NFL Player News - Week 17

    Courtesy of Footballguys,com

LAR - RB Todd Gurley could sit finale

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) could miss the season finale in Week 17. The Rams need a win to secure home-field advantage.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The 49ers are coming up for the Rams in the regular season finale. Gurley missed Week 16 against the Cardinals and his backup, the newly acquired C.J. Anderson, rushed for 167 yards and one touchdown. Anderson is a seasoned veteran and could easily be relied on again if the team wants Gurley to get some more rest before the playoffs.

IND - TE Eric Ebron in protocol

Source: 1070 The Fan - Kevin Bowen

Indianapolis Colts TE Eric Ebron (concussion) is going through the concussion protocol and his status for Week 17 is uncertain, according to head coach Frank Reich.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll have to see if Ebron can get cleared from the protocol at some point during the week of practice. The Colts travel to play the Titans in Week 17.

NYJ - WR Jermaine Kearse undergoing tests

Source: New York Post - Brian Costello

New York Jets WR Jermaine Kearse (Achilles') suffered an Achilles' tendon injury in Week 16 and is undergoing tests.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We don't think Kearse plays again this season. With a week to go, the Jets may just shut down the soon-to-be free agent.

PHI - WR Mike Wallace returns from IR

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Philadelphia Eagles WR Mike Wallace (leg) was activated from the Reserve/Injured list Monday, Dec. 24. Additionally, CB Josh Hawkins is being promoted from the practice squad to the active roster.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wallace could actually play a role for the Eagles in Week 17. His deep speed is a welcome asset for the offense as Wallace could take the top off the defense while clearing out space underneath.

SEA - Pete Carroll signs extension

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll signed a multi-year contract extension through the 2021 season Monday, Dec. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Carroll just keeps getting Seattle to the postseason. He's been there as the head coach since 2010 and have reached the playoffs in seven of those seasons. This year, Seattle is on a roll with another postseason trip looming.

ATL - RB Tevin Coleman should play

    Source: AtlantaFalcons.com - Kelsey Conway

Atlanta Falcons RB Tevin Coleman (groin) has a good chance to play in the season finale despite suffering a strained groin in Week 16, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Coleman could be somewhat limited by this injury during the week of practice. The Falcons have Brian Hill to get carries if Coleman is down. Hill might work into the mix anyway due to his 100-yard rushing performance on Sunday.

SF - RB Matt Breida to sit out season finale

Source: NBC Sports Bay Area - Matt Maiocco

San Francisco 49ers RB Matt Breida (ankle) will not play in Week 17 against the Los Angeles Rams.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Breida has been bothered by this ankle injury for some time. Without Breida, the 49ers turn to Jeffrey Wilson Jr. in the season finale against the Rams in Week 17

PHI - TE Zach Ertz in record book

Source: NBC Sports Philadelphia - Reuben Frank

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz beat former Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten's single-season receptions record in Week 16. Ertz has 113 catches with one game left, besting Witten's 110 catches in 2012.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The tight end position has been brutal for Fantasy GMs in 2018 but Ertz was a rock star. He's a centerpiece of the Eagles offense and should continue as that in 2019.

SEA - RB Rashaad Penny likely back for season finale

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny (knee) should come 'roaring back' in Week 17 against the Arizona Cardinals, according to head coach Pete Carroll.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Penny hasn't played since Week 14 against the Vikings. The rookie first-round pick out of San Diego State was supposed to be the lead back for Seattle but that didn't happen. Instead, Chris Carson took the job and ran for over 1,000 yards so far with a game to go. Penny has dynasty value but it's not as high as it once was.

CLE - RB Nick Chubb eyeing unique achievement

    Source: USA TODAY Fantasy Sports

Cleveland Browns RB Nick Chubb needs 28 rushing yards to become the second rookie running back in NFL history to achieve 1,000 rushing yards and 10 total touchdowns on fewer than 200 carries. After Week 17, Chubb will have started in only nine games.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Browns began the season with Carlos Hyde as their lead back. He was traded away and Chubb took over in a big way. The second-round pick out of Georgia has great instincts for running the ball that are on display every week for the Browns.

