NFL Player News - Week of 7/23/18

MIN - OL Coach Tony Sparano Dies

    Source: ESPN - Courtney Cronin

ESPN reported Minnesota Vikings offensive line coach Tony Sparano has died unexpectedly at the age of 56, the team announced Sunday afternoon.

"I am at a loss for words with Tony's sudden passing. Tony loved the game of football and his players. More importantly, he was a strong man of faith who treasured his family. My heart is with the Sparanos today. As an organization we will support them in whatever ways we can," Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said in a statement.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Our condolences to Family and Fans and Friends of Coach Sparano. Peace and Grace.

CHI - RB Jordan Howard to play every down?

    Source: NFL.com - Jeremy Bergman

Chicago Bears RB Jordan Howard 'can play all three downs,' according to head coach Matt Nagy. 'We're going to do that,' Nagy said. 'We're going to use him and we're going to use other guys on first and second down when we need to.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Howard isn't going to get as many heavy workload games under Nagy and Tarik Cohen will have a larger role, but the offense will also be improved - maybe vastly improved - and Howard could have more scoring drives to finish and more production per touch. He is a heavily debated pick in the third round, but this note helps the idea that he won't be pigeonholed as an early down back.

SEA - RB Chris Carson the top back in Seattle?

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks RB Chris Carson is the No. 1 running back on the depth chart entering training camp, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We think this is mostly July talk. We expect Rashaad Penny to take over but for now, Carson is the guy on paper.

NYG - Saquon Barkley agrees to terms with NYG

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

New York Giants RBs Saquon Barkley agreed to terms on a four-year contract worth $31.2 million with the New York Giants on Sunday, July 22, according to a source. The deal will contain a fifth-year team option and includes a signing bonus worth a reported $20.76 million.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Barkley instantly becomes one of the highest-paid running backs in the league. He should get all of the work he can handle, especially as a receiver out of the backfield, and have a chance to justify his first-round ADP.

DEN - RB Devontae Booker to open season as starter?

    Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker has 'good command' of the offensive playbook and become a competent pass protector, according to Mike Klis of 9News, who added Booker is expected to start the season opener over Royce Freeman against the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 9.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Booker should be the favorite to start Week 1 with his experience in the offense, but Freeman has more to offer as an inside runner and is capable in all aspects of a running back's job. Freeman's higher ceiling justifies his earlier ADP, but maybe not the large gap. Booker should be a very cheap early season flex as long as his ADP doesn't trend up.

CHI - More freedom for QB Mitchell Trubisky

Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky is going to be allowed to 'cut it loose' more often this year, according to head coach Matt Nagy.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Trubisky had some great moments last year when he was allowed to do more, but the Bears offensive staff didn't allow him to get into a groove. Jared Goff had a breakout year with a more creative staff and retooled offense in 2017, and that could happen for Trubisky this year. Trubisky opens with the Packers defense and might be an option for quarterback streamers to start the season.

BAL - QB Joe Flacco showing off athleticism

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco is 'moving and grooving better than he has in several years,' according to offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Flacco had a serious knee injury recovery and then back issue to work through during the last two camps. This year, it appears he is at full speed, and first-round pick Lamar Jackson is already impressing to put pressure on him. Flacco could have an 2017 Alex Smith-like resurgence if he can harness these factors.

BAL - Lamar Jackson impressing coaches

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson has shown 'accelerated improvement' and is 'way ahead of the curve now,' according to offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If Jackson doesn't play this year, it will only be because the Ravens are winning and Joe Flacco is playing well. On a team with a less-established starter, Jackson would be on the fast track to playing and shaking up fantasy leagues a la Deshaun Watson. Keep him on your radar.

HOU - D'Onta Foreman could be ready for opener

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

The Houston Texans are hopeful that RB D'Onta Foreman (Achilles') will be fully recovered from a torn Achilles' tendon by the start of the regular season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There isn't a running back who came all the way back to top physical form after suffering an achilles injury. Foreman's size/speed combination made him a potential heir to early down work in the Houston backfield, but his future contributions are up in the air. Lamar Miller has a limited ceiling, but could still be a fine discount RB2 with the uncertainty around Foreman.

    BAL - Hayden Hurst confident

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Baltimore Ravens TE Hayden Hurst said he knows there is pressure on him to produce immediately, but he has 'a lot of confidence' in his football ability.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hurst was a first-round pick, but he isn't the physical marvel that 2017 first-round trio OJ Howard, David Njoku, and Evan Engram presented, and he's not an elite two-way tight end. There's a lot of targets at tight end up for grabs for the Ravens, but Hurst should go undrafted in fantasy leagues and only get interest with a hot start. Third-round pick Mark Andrews is also very capable as a receiver and should figure into the tight end picture immediately.

BAL - WR Breshad Perriman under pressure

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Edward Lee

Baltimore Ravens WR Breshad Perriman said he has some nervousness as he enters a 'make-or-break year,' but he is trying to avoid putting extra pressure on himself.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Perriman has a rare/length speed combination, but injuries and inconsistency have him squarely on the roster bubble. He would likely catch on elsewhere considering some of the weak wide receiver depth charts around the league, but the Ravens aren't exactly stacked at wideout and can use his speed, so if he can't make it there, it's probably time to close the book on Perriman in dynasty leagues.

CHI - WR Kevin White staying busy

Source: Chicago Tribune - Rich Campbell

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White was targeted 'way more frequently' during practice Sunday, July 22, than he was all of last summer, according to Rich Campbell of The Chicago Tribune.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

White actually has a chance to win the outside receiver job opposite Allen Robinson this year, and has a fresh start with a new coaching staff. He's not worth a late round pick, but could find his way onto early season waiver wire lists if he stays healthy and finally plays up to his considerable physical gifts.

