NFL Player News - Week 4

    Courtesy of Footballguys.com

Seahawks | Doug Baldwin day-to-day Mon Sep 25, 09:38 PM Seattle Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin (groin) is considered day-to-day after undergoing tests on the strained groin he suffered in Week 3, according to sources. He may have a chance to play in the team's Week 4 game.

Footballguys view: Keep an eye on Baldwin's status as the week of practice goes on. The Seattle offense finally showed some life in Week 3, and Baldwin is the centerpiece of what they do in the passing game. He may end up as a game-time decision for Seattle's Week 4 Sunday Night Football game against the Colts.

Panthers | Ed Dickson may be more involved Mon Sep 25, 09:30 PM Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said he has told coaches that he wants TE Ed Dickson to be more involved in the offense.
Footballguys view: Dickson has plenty of athleticism, but he's never been able to play up to that potential. He hasn't had over 28 yards receiving in a game since Week 16 of the 2014 season.

Giants | Orleans Darkwa does not have serious injury Mon Sep 25, 08:00 PM New York Giants RB Orleans Darkwa's (back) back injury is not serious, and he has a chance to participate in practice this week, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Good news for Darkwa, a player who has been banged up quite a bit during his pro career. Too bad the Giants aren't running the football with success.

Titans | Corey Davis has a chance to play Mon Sep 25, 07:16 PM Tennessee Titans WR Corey Davis (hamstring) has not been ruled out for the team's Week 4 game at this point, according to head coach Mike Mularkey.

Footballguys view: The rookie missed the Week 3 game against the Seahawks and his status for this week is unknown.

Titans | Derrick Henry will be fine Mon Sep 25, 06:56 PM Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry (thigh) will be able to play in Week 4 even though he suffered a thigh contusion in Week 3, according to head coach Mike Mularkey.

Footballguys view: Henry was bruised up against the Seahawks on Sunday but he'll be out there in Week 4. He'll continue to serve as a backup to Demarco Murray.

Colts | Andrew Luck ruled out for Week 4 Mon Sep 25, 06:50 PM Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (shoulder) has been ruled out for Week 4, according to head coach Chuck Pagano.

Footballguys view: We could see Luck get back on the practice field this week, but he may not be able to return to the field for another couple of weeks. At the earliest, we could see Luck out there in Week 6.

Bengals | Joe Mixon receives majority of snaps Mon Sep 25, 06:30 PM Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon received 34 offensive snaps in the team's Week 3 game. RB Jeremy Hill received 14 snaps, while RB Giovani Bernard received 13 snaps.

Footballguys view: With Bill Lazor taking over as the offensive coordinator we felt Mixon could emerge as the primary back. In that role, the rookie RB could perform like a RB2/flex for fantasy owners.

Bengals | Tyler Eifert to miss several weeks Mon Sep 25, 06:04 PM Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (back) is expected to miss several weeks because of his back injury but will not need surgery, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Eifert's back cost him a couple of games last year and it's acting up again. Tyler Kroft is the lead tight end with Eifert down for several weeks.

Eagles | Darren Sproles placed on IR Mon Sep 25, 05:47 PM Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles (knee, arm) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Monday, Sept. 25.
Footballguys view: His season is done and we're hoping his career is not done. Without Sproles, the Eagles will move forward with Wendall Smallwood in his pass-catching role.

Packers | Ty Montgomery has wrist injury Mon Sep 25, 05:21 PM Green Bay Packers RB Ty Montgomery (wrist) was a limited practice participant Monday, Sept. 25. The Packers did not actually practice; this practice participation designation is an estimation.
Footballguys view: It's a short week for the Packers as they play the Bears at Lambeau on Thursday Night Football. Keep an eye on Montgomery's practice status during this short week. We could see rookie Jamaal Williams mixed in more if Montgomery is limited or misses time because of this injury. Right now, we'd guess that Montgomery is going to play in Week 4.

Packers | Randall Cobb has limited practice Mon Sep 25, 05:15 PM Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb (chest) was limited in practice Monday, Sept. 25. The Packers did not actually practice; this practice participation designation is an estimation.
Footballguys view: Cobb missed the Week 3 game for the Packers which led to more opportunity for Geronimo Allison. It's a short week for the Packers as they play against the Bears on Thursday Night Football, and Cobb's status is up in the air.

Cardinals | Kerwynn Williams plays just one snap on MNF Tue Sep 26, 01:06 AM Arizona Cardinals RB Kerwynn Williams played only one snap in the team's Week 3 game Monday, Sept. 25, against the Dallas Cowboys, rushing once for three yards.

Cardinals | Chris Johnson stifled by Cowboys defense Tue Sep 26, 12:51 AM
Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson managed only 17 rushing yards on 12 carries in the team's Week 3 game Monday, Sept. 25, against the Dallas Cowboys. He also added one reception for four yards.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington paces Arizona backfield Tue Sep 26, 12:43 AM
Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington led the team in rushing yards with 22 on just five carries in the team's Week 3 game Monday, Sept. 25, against the Dallas Cowboys. He also added five receptions for 59 yards.

