NFL Player News - Week of 5/13/19

    Courtesy of Footballguys.com

DEN - QB Joe Flacco only QB to work with starters

    Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis

Denver Broncos QB Joe Flacco will be the only quarterback that works with the first-team offense during offseason workouts, according to head coach Vic Fangio.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Drew Lock falling to the second round means the Broncos shouldn't feel any pressure to rush him onto the field because of a heavy investment. Flacco should feel more secure and the offense should be suited to his strengths under first-year coordinator Rich Scangarello.

PHI - QB Cody Kessler set to sign with Philly

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Free-agent QB Cody Kessler (Jaguars) is expected to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, May 13, a source reported Sunday, May 12.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kessler will be a lot cheaper than Nate Sudfeld even though he'll be new to the Eagles system. He could make the team as a third quarterback if the team isn't completely sold on Sudfeld to back up the oft-injured Carson Wentz.

WAS - Dwayne Haskins has chance to start

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Charean Williams

Washington Redskins QB Dwayne Haskins is part of an open competition for the starting quarterback job, according to head coach Jay Gruden.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Haskins is very different from Colt McCoy and Case Keenum, so Gruden will have to make some stylistic decisions based on how the competition is going. Recent history suggests Haskins will see the field by mid-season no matter what happens this summer.

DEN - RB Phillip Lindsay to be limited during OTAs

    Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis

Denver Broncos RB Phillip Lindsay (wrist) will be a limited participant during organized team activities because of his wrist injury, according to head coach Vic Fangio.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Even a limited role in OTAs is a good sign for Lindsay, who had a serious wrist injury at the end of the season. We'll be watching his progress closely with likely improvements in the Broncos offense (especially on the offensive line) fueling a more productive season.

DEN - Two players will be limited

    Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis

Denver Broncos TE Jake Butt (knee) and OG Ronald Leary (Achilles) will be limited during organized team activities because of injuries.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Butt might trouble making the team with Noah Fant now penciled in as the top receiving tight end on the team after Denver spent a first-round pick on him. Jeff Heuerman, Troy Fumagalli, and Temarrick Hemingway will be his main competition for a roster spot. Leary should be eager to get back on the field to benefit from the addition of Mike Munchak as offensive line coach.

MIA - RB Mark Walton among Miami signees

    Source: MiamiDolphins.com

Free-agent RB Mark Walton (Bengals) and CB Jamar Summers (Steelers) and undrafted rookie C Kirk Barron signed with the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, May 12.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Walton was a fourth-round pick in 2018 and certainly has the skills and physical ability to make the Dolphins roster as a third-down back. Seventh-round pick Myles Gaskin might have a tough time outplaying Walton, who was released by Cincinnati after multiple offseason arrests.

DET - Detroit adds pair of wideouts

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Free-agent WRs Tom Kennedy and Jordan Smallwood signed with the Detroit Lions on Sunday, May 12.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kennedy was a pro lacrosse player and joins Chris Hogan as NFL players who have strong lacrosse backgrounds. Smallwood spent time with Kansas City and San Francisco last year.

Mark Walton sounds like an episode of Cops. 3 arrests in the last year.

Only a matter of time until the next arrest.

    Tuesday Update

NO - TE Jared Cook's role to expand?

Source: The Times-Picayune - Luke Johnson

New Orleans Saints TE Jared Cook will be given the chance to show 'everything he can do' for the offense, according to tight ends coach Dan Campbell. 'The guy is over 30 and he still runs like the wind. He can absolutely smoke,' Campbell said. 'He's got 35-inch arms, he is long, and he is fast.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We've seen Cook finish as a top-5 fantasy tight end like he did last season for the Raiders. This is a much better passing game with the Saints, so projecting him for similar output is not outlandish. We like where he's going off the board right now. Cook has a current ADP of TE8 (6.10) in 12-team PPR leagues.