NE - Sony Michel agrees to terms

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

The New England Patriots agreed to terms with RB Sony Michel on a four-year contract Sunday, July 22, with an option for a fifth year, according to a source. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The final unsigned rookies should start to get their deals done with training camps opening around the league. Michel has a chance to be the most productive back in one of the most productive backfields in the league, and deserves more buzz among rookie back in redraft leagues.

    Tuesday Update

CLE - WR Josh Gordon excused

    Source: Twitter

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon tweeted Monday, July 23, that he will not report to training camp as part of his overall health and treatment plan laid out by the team.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Adam Schefter from ESPN is reporting that Gordon did not have any slip ups or missed/failed drug tests. This absence is a proactive move to prevent Gordon from having any problems like he did in the past. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero was told Gordon is "absolutely not suspended."

CLE - WR Josh Gordon will stay with team

Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon is in no danger of being released even though he will not be present for the start of training camp because of his treatment plan, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is just an interesting story to monitor and there have been quite a few reports today about what is going on. Gordon performed well during offseason workouts and has the support of the team in his recovery.

CLE - WR Josh Gordon to NFI list

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating an earlier report, Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon (personal) will be placed on the Non-Football Injury list Monday, July 23, according to general manager John Dorsey.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

In an interesting career, this is yet another interesting story for Gordon. The move to stay away from camp is proactive so he doesn't suffer any setbacks as he has in the past. League spokesperson Brian McCarthy said the NFL will "address" the Josh Gordon situation "at the appropriate time."

BUF - RB LeSean McCoy to be at camp

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy will report training camp with the rest of the veteran players Wednesday, July 25, even though he is dealing with some off-field issues, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A recent incident with his ex-girlfriend has put his status in doubt just a bit. Even though no charges have been filed, the NFL could put McCoy on the Commissioner's Exempt List while this home invasion and assault (allegedly arranged by McCoy) is investigated further. Stay tuned.

NYG - Odell Beckham will report on time

Source: NFL Network - Kimberly Jones

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. will report for the start of training camp Wednesday, July 25, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Beckham is in the final year of his rookie contract and has been looking for a raise. Set to make around $8.4 million in 2018, Beckham has constantly stated that he would not miss training camp. Beckham wants to be the highest paid WR in the league but reports from about a month ago indicate the two sides are not close in negotiations.

ARI - RB David Johnson reports

    Source: Twitter

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson reported to training camp Monday, July 23.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson skipped mandatory minicamp earlier this year in an effort to force the Cardinals hand in contract negotiations. Set to make $1.8 million in 2018, Johnson wants a new deal and is in the final year of his contract. Back in June, Cardinals GM Steve Keim said he looked forward to 'rewarding' Johnson so perhaps the two sides are making positive strides towards that new deal. Johnson missed almost all of last year due to a wrist injury but is at full strength now and a RB1 for Fantasy GMs in any format.

NO - RB Alvin Kamara ready for more

    Source: NewOrleansSaints.com

New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara said that having a year of experience under his belt will help him build on his rookie season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We could see Kamara approach 1,000 yards rushing with 75 or 80 receptions in 2018. He could do more because his role should be larger...especially with Mark Ingram suspended the first four games of the year. Kamara is a RB1 for Fantasy GMs and has a current ADP of RB5 (1.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

NYJ - Starting gig waiting for Sam Darnold

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets QB Sam Darnold is competing against himself for the starting job during training camp, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, and Mehta believes Darnold will be the starter by the end of the year if he isn't deemed ready to start Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We agree with Mehta that Darnold will be the starter at some point this year. He's the quarterback of the future and the quicker he can be ready for the starting role, the better it is for the staff and Fantasy GMs. We'll see if Darnold can stop turning the ball over as much as he did in college (20 interceptions over his last 20 games at USC).

NE - WR Malcolm Mitchell may not start season

Source: The Providence Journal - Mark Daniels

New England Patriots WR Malcolm Mitchell (knee) underwent a knee procedure Monday, July 23, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mitchell, a fourth-round pick out of Georgia in 2016, has seen his pro career knocked off track due to this knee injury. He is not expected to be available for the start of training camp and could even miss the season. His status as a Patriot is up in the air.

WAS - RB Chris Thompson avoids PUP list

    Source: Sirius XM NFL Radio

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (leg) said he's feeling well for the starting of training camp but that he will take his participation slowly and focus on being ready for the regular season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news for Washington and Fantasy GMs who want Thompson on their team. Thompson has flex appeal and RB2 upside in PPR leagues. He should continue as the change-of-pace back for Washington. We should see rookie Derrius Guice as the lead back in Washington this season. Thompson has a current ADP of RB36 (7.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

CHI - Day off for WR Allen Robinson

Source: NFL Network - Stacey Dales

Updating a previous report, Chicago Bears WR Allen Robinson did not participate in practice Monday, July 23, because it was a scheduled day off for him, according to head coach Matt Nagy.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No big deal here. Robinson is coming back from the knee injury that cost him almost all of the 2017 season with the Jaguars. Expected to be the Bears no.1 wide receiver in 2018, we should see a few more scheduled days off for Robinson as he continues to recover.

BUF - Buffalo intrigued by QB AJ McCarron

Source: Rochester Democrat and Chronicle - Sal Maiorana

Buffalo Bills QB AJ McCarron carried the most intrigue of the free-agent quarterbacks that were available this offseason, according to general manager Brandon Beane, and Beane said he is looking forward to what McCarron is able to do during training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This sounds like some pre-training camp fluff but we'll monitor this quarterback competition. Earlier reports out of minicamp and OTAs indicated that McCarron was being outplayed by Nathan Peterman. Add in rookie first-round pick Josh Allen and you can see why this situation is a mess. Fantasy GMs are not going to look to the Bills passing attack for points in 2018.

