NFL Player News - Week of 8/6/18

    Courtesy of Footballguys,com

PIT - WR Antonio Brown may return Tuesday

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown (quadriceps) is one of several injured players that could return to practice Tuesday, Aug. 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is a good sign that his quad issue is only minor, but we'll also want to see him get back into a few practices without aggravating the injury.

NE - New England releases first depth chart

    Source: Patriots.com

New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead appeared ahead of Sony Michel on the team's first depth chart release Sunday, Aug. 5.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Michel isn't going to play much, if at all this preseason, which could make it hard for him to have an early season impact. Look for Burkhead's ADP to jump into the fourth or fifth round very soon.

DAL - No clear pecking order at TE in Dallas yet

Source: The Athletic - Calvin Watkins

Dallas Cowboys TEs Dalton Schultz, Geoff Swaim and Blake Jarwin have reportedly all received equivalent reps with the first team thus far in training camp, according to Calvin Watkins of The Athletic.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

In other words, there's no fantasy value to be had here, especially with Rico Gathers bulked up and not figuring into the picture in a prominent way.

DAL - RB Ezekiel Elliott in better shape

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is in better shape physically and mentally this year, according to running backs coach Gary Brown. 'We are going to get a good Zeke this year,' Brown said. 'He is on a mission. You can see it already.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Elliott should have a chance to be the centerpiece of the offense and set career highs in the passing game, but the quality of the offense around him is a question mark with an underwhelming group of passing game targets. He'll go in the top five of most every draft.

CLE - Browns Trading WR Corey Coleman To Bills

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported, "Cleveland is trading former first-round pick WR Corey Coleman to the Buffalo Bills for a draft pick, per source."

"Coleman was the player the Browns selected after trading the No. 2 overall pick to Philadelphia so the Eagles could draft Carson Wentz."

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills needed WR help and Coleman had been rumored to be a name in trade talks. It may be too much reading between the lines but we'd like to think this means good things for Josh Gordon returning. We'll see.

CLE - Return date for WR Josh Gordon still uncertain

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon (personal) will not return to the team prior to Tuesday, Aug. 7 - the reporting deadline for a player to be eligible to record an accrued season for free agency purposes - but the team is reportedly working closely with the NFL to make sure that Gordon's health and well-being remain the top priorities. Gordon is in Gainesville, Fla., is reportedly doing well in his treatment program but needs more time, according to Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer. Gordon is also reportedly working out with a personal trainer to ease his transition back to football when he is ready.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gordon is potentially giving up a lot of money and an accelerated payday to tend to this situation. His life is more important than football and he needs to take the necessary steps to stay healthy and stable, even if that means hurting his financial status. We're still not sure when he'll be with the team, making him only worth a flier after you fill out your lineup and key backups.

BUF - Austin Proehl not standing out

    Source: WKBW.com - Joe Buscaglia

Buffalo Bills WR Austin Proehl struggled at times during practice Sunday, Aug. 5, and has not stood out since the start of training camp. He is not receiving a lot of snaps during practice when all of the receivers are healthy.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills failed to address their wide receiver paucity until the sixth and seventh (Proehl) and predictably, they are getting little help from their youngsters.

NO - New Orleans cuts ties with WR Brandon Coleman

    Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates

New Orleans Saints WR Brandon Coleman was released after failing his physical Sunday, Aug. 5, according to a league source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Saints may carry only four wide receivers into the regular season with the additions of Cameron Meredith and Tre'Quan Smith. Former Patriot Austin Carr is an interesting name in contention to be #5 now. Recent additions of Michael Floyd and Brandon Tate might have been in anticipation of Coleman's release.

PIT - WR JuJu Smith-Schuster skips practice

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) was seen icing his left knee after practice Saturday, Aug. 4, and did not participate in practice Sunday, Aug. 5.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Smith-Schuster had an injury issue in the offseason, so it doesn't appear that he's 100% entering the preseason. It's not absurd to up the risk in Smith-Schuster's profile and up the chances of James Washington being relevant this year as he is putting in a stellar camp to date.

MIA - RB Kenyan Drake, RB Frank Gore listed as starters

    Source: Sun-Sentinel - Omar Kelly

Miami Dolphins RBs Kenyan Drake and Frank Gore both appeared atop the team's first depth chart Sunday, Aug. 5.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is frustrating if you've been drafting Drake with the assumption that he'll clearly lead this backfield in touches. He has the most talent, but Gore is reliable and hard-nosed and will get some deference returning to South Florida. Adam Gase's handling of his backfield has caused consternation in fantasy leagues over the last two years, and this development could be a precursor to another rocky campaign for those searching for value in the Dolphins backfield.

SF - RB Joe Williams competing for No. 3 RB duties

Source: NBC Sports Bay Area - Matt Maiocco

San Francisco 49ers RB Joe Williams has run with more urgency during training camp this summer and appears more willing to take the hits required from the position, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. Williams is competing with special-teams ace Raheem Mostert for the third running back job behind Jerick McKinnon and Matt Breida.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams won't have fantasy value to begin the season, but he could establish himself if either of the top two backs miss time, and have a chance to provide an explosive element as an excellent fit in Kyle Shanahan's running game. Keep him on your waiver wire watch list.

OAK - Oakland wants more from WR Martavis Bryant

Source: Las Vegas Review-Journal - Michael Gehlken

Oakland Raiders WR Martavis Bryant has flashed his size and speed in training camp, but head coach Jon Gruden wants to see more scheme versatility and consistency from him this summer.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bryant is more of a role player than core piece of the Raiders offense, and he has to impress a new staff and riff with a new quarterback. He's only an end of the bench pick despite immense ability and potential.