KC - QB EJ Manuel calling it quits

    Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates

Kansas City Chiefs QB EJ Manuel announced his retirement Monday, May 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Manuel spent all of last year out of football but latched on with the Chiefs in late February. Instead of competing to be a backup, Manuel decided to call it a day. A first-round pick of the Bills in the 2013 NFL draft, Manuel saw injuries and inconsistencies derail his career. He finishes with 3,767 passing yards, 20 passing touchdowns and 16 interceptions as a pro and a 6-12 record as a starter with the Bills and the Raiders.

SEA - QB Geno Smith finds new home in Seattle

    Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan

Free-agent QB Geno Smith (Chargers) signed an undisclosed contract with the Seattle Seahawks on Monday, May 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Smith will compete to be a backup behind starter Russell Wilson. The Seahawks have Paxton Lynch as the primary backup now, and Smith should be able to push him for the no.2 job.

BUF - Dawson Knox a matchup problem?

    Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills TE Dawson Knox 'demonstrated his athleticism and speed in the open field' during rookie minicamp and was able to beat safeties and linebackers in drills, according to Chris Brown of BuffaloBills.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Knox posted great workout numbers before the draft, but his production in college never matched that potential. We'll see if the third-round pick from Ole Miss can finally start to produce like he could in the pros.

TEN - A.J. Brown delivering on the field

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans WR A.J. Brown has been the most impressive player during rookie minicamp, in the opinion of Jim Wyatt of TitansOnline.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brown was arguably the best wide receiver from Ole Miss this year in the draft. The hype may have been around 'Mr. Universe' D.K. Metcalf, but Brown is more polished. It's not a surprise that he's turning heads early in minicamp. The Titans passing game isn't one we'll invest heavily in when it comes to re-draft leagues, but we certainly appreciate Brown's upside in dynasty formats.

WAS - Terry McLaurin making plays

Source: NBC Sports Washington - Peter Hailey

Washington Redskins WR Terry McLaurin and QB Dwayne Haskins were 'cooking in 1-on-1s' during rookie minicamp,' according to Peter Hailey of NBC Sports Washington. 'You could've taken the numbers off of every wideout and still easily guessed he was the one who played college ball with Haskins,' Hailey said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McLaurin should be 'cooking' in 1-on-1 drills. The guy is one of the fastest wide receivers to come into the league this year. Haskins knows that because McLaurin was one of his favorite targets in college at Ohio State. We love that this dynamic duo from college is going to get to stay together in the pros.

CAR - Will Grier catching on fast

    Source: Panthers.com - Bryan Strickland

Carolina Panthers QB Will Grier 'seemed to be picking things up really quickly' during rookie minicamp, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Grier is a mature prospect with the upside to develop into a quality starter one day. The Panthers will use him as a primary backup to Cam Newton in 2019 provided that Grier continues to impress. We love his mindset, skill set as a passer and upside in dynasty formats.

CHI - Chicago signs Riley Ridley to deal

    Source: ChicagoBears.com - Larry Mayer

Chicago Bears fourth-round draft choice WR Riley Ridley signed a four-year contract with the Bears Monday, May 13. Financial terms were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ridley is the younger brother of Falcons star WR Calvin Ridley. He's got good size, measuring in at 6'1" 199 pounds. He's not a burner, but Ridley knows how to use his body and concentration to win consistently at the catch point. He will compete in training camp for one of the final spots at the WR position.

CLE - Cleveland signs LJ Scott

    Source: ClevelandBrowns.com

Undrafted free-agent RB LJ Scott (Michigan State) signed with the Cleveland Browns Monday, May 13. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also waived RB Devante Mays.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Scott is your classic power back but he does have a receiving element to his game that could help him earn a roster spot. If you play in crazy deep dynasty formats, keep track of the Michigan State runner.