SEA - WR Jaron Brown to play big role?

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks WR Jaron Brown's $2.75 million in guarantees is a sign that Seattle plans to give him a significant role, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times, and Condotta expects Brown to be on the field in three-receiver sets.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brown's role should be that of a starting receiver opposite Tyler Lockett with Doug Baldwin manning the slot. Healthy last year after tearing his ACL in 2016, Brown came through with career best numbers (31 catches, 477 yards, four touchdowns). Projecting him for similar numbers this year is fair, but it doesn't make Brown a big fantasy asset. Instead, he might be a 'what the heck' flex off the waiver wire for you during a bye week situation.

KC - WR Eli Rogers leaves without deal

    Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates

Free-agent WR Eli Rogers (Steelers) left his visit with the Kansas City Chiefs without a deal Monday, July 23, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Recent reports about Rogers indicated he could be signing with a new team this week. He could not work out something with the Chiefs at this time and is moving on. Rogers will now visit with the Cleveland Browns, for whom his former offensive coordinator Todd Haley now coaches.

NE - Two Patriots to start on injured lists

    Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates

New England Patriots WR Kenny Britt (hamstring) will start training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list, according to a source. RB Brandon Bolden (undisclosed) will begin camp on the Non-Football Illness list.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Britt's injury is not considered serious. We'll watch him through training camp and the preseason because there could be an opportunity there for the veteran wideout...especially during Julian Edelman's four-game suspension.

KC - RB Spencer Ware to be eased back

    Source: Chiefs.com - Matt McMullen

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (knee) is doing well in his recovery and will be eased back into practice.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ware missed all of last season due to this knee injury. He was going to be a big part of the Chiefs offense before going down in August of 2017. Now, Ware is working to be the primary backup behind Kareem Hunt in 2018. If healthy, Ware should be the no.2 back for the Chiefs and a player to handcuff to Hunt if your league is big enough.

BAL - Two rookie TEs on sidelines

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens TEs Hayden Hurst (undisclosed) and Mark Andrews (undisclosed) are not participating in practice Monday, July 23.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We like both of these rookie prospects in dynasty leagues. They've been missing time early in camp due to 'soft tissue' injuries. When healthy, expect Hurst to compete to be the lead tight end. Andrews is a fine receiving threat but he might begin his pro career as the second or third tight end on the depth chart.

    Wednesday Update

LAR - RB Todd Gurley finalizing huge extension

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley reportedly agreed to terms on a four-year extension worth $60 million - including $45 million guaranteed - on Tuesday, July 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This whopping deal easily resets the standard for top running backs in the league. With guys like Le'Veon Bell and David Johnson waiting for new deals, Gurley's extension gives them numbers to work off of. Gurley is a fantasy darling, and fantasy GMs are taking him off the board early in every draft and in any format. He's the centerpiece of what the Rams do on offense and should continue to be incredibly productive.

NO - WR Michael Thomas avoids PUP list

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas (undisclosed) was not placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list heading into training camp. Thomas had sat out minicamp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy GMs are super excited to see what Thomas can do in year three of his pro career. Each of the last two years, Thomas has finished as a top-10 fantasy receiver...but it doesn't seem like he's yet peaked in his production. Projecting Thomas for 100 catches, 1,200 receiving yards and 5-8 touchdowns seems fair once again. It's a reason why Thomas has a current ADP of WR5 (2.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

CAR - RB Christian McCaffrey primed for 200 carries?

    Source: ESPN.com - David Newton

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey could reach the 200-carry mark, according to head coach Ron Rivera. The coaching staff is reportedly confident McCaffrey can run between the tackles, much like he did in college. McCaffrey has bulked up about five pounds to 210 pounds to be better prepared for the pounding.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCaffrey is a compact and patient runner who could handle more of the workload as a runner. He's not a pile pusher, but McCaffrey can run between the tackles as he knows how to get skinny and make defenders miss in small areas. His current ADP shows how much fantasy GMs love his upside. McCaffrey is currently going off the board at RB12 (2.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

NO - WR Brandon Coleman placed on PUP list

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

New Orleans Saints WR Brandon Coleman (neck) was sent to the Active/ Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday, July 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It always seems to be something with Coleman. He's got incredible size, measuring in at 6'6" 225 pounds but Coleman has yet to truly play up to his potential. Reports from around Saints camp indicate this injury is minor but it's not a good look for a player on the bubble.

OAK - RB Doug Martin making an impression

Source: San Francisco Chronicle - Matt Kawahara

Oakland Raiders RB Doug Martin reportedly 'jumped out' during offseason workouts with his quickness and ability to pick up the offense, according to offensive coordinator Greg Olson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Raiders head coach Jon Gruden wants to throw things back to the 90s, but Martin only has to throw it back to 2015...the last time he was impressive as a runner. That year for the Bucs, Martin had over 1,400 yards rushing and was the no.3 fantasy back. This year, Martin is trying to relaunch his career with his new team. He'll serve as the backup to Marshawn Lynch in 2018, but if Martin is back to his old ways he might push this into more of a RBBC than some think.

NO - WR Cameron Meredith in line to start

Source: The Times-Picayune - Josh Katzenstein

New Orleans Saints WR Cameron Meredith is the best bet to be the team's No. 2 receiver, according to Josh Katzenstein of The Times-Picayune.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Meredith could line up outside opposite Michael Thomas and give Drew Brees yet another quality target to throw to. That leaves Ted Ginn Jr. manning the slot, a position where he can thrive. Meredith has a current ADP of WR51 (11.09) in 12-team PPR leagues. If he's healthy (Meredith missed all of last year with the Bears due to a knee injury), Meredith could easily outperform that draft position.

