NFL Player News - Week of 6/25/18

    Courtesy of Footballguys.com

DEN - Big role for Royce Freeman?

    Source: NFL.com - Bucky Brooks

Denver Broncos RB Royce Freeman has a chance to do 'Kareem Hunt type things,' according to Bucky Brooks of NFL.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brooks called Freeman one of his favorite sleepers in the 2018 NFL draft. Freeman is going to have a chance to lead the way on the ground for the Broncos. They've been saying for months that they are going to be a run-heavy team...and it fits their strength (playing defense). Freeman will have to prove himself in pass protection and show better than incumbent Devontae Booker in training camp. There's some RB2 value for fantasy owners in Denver's backfield.

JAX - RB Leonard Fournette the focal point?

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike DiRocco

Jacksonville Jaguars OG Andrew Norwell's signing is an indication that the offense will be built around RB Leonard Fournette and the running game, according to Mike DiRocco of ESPN.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's not exactly a hot take, but it's the right thing for the Jaguars to do. They've got some new weapons in the passing game for QB Blake Bortles, but this team goes as far as Fournette and that world class defense can carry them. Fournette is a top-10 fantasy RB option and a late first round pick in most any format.

CIN - WR A.J. Green content with contract

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green reportedly supports Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones' quest for an 'updated' contract, but he has no plans to do the same and appears happy to play under the current terms of his contract ($10.55 million for 2018 and $11.976 million for 2019).

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Green is currently the sixth-highest paid WR in the league, and if Jones gets a new contract then that will push the Bengals veteran further down the list. He's had over 1,000 yards receiving each season of his career except one (2016) when he was hurt and only played in 10 games. If healthy, Green should once again surpass the 1,000-yard mark as the centerpiece of the Bengals passing attack.

JAX - QB Blake Bortles feeling more comfortable

Source: Orlando Sentinel - George Diaz

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles recently told The Orlando Sentinel he feels like he is 'owning the offense' and has a better understanding of it this season after admitting he was working at more of an 'elementary level' at the start of last season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jaguars are built to make a Super Bowl run...if Bortles can get them over the top. They fell just short last year, losing to the Patriots in the AFC Championship Game where Bortles played a good game with 293 passing yards and a touchdown. The defense can take them far, but a more comfortable Bortles should help the offense play with more efficiency and effectiveness. The new weapons around Bortles should help him too. From a fantasy perspective, Bortles is a bye-week filler and QB3 who is going undrafted in most 12-team leagues.

WAS - WR Jamison Crowder making favorable impression

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins WR Jamison Crowder is healthy after a season in which he dealt with hamstring issues and is focusing on doing more of the dynamic lifts in college in order to avoid them this season. He has also 'clearly clicked' with Alex Smith this offseason, according to ESPN.com's John Keim.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's great news for Crowder, and we'll be watching to see if the chemistry with Smith carries over into training camp and the preseason. Crowder struggled through the hamstring problems in 2017, and he finished the year as a low-end WR3 for fantasy owners. This year, Crowder is poised for a breakout year from the slot as Josh Doctson and Paul Richardson should be attacking from the outside of the formation.

BUF - More of the same for TE Charles Clay?

Source: The Buffalo News - Jay Skurski

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay should finish with around 50 catches and 600 receiving yards in 2018, according to Jay Skurski of the Buffalo News.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's a reasonable expectation for Clay provided he stays healthy. The Bills offense is going to once again run through RB LeSean McCoy, and the passing attack is going to have inexperience at QB no matter if rookie Josh Allen, free agent addition A.J. McCarron or second-year pro Nathan Peterman starts. He's a low-end TE2 for fantasy owners.

BAL - WR Chris Moore taking the next step

    Source: BaltimoreRavens.com - Garrett Downing

Baltimore Ravens WR Chris Moore has been 'consistently getting open and making the plays' during practices, wide receivers coach Bobby Engram said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Moore is a deep threat and that's the best part of his game. That's what he was in college at Cincinnati A fourth-round pick in 2016, Moore is competing for pecking order on the Ravens depth chart behind Michael Crabtree, John Brown and Willie Snead. We'll continue to monitor his progress in dynasty formats.

    Tuesday Update

GB - WR Randall Cobb hobbled

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Michael Cohen

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb (ankle) could miss the start of training camp due to a right ankle injury, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He is in a walking boot but didn't say whether he had surgery. The boot is just temporary according to Cobb, but this news isn't what you want to hear if you're a Packers fan. With Jordy Nelson (Raiders) gone, Cobb is set to be the no.2 target in the passing game behind Davante Adams. His status for the start of training camp is up in the air, and we won't know about his Week 1 availability until more news about this new injury comes out.