PHI - QB Nick Foles officially starting

Source: Delaware News Journal - Martin Frank

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles will officially start Week 17, according to head coach Doug Pederson. Pederson added that QB Carson Wentz (back) will start when healthy.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. The Eagles have not yet shut down Wentz for the season but we'd be shocked to see him out there again this year. They have not yet been eliminated from the postseason. They'll clinch a wild-card spot if they win in Week 17 against Washington and the Vikings lose.

LAC - RB Austin Ekeler due back for season finale

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Los Angeles Chargers RB Austin Ekeler (neck) is expected to return from a two-week absence and play in Week 17 against the Denver Broncos.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for Ekeler and the Chargers offense. Ekeler will serve as a change-of-pace back behind Melvin Gordon.

HOU - RB Lamar Miller has shot to play Week 17

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans RB Lamar Miller (ankle) is 'trending upwards' and has 'a chance' to play in Week 17 versus the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Miller doesn't need to shake off the rust before the Texans make a postseason run. They might decide to give him another week of rest. That means Alfred Blue and D'Onta Foreman could get more action if Miller sits out the regular season finale.

NYG - QB Eli Manning set to start Week 17

    Source: SNY - Ralph Vacchiano

New York Giants QB Eli Manning will make the start against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 17, according to head coach Pat Shurmur.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Giants don't have any other choice really. Rookie Kyle Lauletta has been inactive the last couple of weeks and they're not going to be in a trick shot competition ...as that's the only way backup Alex Tanney would be viable as a starter (seriously, look up his trick shots on YouTube).

MIA - QB Ryan Tannehill to start season finale

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill will get the start in Week 17, according to head coach Adam Gase.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We expect some changes to be made with the Dolphins during the offseason. They have to decide if they want to move forward with Gase as their head coach and Tannehill as their quarterback. There had been speculation the Dolphins would give David Fales a start in the season finale with the team eliminated from the playoffs.

CAR - RB Christian McCaffrey could rest Week 17

    Source: Panthers.com - Bill Voth

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey is a candidate to sit out Week 17 versus the New Orleans Saints, as head coach Ron Rivera told reporters Monday, Dec. 24, that his team needs 'to be smart' and could use the time 'to evaluate' younger players.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's no need to get McCaffrey more of a beating in a meaningless Week 17 game for the Panthers. McCaffrey has set the record (106) for the most receptions by a running back in a single season. He is 155 receiving yards away from being only the third member (Roger Craig, Marshall Faulk) of the 1,000/1,000 club (1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving in the same season). We don't think the Panthers will be careless with their superstar back.

TEN - QB Marcus Mariota feeling better

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (neck) said he is feeling better than he previously did after his stinger.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for Mariota but it doesn't mean he's going to play in the regular season finale. We'll know more about his status later in the week. If the Titans win against Indianapolis in Week 17 they're in the playoffs, either as the AFC South champion (if the Texans lose) or as the sixth seed.

WAS - QB Colt McCoy ruled out

Source: The Washington Post - Kareem Copeland

Washington Redskins QB Colt McCoy (leg) won't play in Week 17, according to head coach Jay Gruden.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Josh Johnson will continue as Washington's starter. McCoy is under contract through the 2019 season and should be good to go for offseason work.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed likely done

Source: The Washington Post - Kareem Copeland

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (foot, ankle) is unlikely to play in Week 17, and head coach Jay Gruden said Reed wasn't close to being able to play in Week 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Reed has never played a 16-game season during his pro career. This year, Reed has made it through 13 games and it looks like that will be it. He has 54 catches for 558 receiving yards and 2 receiving touchdowns in 2018. Reed is under contract through the 2021 season.

NYJ - WR Quincy Enunwa likely out again

Source: The Associated Press - Dennis Waszak Jr.

New York Jets WR Quincy Enunwa (ankle) has a 'slim chance' of playing in Week 17, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Enunwa missed all of the 2017 season and has made it through only 11 games so far this season. He's got 38 catches for 449 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown. We don't think he plays in Week 17.

HOU - WR Demaryius Thomas done for 2018

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Updating a previous report, Houston Texans WR Demaryius Thomas (Achilles') suffered a torn Achilles' in Week 16 versus the Philadelphia Eagles and will miss the remainder of the season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Texans added Thomas before the trade deadline and he made some plays here and there. The veteran receiver is under contract through the 2019 season but he has a $14 million cap number in 2019 with zero in dead money. We doubt he plays for that number, so expect the Texans to release him or renegotiate the deal to lower his cap hit.