CLE - More on WR Josh Gordon

    Source: ESPN.com - Pat McManamon

Updating previous reports, Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon is seeking additional counseling to deal with his mental health and anxiety, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gordon has regularly been in touch with his counselors and was told to take the extra time in a proactive move, sources said.

LAC - Hope for TE Antonio Gates back in Los Angeles?

    Source: ESPN.com - Josina Anderson

Free-agent TE Antonio Gates (Chargers) is reportedly very much in the picture to rejoin the Los Angeles Chargers, according to a source, who added it would 'their preference' for a deal to get worked out before the start of training camp, per ESPN's Josina Anderson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It seems like Gates is going to be back with the Chargers in the near future. His name was the first most brought up when Hunter Henry went down with a knee injury in the spring. Gates is no longer the player he used to be but the Chargers don't have much talent at the position without Henry. Right now, free agent addition Virgil Green is their top tight end.

NYJ - Sam Darnold not at camp

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

New York Jets QB Sam Darnold is not reporting to training camp with the rest of the rookies as he has not yet signed his rookie contract. Practices will not actually start until Friday, July 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With rookie contracts slotted, we can't see any problems for Darnold to sign before significant work gets done in training camp. He's seen as the quarterback of the future, and we're expecting the rookie from USC to take over as the starter at some point this season. There's even a chance Darnold wins the job over Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater in training camp. Stay tuned.

OAK - RB DeAndre Washington out of a job?

Source: San Francisco Chronicle - Matt Kawahara

Oakland Raiders RB DeAndre Washington could be on the roster bubble, according to Matt Kawahara of The San Francisco Chronicle.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Washington is third or fourth on the depth chart at best. The team added Doug Martin this offseason and still have Marshawn Lynch to be their lead back. Washington is a smaller/compact back who will have to prove his value on special teams if he wants to stay on the 53-man roster.

DEN - Case Keenum a fan of TE Jake Butt

Source: The Denver Post - Kyle Fredrickson

Denver Broncos TE Jake Butt has made an early impression on the team's new quarterback, Case Keenum, who described Butt as someone 'who wants the ball' and 'hungry for knowledge,' according to Kyle Fredrickson of The Denver Post.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Broncos fans are hoping that Butt can be like Kyle Rudolph was for Keenum last year in Minnesota. Butt missed all of his rookie season recovering from a knee injury suffered in his bowl game at Michigan. The second-year pro has some Rudolph-like qualities to his game, but it usually takes time for tight ends to make an impact in the pros. We love Butt's dynasty stock but there are many other re-draft tight ends we'd rather have...even as reserve/TE2s on our rosters.

BAL - Hayden Hurst back to practice

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens TE Hayden Hurst (undisclosed) returned to practice Tuesday, July 24, after missing two due to a reported soft-tissue injury. CB Jimmy Smith (Achilles') and TE Mark Andrews (undisclosed) were among eight players who did not practice Tuesday, according to ESPN's Jamison Hensley.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hurst and Andrews have been missing time due to soft tissue injuries. The pair of rookie TEs will compete to establish a pecking order at the position. We could see Hurst end up winning the job in the Ravens revamped passing attack.

SF - Matt Breida likely to remain in same role

    Source: 49ers.com - Joe Fann

San Francisco 49ers RB Matt Breida finished with 126 touches as a rookie - a workload that 49ers.com's Joe Fann will match and perhaps exceed by a bit in 2018.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Those projections for Breida in year two are fair. He's competing to be the primary backup behind free agent addition Jerrick McKinnon. Breida would get a big workload if McKinnon missed time and have RB2 value in that instance for Fantasy GMs. Keep this in mind if you want to handcuff a back to McKinnon or jock-block another GM from doing that late in your draft.

GB - WR Geronimo Allison likely to serve as No. 3 WR

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers WR Geronimo Allison will have to fend off competition from Michael Clark and the three receivers selected in the draft this spring, but he 'looks like the best bet' to open the season as the third receiver behind Davante Adams and Randall Cobb, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With Jordy Nelson (Raiders) gone, the Packers are looking for that no.3 WR behind Davante Adams and Randall Cobb. The first shot at that position should go to Allison. He's a big target with a large wingspan and strong hands. Allison has flashed a bit in a part-time role for the Packers and could post career-best numbers in 2018. Keep an eye on him in deep leagues and have Allison on your waiver wire speed dial just in case something happens in front of him on the depth chart.

    Thursday Update

IND - QB Andrew Luck should play in preseason opener

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Wells

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (shoulder) likely will play in the first preseason game in two weeks, according to head coach Frank Reich. Luck is scheduled to practice Thursday, July 26, and Friday, July 27, before receiving a day off Saturday, July 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Colts don't need to rush it with Luck. If he does play in the first preseason game, we can't imagine him playing more than a series or two.

PHI - QB Carson Wentz avoids PUP list

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (knee) will not be placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list at the start of training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wentz has been ahead of schedule in his recovery, so this news comes as no surprise. He will be a limited participant during practices.

HOU - No restrictions for QB Deshaun Watson

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson (knee) has been fully cleared and will not be restricted during training camp, according to general manager Brian Gaine.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news for the Texans, fans of the Texans and Fantasy GMs who are crazy (aren't we all?) about Watson. He's currently going off the board as the second quarterback drafted, only behind Packers superstar Aaron Rodgers. If Watson doesn't change his playing style and regains his pre-injury form we'll be looking at a young superstar for the Texans at the most important position. He's got a great group of weapons around him and a ferocious defense on the other side of the ball. The Texans could make a postseason run in 2018.