PIT - Pittsburgh adding WR Johnny Holton

Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo

Free-agent WR Johnny Holton (Raiders) agreed to terms with the Pittsburgh Steelers Monday, May 13, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Holton has plenty of speed and flashed a bit (mostly against the Broncos) in 2017. He spent last year on practice squads and was only targeted one time in one game. The Steelers have revamped their WR corps and Holton is going to be a long-shot to make the 53-man roster.

NYG - Two NYG picks sign

    Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants fifth-round picks WR Darius Slayton and LB Ryan Connelly signed undisclosed four-year deals Monday, May 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Slayton can get by the defense in the blink of an eye. He ran a 4.39 second 40-yard dash at the Scouting Combine earlier this year and that speed certainly stands out on film. Slayton does have issues with drops and concentration that will need to be cleaned up if he wants to play up to his potential as a pro. He's a size/speed prospect we'll monitor in deep dynasty formats.

BUF - Devin Singletary showing elusiveness

    Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills RB Devin Singletary showed the ability to avoid defenders in traffic during rookie minicamp, according to Chris Brown of BuffaloBills.com. 'There were times where he disappeared into the pile only to come out the other side and into the secondary on a few run plays,' Brown said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Singletary is not the biggest or the fastest running back. Instead of relying on those physical traits, Singletary is a natural runner with good instincts for the position. He also gets by on keeping his feet moving upon contact. We'll see him compete for a spot on the depth chart behind LeSean McCoy.

    Wednesday Update

CLE - WR Odell Beckham Jr. expected at camp

    Source: ESPN - Chris Mortensen

Cleveland Browns WR Odell Beckham Jr. is expected to report to the team's first organized team activities practice Tuesday, May 14.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Beckham seems to be re-energized after his trade to Cleveland. Working with QB Baker Mayfield should result in outstanding performance for Beckham and the Fantasy GMs who are able to secure him on their rosters. Beckham has a current ADP of WR5 (2.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

MIN - TE Kyle Rudolph hopes to stay

Source: St. Paul Pioneer Press - Chris Tomasson

Minnesota Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph said he hopes to remain with the Vikings but would like a decision on his status with the team in the near future.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rudolph has one year left on his contract with the Vikings. He's on the books for around $7.6 million and there is zero remaining in dead money. The Vikings selected Alabama TE Irv Smith Jr. in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft, and he should be groomed to be the eventual starter. That doesn't bode well for Rudolph sticking in Minnesota.

CLE - RB Duke Johnson participating

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson will participate in voluntary organized team activities Tuesday, May 14.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson's days with the Browns seemed to be numbered, and there was buzz about him wanting to be traded. The Browns added Kareem Hunt and he'll work into the mix after he serves his 8-game suspension. Johnson will work as the change-of-pace back behind starter Nick Chubb. When Hunt is back from suspension, Johnson's role should be greatly reduced.

IND - TE Jack Doyle likely to be ready for camp

Source: FOX 59 Indianapolis - Mike Chappell

Indianapolis Colts TE Jack Doyle (hip) remains on track for training camp, according to general manager Chris Ballard.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Doyle only made it through six games last year. The Colts had Eric Ebron break out in a big way, so when Doyle returns he'll be a reserve player with little fantasy value unless there's an injury in front of him on the depth chart.

IND - TE Eric Ebron recovering from groin surgery

Source: FOX 59 Indianapolis - Mike Chappell

Indianapolis Colts TE Eric Ebron (groin) recently underwent groin surgery, according to general manager Chris Ballard.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ebron was a monster last year and a fantasy force to be reckoned with...and he did most of that while battling various minor injuries. We'll know more about Ebron's status when training camp gets closer, but expect the Colts to ease him back into action.

SEA - Seattle locks up four more rookies

    Source: Seahawks.com - John Boyle

Seattle Seahawks fourth-round WR Gary Jennings, sixth-round RB Travis Homer and sixth-round DT Demarcus Christmas and seventh-round WR John Ursua signed undisclosed four-year contracts Tuesday, May 14.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jennings is not the fastest prospect but he can be a reliable possession receiver. Homer is a compact back with the quickness and footwork to be elusive in space. While not a pile-pusher, Homer is intent as a runner and not afraid to run inside. Ursua is a speed slot receiver who needs to learn how to run better routes. We'll watch all of these rookie in various degrees of dynasty formats.