SF - WR Dante Pettis to miss Week 17

Source: NBC Sports Bay Area - Matt Maiocco

Updating previous reports, San Francisco 49ers WR Dante Pettis (knee) has been diagnosed with a medial collateral ligament injury and will not play in Week 17 . He will not require surgery, however.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The 49ers know that Pettis can be a part of their young WR corps of the future. Pettis showed off his trademark speed this year and made some downfield plays for the team. With QB Jimmy Garoppolo healthy next season, Pettis should become one of his primary targets when in need of a big play.

    Wednesday Update

PIT - RB James Conner questionable

    Source: DKPittsburghSports.com - Dale Lolley

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner (ankle) is questionable to play in Week 17, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Conner is close to returning but his playing status is not clear. His practice participation this week will determine his availability.

DEN - RB Phillip Lindsay 'faces lengthy recovery'

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos RB Phillip Lindsay (wrist) is facing a 'lengthy recovery,' according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. He is dealing with 'a possible scaphoid fracture along with ligament damage.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bad news for the Broncos rookie sensation here. Lindsay is the first undrafted offensive rookie to be voted to the Pro Bowl and this wrist injury is likely to keep him from participating. Lindsay rushed for over 1,000 yards this year, only the third undrafted rookie to do that in NFL history. It's a lengthy recovery but one that should be healed up by the time training camp rolls around. There's a chance Lindsay would be available for spring OTA work as well.

NYJ - RB Elijah McGuire riding hot streak

    Source: USA TODAY Fantasy Sports

New York Jets RB Elijah McGuire has scored four touchdowns and averaged 79.6 total yards over the last three weeks while catching three passes in each contest.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McGuire is a talented all-purpose back who can do damage as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. Fantasy GMs still playing in Week 17 can consider him as a RB2 with upside in PPR formats.

NO - Sean Payton mum on resting stars

Source: The Times-Picayune - Josh Katzenstein

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton wouldn't commit to whether he will sit stars and other starters in Week 17. Payton said he doesn't have an overall philosophy regarding sitting players, saying every team is different from year to year. After being asked twice Monday, Dec. 24, about sitting players, Payton impatiently replied, 'We're going to approach this game just like we would a regular-season game, and if there's any changes to the lineups, I'll keep you posted. I'm done answering that question.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Reports have been circulating that the Saints will in fact rest their starters, including starting Teddy Bridgewater instead of Drew Brees. We'll know more about their plan for Week 17 in the near future.

PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger intends to play in 2019

Source: Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - Chris Adamski

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger told KDKA-FM radio he has every intention of playing in 2019 but doesn't want to think about it until this season has ended, according to Chris Adamski, of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Steelers aren't out of the playoff picture...yet. Roethlisberger has talked about retirement in recent years...then the Steelers selected Mason Rudolph in the 2018 NFL draft. Now, Roethlisberger has indicated he wants to play five more years. We feel confident Roethlisberger will return in 2019.

PHI - QB Carson Wentz staying on roster

Source: Philadelphia Inquirer - Jeff McLane

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (back) will remain on the 53-man roster even though he will not start in the Week 17 game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Eagles are not out of the postseason. They want to keep Wentz on the active roster just in case he can come back at some point during the playoffs (if they make it that far). They'll clinch a wild-card spot if they win in Week 17 against Washington and the Vikings lose.

    Thursday Update

PIT - RB James Conner practices in full

    Source: Steelers.com

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner (ankle) was able to practice in full Wednesday, Dec. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It looks like Conner is back this week. The Steelers need to win (and have the Ravens lose) in order to make the postseason. With Conner running the rock, Jaylen Samuels should be considered more of a deep flex option with his pass-catching role. Conner is a RB2 against the Bengals in Week 17.

NO - QB Teddy Bridgewater to get action in Week 17

Source: The Times-Picayune - Josh Katzenstein

New Orleans Saints QB Teddy Bridgewater will 'no doubt get some playing time' in the club's Week 17 game Sunday, Dec. 30, according to QB Drew Brees. He doesn't know how much time he'll get in under center, however.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Saints will be resting their starters for some time in Week 17. That means Bridgewater could see a half of action or more. We might get clues as to how much rest the starters will get sometime later in the week.