WAS - WR Josh Doctson to do individual work

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson (shoulder, heel) is expected to do individual work Sunday, Aug. 5.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Getting back on the practice field is good for Doctson. Staying on it will be better.

BUF - WR Zay Jones on the mend

    Source: BuffaloBills.com - Mitchell Courtney

Buffalo Bills WR Zay Jones (knee) is 'progressing nicely' but doesn't have an exact timetable for his return, according to head coach Sean McDermott.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones was coming on before his injury last year, and then followed with an offseason that including a puzzling incident and his offense taking a big step back at quarterback and on the offensive line. He's not a preferred late round sleeper.

    Tuesday Update

NYG - Odell Beckham closer to extension?

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr.'s agent has been having contract extension talks with the Giants over the last few days, and both sides are encouraged that an agreement could be reached before the start of the regular season, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for Beckham and the timeline should be expected in these situations. Any deal likely would make Beckham the highest paid receiver in the NFL. Healthy now after an injury-shortened 2017 season, Beckham is a WR1 for fantasy GMs who is going off the board in the late first or early second round of drafts in any format.

PHI - TE Zach Ertz remains sidelined

Source: The Philadelphia Inquirer - Zach Berman

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz (undisclosed) is not participating in practice Monday, Aug. 6, and has missed three straight practices.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Three straight practices means this is something more than a precaution. Keep an eye on this situation as training camp and the preseason continue. The Eagles added a great young tight end in the second round of the 2018 NFL draft when they selected Dallas Goedert. He would be in line for quite a fantasy-relevant role if Ertz had to miss time in the regular season. Keep his name on your waiver wire speed dial just in case.

GB - WR Randall Cobb practicing Monday

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Tom Silverstein

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb (ankle) is participating in practice Monday, Aug. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cobb is working through this ankle problem so there might be some days where he gets limited work in camp. The veteran slot receiver presents a value for Fantasy GMs (if healthy) at WR34 (7.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

KC - WR Sammy Watkins leaves early

    Source: Chiefs.com - B.J. Kissel

Kansas City Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins (hip) left practice early Monday, Aug. 6, because of a hip injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watkins is a fine talent and he's been showing great chemistry with young QB Patrick Mahomes. However, injuries have cost him multiple games during his pro career. Watkins hasn't played a full 16-game regular season since his rookie year of 2014. The injury is considered minor but certainly one worth monitoring as the Chiefs are taking precautions here.

NYG - Saquon Barkley plans to play Thursday

    Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley said he plans to play in the first preseason game Thursday, Aug. 9.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Not many starters will play a whole lot in the first week of the preseason. Barkley was a top pick in the draft for a reason, and he has the skill set to be a top-5 fantasy RB as a rookie. Fantasy GMs currently see him as a RB1 and are taking him off the board at RB6 (1.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

CLE - WR Josh Gordon expected to move to NFI list

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon is expected to be moved from the Reserve/Did Not Report list to the Active/Non-Football Injury list in order to prevent Gordon from losing an accrued season toward free agency, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's a good move from the Browns, and reports are circulating that Gordon is getting close to returning to the team. There is currently no timetable for him to report.

TB - WR Chris Godwin likely to start

Source: Tampa Bay Times - Rick Stroud

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin is expected to start opposite of WR Mike Evans.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Godwin is becoming a fantasy darling because of his skill set and the opportunity to be a sleeper in 2018. He is viewed as a more complete receiver than WR DeSean Jackson, and he has the size to block for the run game. He's currently not getting drafted in 12-team PPR leagues. That will change if/when Godwin impresses as the starter opposite of Evans in the preseason.

CLE - WR Dez Bryant in holding pattern with CLE

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Free-agent WR Dez Bryant (Cowboys) is still receiving interest from the Cleveland Browns, but nothing is imminent even after Cleveland traded WR Corey Coleman.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bryant remains a free agent but the Browns are desperate at the position. We'll see if they put together an offer that gets Bryant interested in joining them.

DAL - Michael Gallup to make big impact?

    Source: NFL.com

Dallas Cowboys WR Michael Gallup should become a key target once he becomes comfortable with the offense, according to vice president Stephen Jones.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gallup is an interesting rookie out of Colorado State. He has dynamic athleticism and can make crazy catches seem routine. The Cowboys are desperate at the WR position since they've moved on from Dez Bryant and are looking for new targets in the passing game (Jason Witten retired too). Gallup could have fantasy value as a rookie based on his skill set and potential opportunity as the top target in Dallas. He's currently WR60 (13.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

MIA - RB Jeremy Langford joining Dolphins

    Source: ESPN.com - Josina Anderson

Free-agent RB Jeremy Langford (Jets) is signing an undisclosed deal with the Miami Dolphins Monday, Aug. 6, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A fourth-round pick out of Michigan State in 2015, Langford is most known for his play with the Chicago Bears. He bounced around the league in 2017, spending time with the Ravens and the Jets on the practice squad. The Dolphins added talent to their backfield in free agency (Frank Gore) and the draft (Kallen Ballage). It will be tough for Langford to crack the 53-man roster.

TB - Ronald Jones listed as No. 3 RB

    Source: ESPN.com - Jenna Laine

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones is listed as the third running back on the Buccaneers' first unofficial depth chart behind RBs Peyton Barber and Jacquizz Rodgers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This depth chart shows just how far Jones has to go. The talent is there, and his game was reminiscent of a young Jamaal Charles. Just like Charles (who didn't do much as a rookie), Jones may take some time to make an impact as a pro. We'll continue to watch this competition for the top spot as training camp continues.

