movement was due to Eddie Lack, but I still would have rolled with him going up against the Flames (I know, easy for me to say after the game right?). Despite letting in 4 goals today he actually looked quite decent in there for the most part. Good for him, getting a win in his first career start.
Lost out on the Philly game and the Canucks regulation bet, but I ended up +3 units for the day. Be back later with tomorrow's plays
Blah, bad call on the Kings. Tomorrow's card looks promising, my early leans are on the Leafs, Pens, Wild, and Sharks. We'll see where the lines are at tomorrow
Ended up dead even on the day unit-wise. There was definitely value on the Devils ML when I grabbed it at +164, but I'm glad the boys got the win. I was just looking through my spreadsheet so far and noticed that for my 0.5 unit plays this year, my record has been an atrocious 5-16. Compare that to my record for 1 or more unit plays, which is 17-18-1. Going forwards, I'm going to try and pick out plays which I would have bet 0.5 units on and just leave those games. Tough to do, because I'm always biased towards my leans. Do you guys have any advice on how to pick your plays? I'm finding it difficult just sticking to 1-2 picks per day.
Adding a unit to Montreal ML at -117. Lots of value here as Montreal is a MUCH better team than Calgary, who have been playing over their heads to start the season.
just buried. if tomorrow is in the negative again I will probably just retire this thread. here goes:
Leafs ML, 1 unit @ +104
Bruins Regulation, 1 unit @ -110
Capitals Regulation, 1 unit @ -101
Lightning Regulation, 1 unit @ +102
Sharks ML, 4 units @ +108
2-2 on the 1 unit plays today and the 4 unit play on the Sharks came through. Cheers to Russian Rocket for pointing out that +money line last night in Nino's thread. I believe it moved to -110 before gametime. A couple of plays for tomorrow that I'm locking in:
Chicago Regulation, 2 units @ -113
Pittsburgh Regulation, 2 units @ -113
Parlay: Chicago ML, Pittsburgh ML, 2 units @ +141
down 2.26 units today due to this Zatkoff dude. tomorrow's card looks busy, here are the plays I've locked in so far:
will also be looking to make a play on the Blues once the line comes out
(sorry for the photo, but I had to take a screenshot because SBR won't let me upload the link right now)
Shaping up to be a great day finally. 6-1 so far (+7.24 units) and I just need the Sharks to close out two more 1 unit plays. I'll be back later with an updated spreadsheet and tomorrow's plays.
Also adding a small 0.5 unit play on Canucks ML, live after the 1st period @ +175
That weird ass goal really killed the nucks in the second period. 8-2 on the day, for a total of +8.95 units. This bring my overall record into the green for the first time since the start of the season. Hoping that things will turn around for the most part going forward. Only one play for tomorrow, taking the Kings ML. BOL everyone

Cash the Kings ML. Just one play on the board for tomorrow. I haven't touched totals for a while so I'm just putting 0.5 units on it, but I cannot see the Oilers/Caps game being low scoring. Two teams who have been struggling defensively, with a lot of offensive potential between them as well. Happy thanksgiving to everyone in Canada!