KC - RB Spencer Ware able to practice in full

    Source: KCChiefs.com

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (hamstring) was back as a full participant in practice Wednesday, Dec. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It looks like Ware should be able to play against the Raiders on Sunday. Against that weak defense, Ware has RB1 upside for Fantasy GMs playing in the championship in Week 17.

CIN - WR Tyler Boyd misses practice

    Source: Bengals.com

Cincinnati Bengals WR Tyler Boyd (knee) did not practice Wednesday, Dec. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Boyd is not expected to play in the season finale against the Steelers. A second-round pick in 2016, Boyd is under contract through the 2019 season. John Ross and Cody Core will be the lead receivers in his absence.

LAR - RB Todd Gurley remains idle

    Source: RamsWire - Cameron DaSilva

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) was held out of practice Wednesday, Dec. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's no telling whether or not Gurley is going to play in the season finale against the 49ers. We could see C.J. Anderson as their starting running back once again if the team decides to give Gurley a bit more rest. Anderson is an RB2 with upside for Fantasy GMs in Week 17.

ATL - No RB Tevin Coleman on Wednesday

    Source: AtlantaFalcons.com

Atlanta Falcons RB Tevin Coleman (groin) did not practice Wednesday, Dec. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Coleman may be limited the rest of the week. We saw the emergence of Brian Hill last week with Coleman banged up. Hill may be the lead back for the Falcons in Week 17 if Coleman can't go.

GB - TE Jimmy Graham sits out Wednesday

    Source: Packers.com

Green Bay Packers TE Jimmy Graham (knee, thumb) did not practice Wednesday, Dec. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Graham has name value at the TE position but he doesn't have consistent fantasy value. If he plays on Sunday against the Lions, you likely have better options at the position.

GB - WR Randall Cobb does not practice

    Source: Packers.com

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb (concussion) did not practice Wednesday, Dec. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cobb has struggled with various injuries this year, only appearing in eight games so far. Fantasy GMs have better options even if Cobb does play against the Lions on Sunday.

CLE - TE David Njoku has limited session

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns TE David Njoku (knee) practiced on a limited basis Wednesday, Dec. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Browns travel to play the Ravens on Sunday. Njoku should be projected as a low-end TE1 for Fantasy GMs in Week 17.

JAX - RB Leonard Fournette limited in his work

    Source: Jaguars.com

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette (ankle, foot) was listed as a limited participant Wednesday, Dec. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fournette's fantasy value in the finale against Houston is dependent on his touches. With Blake Bortles starting at quarterback again, Jacksonville should force-feed Fournette the rock. We're not going crazy about starting him this week and consider Fournette a RB2 or flex option in Week 17.

DET - QB Matthew Stafford full go

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (back) put in a full practice Wednesday, Dec. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stafford seems to be wearing down as the season rolls on. He's going to play in Week 17 against the Packers but he's only a low-end QB2 for Fantasy GMs at best.

DET - WR Kenny Golladay sits out of practice

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions WR Kenny Golladay (chest) was held out of practice Wednesday, Dec. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Golladay was limited by this chest injury during last week's practices. He played against the Vikings in Week 16 and finished with six receptions for 58 yards on 15 targets. Golladay should be able to play against the Packers on Sunday and has WR1 potential with his target load.

TEN - QB Marcus Mariota also has foot issue

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (neck, foot) is dealing with a foot ailment in addition to his neck stinger.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Just what he needed; another injury. Mariota has struggled to stay healthy for most of this year and now he's trying to deal with two injuries with the playoffs on the line in a game against the Colts in Week 17. They say Mariota does not have to practice this week in order to play on Sunday.

NYG - WR Sterling Shepard sidelined

    Source: Giants.com

New York Giants WR Sterling Shepard (hip) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Make sure Shepard gets in a full practice later in the week before you plug him into your lineup. He's got WR2 potential as the Giants no.1 wide receiver (provided Odell Beckham Jr. doesn't play against the Cowboys).

PHI - QB Carson Wentz not practicing

    Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (back) was held out of practice Wednesday, Dec. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

They are not shutting Wentz down for the season as the Eagles playoff hopes are still alive. They'll clinch a wild-card spot if they win in Week 17 against Washington and the Vikings lose. Nick Foles will start for the Eagles in this week's game.

