Approximately a decade ago I had some ramblings with regard to this topic, more specifically on the bigger picture quantitative approach in handicapping. Basically, I MOSTLY agree with the notion, but currently I am more optimistic about the quantitative side than I was 9 years ago, after spending about 8 of those years in academia.

PS: Be warned that I was doing a ton of uppers back then...
PPS: well... I still do, but also back then...

I have zero axe to grind with QH but all I do is randomly come across threads where a post like this will come up; BigDaddy, it's getting quite old. Especially from someone who I've never seen post any number of picks, let alone a winning streak. You'd think he'd at least he'd provide a handicapping analysis time to time of a game. Nope.

The fact is, beating sports is about discipline and hard work. You have to decide if it's worth it for you, and that ultimately depends on what else you do, or how far you have gotten, in life by this point.

RE : Is sportsbetting unbeatable ?

Sportsbook is more beatable than any other game even better EV than Blackjack Card Counting. The problems is all these tout services and data services are garbage. There are some nuggets. You have to grind it out just like Poker. You can get a little better than 60 percent if you are really good and put in the work and research the games.

Sports Options now Don Bet is good for handicapping NBA and getting early on injuries if you need them. Then there is Sports Insghts where the Weather Stats ONLY is the golden nugget. Other than that the free sites have all the stats and research you need but you need to put the time in everyday an research and have good money management. You need about 40 to 100 units where ever you are comfortable.

Rec bettors play forever, pros rarely last.

But you're comparing apples to oranges anyway... one person is spending on a hobby for enjoyment, the other is trying to earn a guaranteed income from a system that is designed to ensure they do not.
    Well said.

the more i think about it, i really wonder if -110 is beatable. can the market be that wrong?

and it's not like poker where you play against an awful player who gives you great odds...... even if there are clueless idiots in sports betting, there are on both sides and big pool of money trying to take advantage of them. so people are in competition with you which drives the spread to the correct level.

of course i'm talking about higher volume betting events. you can find all kinds of +EV bets with $50 limits.

-110 is beatable. Only need 52.4% to breakeven. throw in line shopping across multiple books and your breakeven win rate falls below 52%.