    Wednesday Update

PHI - Increased role for RB Wendell Smallwood

Source: SportsRadio 94WIP - Brandon Lee Gowton

Philadelphia Eagles RB Wendell Smallwood will have more opportunities going forward due to RB Darren Sproles (knee, arm) being on the Reserve/Injured list, according to offensive coordinator Frank Reich.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners should add Smallwood if in need of RB help. Smallwood is a good all-purpose back who can produce carrying the ball or receiving the ball out of the backfield. He had 12 carries for 71 yards against the Giants in Week 3, and Smallwood has flex appeal on a weekly basis in PPR leagues.

ARI - WR John Brown worked out Monday night

Source: 98.7 Arizona - Mike Jurecki

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown (quad) is still dealing with the quad injury but was able to get some work in on the field prior to the Week 3 game against Dallas Cowboys after not practicing at all in the week leading up to the game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Many fantasy owners have already moved on from Brown. He's trending in the right direction but he doesn't seem to recover from these injuries in a timely manner. If you play in a league with a deep bench, feel free to keep stashing Brown as a 'lottery ticket' for later in the year.

WAS - RB Rob Kelley still the lead RB

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins RB Rob Kelley (ribs), who is expected to practice on a limited basis Wednesday, Sept. 27, will remain the team's No. 1 running back when healthy, despite the emergence of Chris Thompson has a regular big-play threat.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thompson is the big-play back, but the team will continue to use Rob Kelley when healthy (or Samaje Perine) as a battering ram for the offense. Fantasy owners should consider Thompson at least as a flex play or RB2 while Kelley could have RB2 value in games that Washington can control.

KC - No plans to reduce RB Kareem Hunt's workload

Source: The Kansas City Star - Terez A. Paylor

Kansas City Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt is on pace for 299 carries and leads the league in rushing (401 yards). Head coach Andy Reid told reporters 'we're OK with how we're using him' and has no plans to scale back his touches.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We could see the rookie from Toledo getting more than 300 carries this year. He's built for that workload and he's certainly producing at a high level. The Chiefs are elated with his performance, and Hunt is a centerpiece of what they do offensively.

LAC - RB Melvin Gordon expected to be fine

    Source: ESPN.com - Eric D. Williams

Los Angeles Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (knee) is dealing with soreness in the same left knee he had microfracture surgery on during the 2016 offseason, but both he and head coach Anthony Lynn believe he is on target to play in Week 4 versus the Philadelphia Eagles.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners in deeper leagues need to stash Branden Oliver if they can. Gordon has not played up to his potential quite yet in 2017 but the role and talent is certainly there...if he can only stay healthy.

NYG - RB Orleans Darkwa expects to play

Source: The Bergen Record - Art Stapleton

New York Giants RB Orleans Darkwa (back) doesn't know if he'll practice this week, but he does expect to be able to take the field in Week 4. Darkwa will receive treatment for tightness in his tweaked back.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's cool, but fantasy owners aren't expecting much from Darkwa...or any Giants RB at this time. Darkwa and Paul Perkins are not running the ball with much authority or effectiveness. Shane Vereen isn't lighting the fantasy world on fire either. It might lead to more opportunity for rookie Wayne Gallman, but for now Darkwa is the guy that could get more work with Perkins' ineffectiveness.

PHI - Philly signs RB Kenjon Barner

    Source: CSNPhilly.com - Reuben Frank

Updating a previous report, free-agent RB Kenjon Barner (Chargers) was signed to a one-year contract by the Philadelphia Eagles Tuesday, Sept. 26. Financial terms were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Barner is back with the Eagles (spent 2014-2016 in Philadelphia) after spending the summer with the Chargers. He is familiar with the scheme and gives the team more depth after losing Darren Sproles for the year. Barner is nothing more than a no4 RB behind LeGarrette Blount, Wendell Smallwood and Corey Clement.

KC - PK Cairo Santos placed on IR

    Source: NFL

Kansas City Chiefs PK Cairo Santos (groin) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Sept. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Santos could be brought back later in the year if healthy enough to play. They'll be without Santos for at least eight weeks, putting a potential return near the fantasy playoffs. He was perfect so far this year, but the groin injury that caused him to miss three games in the preseason just wouldn't clear up. In the meantime, rookie kicker Harrison Butker gets an opportunity with the Chiefs while Santos is out.

GB - WR Randall Cobb not limited

Source: Chicago Tribune - Brad Biggs

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb (chest) participated fully in practice Tuesday, Sept. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's a good sign for Cobb's availability for the Thursday night game against the Bears. If Cobb plays, it reduces the opportunity for Geronimo Allison...a player you might've picked up on your waiver wire after his 100-yard performance in Week 3.

GB - RB Ty Montgomery full go Tuesday

Source: Chicago Tribune - Brad Biggs

Green Bay Packers RB Ty Montgomery (wrist) was a full participant in practice Tuesday, Sept. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Packers could use a bit more of rookie RB Jamaal Williams if they want to keep Montgomery fresh...or if this wrist injury bothers him. Montgomery is the lead back for the Packers with a Thursday night game against the Bears coming up. Fantasy owners should look at him as a RB2 with upside in this matchup.