IND - WR T.Y. Hilton not at practice

Source: CBS 4 Indianapolis - Mike Chappell

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton (ankle) missed practice Wednesday, Dec. 26. Hilton said there's no chance he misses Week 17, however.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy GMs have seen this over the last few weeks with Hilton. He's going to miss practice or perhaps be limited all week then he's going to go out there and produce. The playoffs are on the line in this Sunday's game against the Titans. The last time Hilton played the Titans (in Week 11), he posted 9 catches for 155 yards and 2 receiving touchdowns. While he may not have that monster performance again, Hilton should be able to post WR1 numbers in Week 17.

GB - WR Davante Adams misses practice

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers WR Davante Adams (knee) was not able to practice Wednesday, Dec. 26, due to a right knee ailment.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on this situation if you're still playing in Week 17 and are planning on starting Adams. He does expect to be able to play in Week 17 and we'll know more about his status later in the week.

TB - WR DeSean Jackson absent from practice

Source: Tampa Bay Times - Eduardo Encina

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR DeSean Jackson (hand) is not practicing Wednesday, Dec. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We wouldn't be terribly excited to get Jackson into our lineups in Week 17 even if he does play. The Buccaneers are playing at home this week against the Falcons and Jackson is mostly a 'what the heck' flex for Fantasy GMs.

SF - WR Marquise Goodwin sidelined

Source: NBC Sports Bay Area - Matt Maiocco

San Francisco 49ers WR Marquise Goodwin (calf, Achilles') is not practicing Wednesday, Dec. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Goodwin has already been banged up in 2018, making it through just 11 games for the 49ers so far this season. With Dante Pettis injured, the 49ers may have Kendrick Bourne as their lead player at the position on Sunday.

IND - TE Eric Ebron doesn't practice

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Zak Keefer

Updating a previous report, Indianapolis Colts TE Eric Ebron (concussion) is not practicing Wednesday, Dec. 26, as he is still in the concussion protocol.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Earlier reports stated Ebron was actually limited in practice on Wednesday. Ebron is working to get cleared from the concussion protocol after getting banged up in Week 16. The Colts have a huge game against the Titans on Sunday with a playoff berth on the line. It would be great for the Colts to have him out there. We'll know more about his status later in the week.

NFL - Justin Herbert staying put

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Oregon QB Justin Herbert announced Wednesday, Dec. 26, that he will forego the 2019 NFL Draft and return for his senior season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There had been plenty of buzz this was the way Herbert was leaning and now it's official. Herbert is tall and raw as a passer, drawing comparisons to Ryan Tannehill by some in the scouting community. We'll see if an extra year of college play can clean up his game. The 2019 NFL draft doesn't have a great quarterback class but guys like Dwayne Haskins (Ohio State), Drew Lock (Missouri) and Will Grier (West Virginia) are now top options for teams in need at the position.

JAX - QB Blake Bortles to start finale

    Source: Jaguars.com - John Oehser

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles will start the season finale against the Houston Texans in Week 17.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jaguars travel to play against the Texans in Week 17. Bortles replaces Cody Kessler as the team's starter after Kessler replaced him a few weeks ago. It's not a great option for Fantasy GMs playing in Week 17, even in 2-QB streaming formats.

DEN - More on RB Phillip Lindsay

    Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis

Updating previous reports, Denver Broncos RB Phillip Lindsay (wrist) has torn ligaments around the scaphoid bone in his wrist, and it's a four-to-six-month injury. He could do non-contact drills in organized team activities.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lindsay is not going to play in the season finale against the Chargers obviously, and this injury should prevent him from playing in the Pro Bowl. He was perhaps the lone bright spot for the Broncos offense in 2018, and we love his upside for the future. The Broncos should turn to fellow rookie Royce Freeman to be their starter against the Chargers on Sunday.

NYG - WR Odell Beckham idle Wednesday

    Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (quadriceps) is not expected to practice Wednesday, Dec. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Beckham's status is unclear for Week 17 against the Cowboys...and we're unclear why they just don't shut him down for a meaningless game. No need to risk further injury with their superstar wideout.

