Following along but not playing. I gotta say 14 races should be a HANDICAPPING contest, not a "pick 30-1 morning line shots and crazy all in exactas and hope you get lottery lucky" contest.

Should definitely be a cap on payoffs per race to prevent such sillyness, let the real handicappers have as good a shot at winning instead of the "no handicap just close your eyes and pray" types.

Even if there were caps, my strategy would have been the same. the rules of the contest dictate my strategy. you should have participated in the contest. i would guess most that did handicapped each race and made their play based on the contest rules.

I can understand both points of view. This is now Horse Race Handicapping if you were playing your own money, but this is a contest that specifically gives you a set amunt of points to wageron each race. Anything can happen, so just accept it for what it is. This is not an insurmountable lead by any means. It is just a contest.

That should be this is NOT Horse Race Hamdicapping instead of now.

I can see the concerns here and there are ways to limit this more, but it would be a lot less fun of a contest. We could certainly lower the bankrolls to $10-20/race instead of $50, etc. It would give everyone less money to work with, less exacta combinations to use, etc. But it wouldn't be much fun at all that way.

I've been in my share of handicapping contests, like the big ones that Daily Racing Form sponsors and you'll find that you've got to take chances at high-priced payoffs to have any shot of winning. When you are up against 200+ people with 15 races on the card, sooner or later someone hits a big long shot and buries the rest. It's the same here - you have to take chances. Anyone grinding it out betting $50/win on the favorite or $1 EX boxes is likely not going to win.

The contest is meant to be just like a horse race - exactly that. Some guys shoot out and take the lead, while others can close strong hitting a big ticket in the finale. No lead is ever safe and likewise no one is ever out of winning this.

Have fun today, guys - I'm really looking forward to all the action!

If you're not on the list, assume you've got serious catching up to do.

Lol, 3 guys are so far ahead because of one shot in the dark, that about 60 of the original 80 players won't even bother following the last 8 races, that's your idea of af un contest?

Whatever. Those 20 or so remaining happy "bomb" hunting.

There are 8 races today with a total of $450 in bankroll available. I'd say that's plenty of ammunition for anyone to catch up - even if you are at zero now.

    Good luck!

That's funny, considering the leader didn't even have the "shot in the dark". And if your not looking for "bombs", or atleast a decent price, in the BC than you obviously don't follow it each year.