ARI - RB Chris Johnson will remain starter

    Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban
Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson will continue to start in Arizona's backfield in Week 4 despite managing just 17 yards on 12 carries in Week 3.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Johnson looked rusty against the Cowboys on Monday night. He'll get another shot to prove that he can carry the load for the Cardinals even though Andre Ellington gained more yards (and played more snaps) than Johnson did in Week 3.

    Thursday Update

IND - QB Andrew Luck still about a week away

Source: CNHI Sports Indiana - George Bremer

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (shoulder) will not practice this week and is still a week way in his throwing progression, according to head coach Chuck Pagano.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This puts a potential Week 6 return in question. We thought Luck could return to the practice field this week but not just yet. A return is close, but then it will take a couple of weeks for him to be ready for a regular season game.

CAR - QB Cam Newton draws limited designation

    Source: Panthers.com - Max Henson

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) was a limited practice participant Wednesday, Sept. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Newton just doesn't look like himself. Even in a great matchup last week against the Saints, Newton was a huge disappointment for fantasy owners that relied on him. Go with other/better options until we see Newton look like his old self.

NO - WR Willie Snead returns to practice

    Source: NewOrleansSaints.com

New Orleans Saints WR Willie Snead was back on the practice field Wednesday, Sept. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Snead's back from his three-game suspension and fantasy owners are excited about his prospects in the Saints passing attack. They'd feel better if he was at home in the Superdome, and we'd feel better recommending him if we knew what his role would be in his first game back. Saints coach Sean Payton said Snead's workload would be determined by how he practices this week. Consider Snead a 'what the heck' flex in Week 4 with the potential to pay off like a WR2 once he gets back up to full speed.

SEA - RB C.J. Prosise won't play this week

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Seattle Seahawks RB C.J. Prosise (ankle) is not expected to play in Week 4, according to a source, and is considered week-to-week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Without Prosise working as the change-of-pace back it could lead to a few more touches for Chris Carson We've already seen the rookie emerge as the lead ball carrier for the Seahawks while Thomas Rawls and Eddie Lacy are doing next to nothing.

MIA - RB Jay Ajayi expected to play Week 4

Source: The Palm Beach Post - Joe Schad

Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi (knee) is likely to play Week 4 versus the New Orleans Saints in London.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ajayi missed two practices last week but was still able to play. Fantasy owners are hoping he'll do more than the 11 carries for 16 yards he had against the Jets. We've got him as a RB2 in Week 4.

HOU - WR Will Fuller 'close to playing'

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans WR Will Fuller (shoulder) practiced again Wednesday, Sept. 27, and the team is hopeful he can play in Week 4 versus the Tennessee Titans, although his availability will depend on how his shoulder holds up in practice this week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Fuller's speed will be a welcome addition to the Texans passing game. His return would cut into Bruce Ellinton's opportunity (70 snaps, four receptions, 59 yards, one touchdown in Week 3) as the Texans continue to look for weapons opposite of DeAndre Hopkins.

MIN - QB Sam Bradford a no-go Wednesday

Source: St. Paul Pioneer Press - Chris Tomasson

Minnesota Vikings QB Sam Bradford (knee) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 27, but head coach Mike Zimmer told reporters 'we're doing everything (we) can to get him ready' for Week 4 against the Detroit Lions.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners have to consider Case Keenum as a streaming option if the Vikings have to start him again on Sunday. We won't have a good idea about Bradford's ability until Friday at the earliest.

SEA - No practice for TE Jimmy Graham

    Source: Seahawks.com

Seattle Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham (ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Graham was a game-time decision last week and came through with a big game for his fantasy owners. He's a TE1 if healthy.

SEA - WR Doug Baldwin does not practice

    Source: Seahawks.com

Seattle Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin (groin) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The plan is for Baldwin to play this week per Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll. However, he should be limited during the week of practice.

OAK - WR Michael Crabtree limited

    Source: Raiders.com

Oakland Raiders WR Michael Crabtree (chest) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Crabtree is going to have his hands full going up against the "No Fly Zone" aka the Broncos secondary. Let's hope he hides his chain, so Aqib Talib doesn't snatch it again.

LAC - WR Mike Williams listed as limited

    Source: Chargers.com

Los Angeles Chargers WR Mike Williams (back) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Williams is on track to return to the field in Week 5. He was limited in practice all last week and will try to get more work in this week.

    16. LAC - RB Melvin Gordon sits out Wednesday
    Source: Chargers.com

Los Angeles Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Check back to see if Gordon can participate in practice later in the week. They are at home against an Eagles defense that allows an average of 75.0 yards per game on the ground.