CAR - Kyle Allen to start

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Carolina Panthers QB Kyle Allen is poised to start in Week 17 against the New Orleans Saints.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Allen was once the no.1 quarterback coming out of high school, originally playing for Texas A&M. He then transferred to the University of Houston but never really developed the ability he showed from his prep days. Allen surprisingly declared for the 2018 NFL draft as some felt he could transfer again and play right away since he had already graduated and was benched for the Cougars. He went undrafted and the Panthers promoted him from their practice squad about a week ago. Now, Allen gets to start against the Saints in Week 17.

HOU - QB Deshaun Watson nearing dubious sack mark

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Michael David Smith

Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson is four sacks away from becoming the first quarterback since Jon Kitna with the Detroit Lions in 2006 to take 60 in a season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watson is doing this coming off a torn ACL that cut his rookie season of 2017 short. The Texans need to work to protect him better as Watson has a slight build and won't be able to take this much punishment long term.

    Friday Update

PIT - RB James Conner fully practices

    Source: NFLCommunications.com

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner (ankle) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Conner is back in action this week against the Bengals. That makes him a starting option for Fantasy GMs. Jaylen Samuels now takes on a pass-catching role and is more of a deep flex option.

TB - WR DeSean Jackson does not practice

Source: The Athletic - Greg Auman

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR DeSean Jackson (Achilles') did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jackson is likely to go elsewhere in 2019. He may not push it to play with this Achilles' injury in Week 17.

ATL - WR Julio Jones remains sidelined

    Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (hip, ribs) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones has missed two days of practice so far. We think he plays on Sunday against the Buccaneers.

KC - RB Spencer Ware logs full practice again

    Source: Chiefs.com

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (hamstring) was a full participant in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ware should be back in action for the Chiefs this week. Damien Williams has done a good job as the starter while Ware has been out. The Chiefs should use a backfield duo with Ware and Williams going forward.

ATL - RB Tevin Coleman sits out again

    Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure

Atlanta Falcons RB Tevin Coleman (groin) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brian Hill is on track to get a start this week. He was impressive after Coleman went out against the Panthers last week.

DET - QB Matthew Stafford takes part in practice

    Source: DetroitLions.com

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (back) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stafford has been getting knocked around lately, but it looks like he'll give it a go against the Packers in Week 17, which helps Kenny Golladay's outlook.

LAC - RB Austin Ekeler practices in full

    Source: Chargers.com

Los Angeles Chargers RB Austin Ekeler (neck) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ekeler will push Justin Jackson back to the bench this week, but probably only be a desperation play with Melvin Gordon healthy again.

LAR - RB Todd Gurley not practicing

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) missed another practice Thursday, Dec. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

CJ Anderson could be an excellent play again in Week 17 if Gurley can't go. Even with the #2 seed hanging in the balance, the Rams would be smart to let Gurley rest.

TEN - WR Corey Davis added to injury report

    Source: ESPN.com - Turron Davenport

Tennessee Titans WR Corey Davis (hamstring) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Davis has been on and off of the injury report with a hamstring issue for his whole career. This puts a damper on any momentum to play him in Week 17.

TEN - QB Marcus Mariota officially limited

    Source: ESPN.com - Turron Davenport

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (neck, foot) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It looks like Mariota is going to give it a go on Sunday, but the potential for re-injury and a shortened game makes him too risky to play in Week 17.

JAX - RB Leonard Fournette misses practice

    Source: HoustonTexans.com

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette (ankle, foot) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fournette played a full game last week, but sat in the second half of Week 15 and might see the bench this week if today's practice is any indication. Carlos Hyde and TJ Yeldon have been healthy scratches in recent weeks, so there's no telling who would start if Fournette sits.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker will play in Week 17

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker will be active for the Week 17 game even though his 2019 salary of $9.37 million would be guaranteed if he suffered a significant injury during the game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Dolphins should let him go this offseason. Hopefully he'll find a team more willing to use his talents in 2019.

CAR - RB Christian McCaffrey full go

    Source: Panthers.com

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey (rest) participated fully in practice Thursday, Dec. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCaffrey should play this week, but there has been some buzz about his resting after playing a ridiculous number of snaps for a running back. We'll be monitoring this situation closely.