CIN - RB Joe Mixon headed for 1,000 yards?

    Source: NFL.com - Gil Brandt

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon should break 1,000 yards behind a revamped offensive line this season, in the opinion of Gil Brandt of NFL.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bengals made strides to improve their offensive line this offseason by trading for OT Cordy Glenn and selecting C Billy Price in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft. Those moves should help provide better running room for Mixon this year. His rookie season was a mixed bag, but the talent is there for him to easily be a 1,000 yard rusher in the pros. Fantasy owners are taking him off the board at RB15 (2.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

SEA - WR Tyler Lockett an impact player

    Source: Seahawks.com - John Boyle

Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett said he is healthier than he has ever been, and head coach Pete Carroll said having Lockett healthy is 'really positive' for the offense.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Injuries have robbed Lockett of his explosiveness each of the last two years. The ability is there for him to produce at WR3 levels for fantasy owners, and the opportunity may be there for him to do that in 2018...provided he stays healthy. With TE Jimmy Graham and WR Paul Richardson gone, the Seahawks are looking for someone to pick up the slack in the passing game opposite WR Doug Baldwin.

ATL - Big year for TE Austin Hooper?

    Source: AtlantaFalcons.com - Will McFadden

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper 'should continue to ascend' in his second season in offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian's system, according to Gil Brandt of NFL.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hooper is getting better as his pro career continues. Entering his third season with the Falcons, Hooper could produce like a TE2 for fantasy owners if he plays up to his full potential.

MIA - WR Albert Wilson's speed standing out

Source: The Palm Beach Post - Hal Habib

Miami Dolphins WR Albert Wilson's speed has been 'hard to ignore,' according to head coach Adam Gase. 'He's a guy that can take a throw behind the line of scrimmage and he can create a 70-yard touchdown,' Gase said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wilson's game with the Chiefs was all about speed, and he was certainly a favorite target of QB Alex Smith. Moving to the Dolphins in free agency, Wilson is trying to make a positive impression on his new QB Ryan Tannehill. Wilson is competing with WR Danny Amendola for third on the depth chart behind Kenny Stills and DeVante Parker.

KC - RB Spencer Ware making progress

    Source: ArrowheadPride.com - Pete Sweeney

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (knee) has been limited to individual drills during spring practices, according to head coach Andy Reid, but Reid expects Ware to be ready in the coming weeks.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see if Ware can begin training camp on the practice field or if he needs a bit more time coming back from his LCL/PCL injury. The Chiefs backfield is somewhat crowded behind starter Kareem Hunt with guys like Damien Williams and Kerwynn Williams added this offseason.

DEN - Royce Freeman has an opening

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeff Legwold

Updating previous reports, Denver Broncos RB Royce Freeman has the opportunity to be the team's lead back, according to head coach Vance Joseph.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Freeman is going to compete in training camp with Devontae Booker for the starting job. The Broncos are going to be a run-heavy team, and fantasy owners need to watch this situation closely to see if one back emerges as the bellcow. Booker has done little to impress (3.6 YPC average) in two years, and Freeman could have RB2 value for fantasy owners if he's the lead back for the Broncos.

    Wednesday Update

PIT - Progress in Le'Veon Bell talks

    Source: NFL.com - Chris Wesseling

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell said on NFL Network that the two sides are a lot closer on a contract extension than they were last season. 'That's what I'm happy about,' Bell said. 'None of that matters if we don't get it done. Hopefully we'll try to get something done. That's what I'm looking forward to. I got confidence we'll get it done. I want to do it.' Bell said he didn't think he'd have fewer touches in offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner's system. However, he could have more catches than rushes sometimes.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bell held out through training camp last year after getting the franchise tag, and he says he's prepared to do the same in 2018. Progress is great, but deals get done at deadlines in the NFL. That means we should look for something to happen (if at all) in mid-July.