BAL - Benjamin Watson sits out of practice

    Source: BaltimoreRavens.com

Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson (calf) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on this situation if you're considering Watson as a streamer. It's thought to be a minor issue, but we'll see if Watson can get in a full practice later in the week. The Ravens are at home facing a Steelers pass defense that only allows 136.7 passing yards per game on average. This is setting up to be a classic Steelers/Ravens slug fest.

GB - WR Randall Cobb will play

    Source: Packers.com

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb (chest) participated fully in practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's a short week for the Packers, but Cobb missed the game against the Bengals in Week 3. He's had plenty of time to recover and should be ready to go against the Bears on Thursday night. With Cobb back on the field, we should see fewer opportunities for Geronimo Allison.

DET - WR Kenny Golladay limited in practice

    Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman

Detroit Lions WR Kenny Golladay (hamstring) was able to practice on a limited basis Wednesday, Sept. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Golladay had a big game in Week 1 with four catches for 69 yards and two touchdowns. Since then, he's only caught three passes for 33 yards and zero touchdowns. In Week 4 against the Vikings, Golladay might be a sneaky flex play because he should be matched up against Trae Waynes.

GB - RB Ty Montgomery good to go

    Source: Packers.com

Green Bay Packers RB Ty Montgomery (wrist) participated fully in practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Montgomery is the lead back for the Packers and was on the field for 93 percent of the team's snaps against the Bengals in Week 3. His struggles on the ground this year can be attributed to the injuries up front on the offensive line, but Montgomery can come through for fantasy owners because of his ability as a receiver. It's a short week for the Packers as they play the Bears on Thursday night and it could be tough sledding on the ground. Overall, we still project Montgomery as a RB1 for fantasy owners in Week 4.

PIT - TE Jesse James has limited practice

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Jesse James (shoulder) was limited in practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Ravens were gashed by Marcedes Lewis in Week 3, so fantasy owners are hopeful James can put up big numbers against Baltimore in Week 4. James has been banged up and has struggled to stay on the field. We'd only consider him as a streaming option...and there's likely better options out there for your fantasy team this week.

CIN - RB Giovani Bernard limited in practice

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Paul Dehner Jr.

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard (thigh) was listed as a limited participant for practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

After averaging around 30 snaps per game over the first two contests in 2017, Bernard saw his snap count fall to just 13 in Week 3 against the Packers. That's a result of OC Bill Lazor taking over. Lazor is using Joe Mixon more, and that's a trend that should continue going forward. Bernard may only be in line for around five touches against a Browns defense that has played RBs tough (only 87.7 rushing yards allowed per game). We can only recommend Bernard as a desperation 'what the heck' flex with this limited role.

PIT - No practice for WR Martavis Bryant

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant (illness) was held out of practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bryant has pretty much disappointed fantasy owners this year when the Steelers are on the road. They travel to Baltimore to play the Ravens in Week 4, so that makes Bryant a boom/bust flex play or as we like to call it - a 'what the heck' flex.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker limited at practice

    Source: MiamiDolphins.com

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (ankle) was listed as a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Parker had a good fantasy day last week, but most of his numbers came in garbage time. Against the Saints this week in London, Parker could perform like a WR2 with upside.

MIA - WR Jarvis Landry does not practice

    Source: MiamiDolphins.com

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry (knee) was not on the practice field Wednesday, Sept. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If healthy, Landry could have a big day against a bad Saints defense. The Saints pass defense gives up an average of 311.0 passing yards per game, a mark that ranks 30th in the NFL. Check back on Friday to see if Landry gets in a full practice.

NYG - RB Shane Vereen sidelined due to calf

    Source: Giants.com

New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (calf) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Vereen was barely used against the Eagles in a game that was the Giants best offensive performance of the year. He's only on the fringe of rosterable in redraft PPR leagues.

NYG - RB Orleans Darkwa does not practice

    Source: Giants.com

New York Giants RB Orleans Darkwa (back) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Giants need someone to emerge in the backfield as Paul Perkins has struggled in 2017. Darwa could be that guy...but he needs to be healthy in order to perform at his best. He's fought through plenty of injuries as a pro, and this back injury isn't thought to be serious. The team is likely just giving him a bit of rest in the middle of the week.

NE - RB Rex Burkhead still not at practice

Source: Boston Herald - Jeff Howe

New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead (ribs) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If Burkhead can't play, it would open the door for Dion Lewis to get more work. Mike Gillislee remains as the lead back on early downs with James White getting plenty of snaps as the pass catcher out of the backfield.

CAR - WR Kelvin Benjamin does little Wednesday

Source: The Charlotte Observer - Joseph Person

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) was limited to stretching and riding a stationary bike during practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Benjamin is considered day-to-day with this injury. An MRI earlier this week revealed no structural damage to Benjamin's left knee, but that doesn't mean he'll be able to play against the Patriots. Benjamin's Week 4 status is unclear.

    Friday Update

LAC - RB Melvin Gordon limited Thursday

    Source: Chargers.com

Los Angeles Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (knee) was limited during practice Thursday, Sept. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gordon didn't get through the game last week for the Chargers, but he's a RB1 for fantasy owners anytime he plays. Even in a tough match against the Eagles, Gordon could get 75-100 all-purpose yards with maybe a touchdown as well. That's RB2 level in Week 4.

