    Definite asterisk, much more impressive when you had to win in 60 minutes, but still a great record. I have finally come around to being able to like Detroit, pre-salary cap they were kind of the Yankees of the NHL(well, not that bad). They are my new binky team this year, making me money and fun to watch. Let's keep it rollin' Wings.

    I like the Wings as well. Howard, Conklin and McDonald doesn't come to mind as goaltenders who would lead a team on this kind of a run. Asterisk or not, that in itself is really impressive. No doubt the team chemistry is as solid as it comes right now.

    i would rather have an average regular season and win the championship than an amazing regular season and choke in the playoffs (2007 patriots).

    the ny giants are a good example of the former.

    but its still an impressive record no matter how you look at it, asterisk or not.

    opie, comparing this to Barry Bonds record? don't even know how to respond to that.

    3 of the 22 wins have come via the shootout, so yes, its a different record.

    With the parity in the league today, it could be considered even more impressive than the old record, which included wins over the California Golden Seals, Kansas City Scouts, and Atlanta Flames (x2).

    Gonna go out on a limb and say the Red Wings know the regular season means nothing. First round upsets to teams like the 06 Oilers and the 03 Ducks prove that.

    Except that they are usually (this year also) the oldest NHL team. Loads of talent, but maybe the grind of the playoffs are why they don't get as far as they had in the past.