NYG - WR Sterling Shepard upgraded

    Source: Giants.com

New York Giants WR Sterling Shepard (hip) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Shepard is set to be the #1 receiver in a game against a team looking forward to the wild card round. He's a solid WR2 play for Week 17.

IND - TE Eric Ebron back on practice field

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Wells

Indianapolis Colts TE Eric Ebron (concussion) was on the practice field Thursday, Dec. 27, wearing a red non-contact jersey as he continues through the concussion protocol.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is a good sign for his availability, but check back on Sunday to be sure of his status. If he's out, Chester Rogers, Dontrelle Inman, and Zach Pascal could get a few more targets.

IND - WR T.Y. Hilton doesn't practice, should play

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Zak Keefer

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton is not practicing Thursday, Dec. 27, but is expected to play this week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hilton has been playing and producing at his normal level despite missing a lot of practices lately. He's a safe WR1 for Week 17.

GB - WR Davante Adams still sidelined

    Source: Packers.com - Wes Hodkiewicz

Green Bay Packers WR Davante Adams is not practicing Thursday, Dec. 27. He was working off to the side with trainers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Adams is a must start if he plays, but if not, Jake Kumerow and Marquez Valdes-Scantling will have great Week 17 outlooks. Equanimeous St. Brown is in concussion protocol.

CAR - WR Devin Funchess certain to move on

Source: The Athletic - Joe Person

Carolina Panthers WR Devin Funchess, a pending free agent, won't be back with the team in 2019.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Funchess had some moments in 2017 and earlier this year, but he faded as the young speedy receivers came on for the Panthers. Funchess should still get a good paycheck in a thin free agent wide receiver market.

HOU - RB Lamar Miller feeling better

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans RB Lamar Miller (ankle) said Thursday, Dec. 27, he is feeling 'way better' about his sprained ankle.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Miller could play this week, but his recent injury and the tough matchup make him a risky Week 17 choice.

Interesting week 17 ahead I'll probably tread lightly betting wise because their isn't alot to like and plenty of games where neither team has anything to play for making it tough to cap.

Agreed I think this year is so wide open that the unexpected will likely happen. I put a wager in the SBR Sportsbook on the Chicago Bears winning the NFC and the LA Chargers winning the AFC because I think a dark horse may make the Super Bowl this year possibly even two and those are the two I think have the best chance to upset some teams on the road.

    Sunday Update

PIT - WR Antonio Brown A Game Time Decision

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

Ian Rapoport reports Saturday night, "Steelers WR Antonio Brown, listed as questionable, still has a chance to play Sunday, source said. He'll work out pregame, but he will need to improve to have a shot. His knee is still feeling discomfort. One to watch."

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Steelers have a 4:25 kickoff so we likely won't know anything official until well after the 1 pm games start. Stay tuned.

IND - WR T.Y. Hilton considered questionable

    Source: NFL.com

Updating previous reports, Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton (ankle) is listed as questionable for Week 17's game against the Tennessee Titans.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hilton didn't practice at all this week but we're expecting him out there on Sunday night against the Titans in a win-and-you're-in scenario. With the playoffs on the line, Hilton has WR1 potential (as per usual) for Fantasy GMs still playing in Week 17.

DAL - QB Dak Prescott could rest Sunday

Source: The Dallas Morning News - David Moore

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott said he would like to play against the New York Giants in Week 17 but acknowledged that he could be on a snap count.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Cowboys have clinched the no.4 seed in the NFC as they won the NFC East. Prescott is likely to be quite limited on Sunday. We should see plenty of Cooper Rush (and other Cowboys backups) in Week 17.

WAS - TE Jeremy Sprinkle, Matt Flanagan to be busy?

Source: The Washington Post - Kareem Copeland

Washington Redskins TEs Jeremy Sprinkle and Matt Flanagan could see another heavy workload at tight end in Week 17 against the Philadelphia Eagles with TE Jordan Reed on the Reserve/Injured list and TE Vernon Davis (concussion) doubtful to play.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A fifth-round pick out of Arkansas in the 2017 NFL draft, we've been monitoring Sprinkle in dynasty formats. He's an option for Fantasy GMs streaming tight end in Week 17.

NYJ - WR Quincy Enunwa ends season on IR

Source: The Associated Press - Dennis Waszak Jr.