TEN - No practice for WR Corey Davis

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt:

Tennessee Titans WR Corey Davis (undisclosed) was held out of practice Monday, Aug. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Davis, the no.5 overall pick of the 2017 NFL draft, missed plenty of time last year as a rookie due to a hamstring injury. This undisclosed injury may be nothing, but it does highlight how he was banged up as a rookie. If healthy, the natural talent is clearly there for him to be the top wide receiver for the Titans in 2018.

NE - WR Malcolm Mitchell let go

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

New England Patriots WR Malcolm Mitchell was released Monday, Aug. 6, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A fourth-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft coming out of Georgia, Mitchell played in only 14 games in two seasons. He has a history of knee problems dating back to his college days, but Mitchell has the speed to stretch the field. If healthy and able to pass a physical perhaps some other team will take a chance on him.

PHI - QB Nick Foles sits again

Source: The Philadelphia Inquirer - Zach Berman

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles (undisclosed) was sidelined for the second straight practice Monday, Aug. 6, because of upper body soreness.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Eagles are working Carson Wentz back from the knee injury that ended his 2017 season. Foles took over last year and we all know how that ended as the veteran quarterback was named Super Bowl MVP. Wentz is on a good track to return in Week 1 of the regular season but the team is taking it easy on Foles as you never know if they're going to need his experience once again as their starter.

DEN - Lofty comparison for Courtland Sutton

Source: The Denver Post - Mark Kiszla

Denver Broncos WR Courtland Sutton reminds head coach Vance Joseph of Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins. 'I was in camp in Houston with Hopkins as a rookie,' Joseph said. 'Very comparable.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Those comparisons aren't that outlandish as Sutton does have size and crazy body control to make contested catches. Sutton has been the star of Broncos training camp after 10 days, but the rookie is third on the depth chart behind Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders. Those two are having strong camps as well and look re-energized by the presence of QB Case Keenum.

DAL - WR Terrance Williams fighting foot pain

Source: The Dallas Morning News - Kate Hairopoulos

Dallas Cowboys WR Terrance Williams (foot) said Sunday, Aug. 5, that he has been practicing with foot pain throughout the offseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams has flashed just a little bit as a pro but he seems to get banged up quite a bit. Here we go again with another injury. The Cowboys added Allen Hurns and rookie Michael Gallup this offseason so Williams is fourth on the depth chart (as Cole Beasley should work as the no3./slot) in 2018.

    Wednesday Update

MIA - Mike Gesicki may be used at WR

Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki has the skill set to play outside as a wide receiver if the Dolphins choose to implement him there, according to The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

More love for Gesicki. It makes sense as Gesicki plays like a super-sized wide receiver anyway. His size and athleticism make him a mismatch anywhere on the field.

PHI - QB Carson Wentz unlikely for preseason

Source: NBC Sports Philadelphia - Reuben Frank

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (knee) is expected to be held out for the duration of the preseason as he continues to recover from a torn anterior cruciate ligament and subsequent surgery.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The fact that Wentz could actually be ready for Week 1 of the regular season is remarkable. The Eagles have been working to get him back for that game for some time and it seems like he's on track. Nobody should have been expecting him to play at all in the preseason. Wentz believes he'll be fine if he is unable to play in those exhibition games.

PIT - WR Antonio Brown expected to return soon

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown (quad) is expected to return to practice after the team's first preseason game Thursday, Aug. 9.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brown's quad injury has been handled in a hush-hush fashion, which sometimes sets off our injury dread sensor, but as long as this happens, we can keep Brown atop our wide receiver list in the overall top five.

CLE - WR Dez Bryant not interested in CLE?

    Source: ESPN.com - Josina Anderson

Updating previous reports, free-agent WR Dez Bryant (Cowboys) is believed to have little interest in joining the Cleveland Browns, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With each day that passes, it becomes less and less likely that Dez Bryant has a fantasy relevant role to being 2018. Missing camp and ramp up time with his new quarterback in his new offense will make Bryant a role player at best when he does join a new team.

PHI - TE Zach Ertz back

Source: The Philadelphia Inquirer - Jeff McLane

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz (undisclosed) returned to practice Tuesday, Aug. 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ertz had missed three practices, but it appears that it was nothing to be concerned about.

BUF - Josh Allen not working with starters

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Rodak

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen has worked exclusively with the third-team offense for the last four practices.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's not a surprise as Allen has some things to work on before he's ready to take over as the starter. Allen, a first-round pick out of Wyoming this year, had accuracy problems that he needs to improve if he wants to play up to his potential as a pro. He has a rocket arm, is tough and has fine athleticism but Allen needs to sharpen his skills when passing under pressure. He should take over as the starter at some point this year.

BUF - Buffalo not naming QB for preseason game

    Source: WKBW.com - Joe Buscaglia

Buffalo Bills QBs AJ McCarron and Nathan Peterman may both receive playing time with the first-team offense during the first preseason game, but head coach Sean McDermott said he is not ready to name the starting quarterback for the game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills have rookie first-round pick Josh Allen as their quarterback of the future. He'll take over eventually, perhaps early this season but for now we'll continue to see McCarron and Peterman compete for that spot. The Bills passing game should be rough this year for Fantasy GMs, so we're looking forward to Allen playing but only in dynasty formats.