NE - N'Keal Harry puts pen to paper

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper

New England Patriots first-round WR N'Keal Harry (Arizona State) signed a four-year contract worth $10,098,348 on Tuesday, May 14. The deal includes a team option for a fifth year and a reported signing bonus of $5,364,252.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Harry is an ultra-competitive wide receiver who can win at the catch point consistently. He's good when running after the catch and can turn short passes into scores. We're excited to see how Harry fits into the Patriots offense, mainly in dynasty formats.

BAL - Baltimore inks Joe Horn Jr.

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Undrafted rookie free-agent WR Joe Horn Jr. (Missouri Western) signed an undisclosed contract with the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday, May 14. LB Ejuan Price was released to make room for him on the roster.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Horn is the son of former Saints star receiver Joe Horn, and he tried out with the Ravens during rookie minicamp. The team liked what they saw and signed him to the 90-man roster. We'll see if Horn can make the Ravens practice squad in 2019.

HOU - Houston signs RB Taiwan Jones

Free-agent RB Taiwan Jones (Bills) signed with the Houston Texans Wednesday, May 13. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Jones is a special teams player and backup running back. He'll compete for a similar role with the Texans in 2019.

    Thursday Update

NYJ - Le'Veon Bell wasn't wanted by head coach

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets RB Le'Veon Bell signing with the team didn't please head coach Adam Gase, who didn't want to spend money at the position, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Just when you thought it would be a slow news day, the Jets are making waves on in the middle of the week. Former Jets GM Mike Maccagnan (fired on Wednesday) was in charge when the Jets signed Bell to a a four-year, $52.5 million contract with $35 million guaranteed. Gase has mostly used RBBCs in stops with the Broncos and the Dolphins, but with the Jets they should feed Bell early and often.

IND - WR T.Y. Hilton likely will be limited

Source: 1070 The Fan - Kevin Bowen

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton (ankle) likely will be limited during offseason workouts because the team wants him to rest after dealing with ankle injuries last season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hilton is a seasoned pro and the Colts don't need him to get every rep out there. It's smart to manage his practice time in an effort to have him fresh for (and during) the regular season. Hilton has a current ADP of WR10 (3.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

CIN - TE Tyler Eifert taking part in workouts

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Fletcher Page

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (ankle) said he has been able to most of the drills during the offseason workouts.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's news when Eifert is participating in workouts. Everyone knows he's talented but he's as oft-injured as you can get. He's only played in 14 games over the last three years and has never played a full 16-game season. Eifert said he hopes to be 100 percent healthy for the start of training camp.

    MIA - Two players limited

Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Miami Dolphins WR Jakeem Grant (Achilles) and DE Charles Harris (wrist) were limited during practice Tuesday, May 14.

Grant didn't tear his Achilles' but did require lower leg surgery last November. He expects to be ready for training camp.

MIA - WR Albert Wilson misses practice

Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Miami Dolphins WR Albert Wilson (hip) did not participate in practice Tuesday, May 14, because he is still recovering from a hip injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wilson made it through seven games last year for the Dolphins before this hip injury landed him on Injured Reserve. He didn't require surgery but is still recovering with an eye on returning for training camp.

DAL - No surgery for Mike Weber

    Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Dallas Cowboys RB Mike Weber (knee) will not undergo knee surgery at this point. The team hopes rest and rehab will help Weber recover but is not ruling out surgery later this offseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The rookie from Ohio State went down in practice over the weekend. The team will monitor his recovery and hope that rest can heal him properly. Weber is an instinctive runner who doesn't stand out with speed or power. When healthy, we'll see the Cowboys 2019 seventh-round pick compete with guys like Tony Pollard and Darius Jackson to establish the pecking order behind starter Ezekiel Elliott.