IND - QB Andrew Luck doesn't practice

    Source: Colts.com

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (shoulder) remained sidelined Thursday, Sept. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Luck isn't practicing this week. He should be back on the practice field next week, but targeting a Week 6 return might be a little premature. The Colts roll forward with Jacoby Brissett as their starter.

MIN - QB Sam Bradford to miss another game

    Source: Vikings.com

Minnesota Vikings QB Sam Bradford (knee) has been ruled out of the team's Week 4 game, according to head coach Mike Zimmer. QB Case Keenum will receive his third straight start.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With Keenum's big performance in Week 3, he becomes a streaming option for fantasy owners. You can also start him against the Lions in 2QB leagues.

MIA - RB Jay Ajayi full go Thursday

Source: CBS Miami - David Dwork

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi (knee) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ajayi is just going to get rest all season for that knee, which has been a concern since college. That said, a greater concern is his boom or bust nature over the course of last season. We expect more boom than bust this week against a vulnerable Saints defense and would field him as a solid RB2.

ARI - WR John Brown remains limited

    Source: AZCardinals.com

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown (quadriceps) was limited during practice Thursday, Sept. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We just want to see Brown back on the field and producing. Fantasy owners shouldn't trust Brown when he does come back until he shows that he can play up to his potential again.

SF - RB Carlos Hyde limited again Thursday

    Source: NFLMedia.com

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde (hip) was limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Sept. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Make sure Hyde gets in a full practice on Friday. In this matchup against the Cardinals, Hyde can be trusted as a RB2 with RB1 upside.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed listed as limited

    Source: Redskins.com

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (rib, chest) was limited during practice Thursday, Sept. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Washington plays on Monday night against the Chiefs, so have a backup plan (Vernon Davis) ready in case you're planning on starting Reed. It seems like he could play, but his availability in Week 4 is certainly no guarantee.

WAS - RB Rob Kelley limited Thursday

    Source: Redskins.com

Washington Redskins RB Rob Kelley (rib) was limited during practice Thursday, Sept. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kelley is the lead dog for Washington...when healthy. Rookie Samaje Perine is not impressing with Kelley missing time, and we could see Kelley back in action this week. Chris Thompson will still remain a big-play weapon in the backfield, but it looks like Kelley could be the two-down thumper on Monday night against the Chiefs.

CIN - RB Giovani Bernard remains limited

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard (thigh) was limited during practice Thursday, Sept. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With Joe Mixon and Jeremy Hill (mostly Mixon though), there's very little left for Bernard. He's not worth a start in any format.

CLE - WR Kenny Britt listed as limited

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot
Cleveland Browns WR Kenny Britt (knee) was limited during practice Thursday, Sept. 28.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Britt hasn't done much this year and we don't expect a change. If you need him, expect WR6 numbers, which is to say few targets and fewer yards.

CLE - RB Duke Johnson limited Thursday

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson (shoulder) was limited during practice Thursday, Sept. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If Johnson has value, it's catching the ball. But the offense itself is shaky, even if the Bengals don't exactly present a tough matchup, and Johnson won't get the carries Isaiah Crowell. Roll Johnson out as a hail mary flex, but keep your expectations minimal.

CAR - Full practice for WR Kelvin Benjamin

    Source: Panthers.com

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) fully participated in practice Thursday, Sept. 28.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Cam Newton's struggles continue to weigh everyone else down, and Benjamin's injury doesn't help. New England is vulnerable though, and there is work with Greg Olson out. Benjamin is a decent WR3, assuming tomorrow is another full participation practice, with a little upside.

    18. JAX - Full practice for QB Blake Bortles
    Source: Jaguars.com
Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles (wrist) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jets secondary actually looked, dare we say, competent last week and Bortles himself has not looked that way most of the year. Further, his receiving corps is still banged up. Even against the Jets we would not count on him at all.

NYG - RB Shane Vereen does not practice

    Source: Giants.com

New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (calf) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 28.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Vereen really hasn't done much in the backfield, but neither has anyone else. Orleans Darkwa looks like the leader of this rather uninspiring pack, and we wouldn't look for anything more than RB4 numbers against Tampa Bay. This offensive line is that bad. So ultimately, Vereen isn't missing much and neither is your lineup by not having access to him.

    22. BUF - RB LeSean McCoy remains full go
    Source: BuffaloBills.com
Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy (wrist) participated fully in practice Thursday, Sept. 28.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
McCoy is doing virtually nothing on the ground but he's been fantastic as a receiver. Against a Falcons team which has been so-so against the run, he has a chance to be good in both areas, but we're still a bit cautious and consider him a very good RB2 with the ceiling for more.

NE - RB Rex Burkhead out of practice

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss
New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead (ribs) was out of practice Thursday, Sept. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mike Gillislee is likely to get the most carries here, but even if he does it may not amount to a ton. The Patriots spread carries around and James White will get a significant amount as well. In other words, Burkhead, whether or not he is playing, has little value.

