Quantril certainly has better stuff. Not trying to rag on Joey, he is a really good 5th starter, but he is more of a "crafty lefty". Either way, it is nice to have a bit of quality depth.

The Braves have opened the season without first- and second-string catchers Travis d’Arnaud and Tyler Flowers, but it doesn’t seem as if either will be on the shelf for much longer. Manager Brian Snitker indicated Tuesday that the team could activate at least one of them before its game against the Rays on Wednesday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com writes.
Both d’Arnaud and Flowers have been shelved in the early stages of this season after exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, though neither player has tested positive for the illness. Their absences have left the Braves with Alex Jackson and William Contreras behind the plate.
D’Arnaud was a key offseason pickup for the Braves, who signed him to a two-year, $16MM contract after he enjoyed one of his best seasons as a member of the Rays in 2019. The 31-year-old, once a premium prospect, saw injuries weigh him down all too often as a Met during his first several seasons in the league.
Flowers, 34, has been a reliable producer for the Braves dating back to 2016, having hit .254/.350/.412 (104 wRC+) across 1,301 plate appearances in their uniform. He is also known as one of the game’s premier pitch-framing backstops.

The Friars look good so far JP. They are living up to the hype unlike the Reds who are now 1-4. It's early but I'd like to see what the Padres can do this year against tougher competition like the Dodgers because I think they're definitely not going away.

Agreed. The pitching has been lights out so far. Another big change I notice is that batters are taking pitches and working the count and drawing walks. I credit Tommy Pham, Jurickson Profar and Trent Grisham. All are new additions and really grind out at bats and I think the other young guys have taken something from watching them. I'm trying to not get too excited but there is good quality depth and more young talent on the way.

Yelich looks like horse shit at the plate.
I did say Cleveland is the team to beat in the AL Central.
The Reds however are making me look bad so far.
Even at 2 and 3 the Snakes are sneaky good.

    ...and finally....
    Keep it rolling SD.
Pads at 4 and 1 and I am rooting them home. Hard!
The front office there had and has a good plan.

The Giants expect to welcome back their missing corner infield duo, manager Gabe Kapler told reporters including Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area (via Twitter). Barring a surprise, Brandon Belt and Evan Longoria will be back in action tomorrow.
It’s generally promising not only that both players are now ready to roll but also that they only required the minimum necessary stay on the injured list. Belt has been working through a heel issue while Longoria is nursing a mild oblique problem. It seems in both cases the team has nipped things in the bud.
While the Giants aren’t expected to make much noise in 2020, it’s easy to overlook how important the season is with respect to these players in particular. Both have been highly productive players in the past, which is why they’re earning so much now.
Belt is under contract for $16MM annually in 2020 and 2021. Longoria is earning at a $15MM rate this year before successive $18.5MM and $19.5MM salaries (as well as a 2023 club option that can be bought out for $5MM, which the Rays will pay down by $3MM).
The Giants will obviously be in much better shape to the extent that these two one-time sluggers can regain some of their former glory. That said, it may be be tough to move a significant portion of these contracts even in the best-case scenario.

Nice job by Yastrzemski to hit one in the water to walk it off for the Giants against the Padres after the Padres led 6-2.

Look at all the games yesterday.

Snakes with Bummy carry a 2-0 lead into the seventh where the D-Backs 'pen blew it.
Rays carry a 4-2 lead into the sixth inning and lose 7-4.
KC blew a 4-1 lead in the fifth and lost 5-4.
We all know about the painful SD beat.
And the dagger.... The M's score five in the fifth inning, two in the sixth, two again in the seventh and surprise the Angels 10-7.
I hate those later fourth quarter field goals.

Meanwhile Bieber stating his case to be AL Cy Young after tying the record for most K's through his first 2 starts. You have to expect that elite aces would be ahead of the curve early into a shortened season and for the most part that's whats happening. I fully expect those stud hitters who are struggling to get it going sooner rather than later though.

Just one start into his tenure with the Reds, southpaw Wade Miley is headed to the 10-day injured list with a left groin strain, John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Miley joins righty Anthony DeSclafani (strained teres major) as the second member of the Reds’ rotation to go on the IL since last week.
The 33-year-old Miley, who put forth a solid 2019 effort as a member of the Astros, was one of the Reds’ many notable offseason pickups. The Reds signed him to a two-year, $15MM contract in free agency, but his Cincinnati stint has gotten off to an inauspicious start in the early going. The Cubs tuned up Miley for six runs (five earned) on four hits over 1 2/3 innings in his 2020 debut Monday. In fairness to Miley, though, manager David Bell revealed he “didn’t feel 100 percent and didn’t feel great” in that game. Now, the Reds are hopeful that Miley will return in short order.
Without Miley and DeSclafani, who Fay notes is doing better, the Reds will keep Tyler Mahle in their rotation behind Luis Castillo, Sonny Gray and Trevor Bauer. Castillo, Gray and Bauer have been excellent thus far, but the playoff-hopeful Reds have only mustered a 2-4 start.

MLB calls off Card-Brewers series due to multiple members of the Cardinals testing positive for the rona.

So 20% of the league not playing today. (Nats, Marlins, Jays, Phillies, Brewers, Cards)