    Friday Update

MIA - QB Ryan Fitzpatrick working with starters

Source: Miami Herald - Adam Beasley

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick took reps with the first-team offense during OTAs Tuesday, May 14.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Zero surprise here. Fitzpatrick is the seasoned veteran while his main competition, Josh Rosen, is a second-year player coming from another system. Rosen should get the chance to start at some point in 2019. We'll see if and how long Fitzpatrick can hold him off from the top spot on the depth chart.

CLE - RB Duke Johnson not at OTAs

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson missed voluntary OTAs for the second day in a row Wednesday, May 15.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's 'Duke Johnson Watch 2019' every day at Browns OTAs. Johnson is missing voluntary work, so there will be no fines associated with his absence. The team should use him as a change-of-pace back behind Nick Chubb for at least half the season. When Kareem Hunt comes back from his 8-game suspension then it should greatly cut into Johnson's playing time.

SF - 3-headed RB monster in San Fran?

Source: San Francisco Chronicle - Eric Branch

San Francisco 49ers RB Matt Breida said Wednesday, May 15, the team could feature a three-man running back rotation also involving Jerick McKinnon and Tevin Coleman. 'They've talked to us about it,' Breida said. 'They've said, 'Hey, we're going to use all you guys.' All three of us are going to be used a lot. I don't want to give away any secrets, but we're all going to be used in the offense.' It's still too early/unclear how snaps will be divided.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This would be a problem for Fantasy GMs trying to manage a weekly starting lineup. We'll get a better feel about this clear RBBC in training camp and the preseason. At this time, the earliest drafted 49ers running back is Tevin Coleman at RB30 (6.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Denver Broncos QB Drew Lock says fellow QB Joe Flacco has been a positive influence this offseason. 'He's taught me a lot so far,' Lock said. 'He's dealing with trying to win football games, and I'm dealing with trying to learn. We're in the same quarterback room. He's been great to me.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Flacco said earlier this week that it was not his job to mentor Lock and that has created a lot of buzz on sports talk shows. It's not a big deal, as Flacco is known as a great teammate -- it just means that Lock has a responsibility (as well as the Broncos coaching staff) to get ready for the pros. Lock is not a threat to Flacco in 2019 and won't see the field as a rookie unless Flacco is banged up.

MIN - TE Kyle Rudolph declines pay cut

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Sid Hartman

Minnesota Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph declined to take a pay cut, but he hopes to remain with the team. 'No, I won't,' Rudolph said. 'I'm too young for that.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rudolph is on the books for $7.2 million in 2019. The Vikings don't want to extend him or they would've done that already. They're making plans for the future as they selected Alabama TE Irv Smith Jr. in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft. We'll see if the Vikings can resolve this situation by trading or releasing Rudolph. Stay tuned.

SEA - D.K. Metcalf could start as rookie

    Source: 1 No Source

Seattle Seahawks WR D.K. Metcalf was impressive during the team's rookie minicamp, according to the Washington Post's John Clayton, who said it was the best showing seen at a Seattle rookie camp since QB Russell Wilson back in 2012. Clayton added that Metcalf did so well that the team could start him on the outside and slide WR Tyler Lockett into the slot.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's certainly a lot of hype around Metcalf. There was in the draft and now that is continuing in minicamp. We'll see when we get to training camp and the preseason if Metcalf can live up to the hype. He's big and fast and a potential red-zone threat for Wilson and the Seahawks passing game. We'll monitor this situation closely as the season draws near.

DEN - TE Jake Butt hoping for training camp

    Source: BSNDenver.com - Zac Stevens

Denver Broncos TE Jake Butt (knee) will 'hopefully' be ready to return by the start of training camp, according to head coach Vic Fangio.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Butt is out there at Broncos OTAs putting in some limited work. He does look good in drills and we'll have to see if he continues along well in his recovery. Butt is a talented 'Y' tight end with all-purpose ability. However, the Broncos selected Noah Fant (Iowa) in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft and he could be the leading receiver at the TE position for Denver this season.