NO - WR Willie Snead does individual work

Source: The Times-Picayune - Josh Katzenstein

New Orleans Saints WR Willie Snead practiced on an adjacent field from the team portions Thursday, Sept. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Just back from suspension, Snead finds himself not only behind Michael Thomas but guys like Ted Ginn, Brandon Coleman, and Alvin Kamara. If you have to play him, be cautious with expectations and use him as no more than a flex.

NYG - Odell Beckham fastest to 300 career catches

    Source: ESPN Stats and Information

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. became the fastest player in NFL history to accumulate 300 career catches Sunday, Sept. 24, needing just 45 games to do so.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lots of firsts for Beckham on Sunday, as his particular touchdown celebration was also something we've never seen before. Beckham clearly has all the talent in the world, which is what his Fantasy GMs should focus on. His obvious immaturity might come into play in dynasty--because who knows when or if it blows up in his face--but in redraft leagues you play him as a top receiver every week because he has those skills and the Giants can't do anything without him.

KC - RB Kareem Hunt already in record books

    Source: ESPN Stats and Information

Kansas City Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt is the first player in NFL history to have a touchdown of 50 or more yards of any kind in each of his first three career games.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hunt has what the kids call "mad skills." Or at least that's what we think--frankly we're too old for all that hep cat talk. What is evident to even our old person eyes is that Hunt is a fantastic talent and red hot. You have to start him in fantasy against Washington this week, and we'd say probably every week moving forward.

Unreal to me how much fox gets bashed. I've always thought he was a very good coach, i been on bears both home games and expect ill be on them a lot all season cause his game plans lend themselves to covering spreads. Obviously not looking to play them against explosive offenses on the road but there be lot of great spots where they catching lots of points.

Far as glennon his turnovers troublesome but everyone screaming for the rookie seem to be forgetting bears were weak at wr before losing several guys for the season already!!

Yeah I would argue that this Bears team has exceeded expectations in a sense. No one thought this was a playoff team. Develop young talent, build a foundation, play defense, hammer the run. I like what I see.

Could very easily be 2-2 beating steelers and inches away from beating the falcons.

Yet some folks calling for Fox's head? I'd love to hear the names of coaches who would be doing a better job with this group? A team entering the season with top 2 WRs being merideth and white and both already out for the season!! Fox a excellent coach who gets ripped cause his teams are always the lunch pale hard nosed type instead of flashy.

You're talking about the Texans, right? Bears have gone 6-10 then 3-13 under Fox. He was 2-14 final year at Carolina, Denver wins Super Bowl AFTER he leaves, and get crushed by a division rival riddled with injuries. Kansas City has had as tough or tougher schedule. Even New Orleans, Philly, Giants, and Tennessee have as tough a schedule, if we're already talking about that sort of thing after just a few weeks.

    Saturday Update

DET - WR Kenny Golladay questionable for Week 4

    Source: DetroitLions.com

Detroit Lions WR Kenny Golladay (hamstring) did not practice Friday, Sept. 29, and is listed as questionable for the Week 4 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We never like to see a player miss Friday practice. Especially a younger guy like Golliday. Watch this up to game time.

MIA - RB Jay Ajayi listed as questionable

Source: The Miami Herald - Adam H. Beasley

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi (knee) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 29, but is listed as questionable for Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ajayi is still an RB2 start this week on volume alone, but after Week 3 and the missed practices, we are getting more worried about Ajayi producing like the RB1 he was drafted to be. If he doesn't run strong against the Saints, it's time to lower expectations for the rest of the season.

OAK - WR Michael Crabtree misses practice

    Source: NFL

Oakland Raiders WR Michael Crabtree (chest) did not participate in practice Friday, Sept. 29, and is listed as questionable for Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Crabtree's status is trending in the wrong direction for Sunday. He already had a very tough matchup against the Denver Broncos secondary and is more likely to be on your bench.

SEA - WR Doug Baldwin to be game-time decision

    Source: ESPN.com - Brady Henderson

Seattle Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin (groin) is expected to be a game-time decision in Week 4 against the Indianapolis Colts, according to head coach Pete Carroll.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
You need to have Paul Richardson, Tyler Lockett, Donte Moncrief, Jamison Crowder, Terrelle Pryor, Josh Docston, Chris Conley, or Josh Doctson to feel good about putting Baldwin in your lineup this week since we won't have clarity on his status until partway through the late games. Rob Kelley or Frank Gore could help if you can slot Baldwin as a flex.

GB - RB Ty Montgomery day-to-day

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Green Bay Packers RB Ty Montgomery's (rib) rib injury is not as serious as initially believed, and he is considered day-to-day, according to a source. He has a chance to play in the team's Week 5 game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Aaron Jones waiver wire value is on a yo-yo. Montgomery may still have a smaller role or miss the game and Jones looked better than Jamaal Williams, so it's not a waste if you were able to pick him up in leagues with liberal waiver wire rules.

