    Juicy Pre-Game Notes: WASH V LEAFS

    The Maple Leafs have bought the contract of forward Jeff Hamilton from the AHL's Chicago Wolves and he will play tonight when the Toronto visits the Washington Capitals.
    Hamilton's most recent NHL time came when he played 58 games last season with the Carolina Hurricanes, scoring nine goals. Hamilton played 70 games with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2006-07 and scored 18 goals and 39 points.
    ===
    Alex Ovechkin – who gave Caps fans a scare when he took a hard shot off the foot and limped off the ice early in practice – will play tonight against the Maple Leafs.
    For those keeping score at home, Ovechkin has 13 goals and 18 points in 14 career games against the Leafs. New Leaf goalie Martin Gerber is 5-3-1 with a 3.61 goals-against average and an .864 save pct. lifetime against the Capitals.
    We're just saying.
    ===
    Jason Blake, meanwhile, has 10 goals and 17 points in 30 career games against the Capitals. He has 12 goals and 27 points in his last 21 games.
    While Jose Theodore is 6-10-5 with a shutout, a 2.83 GAA and an .899 save pct. lifetime vs. Toronto.
    ===
    For the Capitals, this is the third in a four-game homestand. They lost the first two, outscored 11-4 by Florida and Carolina.
    ===
    Washington has 17 games remaining on its regular season schedule, and its primary goal at this stage is to regain and then retain the second place slot in the NHL's Eastern Conference standings.
    ===
    The Capitals' power play has been red hot of late. Washington is 10-for-29 (34.5 per cent) with the extra man in its last six games. The Capitals have converted 24.7 per cent of their power play chances on the season, the second best rate in the league. The Caps are 21st in the league with a 79.4 per cent penalty kill rate.
    ===
    Toronto's power play unit ranks 13th in the NHL with a 19.8 per cent success rate, although Nik Antropov was part of that. The Leafs' 74.9 per cent penalty kill rate is second from the bottom.
    ===
    The Maple Leafs lost a 3-2 overtime decision to the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night. That marked the seventh consecutive time the Leafs had to play more than 60 minutes to settle to outcome of a game, tying the NHL record held by the 2003-04 Edmonton Oilers.
    ===
    Toronto is 4-0-3 in those seven games. The Leafs are 2-0-2 in games decided by the shootout and 2-0-1 in games decided in overtime during that span.
    ===
    Caps F Nicklas Backstrom has five goals and 20 points in his last 16 games.
    ===
    With 56 points this season, D Mike Green has matched his single-season career best.
    ===
    Caps F Alexander Semin has six goals and 16 points in his last 11 games.

    ================================

    Whaddaya think?

    The Caps can take the Leafs for a ride down the Beltway?

    Either way this should get you started on the way to windfall cash tonight.

    The over is probably the play. 6.5 @ -130 is kind of crazy but I guess that tells you this should be a shootout....
    5-3 Caps would be my prediction.
    Maybe I'll check out the team totals....