CLE - WR Antonio Callaway showing off explosiveness

    Source: ClevelandBrowns.com - Andrew Gribble

Cleveland Browns WR Antonio Callaway has 'added some explosiveness,' according to head coach Freddie Kitchens.'He is in good shape relative to what he was in last year during training camp. He has added some explosiveness. He has been catching the ball really well. He is doing a good job. Just like everybody else, he has to continue,' Kitchens said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Callaway is one of the most explosive players on the Browns roster and in the entire NFL honestly. We'll see if the revamped Browns offense can utilize him even more this season. A fourth-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft, Callaway has flex appeal as a WR4 for Fantasy GMs this year. He's the no.3 WR for Cleveland behind Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry.

The Jets put a second-round tender on Anderson and he signs a one-year deal worth $3.1 million with this move. Anderson should be able to produce like a WR3 for Fantasy GMs at least this year.

Tolliver was an undrafted free agent for the Cardinals in 2018 coming out of Arkansas-Monticello. He was a touchdown hog in college and has good size at 6'3" 213 pounds. We'll watch him in crazy deep dynasty formats.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news here. The rookie duo is the future for the Broncos. Fant should be a favorite target of QB Joe Flacco this year and Lock waits behind Flacco in 2019.

Former All-Pro WR/KR Dexter McCluster is signing with the Massachusetts Pirates of the National Arena League Thursday, May 16.

A second-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2010, McCluster has been out of the league since 2016 when he was with the Chargers. He played four games in the 2018 season for the Toronto Argonauts and now is trying to get some attention in the National Arena League.

Scott just signed with the Browns earlier in the week. He decided that football was not for him just two days into his time with Cleveland. The Browns have yet to make an official roster move, so perhaps Scott could change his mind.

IND - WR Deon Cain still on the mend

    Source: Colts.com - Andrew Walker

Indianapolis Colts WR Deon Cain's (knee) recovery from knee surgery is going well, according to general manager Chris Ballard, but Ballard said Cain isn't likely to return to full strength until midway through the regular season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's about the same thing we've heard all offseason about Cain's recovery. He may not be full strength until midway through the regular season, but we could see Cain at some point in training camp and the preseason. A sixth-round pick out of Clemson in 2018, Cain's rookie season was cut short in August last year. We love his upside in dynasty leagues and will continue to monitor him in those formats.

I think I would play Rosen from the start and have Fitz as the backup .

    Saturday Update

NYG - Daniel Jones impressing teammate

    Source: NJ.com - Matt Lombardo

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones has impressed teammate TE Evan Engram. in OTAs so far. 'He's picking up [the offense] really fast,' Engram said Thursday, May 16.. 'They've been trying to throw some stuff at him, and he's handled it really well.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The pick of Jones has been poked fun at plenty by those on social networking and in the media. Jones could quiet all the doubters with strong play for the Giants when he's ready to start. It's just OTAs but this is a good sign. It doesn't mean Jones was the right pick or he'll be great or anything like that. Jones is athletic as a runner but inconsistent as a passer. We'll see if he can clean up his game and actually push Eli Manning for the starting job in the near future.

MIN - TE Kyle Rudolph has received contract offer

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio

Minnesota Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph has been offered a five-year contract extension, but the two sides have not made much progress in talks, according to a source. Rudolph would be paid among the top tight ends in the NFL if he signed the extension.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rudolph refused to take a pay cut because he said he was 'too young' to do that. With an extension being offered we could see a resolution to this in the near future. Rudolph is in the final year of his deal and has a cap number of $7.2 million in 2019. An extension for Rudolph would be a negative hit on the dynasty stock of second-round rookie TE Irv Smith Jr.