NO - WR Willie Snead questionable for Week 4

Source: The Miami Herald - Adam H. Beasley

New Orleans Saints WR Willie Snead (hamstring) was limited during practice and is listed as questionable for Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Snead was already not assured of his full role in his first game back from suspension, so this injury status makes it even easier to bench him for his first game back, although he should be claimed off of the waiver wire if he wasn't drafted.

WAS - RB Samaje Perine a full go

    Source: NFL

Washington Redskins RB Samaje Perine (hand) practiced in full Friday, Sept. 29, with a bruised hand.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Perine could get the start against the Chiefs on Monday night if Rob Kelley can't go, although Kelley's practice participation indicates that he might be able to go this week. Check back tomorrow after the team's third practice of the week.

SF - RB Carlos Hyde questionable for Week 4

    Source: 49ers.com

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde (hip) was limited during practice Friday, Sept. 29, and is listed as questionable for Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hyde is a game-time decision. With an afternoon start, you'll need to have backup Matt Breida or another afternoon/night game injury hedge for Hyde.

ARI - WR John Brown listed as questionable

    Source: AZCardinals.com

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown (quadriceps) was limited during practice Friday, Sept. 29, and is listed as questionable for Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Brown isn't a strong play in Week 4, but his presence helps Carson Palmer's outlook. It also dampens the sleeper appeal of Jaron Brown and JJ Nelson.

HOU - WR Will Fuller on track to play

    Source: HoustonTexans.com

Houston Texans WR Will Fuller (shoulder) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 29, and is not on the injury report for Week 4.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Fuller's return should further invigorate the Texans passing offense that came alive against the Patriots last week. He's worth a stash in deeper leagues to see if he clicks with Deshaun Watson.

LAC - RB Melvin Gordon listed as questionable

    Source: Chargers.com

Los Angeles Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (knee) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 29, but is listed as questionable for Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gordon is expected to play and he's solid RB1 start against the Eagles who will likely be without stud DT Fletcher Cox.

BAL - Benjamin Watson listed as questionable

    Source: BaltimoreRavens.com

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson (calf) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 29, and is listed as questionable for Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Check back on Sunday morning if you plan on using Watson against the Steelers.

LAR - WR Sammy Watkins expected to play Week 4

    Source: ESPN.com - Alden Gonzalez

Los Angeles Rams WR Sammy Watkins (concussion) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 28, and is expected to officially clear the concussion protocol Friday, Sept. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watkins is worth a WR2 start against a poor Cowboys secondary.

GB - RB Jamaal Williams diagnosed with knee sprain

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams (knee) is expected to 'miss time' after reportedly suffering a knee sprain in a Week 4 victory over the Chicago Bears, according to a source. Williams has yet to receive the results of an MRI to confirm the diagnosis.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This likely cements Aaron Jones as the Week 5 starter and possibly beyond.

PIT - WR JuJu Smith-Schuster moving up depth chart

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster has reportedly passed Eli Rogers on the depth chart and taken ownership of slot receiver duties, ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Smith-Schuster could have fantasy relevance this year if Martavis Bryant or Antonio Brown (perish the thought) miss any time.

NO - RB Adrian Peterson back at practice

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Triplett

New Orleans Saints RB Adrian Peterson (knee) returned to practice Friday, Sept. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This lowers Mark Ingram's ceiling for Week 4, but if the Saints can control the game vs. the Dolphins, Ingram should get the second half carries.

This whole post is stupid, but the Chiefs having a tougher schedule so far? Get real. Home for Philly, at New England, and @Chargers (which is basically a neutral site) is more difficult than Packers, Falcons, and Steelers? lol ok

    Sunday Morning Injury Updates

    QUARTERBACK

Cam Newton | Shoulder | Not Listed | Expected to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - Limited | Thursday - Limited | Friday - Limited

Newton has struggled with accuracy downfield and been less mobile in the pocket than usual through the first month of the season. This week, Ron Rivera said Newton did more in practice than he did last week and felt he threw very well. This is also the first week this season the Panthers haven't listed Newton questionable. Whether the positive changes in practice and game status translates to a better game this week remains to be seen.

Others of note: Kirk Cousins, Ben Roethlisberger, Josh McCown
(ribs), and Blake Bortles (wrist) have practiced, are not listed on the game status report, and are expected to play without limitation. Andrew Luck (shoulder) and Sam Bradford (knee) have been declared out. I'll update return to play expectations on all inactive players in Monday's column.

    RUNNING BACK

MELVIN GORDON | KNEE | QUESTIONABLE | Expected to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - DNP | Thurs - Limited | Fri - Full

The Chargers have described Gordon's knee injury as a bone bruise. He was able to play 33 snaps and run the ball 17 times last week, though it should be noted 15 of those carries came in the first half. Gordon's performance last week rules out a bruise to the weight-bearing, cartilage-covered surfaces of the joint. As we've seen with Sam Bradford, those bruises are difficult for a quarterback to practice with much less expect a running back to play through. It's also unlikely this injury has any direct relation to his previous microfracture surgery, where an orthopedist focused on missing surface cartilage around the joint.

