Maybe because on here if someone retires without the set complete its void? 2 matches I can think of would be Klizan over Dancevic and Serra over Feli... And I'm sure Tennis channel gives you the points?

hard to do before the tournament.

Today I actually bet Ferrer over Murray but I lost major ground in this contest because I had Murray in it. Doesn't matter, too many have Nadal for me to get much out of this.

Yeah it's definitely a difficult contest. The women more so than the men by far but still it's not easy. That's why I was so excited when William Hill agreed to sponsor both of them so we could have bigger prizes.

It's funny how both of the contests always play out opposite to each other every time. For the men, no matter what Slam it is the majority of people take the Big 3, if not Murray as well, to make the semis so you really have to pick well before then to build some sort of lead. For the women someone's lucky to have 4 of 8 in the quarters, let alone someone in the semis so if you manage to get one or two right at that point you can win purely based on the way the rounds are weighted. I still wonder if that's the fair way to do it or if each pick should just be scored the same all the way through. A part of me thinks that some who picked at a high % should be rewarded but on the other hand, having the ability to pick the quarters, semis, finalists and winner before the tourney has started and the players have 4 chances to be knocked out is a big achievement too.

my problem was that I didn't have enough time to devote to analyzing head to head matchups. I was picking as quickly as I could because it was taking long enough as it was. Perhaps if I had actually looked at Ferrer/Murray I would've picked correctly. Oh well. The truth is, Ferrer, for all his clay prowess, had never made the semis before. In fact, he hadn't even gotten to the quarters since 2008.

So true. We get it pretty bad here in the UK because Murray is from Scotland and the tennis broadcasters want the UK public to believe that Murray is part of a 'big 4'. But the truth is that no matter how many Masters titles he wins or however long he is ranked 4 (or maybe even higher), he cannot be counted in that elite company until he at least wins one of the major events.

As someone possibly benefiting from the scoring system in the womens this time, I agree it might be weighted a little too high for picking the tourney winner. I have done terribly over most rounds, but if Sharapova wins I'll suddenly jump into top 3.

Was thinking yesterday that simply adding 1 more point onto the first four round picks, making them worth 2,3,4 and 6, might even it out a bit more. Would put someone like me more like 8th or 9th I think.

Although maybe it is right that if only 2 of us pick the winner, those 2 should be near the top regardless of how badly they picked early rounds?

It's a tough call. I'm one who usually picks a high % of women right but when it comes to the qf's onwards, it can go either way for me. That's why I personally find it so impressive if people can actually pick who makes it through that far with the women. With the men it's less pronounced because people tend to choose the same guys for the semis so those early rounds really matter. And which one of the big 3 you've picked to win it all

I've changed the scoring a few times based on feedback from people but then we finally settled on the Tennis Channel's system. Figured they had more brainpower to sort it out than we did. Maybe next time I'll ask everyone if we should drop one of the prizes and give it as a consolation to the person who picked the higher %. Or change the scoring altogether.

My stance, which is on the women's thread, is that the pure pick% is more impressive than the weighted rounds. I would support a substantial prize for the person w/ the highest %, or some kind of weighted score between the tennis-channel method and pure %.

yeah well the men's was different because you could nail it and still not get a prize

all 8 QFs and the finals

with the women the outcome was so unexpected...

I wish I had entered the women's instead!