CLE - WR Josh Gordon expected to play in 2018

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon (personal) is expected to play at some point during the 2018 season, according to general manager John Dorsey.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He's expected to play, but who knows when that will be. Gordon is away dealing with mental health and anxiety problems. The team is fully supporting him while he's away. Gordon will be placed on the Did Not Report list instead of the Non-Football Injury list.

CLE - WR Dez Bryant an option for Browns

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Free-agent WR Dez Bryant (Cowboys) is an option for the Cleveland Browns, according to general manager John Dorsey.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Most reports this offseason have been about teams having no interest in Bryant. He did have an offer from the Ravens this spring but he turned them down. Since then, things have been quiet in terms of interest. The Browns have an unknown situation with Josh Gordon and Ricardo Louis is now out for the year. Adding Bryant would give them veteran depth and a player who could work into the mix.

CIN - TE Tyler Eifert uncertain for start of camp

    Source: Bengals.com - Geoff Hobson

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (back) is unlikely to practice with the team when training camp begins Thursday, July 26, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's mystery surrounding Eifert's status for the start of the regular season. He made it through just two games in 2017 and fantasy GMs should not be counting on Eifert much even if he does play. We all know the talent is there and the opportunity in the Bengals offense, but the risk is too much to take a chance on in early drafts. Stay tuned.

CLE - WR Jarvis Landry to 'start on the outside'

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns WR Jarvis Landry was primarily a slot receiver with the Miami Dolphins, but he is expected to start on the outside and go deep more often under new offensive coordinator Todd Haley.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Catching 100 passes again this year would not be a surprise for Landry. The Browns gave him $47 million guaranteed to be the focus of the passing game. They may talk about Landry being used more as a deep receiver, but we anticipate he's going to get plenty of work out of the slot with his new team in 2018.

CLE - WR Corey Coleman in line to start

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns WR Corey Coleman will be the starting receiver opposite WR Jarvis Landry as long as WR Josh Gordon is unavailable, according to head coach Hue Jackson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That move makes sense, but keep an eye on this Dez Bryant speculation. The Browns have looked into adding him according to GM John Dorsey, and they could use him with Gordon out and Ricardo Louis out for the year due to injury. They are now thinner at the WR position than anybody expected a week or so ago.

CLE - QB Tyrod Taylor will receive first-team reps

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns QB Tyrod Taylor will receive most of the snaps with the first-team offense during training camp, according to head coach Hue Jackson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Taylor should be the starter for the Browns...at the start of the regular season at least. Rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield has a lot of work to do according to Browns OC Todd Haley. When the Browns season is out of hand, we could see Mayfield take over as the starter since the no.1 overall pick is clearly the quarterback of the future.

NYG - Odell Beckham present for camp

    Source: SNY - Ralph Vacchiano

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. reported for the start of training camp Wednesday, July 25, as expected.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There was a concern that Beckham was going to hold out of training camp, but thoughts changed when he showed up to mandatory minicamp earlier this offseason. Beckham is in the final year of his rookie contract and is looking for a bounce-back season after 2017 was cut short (four games) due to a broken ankle.

    BUF - Josh Allen signs

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen signed his four-year contract Wednesday, July 25. Financial terms weren't disclosed. All first-round picks receive fifth-year options.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Allen has one of the strongest arms in the NFL as a rookie, and he's clearly considered the quarterback of the future in Buffalo. Nathan Peterman and A.J. McCarron will fight with the first-round rookie to be the top quarterback to start the season but we all know this will one day be Allen's job. His accuracy was below average (56.0 percent) for his college career and that' something he needs to improve in the pros. We also believe Allen could be better under pressure, stay with reads and allow plays to develop while manipulating space in the pocket. He's got great upside, and it will be interesting to see what his pro career turns out like.

BAL - Lamar Jackson to see regular-season snaps

Source: Toronto Sun - John Kryk

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson is 'one way or another ... going to be out there, taking snaps,' according to head coach John Harbaugh.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jackson has been the talk of Ravens camp...just ask Joe Flacco. Whether it's as a quarterback or as a gadget player, expect the Ravens to get Jackson's athleticism on the field one way or the other. It's not outrageous to spend the last pick in your draft on Jackson...just to see what happens.

PIT - WR Eli Rogers to go on PUP

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ray Fittipaldo

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Eli Rogers (knee) will be placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list because he is still recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rogers got a bit of interest after the Steelers declined to tender him as a restricted free agent. When healthy, Rogers is trying to make the 53-man roster as a fourth or fifth wide receiver on the depth chart.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed avoids PUP

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (toes) has been medically cleared to start training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's good news for the oft-injured tight end. Fantasy GMs who select Reed should have a good backup at the ready. Head coach Jay Gruden said he will take it slowly with Reed.

IND - RB Marlon Mack played with injury in 2017

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Zak Keefer

Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack said he played last season with a shoulder injury he suffered last training camp but has recovered from offseason surgery and is ready for camp this season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Colts backfield is one of the hottest topics in fantasy football. GMs are wondering who is going to emerge from the pack. We see Mack as the frontrunner right now, but rookies Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins could push him for the top spot. Hines has some Chris Thompson to his game, so the Colts may use him in a similar fashion to Washington's change-of-pace back. Watch this battle unfold during training camp.