WAS - Derrius Guice the favorite to start

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice will make 'a big impact from the get-go,' and it would be surprising if someone other than him opened the season as the starter, according to ESPN's John Keim.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's what everyone is expecting at this point, and we'll see if the rookie from LSU can prove himself during training camp and the preseason. Guice fell in the draft due to off-field/motivation concerns and has a chip on his shoulder since he feels he should've been a first-round pick. Right now, fantasy owners are taking Guice off the board at RB19 (4.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

CLE - Nick Chubb could get bulk of early-down work

    Source: ESPN.com - Pat McManamon

Cleveland Browns RB Nick Chubb appears to have a very good chance at getting the bulk of the every-down carries, especially early in games, according to ESPN's Pat McManamon.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Chubb has tremendous talent and has a natural feel for running the ball between the tackles. He'll compete with free agent addition Carlos Hyde to be the team's lead back while Duke Johnson Jr. will stay as the primary third-down and pass-catching weapon out of the backfield. Chubb is going off the board at RB41 (9.02) in current 12-team PPR league drafts.

DAL - TE Geoff Swaim likely top option at TE

Source: The Dallas Morning News - Jon Machota

Dallas Cowboys TE Geoff Swaim appears to be the leading candidate for the starting tight end job this season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We've seen plenty of positive reports about Swaim this offseason, and we'll be watching to see what he can do in training camp and the preseason. Without WR Dez Bryant and TE Jason Witten, the Cowboys passing attack is going to look much different this year. Swaim will have to prove he's the more valuable starter than other TEs like Rico Gathers or Blake Jarwin.

ARI - JJ Nelson wants to be complete WR

    Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals WR JJ Nelson said he is looking to be more than a deep threat and believes the new offensive scheme will help him become a more complete receiver.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see if Nelson can play like more than just a speed buy who stretches the defense vertically. With John Brown (Ravens) gone, there's an opportunity for someone like Nelson to emerge as a primary target in the passing game behind WR Larry Fitzgerald and RB David Johnson. Entering his fourth year and coming off back-to-back seasons with more than 500 yards receiving in each, Nelson is poised for a breakout year if he wins that no.2 spot. Brice Butler and rookie Christian Kirk will compete with Nelson for targets in 2018.

DAL - WR Noah Brown saw time with starters

Source: The Dallas Morning News - Jon Machota

Dallas Cowboys WR Noah Brown received some snaps with the first-team offense during offseason workouts and minicamp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A seventh-round pick out of Ohio State in 2017, Brown is a player to monitor in dynasty leagues. Injuries set him back during his college career, but Brown has the size (6'2" 222 pounds) to be at least an interesting red-zone target in the new look Cowboys passing game. We'll see if he can stay healthy and produce with more opportunity in 2018 after snaring only four passes for 33 yards as a rookie.

SF - TE George Kittle added more muscle

Source: San Jose Mercury News - Curtis Pashelka

San Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle took steps to add more muscle mass during the offseason in hopes that it will prevent some of the injuries that bothered him throughout last season. He's also been practicing catching the ball away from his body during informal throwing sessions with QBs Jimmy Garoppolo and C.J. Beathard.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kittle is an exciting TE2 with upside for fantasy owners in 2018. A fifth-round pick out of Iowa in 2017, Kittle should be a security blanket for QB Jimmy Garropolo.

    Thursday Update

IND - No pain for QB Andrew Luck

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Zak Keefer

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (shoulder) said he is feeling no pain in his surgically repaired shoulder.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is great news for Luck, Colts fans and fantasy owners alike. He said he will continue with his plan of throwing for a few days then taking a day off until training camp. We'll see the Colts ease Luck into action during training camp and the preseason.

HOU - QB Deshaun Watson not changing play

Source: Daily Press - Dave Johnson

Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson (knee) said he will not change his style of play even though he is recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

In seven games last year, Watson set the league on fire...mostly with his arm (19 passing touchdowns) but also with his legs. During that time, Watson ran 36 times for 269 yards and two touchdowns. He injured his knee in November, but Watson is on track to participate fully in training camp and the preseason.

KC - WR Sammy Watkins learning multiple spots

    Source: ESPN.com - Adam Teicher

Kansas City Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins has been learning all of the team's receiver positions during the offseason, which will allow him to line up all over the field. Watkins says head coach Andy Reid has been helping him become a better player by making him learn the entire route tree.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He's always had the ability to do more, but injury and inconsistency have held back Watkins during his pro career. Now with the Chiefs, Watkins joins a talented group of weapons including guys like WR Tyreek Hill, RB Kareem Hunt and TE Travis Kelce. With only one 1,000-yard season (2015) to his name, we could see Watkins approach those numbers...if he can stay healthy...in 2018.