HOU - TE Ryan Griffin done in Houston

    Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates

Houston Texans TE Ryan Griffin was released Friday, May 17.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A sixth-round pick for the Texans in the 2013 NFL draft, Griffin usually catches around 20 or so passes each season -- although there was the one year (2016) when he caught 50 passes for the Texans. His standing with the team was on shaky ground after Griffin was charged with vandalism and public intoxication after allegedly punching through a window at his Nashville hotel in late April. The Texans move forward with Jordan Thomas and rookie Kahale Warring as the top two options at the position. Griffin should get another shot before training camp.

BAL - Baltimore playing it safe with Miles Boykin

Source: The Athletic - Jeff Zrebiec

Baltimore Ravens third-round WR Miles Boykin (hamstring) is expected to be handled cautiously during OTAs next week as he works through a minor hamstring injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Boykin was their third-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft. During his time at Notre Dame, Boykin used his size and speed to make big plays. He'll need to develop better separation at the pro level, but Boykin can win at the catch point. The Ravens have reworked their WR corps this offseason looking for weapons in the passing game. Boykin could be a favorite target for QB Lamar Jackson when healthy.

Baltimore Ravens first-round WR Marquise Brown (foot) will not be on the field for OTAs as he continues his recovery from Lisfranc surgery.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This was expected when 'Hollywood' Brown was drafted. Brown had surgery back in February and has not suffered any known setbacks in his recovery. He should be ready to go by training camp and could immediately be one of the most dynamic players on the team when healthy.

BAL - WR Michael Floyd joining Ravens

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Free-agent WR Michael Floyd (Redskins) agreed to an undisclosed deal with the Baltimore Ravens Friday, May 17. The deal is pending a physical.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's amazing that Floyd keeps getting shots in the NFL. This is his fifth team in four years and Floyd just has 20 catches over the last two seasons. The Ravens don't have a stable wide receiving corps but they do have some young talent that could take over. Floyd might stick as veteran depth in the room, but he's not a lock for the 53-man roster.

Crazy deep dynasty GMs can keep track of this former CFL standout. Mitchell was undrafted out of Northwestern State back in 2016 but he caught on with the Edmonton Eskimos that year and spent three seasons in Canada. The Cardinals signed him to a futures contract back in January but he was waived about a week ago. Now, he's getting a shot in Tampa.

SF - Deebo Samuel ready to produce?

Source: 710 ESPN Seattle - John Clayton

San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel should provide 'instant production' in head coach Kyle Shanahan's offense, according to John Clayton of 710 ESPN Seattle.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We love Samuel and his bully mentality on the football field. He's tough to bring down after the catch and he fights to win at the catch point consistently. Samuel is a strong slot receiver but reports out of San Francisco suggest they'll try him on the outside. He's a rookie receiver to watch in deeper re-draft leagues and most certainly scoop him up everywhere you can in dynasty formats.

KC - WR Dwayne Bowe to retire with Kansas City

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bowe hadn't played in the NFL since 2015 during his one season with the Browns. His career had some highlights, including a 2010 season where he had over 1,100 yards receiving and a whopping 15 touchdowns. However, things fell apart towards the end and that's the way many may remember him. A first-round pick of the Chiefs in the 2007 NFL draft, Bowe now officially moves on to the next chapter of his life.

    Sunday Update

NYJ - NYJ targeting QB Peyton Manning?