BUF - WR Corey Coleman reports to Buffalo

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Buffalo Bills WR Corey Coleman reported to the team Tuesday, Aug. 7, and passed his physical.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Injuries have disrupted Coleman's career to this point. A first-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft, Coleman was known as an explosive player who could thrive near the red zone or on deep passes. He's played in 19-of-32 possible games in two seasons with the Browns. They gave up on him and dealt him to the Bills for a seventh-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft. Coleman is going to try and resurrect his career in one of the league's worst passing games. Fantasy GMs shouldn't be expecting much from any of the Bills receivers.

OAK - RB Doug Martin listed as No. 2 RB

    Source: ESPN.com - Paul Gutierrez

Oakland Raiders RB Doug Martin is listed as the team's No. 2 running back on the first depth chart released for the season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Martin should be prominent than Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington (whichever one makes the team), but the bigger question is how much he cuts into Marshawn Lynch's workload. Martin won't have much standalone value unless Lynch goes down unless the Raiders make this a 50/50 committee.

MIA - WR Albert Wilson to be used at RB?

Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Miami Dolphins WR Albert Wilson said he could be used in many different ways this season, including being lined up in the backfield.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wilson is currently third or fourth in the pecking order at the wide receiver position. The veteran is great after the catch and it just makes sense to get him the ball in multiple ways. Wilson is not much of a fantasy asset at this point but if someone like Danny Amendola gets banged up on the depth chart in front of him, he might get some deep flex appeal. Keep him on your waiver wire speed dial in deep leagues.

DEN - Two tight ends not on the field

    Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis

Denver Broncos TEs Jeff Heuerman (knee) and Troy Fumagalli (groin) did not participate in practice Tuesday, Aug. 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Heuerman has 18 catches over three seasons as a pro, but he was atop the Broncos depth chart that was released on Tuesday. We don't expect him to stay no.1 at the position for long as second-year TE Jake Butt has looked fantastic in training camp.

BAL - RB Kenneth Dixon, TE Maxx Williams leave early

Source: The Athletic - Jeff Zrebiec

Baltimore Ravens RB Kenneth Dixon (undisclosed) and TE Maxx Williams (ankle) left practice early Tuesday, Aug. 7, and walked off the field with athletic trainers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Both of these players have quite the injury history, so this situation is worth monitoring...but only for Fantasy GMs in dynasty leagues.

CHI - WR Taylor Gabriel unlikely for preseason opener

Source: Chicago Tribune - Rich Campbell

Chicago Bears WR Taylor Gabriel (foot) has a minor foot injury and is not expected to play Thursday, Aug. 9, in the opinion of the Chicago Tribune's Rich Campbell.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gabriel hurt his foot over the weekend and the team is going to take it easy on him as he tries to return. If he produces like he did in 2016 (35 catches, 579 receiving yards, six touchdowns) then Gabriel has some deep flex value in PPR leagues.

CHI - RB Jordan Howard may not play Thursday

Source: Chicago Tribune - Rich Campbell

Chicago Bears RB Jordan Howard (knee) banged his knee in practice recently but is fine, according to head coach Matt Nagy. Still, it would be surprise to see him play Thursday, Aug. 9, in the opinion of the Chicago Tribune's Rich Campbell.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's the team's second preseason game since they played in the Hall of Fame Game last week. Howard didn't play in that game either. We'll see if he can get some work in later this preseason, especially when the Bears travel to Denver for joint practices with the Broncos.

CLE - Antonio Callaway cited for marijuana

    Source: The Associated Press

Cleveland Browns WR Antonio Callaway was cited for marijuana possession and driving with a suspended license in Ohio Sunday, Aug. 5.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Callaway was in line to start with the Browns this year and he was turning heads at training camp so far. This news could be quite damaging for the rookie as he was already in Stage 1 of the NFL's substance Abuse Program. Stay tuned.

NE - WR Kenny Britt limited

    Source: NESN.com - Doug Kyed

New England Patriots WR Kenny Britt (hamstring) was limited during practice Tuesday, Aug. 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Britt has been limited by this hamstring all of camp. With the signing of Eric Decker, it just adds more veteran competition to the mix at the WR position. At this point, Britt is going to be hard pressed to make the Patriots 53-man roster.

WAS - WR Jamison Crowder won't play Thursday

    Source: NBCSportsWashington.com - Rich Tandler

Washington Redskins WR Jamison Crowder (undisclosed) will be held out of Week 1 of the preseason as he recovers from a minor injury, according to head coach Jay Gruden.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Crowder wasn't healthy until the second half of the season last year, when he delivered on the optimism around him heading into his third year. We want to see him back at full speed for the third preseason game to not fear a similar path this year.

TEN - WR Corey Davis still out

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans WR Corey Davis (undisclosed) participated in the stretching portion of practice Tuesday, Aug. 7, but did not participate in any drills.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We can't exhale just yet. Davis had hamstring issues in camp and again during the season. If this is a hamstring injury and it keeps him out for a week or more, it will be difficult to feel as confident about Davis this year.

WAS - WR Josh Doctson hurt, still practicing

    Source: NBCSportsWashington.com - Rich Tandler

Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson (heel, shoulder) participated in team drills Tuesday, Aug. 7, despite dealing with heel and shoulder ailments.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The shoulder issue was the original reported injury, but the heel injury bears watching too. We're beginning to wonder if Doctson will ever truly be 100%.

IND - WR Ryan Grant making push to start

    Source: Colts.com - Andrew Walker

Indianapolis Colts WRs Ryan Grant and T.Y. Hilton 'have really separated themselves' with regards to the top two receiver spots on the depth chart, according to head coach Frank Reich.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Grant appears to still have created a gap between him and rookie standout Deon Cain, with holdover Chester Rogers stuck at no higher than third on the depth chart.

