Highlight the cells, right click, format cells....select number for format.

I could never get Pinnacles numbers on a copy and paste to be other than text.

I had to e-mail the list to myself to break the formatting, then I could work with them.

you can get pinnacle by importing through excel, not sure about sbrodds

you mean importing from actual live odds page or from the matchup listing page?

an import into excel from matchup listings work just fine

Sometimes Excel is finicky with it's formats. Right-clicking and changing the format from text to numbers is *supposed* to change the format type but it doesn't always take place until you click a cell, hit F2, and hit enter. Try that trick and see if that fixes it for a single cell.

If so, then instead of hitting F2, Enter over and over again... highlight the column, find the Text to Columns Tool, and then just click OK without going through the wizard. That's the shortcut to F2'ing every cell.

    Hope that helps.

Try inserting column and formatting that blank column to Number first.

Then, copy VALUES of "texted" numbers into new column

An alternate route: if you have numerical data that is in text in a cell (and it doesn't have a dash in it so Excel converts it into a date), you can use the Value function to convert it into a number.

Right click on your imported sheet.
    select EDIT QUERY
At the right end of the address bas is a small OPTIONS ..click it!
In the next box, near the bottom, select DISABLE DATE RECOGNITION..

Close out and your troubles should be over...

    Good Luck with your action...

    Good hints guys, thanks.

Excel is bitchy with dates. I have always gotten rid of it through change - to space or through data/text to columns.

I do like excel though, I find it interesting.

Does first pasting it into notepad not work? Usually that or changing the properties of the cells [as others mentioned] should do the trick..

I could try that but then that will really add a lot of extra time and might get rid of the cell formatting completely

Note pad doesn't change properties in 2007. The ****ing cells there remember EVERYTHING. The only way I could get them to "forget" was through yahoo mail, mailing a column of numbers to myself.
