    Liars figure, figures don't lie.
    Men lie, women cheat.

Well, men cheat, we lie about it to.

Um, what were we talking about again, oh SQL as it pertain to sports.
Killer is a great site, I go to it every now and than.
My bread and butter is baseball, I use my own database.

One thing databases, stats whatever won't tell you, unless there were major injuries, the last game has no bearing on the nest game.
Also, trends can be useful, however if a team is 5-1 lifetimes vs. another team but three of those games were played ten or more years ago, the trend is meaningless. If team 'a' beat team 'b' 35-6 is a killer blowout in 1995, it's no relevant if team 'a' is playing team 'b' again tomorrow.

Point being, you need databases and stats as a tool to handicap, but you need to choose your stats wisely, use only relevant stats.

The operative letter in SQL is 'Q'
    Q Query

If a lefthanded pitcher is starting for team 'a', one thing I want to know is can team 'b' lineup hit lefthanded pitching.
If the aforementioned lefty throws primarily curveballs I need to know does team 'b' have trouble with the curve, or does the lineup for team 'b' hit lefthanded pitching well, does team 'b' hit lefty curveball hitting pitching well?

In MLB there are 30 teams, each team have 40 man rosters, that's 1200 players I need to track, even though only 26 of those 40 players are allowed in the dugout, current roster if you will, i still need to track 1200 players.

Last season, out of those 1200 players, 491 were pitchers I needed to track, of those 491 pitchers, 137 throw left, 354 throw right.
How do I know this? Easy, I query my database.

See where I am going with this.
With databases, and knowing how to use them, is most of the battle to successful baseball handicapping.

Simply put in laymen's terms, SQL is an acronym for Structured Query Language, it's a programming language used for managing data.
It's nothing new, SQL was first developed in the mid 70's when I was in grade school, I've been in IT since I got our of HS, I'm going to be 50, do the math, I've been aware of it for 30 years, without SQL, everything is guess work.

Nobody is telling you how to use it.
Nobody is telling you how to handicap.

My eight year old niece picks teams based on whose uniforms have the prettier colors, and I bet she can pick more winners than Johnny Vegas can, but since this is a SQL thread, I thought I'd contribute my two pennies and say it's a good handicapping tool is all.

How's it going Pablo, how was the weekend?

data basses are a tool but they do not work because each data base is done by certain people asking a QUERY like no way data bases work

i saw over at covers guys using data bases and they all lost each game 100% S/U and ats

WTF are you babbling about Bill?
Query is asking to pull up certain data I want.
Query means to ask a question so to speak.

    Please stop.

Anyone using spreadsheets is a jerk off

They just don’t have the power nor the speed to keep up with databases

    I was a math teacher
Before I got fired from missing CB radios

Before file clerking and after landscaping, or vice versa?

All I don is 'mine' for data that applies to certain situations and apply it.

Spreadsheet are too slow once you start building bigger files

If you’re going to use SQL, I would lay off JavaScript especially if you have a lot of formulas. Write it in PHP. It’s lightning quick. All I do is teach.

Gold with a random attack on "spreadsheets" lmao

What does have to do with anything?

What does "using spreadsheets" and "power nor speed to keep up with databases" even mean?

And how is that even related to being a math teacher?

    Laughing my ass off here.

Too bad none of that will help win at gambling long term, with very few exceptions and also perhaps to inspire creativity.

But now we have machine learning, so creativity is a different animal.

Also, that's not what I mean when I say stacking percentages.