NYJ - WR Robby Anderson to report on time

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets WR Robby Anderson will report for training camp with the veterans Thursday, July 26, even though he could still be disciplined by the NFL for his off-field issues.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Anderson came through with a breakout season in 2017, snaring 63 catches for 941 yards and seven touchdowns. We'll see if the league makes any decision to discipline Anderson after some offseason problems. He's currently coming off the board at WR40 (8.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

    Friday Update

PHI - No contact for QB Carson Wentz yet

    Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com - Dave Spadaro

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz's (knee) next step in his recovery is being cleared for contact. Wentz said he likes where he is right now in his progress and remains on set on playing in Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wentz was on fire in his recent press conference, dropping some funny lines throughout. So far it seems like he will be ready to go for the season, which is great for the Eagles and their hopes for back to back championships. Fantasy GMs are seeing him as a low-end QB1 right now, which makes sense given the knee injury. We think he could out-shine that if he's 100 percent.

MIN - RB Dalvin Cook full go for camp

Source: St. Paul Pioneer Press - Chris Tomasson

Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook (knee) will be a full participant at training camp after rehabilitating from his torn anterior cruciate ligament.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We want to see what he can do on the field as soon as possible, but imagine that "full participant" is a relative term as the Vikings don't want him to hurt himself again. There's a lot of arguing as to where Cook should rate on fantasy rankings. He has top ten ability, but people are leery of his ACL injury dragging that down. The going rate for him in early drafts is 10th back off the board and if healthy, he might actually out-perform that.

NYG - Odell Beckham talks to start soon

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr.'s contract negotiations will begin sooner rather than later, according to owner John Mara. Mara said he thinks Beckham is moving in the right direction and that it meant something that he was present for the start of training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Giants want to see him in action, though that may mean after a week or two of the actual season. They want to make sure that he's healthy and able to continue his positive attitude once the fur starts flying for real. We've got him as one of the top receivers in fantasy, and he is going off the board as the 11th player overall in early drafts -- exactly where he should be.

NE - WR Phillip Dorsett used in slot

    Source: NESN.com - Doug Kyed

New England Patriots WR Phillip Dorsett worked as a slot receiver during practice Thursday, July 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With Julian Edelman out for part of the season due to a PDE violation, the Patriots will kick the tires on a few guys to step into the slot. Dorsett has a lot to prove, but we aren't excited by his prospects. That said, watching the Patriots receivers in camp could be important in getting a cheap, but effective, receiver.

BAL - RB Kenneth Dixon tweaks hamstring

Source: The Athletic - Jeff Zrebiec

Baltimore Ravens RB Kenneth Dixon (hamstring) tweaked his hamstring Thursday, July 26, and left practice.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dixon won't see much action unless Alex Collins is hurt. While he showed flashes, he is no more than a handcuff with a late-round price tag.

TB - QB Ryan Fitzpatrick likely to start

    Source: Buccaneers.com - Scott Smith

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is expected to start Week 1, according to head coach Dirk Koetter.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fitzpatrick must have a trained black cat or a magic ladder which appears over quarterbacks around him because it's amazing how often a mediocre quarterback like him can continue to end up with starting jobs. He might not really need one though for Jameis Winston who appears to be his own worst enemy and is suspended three games to start the year. Just because the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are stuck with Fitzpatrick doesn't mean you have to be though, and we would recommend staying well clear of Fitzpatrick. We're not high on Winston either, and he's no more than a QB3 this year, while Fitzpatrick doesn't even rate that high.

ATL - WR Julio Jones has money moved

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating an earlier report, Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones, who was set to make $10.5 million in 2018, had money moved from a future year in his contract adjustment.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The lack of guaranteed money probably caused this fracas in the first place, so a little extra cash helped. The team said they will look at the contract again next offseason, which could cause the same thing, but for now, we expect WR1 numbers from Jones, though those who draft him have to keep expectations low on his touchdown totals, which have dropped each of the last few years.

CLE - WR Josh Gordon needs NFL approval to return?

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon will be required to make a written request to the team for reinstatement, and Commissioner Roger Goodell would need to approve it, according to a league source. GM John Dorsey, who would not comment when asked if Gordon could be facing a suspension, did acknowledge on Wednesday, July 25, that he doesn't know when Gordon will rejoin the team.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This muddies the water a bit, though there was no failed drug test or incident anyone seems to be reporting. Gordon is, and probably always will be a high-risk player, but his ceiling is so high that the reward is worth consideration. As of now, we are taking a wait and see approach.

TEN - WR Rishard Matthews not on field

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans WR Rishard Matthews (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Thursday, July 26, but was in attendance. Head coach Mike Vrabel said Matthews will be on the field when he is cleared and that the team wants to be patient.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Corey Davis and Taywan Taylor should step up this year, with Davis taking over the top spot. The result is Matthews dropping down to the No. 2 spot, which he is more effective in anyway. Right now his ADP is hovering at 50th receiver overall, 123rd player off the board. He looks very much like a rotational player in fantasy, with a few good games and some OK but not great overall production.

BAL - Mark Andrews remains sidelined

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens TE Mark Andrews (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Thursday, July 26, and has missed the last three practices.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Andrews is a little bit of a project, but could be a good seam receiver if he can stay on the field by improving his blocking. He can line up in various positions, so we are anxious to see him compete in camp.

MIA - TE MarQueis Gray, TE A.J. Derby work with starters

Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Miami Dolphins TEs MarQueis Gray and A.J. Derby were on the field with the first-team offense Thursday, July 26, when the team lined up in a two-tight end set.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Dolphins will do a lot of that, and both are decent blockers but not great pass catchers. We are waiting for rookie Mike Gesicki to get a shot, though his blocking leaves much to be desired.

BUF - Buffalo hosts RB Orleans Darkwa

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Free-agent RB Orleans Darkwa (Giants) worked out for the Buffalo Bills Thursday, July 26, according to a source. Darkwa is at full health after recovering from leg surgery this offseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He's no more than a camp body or, at best, bench depth. Darkwa has shown some flashes, but he is unlikely to move the needle in fantasy this season.