New York Jets WR Quincy Enunwa (ankle) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list on Saturday, Dec. 29, and the team promoted WR J.J. Jones from the practice squad to the active roster. Enunwa finished with 38 receptions, 449 yards and a touchdown across 11 games in 2018.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Enunwa is a big part of the Jets passing game...now and in the future. He signed a four-year, $36 million contract extension on Friday.

SF - WR Dante Pettis finishes on Reserve/Injured

Source: The Athletic - Matt Barrows

The San Francisco 49ers placed WR Dante Pettis (knee) on the Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Dec. 29, officially ending his season with 27 grabs, 467 yards and five touchdowns across 12 games.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pettis fought knee problems for most of his rookie season. He showed off his trademark big-play ability, averaging a whopping 17.3 yards per catch. Pettis should have a larger role in the receiving corps in 2019.

SF - RB Matt Breida officially ends on IR

Source: The Athletic - Matt Barrows

The San Francisco 49ers placed RB Matt Breida (ankle) on the Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Dec. 29, ending his season with 814 rushing yards and three touchdowns across 14 games.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Breida has been banged up for most of the year due to this ankle injury. He's played through the injury and will have played in 14 games this season. Breida finishes the season with over 1,000 all-purpose yards (rushing and receiving) and five total touchdowns. He'll be working with Jerrick McKinnon in the 49ers backfield next season.

SEA - RB Chris Carson could see fewer snaps

Source: The Tacoma News Tribune - Gregg Bell

Seattle Seahawks RB Chris Carson and the rest of the starters will not be rested in Week 17 against the Arizona cardinals, but Carson might not see his usual carries.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Seattle is locked into their playoff position but aren't going to rest (most) starters. It sounds like Carson could be on a snap count. RBs Mike Davis and JD McKissic could also see more action than usual.

SEA - QB Russell Wilson, starters won't rest

Source: The Tacoma News Tribune - Gregg Bell

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson and the rest of the team's starters will not be rested in Week 17 against the Arizona Cardinals despite the fact the team is locked into either the fifth or sixth seed in the NFC. 'Not changing anything,' head coach Pete Carroll said Saturday, Dec. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy GMs are having to navigate the resting starters of Week 17, but that may not be the case with the Seahawks. We might see a player like Chris Carson get fewer reps, but otherwise it sounds like Seattle players should be started as per usual.

OAK - WR Jordy Nelson to return in 2019

Source: San Francisco Chronicle - Matt Kawahara

Updating a previous report, Oakland Raiders WR Jordy Nelson will return for the 2019 season, according to head coach Jon Gruden.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nelson may not be the player he used to be, but he has been effective at times for the Raiders in 2018. With a game left in the season, Nelson has 54 catches for 661 yards and three touchdowns. Nelson signed a two-year contract with the Raiders in the spring and has a $5.4 million cap hit in 2019 with $1.8 million in dead money.

SF - TE George Kittle a popular target

Source: NBC Sports Bay Area - Marcus White

Sam Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle is averaging six receptions on 9.3 targets for 92 yards per game since QB Nick Mullens took over as the starter in Week 9.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's been working for Kittle and Fantasy GMs thrilled to have him. When Jimmy Garoppolo returns to the lineup in 2019 it will be interesting to see if the targets take a slight dip for Kittle. They shouldn't as he's proven to be an effective weapon for the 49ers passing game. Kittle is locked in as a TE1 for Fantasy GMs in 2019.

TB - TE Cameron Brate dealing with injury

Source: Tampa Bay Times - Eduardo Encina

Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Cameron Brate (undisclosed) has been dealing with an injury since the start of the season that has contributed to his dip in performance, according to head coach Dirk Koetter. 'There will probably be more information on that after the season is over,' Koetter said. 'But I think Cam, when he gets healthy again, will return to form very quickly.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brate's stats have taken a dip from the strong numbers he posted in 2017. His yards per catch has dropped from 12.3 in 2017 to only 8.9 in 2018. Last season Brate finished as a top-10 fantasy tight end in standard-scoring leagues, while this season he's on track to finish as a low-end TE2. He is signed through the 2023 season but has a $7 million cap hit in 2018 with zero remaining in dead money.

So Tennessee is riding the Blaine Train in a pseudo playoff game. Titans still at home though and line now up to +4 across the market.