CHI - RB Tarik Cohen moving around

    Source: NFL.com - Chris Wesseling

Chicago Bears RB Tarik Cohen said he lined up at multiple positions during offseason workouts in head coach Matt Nagy's offensive scheme.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's a good move for the Bears new head coach. Nagy was incredibly creative with weapons like WR Tyreek Hill in Kansas City, and we can't wait to see what he can do with a player that has Cohen's skill set. Cohen is not as fast as Hill, but he's lightning quick and can create his own space as a runner or after the catch. He is going off the board at RB31 (6.08) in 12-team PPR leagues, showing what kind of flex appeal he's got for fantasy owners in 2018.

MIN - WR Stefon Diggs could receive extension

    Source: ESPN.com - Courtney Cronin

Minnesota Vikings WR Stefon Diggs is one of the players that the Vikings would like to sign to a contract extension, according to general manager Rick Spielman.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A fifth-round pick in 2015, Diggs is in the final year of his rookie contract. Diggs has never played a full 16-game season, but he does seemed poised for a breakout in 2018. We'll see what kind of connection he can build with new QB Kirk Cousins, and projecting Diggs for the first 1,000-yard season of his career is not outlandish (career high of 903 yards in 2016).

    Friday Update

TB - QB Jameis Winston suspended three games

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston was suspended by the NFL for three games for violating the league's personal-conduct policy Thursday, June 28. He will not file an appeal.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

According to the NFL, his next misstep could result in a lifetime ban. Not that this is the most important thing, you do come here for fantasy advice. So as we thought when this first surfaced, this really dings Winston's fantasy value. His ADP had already begun to shift, dropping to 17th quarterback off the board recently. It might drop a bit more, but not too much.

GB - RB Aaron Jones needs to improve blocking

Source: USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin - Aaron Nagler

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones needs to improve his work in pass protection to see more time on the field, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's Aaron Nagler, who says Jones is lagging behind RB Jamaal Williams in that department.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That gives Jamaal Williams a little leg up, but we've got a lot of summer to go. Williams is going as the 33rd running back off the board now, while Jones is hovering at 39. Both could be decent values but this early on, the job could go either way or, painfully, it could be an RBBC, so tread carefully.

LAR - WR Cooper Kupp defeated press as a rookie

    Source: Pro Football Focus

Los Angeles Rams WR Cooper Kupp caught 18-of-23 targets for 320 yards against press coverage in 2017. His receiver rating of 147.7 and catch rate of 78.3 percent were both ranked third among receivers with at least 10 targets, according to Pro Football Focus.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kupp was really solid last season, totaling 869 yards off those catches as well as five touchdowns. Brandin Cooks and Robert Woods are there which will probably limit his impact a bit, though he could pass Woods at some point. He's the 34th receiver coming off the board, with an overall ADP of 84, which seems reasonable, with some upside to spare.

SEA - WR Doug Baldwin excelled against press in 2018

    Source: Pro Football Focus

Seattle Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin recorded a catch rate of 74.2 percent and a receiver rating of 149.1 against press coverage in 2017, according to Pro Football Focus. Baldwin, was one of just seven receivers to see at least 30 targets against press coverage without a single drop, finished with 23 catches on 31 targets for 339 yards and five touchdowns against press coverage last season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Baldwin is a tremendous receiver and a beast out of the slot position. He's also Russell Wilson's top target. Hopefully the offensive line gives Wilson time to throw a solid pass this year. We think they could, which makes him a high-end WR2 option, about where he's going in drafts.

NO - WR Ted Ginn Jr. burned press coverage in 2018

    Source: Pro Football Focus

New Orleans Saints WR Ted Ginn Jr. recorded a catch rate of 88.2 percent and a perfect receiver rating of 158.3 against press coverage in 2017, according to Pro Football Focus. Both marks were the best in the league among receivers who finished with at least 10 targets.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Last season did see a drop in targets from 95 to 70, but he still managed over 700 yards and four touchdowns, increasing his yards per catch average by a full yard, though still below his career high of 16.8 in 2015. He caught almost as many balls on less targets last year too, which will happen when Drew Brees becomes your quarterback. The downside is we expect him to lose some snaps to Cameron Meredith and Tre'Quan Smith. His ADP is 61 right now, and we expect it to hold there.

    Saturday Update

IND - RB Robert Turbin handed four-game ban

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Indianapolis Colts RB Robert Turbin was suspended for four games for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs Friday, June 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

An elbow injury limited Turbin to just six games in 2017. The Colts added talent to their backfield this offseason, so Turbin is trying to compete in a jam-packed room. Upon his return, Turbin is competing for a spot on the depth chart behind guys like Jordan Wilkins, Nyheim Hines and Marlon Mack.