PHI - WR Alshon Jeffery to PUP

    Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com

Philadelphia Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery (shoulder) was placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Thursday, July 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This was expected given the torn rotator cuff he had surgery on this offseason. A primary target for Carson Wentz, Jeffery will see plenty of work this year and could be higher than his ADP of 21st receiver off the board if he wasn't recovering from the aforementioned surgery.

CIN - TE Tyler Eifert to PUP but says he's playing Week 1

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (back) is expected to begin camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list after he tweaked his back in the spring.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

On the upside, Eifert said "There is no setback," Eifert said to The Cincinnati Enquirer. "I'm feeling good. This is just the route we chose to take."

Eifert was asked if he'd play Week 1 against Indianapolis?

    "Yeah," Eifert said, "100 percent."

Even without this injury, we're not at a point where we really expect Eifert to perform well enough to roster as more than a low-end TE2. Fantasy GMs are a little higher on him that we are, as he is hovering as the 14th TE off the boards in early drafts. It's not a huge difference, but we aren't that confident in him and with this news, we might see him drop further.

    Saturday Update

GB - WR Randall Cobb had offseason surgery

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Tom Silverstein

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb (ankle) said he had offseason surgery to remove cartilage in his ankle and believes he can move around a lot better now.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cobb has been full speed in practice and this looks like it'll be good for his short and long term durability. Unless he has a setback in camp, this should make you more inclined to draft him at ADP.

CLE - Cleveland has talked with WR Dez Bryant

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Free-agent WR Dez Bryant's (Cowboys) representatives have had discussions with the Cleveland Browns about the possibility of Bryant signing a one-year deal with the Browns, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Write Bryant's name on the Browns roster lightly in pencil. They need him with Josh Gordon gone for who knows how long and few proven durable, experienced outside receivers on the roster. Corey Coleman should still be on the field in three-wide sets in any event and have a chance to build his value in dynasty leagues. Jarvis Landry is looking like the focal point of the pass offense and actually a solid proposition at ADP in PPR leagues.

SEA - RB Chris Carson continues to run with first team

    Source: ESPN.com - Brady Henderson

Seattle Seahawks RB Chris Carson has worked as the No. 1 running back ahead of Rashaad Penny through the first two days of training camp, according to ESPN's Brady Henderson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Seahawks aren't pushing Carson aside despite spending a first on Penny. Carson was almost unanimously cited as the most impressive player in OTAs, and he should force a committee if not hold onto the starting job for Week 1.

BUF - QB AJ McCarron gets chance with starters

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Rodak

Buffalo Bills QB AJ McCarron worked with the first-team offense during practice Friday, July 27. QB Nathan Peterman worked with the starters Thursday, July 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills are going to have one of the worst quarterbacks in the league no matter who starts. Kelvin Benjamin and Charles Clay will get targets by default, but it's hard to believe that they can help make your draft behind a suspect offensive line with McCarron, Peterman, or rough around the edge first-round pick Josh Allen throwing them the ball.

    GB - J'Mon Moore getting first-team reps

Source: Green Bay Press-Gazette - Ryan Wood

Green Bay Packers WR J'Mon Moore is already seeing some time with the first team in training camp. He has reportedly impressed coaches with how quickly he has learned multiple receiver spots.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Geronimo Allison is the favorite for the #3 job, but Moore is more physically gifted and the team likes his size/speed/quickness combination as a downfield receiver. Both should be on your late round flier list until this gets resolved.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed feels like a new man

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (toes) said he feels '100 times better' and is running pain free following multiple surgeries.

Reed is still a major injury risk and if you draft him, you should spend a pick on a top backup or closely monitor the waiver wire, but the injury discount in his ADP has gotten large enough to consider him as your Plan A at tight end.

WAS - RB Rob Kelley day-to-day

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins RB Rob Kelley (illness) left practice early Friday, July 27, because of heat-related symptoms. He is considered day-to-day at this time.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kelley is trying to stay above Samaje Perine on the depth chart and maybe even give Washington ideas about releasing Perine, but for now that roster battle is on hold.

NYJ - WR Quincy Enunwa in non-contact jersey

    Source: SNY - Ralph Vacchiano

New York Jets WR Quincy Enunwa (neck) was wearing a non-contact jersey during practice Friday, July 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Enunwa's neck injury is still limiting him, so it's fair to wonder if he'll be ready to start, or perhaps Jermaine Kearse will retain his surprising 2017 value. Terrelle Pryor is also coming back from injuries, so there's still a lot to be sorted out in the Jets wide receiver corps.

TEN - TE Delanie Walker lands two-year extension

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans TE Delanie Walker agreed to a two-year contract extension Friday, July 27. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Walker is one of the league's most underrated players and he has rare staying power and longevity at one of the toughest positions in the league. He's still a solid TE1, although 2017 third-round pick Jonnu Smith is going to have a larger role and possibly cap Walker's upside. This is a great sign the Titans see no imminent dropoff in Walker's future.

    Sunday Update

NYJ - RB Elijah McGuire not out for the year

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Updating a previous report, New York Jets RB Elijah McGuire (foot) does have a broken foot but the injury is not expected to end his season, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's good news for McGuire if true. He suffered a foot injury that requires surgery and is clearly a candidate to begin the regular season on the Injured Reserve/Return list.

NYJ - NYJ meeting with RB Alfred Morris

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Free-agent RB Alfred Morris (Cowboys) is meeting with the New York Jets Saturday, July 28, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jets have to add depth at the RB position after losing Eli McGuire to a foot injury. His status is unknown at the time, but the second-year back is expected to miss significant time. Morris is quite unlike McGuire in many aspects. He's not the receiving threat that McGuire is and would be more of an addition for veteran depth at the position.