NE - WR Phillip Dorsett having 'notable' camp so far

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots WR Phillip Dorsett has been one of the 'notable performers' through the first 10 practices, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.com. At times, he's also been breaking off to a second field with QB Tom Brady and 'a few others.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dorsett has lined up inside at times, and he can also fill the void left by Brandin Cooks in the deep passing game. He, Cordarrelle Patterson, Kenny Britt, and Eric Decker are competing for a fantasy relevant WR2 role in the Patriots offense while Julian Edelman is suspended. All are potential last round picks or Week 2 waiver wire wonders.

    Thursday Update

OAK - WR Martavis Bryant not grasping playbook

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Michael David Smith

Oakland Raiders WR Martavis Bryant is struggling to learn the playbook so far in training camp, according to offensive coordinator Greg Olson. The Raiders are trying to simplify Bryant's learning process so they can get him on the field more.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bryant is a superfreak athlete who can take the top off the defense. Things shouldn't really be that complicated for him as he usually wins with physical traits (size, speed, athleticism) and not savvy route running. That being said, Bryant needs to pick up the playbook better if he wants to contribute at a high level.

CAR - WR Jarius Wright catching everything

    Source: Panthers.com - Bryan Strickland

Carolina Panthers WR Jarius Wright is the unofficial receptions leader among the wide receivers thus far in training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Panthers passing game is crowded with the additions of DJ Moore, Torrey Smith, and Wright, and the return of Greg Olsen. Wright won't generate value of his own, but he'll help Cam Newton move the chains.

GB - TE Jimmy Graham bothered by knee

Source: USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin - Aaron Nagler

Updating a previous report, Green Bay Packers TE Jimmy Graham (knee) did not practice Tuesday, Aug. 7, due to a knee injury. Although it's considered minor, Graham is unlikely to play in the preseason opener Thursday, Aug. 9.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With Graham's history of a catastrophic knee injury, even something minor bears watching. As long as he plays later in the preseason, we shouldn't be worried about this.

NYJ - All three Jets QBs to play Friday

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets QBs Josh McCown, Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Darnold will all receive playing time in the preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons Friday, Aug. 9, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCown doesn't need a ton of reps in the first preseason game. Bridgewater could use more time as he is trying to prove himself after that devastating knee injury that knocked him out of the Vikings starting lineup years ago. Darnold is the rookie and the quarterback of the future for the Jets, so he may get the most time.

IND - Nyheim Hines listed as top returner

Source: 1070 The Fan - Kevin Bowen

Indianapolis Colts RB Nyheim Hines is listed as the No. 1 kick and punt returner on the team's first depth chart.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hines is explosive and he is a bit of a sleeper for Fantasy GMs in PPR leagues. If he plays up to his potential, the opportunity is there for him to have some flex appeal in that format. He could be the Colts version of Chris Thompson.

NE - Danny Etling may be on bubble

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots QB Danny Etling has impressed with his arm strength, leadership and commitment during training camp but is on the roster bubble because he has been inconsistent at times during practices.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Etling, the rookie from LSU, could be seen as a developmental quarterback. A seventh-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft, Etling has good size and gets rid of the ball quickly. He needs to play with better composure under pressure if he's ever going to make anything of himself at the pro level.

NYJ - QB Teddy Bridgewater could be trade option

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets QB Teddy Bridgewater is a player the team would consider trading under the right circumstance, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bridgewater was signed to a one-year deal with the Jets this offseason. They selected QB Sam Darnold near the top of the 2018 NFL draft and he's clearly their quarterback of the future. Josh McCown is there for veteran experience so Bridgewater is expendable. We'll see if a team in need of a veteran backup (Denver?) comes calling later in the preseason.

CLE - Antonio Callaway travels with team

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns WR Antonio Callaway traveled with the team for their preseason game against the New York Giants Thursday, Aug. 9, but it is not known if he will play. The team believes that Callaway has stayed clean and did not know what was in the car.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on this situation. Callaway has been a star of camp for the Browns, but the rookie from Florida is already in Stage 1 of the NFL's substance abuse program. The talent is there for him to be a weapon as an underneath receiver. We'll see if the league takes action after Callaway was cited for marijuana possession and driving with a suspended license in Ohio Sunday, Aug. 5.

NE - RB Rex Burkhead might be nicked up

    Source: WEEI.com - Ryan Hannable

New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead (undisclosed) headed to the team's lower field at practice Wednesday, Aug. 8, a field usually reserved for those rehabbing injuries.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Burkhead is in line to be the lead back for the Patriots in 2018. He'll work in a RBBC just like most all Patriots backs do, but his role should have the most fantasy value. Burkhead currently has an ADP of RB29 (6.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

LAC - TE Virgil Green finding comfort zone

    Source: Chargers.com - Ricky Henne

Los Angeles Chargers TE Virgil Green is starting to find his groove with new QB Philip Rivers in the team's passing game. '(Our connection) is growing,' Rivers said Wednesday, Aug. 8. 'We're working through how I like things, what I'm expecting on certain routes. He's getting a feel for this offense.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Green is the lead tight end for the Chargers this year with the injury to Hunter Henry. He caught only 14 passes for the Broncos last year and his career high came in 2016 with just 22 receptions. Green has mostly been a blocker during his pro career and Fantasy GMs are not expecting much from him this year with his new team.