TB - NFL warns QB Jameis Winston about future acts

    Source: NFL.com - Marc Sessler

Updating previous reports, Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston will face 'more substantial discipline, including a potential ban from the NFL' for future violations of the personal conduct policy, according to a statement released by the league.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The no.1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft is no stranger when it comes to getting into trouble...mostly from his days in college at Florida State. The Buccaneers picked up his fifth-year option, and Winston is under their control through the 2019 season. They'll have to make a decision as to whether or not Winston can stay out of trouble, stay healthy and finally start playing up to his potential. Winston will miss the first three games of the 2018 season and is eligible to return for a road matchup against the Bears in Week 4.

NE - TE Dwayne Allen on the bubble in New England?

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots TE Dwayne Allen is due a $4.5 million base salary and $5 million cap charge for 2018, possibly putting him in the conversation to be released later this summer, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There is zero dead money remaining on Allen's contract, so the Patriots can easily move on and save $5 million if they'd like. Allen is not much of a receiving threat, and the team should be able to find a blocking tight end for a much better price.

LAR - WR Robert Woods handled off-coverage in 2017

    Source: Pro Football Focus

Los Angeles Rams WR Robert Woods finished with 44 catches for 608 yards against off-man coverage in 2017, generating a 134.3 receiver rating in such situations - the third-best mark in the NFL.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Injuries limited Woods to 12 games in 2017, but he still posted career-best numbers in receiving yardage (781) and touchdowns (5). Brandin Cooks was added to be the lead WR for the Rams in 2018, so Woods stays in his role of the no.2 receiver and he'll get the coverage to match. Fantasy owners see Woods as a WR4, and he's going off the board at WR37 (8.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

KC - WR Tyreek Hill excellent against off-man coverage

    Source: Pro Football Focus

Kansas City Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill tallied 61 catches on 78 targets and racking up a league-leading 924 receiving yards against off-man coverage in 2017. His receiver rating of 136.3 was second in the league, trailing only new teammate Sammy Watkins, per Pro Football Focus.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It will be interesting to see how Hill is used this year with the addition of Sammy Watkins. The team is moving Watkins all over the formation, but fantasy owners still see Hill as a high-end WR2. After a breakout season in 2017 (no.4 fantasy WR in standard-scoring leagues), Hill is going off the board near the middle of the third round in most drafts.

KC - WR Sammy Watkins thrived versus off-man coverage

    Source: Pro Football Focus

Kansas City Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins caught 20-of-39 targets for 329 receiving yards and four touchdowns against off-man coverage as a member of the Los Angeles Rams in 2017, giving him a league-best receiver rating of 139.7. Watkins was also one of only two receivers to see 30 targets against off-man coverage without dropping a single pass.

We'll see if Watkins can have the same amount of success versus similar coverage in the AFC West this year. The Chiefs are reportedly moving him all around the formation in an effort to get Watkins open in a multitude of ways. Watkins has a current ADP of WR32 (7.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

    Sunday Update

WAS - TE Jordan Reed done next year?

    Source: NBCSportsWashington.com - Rich Tandler

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed's (toes) contract may not be renewed next season if he can't stay on the field in 2018. The Redskins would save more than $6.1 million in salary cap space by letting Reed go. On the bright side, head coach Jay Gruden said he is on track to be ready for training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Back in 2016 Reed signed a six-year, $48 million contract with $22 million guaranteed. During the last two years, Reed has only appeared in 18 games...and only six last year due to injury. Everyone under the sun knows he's a talented prospect when healthy, but staying on the field has been a real problem for Reed since he came into the league as a third-round pick out of Florida in 2013. He's a TE1 when healthy, but Reed comes with a huge injury risk having never played a full 16-game season during his pro career.

GB - QB Aaron Rodgers working on new deal

Source: 620 WTMJ - Jay Sorgi

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is having discussions about a long-term extension that is expected to give him the largest per-year contract in NFL history. Team president Mark Murphy said he hopes to have the deal done soon. Murphy also said Rodgers (collarbone) is healthy.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rodgers had no problem performing during OTAs, should be full go for training camp, and come Week 1 it should be business as usual for the future Hall of Fame quarterback. Matt Ryan's new deal puts him at $30 million annually (tops in the league) while Rodgers ranks 10th in the NFL with a current average annual salary of $22 million. Expect Rodgers new paycheck to be larger than Ryan's, and with both sides working to get something done we don't see anything derailing this process.