ARI - QB Sam Bradford on track to start

    Source: AZCardinals.com - Kyle Odegard

Arizona Cardinals QB Sam Bradford is the clear favorite for the starting quarterback job, according to head coach Steve Wilks.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's not a surprise given Bradford's experience as a starter in the NFL. QBs Josh Rosen and Mike Glennon will be competing for the No. 2 quarterback job. We expect 2018 first-round pick Josh Rosen to take over at some point this season as he's the quarterback of the future.

KC - RB Kareem Hunt continues to be limited

    Source: ESPN.com - Adam Teicher

Kansas City Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt (hamstring) was limited to individual drills during practice Saturday, July 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's a wise move for the Chiefs. Head coach Andy Reid said the team is easing Hunt back into practice because he does not want Hunt to suffer a setback.

KC - Rave reviews for WR Sammy Watkins

    Source: The Associated Press

Kansas City Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins was praised for his work ethic by head coach Andy Reid, and QB Patrick Mahomes said it has been easy to develop chemistry with Watkins.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watkins won't always be drawing #1 corners, and his quarterback has a tremendous deep arm and creativity. This should be be a bounceback year for him, the only question is how big it will be.

NYJ - RB Orleans Darkwa visits Jets

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Jordan Raanan

Free-agent RB Orleans Darkwa (Giants) met with the New York Jets Saturday, July 28, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's the second AFC East team that Darkwa has visited now. He spent some time with the Bills earlier this week. Back in June, Darkwa revealed via Twitter that he has been medically cleared for football activities following offseason surgery to remove a plate from his leg. In 15 games with the Giants last year, Darkwa rushed for 751 yards and averaged 4.4 yards per carry. Now that training camp is here around the league, some team may call on him for veteran depth and to compete for a roster spot.

IND - Indy will meet with RB Orleans Darkwa

    Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan

Free-agent RB Orleans Darkwa (Giants) is scheduled to meet with the Indianapolis Colts in the near future.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With all this recent interest in Darkwa, we could see him signed soon. The Bills and Jets have already visited with him, and the veteran back could find a new home now that training camps are open. The Colts already have a jam-packed backfield with plenty of talent so he may be an odd fit there.

HOU - WR Will Fuller bulks up

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans WR Will Fuller said he up to 185 pounds by working out and eating more often and has not lost any of his speed. He bulked up so he could improve his durability.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fuller is a speed demon, and we're certain this extra weight is not going to slow him down. Instead, the increased size should help him better deal with the punishment that he's going to take in the NFL. A first-round pick in 2016, Fuller has never played a full 16 game season and has missed eight games the last two years due to injuries. He's currently going off the board at WR31 (6.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

TEN - TE Delanie Walker sits out Saturday

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans TE Delanie Walker did not participate in practice Saturday, July 28, because it was a scheduled day off for him.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Veterans are just going to get some breathers during training camp. This day was one of those for Walker. He's a TE1 for Fantasy GMs, currently going off the board at TE8 (7.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

DET - WR Marvin Jones unable to finish practice

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (knee) left practice early Saturday, July 28, after suffering an apparent knee injury but said his knee was fine after practice.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones got some attention from the trainers and tried to walk the injury off. As long as he doesn't miss more than a week of practice, any absence is precautionary and shouldn't be counted against his fantasy profile.

NE - WR Kenny Britt may return soon

Source: Boston Herald - Kevin Duffy

New England Patriots WR Kenny Britt (hamstring) did not participate in practice Saturday, July 28, because he is receiving treatment on his hamstring, according to a source. The team hopes he can return to the field in the next few days.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Patriots might have had designs on Britt getting snaps outside when Julian Edelman is out, but this is a big hitch in that plan. His sleeper status is on hold until this resolves itself.

OAK - WR Jordy Nelson still a burner?

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Charean Williams

Oakland Raiders WR Jordy Nelson can still run and is 'one of the fastest skill guys' on the team, according to QB Derek Carr, and head coach Jon Gruden said Nelson can still lineup anywhere and run any route.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With all due respect to Nelson and Carr, there is little evidence of this on 2017 tape. Nelson will start, but will never approach the value he had with Aaron Rodgers again.

BUF - WR Rod Streater keeps making plays

Source: The Buffalo News - Mark Gaughan

Buffalo Bills WR Rod Streater has made impressive catches each of the first two days of training camp, according to Mark Gaughan of the Buffalo News, and Gaughan believes Streater could emerge as the No. 4 receiver. 'It's just going out here and making plays and being consistent,' Streater said. 'You continue to compete and hopefully things work out.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With Kelvin Benjamin's on again, off again injury issue and Zay Jones questions on and off of the field, Streater could actually start at some point, but that's still probably not worth much outside of very deep dynasty leagues.

BUF - WR Jeremy Kerley holding down the slot

Source: The Buffalo News - Mark Gaughan

Buffalo Bills WR Jeremy Kerley opened training camp as the starting slot receiver.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kerley could easily lead this team in catches, but that might not be enough to make him relevant for fantasy in this offense.

NYJ - WR Terrelle Pryor remains limited

Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo

New York Jets WR Terrelle Pryor (ankle) said his ankle is feeling good, but he was limited in practice Friday, July 27, and is expected to remain limited for the foreseeable future.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pryor is only a likely member of the 53 man roster because of his guaranteed two million dollars. He's probably only going to be depth for this team with his slow recovery.

JAX - WR Dede Westbrook moving around

    Source: FirstCoastNews.com - Mike Kaye

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Dede Westbrook lined up as an outside receiver as well as a slot receiver during practice Friday, July 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Westbrook will need versatility to get on the field this year as probably the #4 or #5 receiver, although Donte Moncrief and Marqise Lee aren't known for their durability.
