Is Pittsburgh the most overrated nhl team ever? (pittsburgh haters check in)

15 or consecutive wins in march, 7 consecutive wins in april, 36-12 record for 75% win percentage during regular season (unreal). NHL historians check in. Is this pittsburgh team the most overrated team ever? or are they 2nd most overrated team only to the 92-93 penguins? Tons of star talent, but down 3-0 in the series. Crosby is a little bitch.

Ya 3 games analyzed by a Boston fan requesting the opinion of "Pittsburgh haters" is a perfect sample size and test environment to diagnose them as the most overrated team in NHL history.

You're dead on here keep up the solid work.

Not Over rated at all...simply getting their heads knocked off by a team who is playing better, is deeper, wants it more and has one of the best goalies in the NHL

Pens have the same problem they did last year, once doubt creeps in they fold like bitches.

    Soft team + mediocre goaltending.

not just 3 games. losing 1st round 2 years ago to TB, losing 1st round last year to Philadelphia (yikes), then getting blown out 9-1 over first 2 games, and now down 0-3 in conference final when they were a -185 favorite to start the series. Every year they are "the best team" yet they CHOKE CHOKE CHOKE. crosby is a little bitch.

    Just variance with Pittsburgh.

Marc Andre Fleury is overrated. The guy choked in game 7 vs montreal, looked bad against Philly last year and put up another poor performance this year. 6 million a year makes you wonder if they might use their amnesty on him.

When was the last time a team blew a 3-0 lead in the NHL and what team was it?

How dare you bring up 3 seasons ago! This is a well thought out thread being written by a homer with a future on his team. He is providing countless insights into the nuances and stylistic match-ups that will allow readers of this thread to profit. Huge contribution to the forum!

Kreiji got injured and if he gets injured again that's about the only way I see a collapse. Plus they added Horton and Marchand since then. That team couldn't score for shit unlike this team.

If the Pens are the most overrated then the Bruins are the luckiest team in NHL history

Down 4-1 against Toronto and fluke out a win? Bruins shouldn't even be here right now, lol.

There not overrated at all. Come on... the Bruins were 2 minutes way from losing to Toronto in game 7 (which it should have never gotten to that point) To my point, teams go through stretches which they play poorly and that's what is happening to the Pens. Also, the Pens outplayed the Bruins last night—hands down.

sure. which do you credit though, bruins for getting lucky, or do you blame toronto for collapsing? wasnt just luck they still had to put puck in net. didnt score of a bad bounce or get a lucky goal that shouldnt have happened. Toronto collapsed. sure they got lucky. but i think they got lucky that Toronto thought game was over and quit playing with 10min left in game. i blame toronto for collapsing more than i credit luck. when i think of "luck" i think of bad bounces, etc. Toronto collapsed. hands down. but it was a miracle comeback for sure.

it appears people dont hate pittsburgh like they hate the miami heat. i thought i was gonna make a thread with a bunch of haters coming in and making funny jokes piling it on pittsburgh. i guess all the flyers fans dont care about hating because theyre not in position since they missed the playoffs. it appears people dont hate pittsburgh like they do miami heat. i bet you if miami heat lose in finals everyone in nba forum will have the time of their life hating on heat.

its all in good fun. i actually bet pittsburgh -185 to win series at beginning for 450. looks like i am the idiot.

Just look at moneylines and series prices, no matter how many "stars" you have on one team you are at best -200 to win a game at home in hockey. This isnt football or basketball where top plays have a larger impact on the moneyline.

Its negative variance in a small sample.

Books had Pit -170 or so to win the series, thats all that matters.

As a team all you can do is build a roster that will give you the best series price possible, period. If you lose you lose, ever heard of a +145 dog winning? happens all the time yet people act like its some massive upset.

books had pit -185 to win series, boston +170. that was the 5dimes reduced juice line. bookmaker had pit -190. game 1 lines were lower. a -185 team losing series is an upset. but its not an upset because it was -185... just look at what pit did last few months. won 15 in row tied nhl record. then won 7 in row in april. won 75% of games this season. 75% = -300 moneyline. that is crazy. i agree that usually teams shouldnt be more than -200. but a 75% win rate corresponds with break even ML of -300. its insane how good pit was during end of regular season. doesnt mean shit now unless they make miracle comeback.

the "best team" and stanley cup favorite gets swept!

that nhl record 15 consecutive wins in regular season means jack shit now!

    Defense beats offense!

    pittsburgh is overrated!
