    run support

Does anyone know how run support is calculated? Is it calculated from when pitcher is still in the game or is it calculated for the whole game even when the pitcher is not in the game? Or would someone please tell me how it is calculated. Thanks

Honestly, I am not sure. However, what I am sure of is that this is a meaningless stat for handicapping purposes.

    Far too random.

Well I am not quite sure what you are looking for. The reason I say run support is meaningless is because a team's offense does not get better or worse depending on its own starting pitcher. So you need to look at a team's overall offense, not just in games started by a particular pitcher.

Would it be safe to say that the team as a whole my like one pitcher better than another

Bleh, I don't buy that. There will always be variance from a team's norm in some direction for one pitcher or another. I wouldn't put any credence to it and just use the norm.