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio

Former QB Peyton Manning is being rumored to be a target for the New York Jets' general manager vacancy. Manning played under head coach Adam Gase with the Denver Broncos and fits the mold the team is seeking. 'It's more than a talent-evaluation guy,' Jets CEO Christopher W. Johnson said. 'I want a great manager, a communicator, who can collaborate well with the building. I'm convinced we're going to find that person.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Manning is destined to run a team some day. First, perhaps as a general manager. Then, we could see him as a team owner one day. Manning is all about football and has a great relationship with Adam Gase. He's turned down other job offers, both in the media and NFL front offices, so we'll see if the Jets offer is more enticing to the future Hall of Fame quarterback.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is Floyd's fifth team in the last four years. We'll see if he can stay healthy and work his way up the depth chart. The Ravens have continued to revamp their WR corps as they look for quality weapons to put around QB Lamar Jackson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Perriman got a fresh start with the Browns in 2018 and he was going to stay for the 2019 season on a one-year, $4 million deal. Instead, the Browns traded for Odell Beckham Jr. and Perriman wanted out. We'll see if he can thrive in the downfield passing game Bucs head coach Bruce Arians is known for. Perriman is likely fourth on the depth chart at this time.

BUF - Christian Wade shows his potential

    Source: WKBW.com - Joe Buscaglia

Buffalo Bills RB Christian Wade showed that the same abilities that made him a rugby star could translate to the NFL with his performance during rookie minicamp, in the opinion of Joe Buscaglia of WKBW.com. 'He showed great speed with the ball in his hands, the ability to set defenders up to make them miss, and a natural vision down the field,' Buscaglia said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wade was assigned to the Bills back in April as part of the NFL's International Player Pathway Program. As a rugby star, you already know that Wade is tough and not afraid of contact. Wade played at the highest rugby levels in the UK but retired in 2018 to pursue a career in the NFL. We love his story and are excited to see if he can make the 53-man roster. Monitor him in deep dynasty formats.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thompson has the makings to be a perfect change-of-pace back for the Chiefs. He's 5'8" 200 pounds and doesn't shy away from running inside. He's got great feet and that helps him run through trash or set up defenders in the open field. We'll keep an eye on him in PPR dynasty formats.

Minnesota Vikings RB Alexander Mattison 'looked shifty coming out of the backfield' at rookie minicamp, according to Eric Smith of Vikings.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Some in the scouting community compare Mattison's game to former Ravens running back Alex Collins. A third-round pick out of Boise State in the 2019 NFL draft, Mattison is a rhythm runner who can handle a large workload. He's not going to 'wow' you with speed, but he runs with great intent and has a good feel for running inside. Mattison is also a capable receiver out of the backfield. He's going to push for playing time this year, likely as the primary backup to Dalvin Cook.

MIN - Olabisi Johnson flashes potential

    Source: Vikings.com - Eric Smith

Minnesota Vikings WR Olabisi Johnson 'stood out' in one-on-one drills and made big plays during team drills during rookie minicamp, according to Eric Smith of Vikings.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson always looked solid on tape during his college career at Colorado State, playing alongside players like Rashard Higgins, Preston Williams and Michael Gallup. He's a nuanced route runner who is tough and not afraid to go over the middle. Johnson can also help out on specials teams as a return man or gunner.

CAR - Terry Godwin makes early impressiong

    Source: Panthers.com - Bill Voth

Carolina Panthers WR Terry Godwin 'seemed to catch everything thrown his way' during rookie minicamp, according to Bill Voth of Panthers.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Godwin was a seventh-round pick for the Panthers in the 2019 NFL draft. Coming out of Georgia, Godwin did some good things in the pre-draft process. He was outstanding out the East-West Shrine Game practices and is one of the most natural receivers in his class. Godwin is not the biggest receiver and will struggle against more physical coverage. However, he is fluid in his routes and has soft hands and good concentration. We'll monitor him in deep dynasty formats.

CLE - WR Jarvis Landry nursing injury

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns WR Jarvis Landry (undisclosed) said he has been held out of spring practices because of a minor injury. 'Everything's going well, man,' Landry said. 'And then when I get my opportunity to go out there and practice, I will and it'll be back to normal and fun.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Browns are just being cautious here. In 2018, Landry's first season with the Browns, his production on the field was inconsistent. Landry will benefit from the presence of Odell Beckham Jr. this season. That will take the coverage away from Landry and open him up further for the best part of his game -- running after the catch. Landry has a current ADP of WR22 (5.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.