MIA - QB Ryan Tannehill likely for Thursday

    Source: MiamiDolphins.com - Alain Poupart

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) might play in the preseason opener Thursday, Aug. 9, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. 'We'll sit down and kind of talk through stuff,' head coach Adam Gase said. 'I know what he's going to say already. He wants to get out there and get going because in his mind, these are important.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's been quite some time since we've seen Tannehill under center for the Dolphins as he missed all of the 2017 season due to a knee injury. Reports out of Miami have been positive about his recovery, but it will good to see it with our own eyes in whatever limited preseason action he gets on Thursday.

NYJ - WR Quincy Enunwa's hand uncovered

Source: New York Post - Brian Costello

New York Jets WR Quincy Enunwa (thumb) is no longer wearing a cast or wrap on his previously injured right thumb.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Enunwa suffered a minor setback with this thumb injury earlier in camp. He missed all of last year due to a neck injury but the veteran receiver is back and aiming to win the slot receiver duties for the Jets in 2018. At his best in 2016, Enunwa performed at WR4/flex levels. We'll see if he can get back there this season.

BAL - Hayden Hurst has made strides

Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora

Baltimore Ravens TE Hayden Hurst has proven to be a playmaker this offseason and has improved his route-running, according to offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hurst flashed a bit for the Ravens during the Hall of Fame Game earlier this month. The rookie from South Carolina is set to be the team's lead tight end and should become a favorite target of QB Joe Flacco. Rookie tight ends may take some time to produce at a fantasy relevant level but some Fantasy GMs are taking Hurst at TE21 (14.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

    Friday Update

WAS - Derrius Guice to undergo MRI

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice (knee) is scheduled to undergo an MRI Friday, Aug. 10, on the knee injury he suffered in the first preseason game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep a close eye on this one. We'll hopefully have clarity Friday.

CLE - No timetable for WR Josh Gordon's return

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns general manager John Dorsey said there is still 'no updated timetable' for WR Josh Gordon's return to the team.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not really sure this should be filed under 'Troubling' -- with or without a capital 'T' but we are happy he is making sure he is taking care of himself. On the upside, this could just mean nothing new has happened. His ADP is hovering at wide receiver #23 right now (51st overall) and his upside, as we know, is significant as is the potential downside if he slips. We're pulling for him off the field, no matter what the result is on the field.

CLE - WR Dez Bryant plans to meet with CLE

    Source: Twitter

Free-agent WR Dez Bryant (Cowboys) said on his Twitter page that he plans to meet with the Cleveland Browns next week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

And so it begins. We're not sure at all how much Dez Bryant has to contribute but you can be sure we'll be watching here for you. Josh Gordon, of course, is the other variable very much in play here.

NYG - Saquon Barkley shines in first action

    Source: ESPN.com

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley rushed four times for 43 yards in the team's first preseason game Thursday, Aug. 9, against the Cleveland Browns.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This was classic pre season hype and expectations. We were fitting him for his Gold Jacket after the first touch. On his next touch, he lost yardage. It'll be fun to watch this unfold for Barkley but we're expecting good things.

DEN - Denver to use two RBs with starters

Source: The Athletic - Nicki Jhabvala

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker and RB Royce Freeman will split snaps with the first-team offense during the first preseason game Saturday, Aug. 11.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Freeman is the guy we're expecting to be the lead back, but the two will still probably split carries for at least the beginning of the season. He's tracking as the 27th RB off the board right now, and that's a safe spot. He can easily outproduce that, but barring injury, we don't see him producing less right now.

DEN - TE Jake Butt to work with starters

Source: The Athletic - Nicki Jhabvala

Denver Broncos TE Jake Butt (knee) is scheduled to play with the first-team offense during the first preseason game Saturday, Aug. 11, and likely will see some snaps with the second-team offense.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Butt has first round ability and skills, and could be a dangerous weapon if his knee is all the way back. His ADP isn't great -- he's the 27th tight end off the board right now -- and in this offense with the weapons it has, we aren't seeing much chance he outperforms that greatly. Some great work this preseason could move the needle a little though.

TB - QB Ryan Fitzpatrick receives starting nod

Source: Tampa Bay Times - Rick Stroud

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will be the starting quarterback for the first preseason game Thursday, Aug. 9.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We expect to see Jameis Winston quite a bit here as well. Fitzpatrick has a knack for being in the right place at the right time for starting jobs. He won't keep this one when Winston comes back from suspension, though and we would avoid him in fantasy anyway. Fitzpatrick has more often than not been average or below as both an NFL and fantasy quarterback.

BUF - WR Jeremy Kerley may be No. 2 WR

    Source: WKBW.com - Joe Buscaglia

Buffalo Bills WR Jeremy Kerley has a chance to win the No. 2 receiver job during training camp and would move to the slot receiver position then the team uses three-receiver sets, in the opinion of WKBW.com's Joe Buscaglia.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Considering they have Kelvin Benjamin, invested a second round pick in Zay Jones and just traded for Corey Coleman, that would be concerning. We expected him to be a slot guy, which doesn't preclude him being one of the top two receivers in Buffalo, but would make it clear that the Bills passing offense isn't one where we expect much fantasy value.

LAR - WR Brandin Cooks a versatile weapon

    Source: ESPN.com - Dan Graziano

Los Angeles Rams WR Brandin Cooks will be used in a variety of positions and move around offensive formations, according to head coach Sean McVay. McVay added that Cooks is a 'rare type player' who possesses a complete skillset.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Well, the Rams are definitely looking to get their money's worth from Cooks after he signed that ridiculously big contract not long ago. The more ways they can try to use him, the better the chance he breaks out from the pack around him. The Rams didn't throw a ton last year -- they were 24th in passing attempts in 2017 -- but we hope they open things up for Jared Goff this season. That would bode well for Cooks -- currently the 22nd receiver coming off the board in drafts -- and his production.

