    hockey wagering question

hey guys, i have a quick newb question. what's the advantage of taking a team to win by -1/2 a goal? it's the same line as taking them to win in 3. i only see that option in 3 way betting, so i'm only assuming that -1/2 is for regulation only. am i wrong? thanks for any explanations.

Most if not all books only offer -1/2 on regulation time only

ok, for example, if i took the pens to win in regulation @ +125. what's the difference if i took them -1/2 in regulation @+125? they need to win in regulation either way. correct?

There is a difference. If you take a team to win even up in regulation time, and the game ends up in a tie, you push. If you give up the 1/2 point, you lose in some books, because your team lost by that 1/2 point in regulation.

At some books, regulation only lines are 3-way lines with the tie as an option. Based on what the poster said about the odds on -1/2 being the same as regulation ML, this sounds like a 3-way line.