NYG - WR Cody Latimer to shine in bigger role?

    Source: Giants.com

New York Giants WR Cody Latimer never played more than 34 percent of the offensive snaps while with the Denver Broncos, and Lance Medow of Giants.com believes Latimer could produce if given an expanded role.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Latimer has always flashed potential, mostly in training camp with the Broncos, but he's failed on the field for the most part during games that count. He didn't mesh well with QB Peyton Manning and couldn't produce for the Broncos after Manning retired. Latimer is strong, fast and physical...plus he's capable of making crazy catches in the air or near the sideline. He has yet to produce at the expected level, but call us crazy...we'll still monitor his progress with the Giants in deep dynasty leagues.

LAR - WR Robert Woods improved timing with QB

    Source: ESPN.com - Lindsey Thiry

Los Angeles Rams WR Robert Woods said the offense is 'more advanced' this year, and there has been a 'big improvement' with the timing between himself and QB Jared Goff.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Woods would do more this year if he can stay healthy. Injuries limited him to only 12 games in 2017, yet he still posted career bests in receiving yardage (781) and touchdowns (5). As the second option in the Rams passing attack opposite Brandin Cooks, Woods is going off the board at WR37 (8.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

LAR - Big plays coming for WR Brandin Cooks?

    Source: ESPN.com - Lindsey Thiry

Los Angeles Rams WR Brandin Cooks has been 'able to get to that deep ball' consistently over the last few years, according to head coach Sean McVay.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's going to be exciting to see Cooks haul in deep passes from QB Jared Goff this year. Fantasy owners are certainly excited about Cooks upside, and that's why he's getting drafted at WR23 (5.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

MIN - WR Stefon Diggs could become free agent after 2018

    Source: CBSSports.com - Joel Corry

Minnesota Vikings WR Stefon Diggs could become a free agent after the 2018 season if the team is unable to sign him to a contract extension, in the opinion of Joel Corry of CBSSports.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A fifth-round pick out of Maryland in the 2015 NFL draft, Diggs is in the final year of his contract in 2018 and set to make $1.9 million this year. The franchise tag for wide receivers is expected to be about $17 million, so that doesn't seem to be the best option for keeping Diggs around in the future.

NYG - WR Roger Lewis impressed in minicamp

    Source: Giants.com - John Schmeelk

New York Giants WR Roger Lewis made some 'big plays' while working with QB Davis Webb and the second-team offense during minicamp, according to John Schmeelk of Giants.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lewis had 36 catches for the Giants last year in a reserve role. The team added WR Cody Latimer in free agency, and those two will position themselves for a spot on the depth chart behind Odell Beckham Jr. and Sterling Shepard.

NO - TE Josh Hill back on the field

Source: The New Orleans Advocate - Nick Underhill

New Orleans Saints TE Josh Hill (finger) participated in June minicamp following offseason finger surgery.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hill was a big receiving threat in college at Idaho State (led the nation in receptions for a TE back in 2012 with 70 catches), but he's snared just 67 passes in five years. He's a blocker mostly now and a reserve tight end for the Saints, once again behind Ben Watson.

SEA - Rashaad Penny brings versatility

    Source: NFL.com - Gil Brandt

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny 'can do everything,' according to Gild Brandt of NFL.com, and Brandt believes head coach Pete Carroll will know how to use Penny effectively.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Penny was the team's first-round pick and we expect him to take over as the lead back ASAP. If he proves himself in pass protection, the rookie from San Diego State could be the Seahawks Week 1 starter. Penny only caught 42 passes in college (19 in 2017), but he does have soft hands and can turn it upfield quickly upon securing the catch.

LAR - WR Cooper Kupp to be busy in 2018?

    Source: NFL.com - Gil Brandt

Los Angeles Rams WR Cooper Kupp 'gets open and catches everything, according to Gil Brandt of NFL.com, and Brandt believes Kupp could reach 90 receptions in 2018.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kupp was a steady performer for the Rams as a rookie in 2017. We're expecting and projecting more of the same for him. Kupp is quick and runs great routes, so he should continue to be a favorite target of QB Jared Goff. We should see Brandin Cooks and Robert Woods do the damage on the outside with Kupp cleaning things up from the slot. He's a WR4 with upside for fantasy owners, currently going at WR39 (8.10) in 12-team PPR leagues.