LAC - WR Mike Williams a red-zone threat

    Source: ESPN.com - Dan Graziano

Los Angeles Chargers WR Mike Williams said he's been given a sizable red-zone role this offseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

After losing most of his rookie year to injury, it's good to see the Chargers are giving Williams a chance to prove himself the weapon they drafted him to be. It doesn't hurt that the team lost a red zone option when Hunter Henry went down for the season. We think Williams could be better than his ADP of 53rd receiver off the board, but he has to stay healthy and show us something in preseason action before the needle moves.

LAC - More catches for RB Melvin Gordon?

    Source: ESPN.com - Dan Graziano

Los Angeles Chargers RB Melvin Gordon is expected to be used more as a pass-catcher this season. Head coach Anthony Lynn admitted one of his regrets last year was not using Gordon more in the passing game. Gordon said his goal is to achieve more explosive plays going into his fourth year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The injury to Hunter Henry and the departure of Antonio Gates has left Philip Rivers with a few less weapons than what was expected, so adding another receiving option makes sense. He averaged 3.4 receptions and 30.1 yards per game last season, so we know he has the chops to excel. That combination could make him a very nice lats first round/early second round option in redraft -- right about where his 12th overall/9th running back ADP puts him.

SF - RB Jerick McKinnon not featured?

    Source: ESPN.com - Dan Graziano

San Francisco 49ers RB Jerick McKinnon may not be used as a bell-cow running back, according to ESPN.com's Dan Graziano. Graziano posits that there will be weeks when RB Matt Breida plays on early downs.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McKinnon has been touted as a guy having an impressive camp, so we aren't totally sure what to make of this. Breida has also received a ton of buzz, it's true, but we aren't crowning him just yet. Preseason action will be huge in determining what is going on here. McKinnon has been praised for his receiving, which could give him the edge in snaps as it will keep him on the field. He's currently going off the board as the 13th running back, while Breida is the 55th in ADP. This is starting to smell of a committee, and that would make McKinnon's ADP something to be cautious with.

JAX - WR Dede Westbrook more comfortable in offense

    Source: FirstCoastNews.com - Mike Kaye

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Dede Westbrook's knowledge of the playbook this preseason has given him a comfort level, and he is making tough catches during training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With Allen Hurns and Allen Robinson gone, there's room for Westbrook to make a splash. He didn't do a ton in the seven games he played during his rookie season, but this could be a sign he might be in line for some targets. We're still not sold until we've seen some preseason action, and it seems like Fantasy GMs are also holding off on grabbing him as his ADP is currently at 67th receiver off the board.

DEN - WR Demaryius Thomas changed his diet

Source: NFL Network - James Palmer

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas (hip) changed his diet in the offseason after reading about the relationship between inflammation and diet. He found out what his body was sensitive to, what inflamed his body and his hip and what supplements that were lacking or needed. He dropped from 228 pounds to 212 pounds and put the weight back on with a new workout program.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas, along with Emmanuel Sanders, will continue to dominate the targets, though rookie Courtland Sutton has had a great camp to date. Thomas seems to be in sync with new Broncos quarterback Case Keenum already, and there is a feeling he could end up getting back over the 1,000 yard mark this season. He's currently going off the board as the 18th receiver, 45th player overall and we are cautiously optimistic about his upside.

    Saturday Update

WAS - RB Derrius Guice reportedly tore ACL

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

Updating previous reports, Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice (knee) reportedly tore his ACL and will miss the rest of the season, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport via a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Terrible news for Washington and the top prospect. Rob Kelley was ahead of Samaje Perine last year and he has reportedly slimmed down, so he is probably the favorite to start, but this should be a committee approach and Washington could always bring in a veteran like Demarco Murray or even wait until final cuts to add someone.

SF - Two 49ers out until Week 1

    Source: 49ers.com - Joe Fann

San Francisco 49ers RB Matt Breida (shoulder) and TE George Kittle (shoulder) both suffered separated shoulders during the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 9, and will both be sidelined until Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Both play rough positions that include a lot of contact that might re-injure the shoulders so this will be something to monitor when they return to the lineup. Second-year players Cole Hikutini and Joe Williams will get increased August opportunity to show their stuff with the pair sidelined.

NYJ - RB Crowell exits game with possible concusion

    Source: CBS Sports

Jets running back Isaiah Crowell left Friday's preseason game with a possible concussion, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We've projecting Crowell to be the Jets leading rusher so stay on top of this one. Bilal Powell would see work if Crowell were to miss time.

NYJ - PK Cairo Santos not playing

Source: New York Post - Brian Costello

New York Jets PK Cairo Santos (leg) is not playing in the preseason game Friday, Aug. 10, because he has been dealing with leg tightness.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Santos lost his spot as the Chiefs kicker after aggravating a groin injury in-season last year. We'll watch this closely, as Taylor Bertolet may end up having a chance to win a job if Santos can't get healthy soon.

IND - RB Robert Turbin dealing with injury

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Zak Keefer

Indianapolis Colts RB Robert Turbin (ankle) suffered an ankle injury in the first preseason game and is considered week-to-week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Turbin will have plenty of time to get to 100% as he serves a four-game suspension to begin the season. The team appears to be keeping him on the roster despite the suspension, so he may be on our waiver wire watch list later in the season.

OAK - WR Martavis Bryant stuck on second team for now

Source: NBC Sports Bay Area - Scott Bair

Oakland Raiders WR Martavis Bryant has been locked to the second unit, without many 11-on-11 reps early in camp, according to Scott Bair of NBC Sports Bay Area.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ryan Switzer may end up with more snaps and targets than Bryant at this rate. Bryant has tons of physical ability, but he might not have a big role in the Raiders offense after they spent a third round pick on him.

NE - RB Jeremy Hill strengthens roster bid

    Source: ESPN.com

New England Patriots RB Jeremy Hill carried 11 times for 51 yards and a touchdown on Thursday, Aug. 9, against the Washington Redskins. Hill added two receptions for 14 yards.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hill contributed on special teams, which should help his chances to make the team. He could have the Mike Gillislee 2017 role if he beats out Gillislee and Sony Michel isn't ready for Week 1 against Houston. Put him on your late round flier list.

TB - Ronald Jones bottled up

    Source: ESPN.com

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones rushed eight times for nine yards and a touchdown and failed to catch his only target in a 26-24 preseason win over the Miami Dolphins Thursday, Aug. 9.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones also had a key drop in the passing game. It doesn't look like he is going to displace Peyton Barber. Expect his ADP to drop and Barber's to rise in upcoming weeks.

    Sunday Update

WR Antonio Brown able to practice

    Source: DKPittsburghSports.com - Dale Lolley

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown (quadriceps) took part in a padded practice session Saturday, Aug. 11.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin expected Brown back after their preseason opener and here we go. Brown's injury scare shouldn't concern Fantasy GMs that much as he's still a top pick at the position and should be a first round pick in any format out there.

WAS - Washington may not sign running back

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice (knee) is out for the season, but head coach Jay Gruden said he is satisfied with the depth behind Guice.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rob Kelley and Samaje Perine should compete for more carries with Guice done for the year. Chris Thompson is the team's pass-catching back and he goes from being flex worthy to potentially having RB2 value for fantasy GMs in PPR leagues.

BAL - WR John Brown remains standout performer

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens WR John Brown made three impressive catches during practice Saturday, Aug. 11, and continues to be the best receiver during training camp, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Jamison Hensley. Brown and QB Joe Flacco have shown great chemistry throughout camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Flacco still has a big arm and loves to stretch the defense vertically. That's exactly the skill set Brown brings to the wide receiver position. Brown is currently going undrafted in 12-team PPR leagues but keep his name on your waiver wire speed dial.

PHI - QB Nick Foles returns to practice

    Source: ESPN.com - Tim McManus

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles (neck, back) resumed practicing Saturday, Aug. 11.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Foles doesn't need a ton of work in training camp or the preseason. The veteran has a known skill set, so the Eagles are just taking it easy on Foles as he returns to practice.

BUF - RB LeSean McCoy in better shape

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Rodak

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy looks 'quicker, faster and more powerful than last year,' according to head coach Sean McDermott.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCoy is the centerpiece of the Bills offense and certainly has RB1 ability for Fantasy GMs. However, McCoy is going in the third round of most fantasy drafts for a couple of reasons - both on and off the field. On the field, the Bills O-line is not what it once was and they have a quarterback situation that can be framed as a 'work in progress' at best. Off the field, McCoy has been the subject of domestic violence allegations. That's why his current ADP is RB16 (3.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Source: The Athletic - Calvin Watkins

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott (wrist) was seen wearing a brace on his left wrist Saturday, Aug. 11.

Nothing to see here really, but it is a situation we will be monitoring. Elliott was practicing with the brace and it's not considered serious.

LAR - TE Gerald Everett wearing sling

Source: The Orange County Register - Rich Hammond

Los Angeles Rams TE Gerald Everett (shoulder) was seen with his left arm in a sling Saturday, Aug. 11.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With Everett a bit banged up it opens the door for Tyler Higbee to get more snaps. We'll see how long this shoulder injury keep Everett out of action.

WAS - WR Josh Doctson works in practice

    Source: NBCSportsWashington.com - Rich Tandler

Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson (ankle) was able to participate in most of practice Saturday, Aug. 11, and he was reportedly moving well with tape on his right foot and ankle area.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Doctson didn't flash in his second season last year. Washington went out and nabbed Paul Richardson in free agency to help the position. This season, Doctson needs to show better route-running and hands if he ever wants to play up to the potential that made him a first-round pick out of TCU in 2016.

TEN - WR Corey Davis able to practice

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans WR Corey Davis (undisclosed) was able to practice Saturday, Aug. 11.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Davis suited up and participated in warm ups but did not appear in the preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday. If healthy, the second-year pro is in line for a breakout season for the Titans. Keep an eye on this injury situation and take advantage of his stagnant (or falling) average draft position. Davis is currently going off the board at WR27 (6.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.

BUF - WR Zay Jones making progress

    Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills WR Zay Jones (knee) participated in team drills during practice Friday, Aug. 10, but was still wearing a non-contact jersey.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills made a move to acquire Corey Coleman from the Browns and he should be in line for the no.2 job opposite of Kelvin Benjamin. When healthy, Jones should push for the no.3 spot. Last year was a disappointment and Jones rookie season had some off-field weirdness as well. We're not expecting much from him in re-draft formats and his dynasty stock doesn't hold much value either.

NYJ - WR Terrelle Pryor targeting third game

Source: ESPN.com - Dianna Marie Russini

New York Jets WR Terrelle Pryor (ankle) said he won't play until he feels 100 percent healthy, and he his targeting the third preseason game for his return.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pryor is trying to have a bounce-back season after his disappointing 2017 in Washington. He has been participating on a limited basis in training camp. We'll see if he can get into the mix when the Jets go 3-or-4 wide receiver sets in the third preseason game and the regular season.