It's reassuring to see Gordon return to a full Friday practice -- though the Chargers' Friday workout was little more than a glorified walk-through in shorts and shells. Anthony Lynn told reporters Gordon was feeling better, suggesting the team will be comfortable with Gordon running the ball this week. The Chargers have Gordon listed questionable for a reason. This is a painful injury to play through and Gordon's running back duties will put him at risk of aggravation. Gordon struggled to recover after halftime last week. While he may enter this week's game healthier than last week, any of these factors could conspire to limit Gordon's workload.

Jay Ajayi | Knee | Questionable | Expected to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - DNP | Thurs - Full | Fri - Full

The Dolphins listed Ajayi questionable but he will play. It's not hard to tell a reassuring story on Ajayi this week. After minimal practice rest leading into Week 2, Ajayi had 30 touches and a strong performance. The following week, Ajayi barely practiced and struggled. Ajayi again returned to a full practice by midweek this week, which suggests he's healthier this week than last.

Of course, there's another story that could fit the facts thus far. You might argue Week 2 was the fluke week and wonder whether Ajayi can handle an extensive workload in future weeks. It's fair to wonder whether the long flight to England could affect Ajayi's preparation and health. I'm not sure I buy those concerns, however, as the cross-Atlantic flight isn't much longer than a West Coast trip from Miami.

In the end, I believe the truth is somewhere in the middle. I'm reassured by the full Thursday and Friday practice. While we don't know the precise condition of his knee, I think it's reasonable to expect Ajayi is healthier this week than last. But it's also clear the Dolphins plan to be more careful. Offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen told reporters this week they hoped to rest Ajayi more often on passing downs. Ajayi had just 35 targets and 27 receptions last season. Fewer passing down opportunities may not significantly affect his statistical bottom line. But it underlines the team's concern. I think Ajayi will be able to handle 20+ rushes this week if the game script allows. How he performs this week will help inform expectations for future weeks.

    Carlos Hyde
    | Hip | Questionable | Game-time Decision

Practice Participation: Wed - Limited | Thurs - Limited | Fri - Limited

Hyde is officially listed with a hip injury on the game status report. But this isn't a hip pointer (contusion) or a hip flexor strain or a chronic issue around the joint. Hyde has a strain of the oblique muscle, which is a large muscle between the midline of the abdomen and the front and top of the pelvic bone. While it's not a soft tissue injury of the leg, it's still painful and limiting for a running back. Though he eventually found a way to run effectively, you could see Hyde struggle to return early in last Thursday's night game.

Kyle Shanahan told reporters Hyde was "definitely still hurting" after a week of consecutive limited practices and labeled his running back a game-time decision. I think Hyde will play this week, though he will be at continual risk of aggravation should he twist while fighting for extra yardage or be pulled down at an awkward angle. If that should happen early, it's possible Hyde will see a significantly reduced workload. If he avoids aggravation, he could see over 15 touches.

    *Rob Kelley | Rib | Questionable | Game-time Decision

Practice Participation: Thurs - Limited | Fri - Limited | Sat - Limited

Kelley has continued to practice and video clips of him moving comfortably in individual drills look reassuring. But the primary issue with Kelley will be pain tolerance when hit by a tackler or when he's taken to the ground. That's not something Washington can -- or would want to -- test in practice. And it's clear the team has concern for aggravation of the rib cartilage injury and a longer-term absence since they chose to hold Kelley out of last week's game after a similar practice line.

Tentatively expected to play, I'm still listing Kelley as a game-time decision. Washington's bye follows this game. If the team has any concern Kelley hasn't healed enough to take a full workload, they could decide to keep him down this week -- or put him on the active roster and use him only if absolutely needed -- knowing they have two additional weeks of recovery time to follow. This is a tough call given the Monday night start. And it's a tough road matchup in Kansas City. If you see Kelley as your best option when healthy, make sure you have a hedge available just in case.

    C.J. Prosise
    | Ankle | Doubtful | Likely Inactive

Practice Participation: Wed - DNP | Thurs - DNP | Fri - DNP

Prosise did some light running on Friday but was still listed as a DNP. Seattle generally rests critical members of their team early in the week then returns them to practice on Friday. Those players are generally not listed on the injury report. Prosise hasn't practiced, has barely run, is listed doubtful, and there were serious concerns about his availability earlier this week. It'll be very surprising if he's on the active game day roster this week.

    Shane Vereen
    | Calf | Not Listed | Likely to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - DNP | Thurs - DNP | Fri - Limited

    Orleans Darkwa | Back | Questionable | Game-time Decision

Practice Participation: Wed - DNP | Thurs - DNP | Fri - Limited

Vereen practiced very little this week but is not listed on the Giants' game status report. He's likely to play but may be at risk of aggravation. The Giants do not practice on Friday and estimate their players' availability. Darkwa was also projected to have done some practice work on Friday but is considered a game-time decision. Reports from beat writers this week suggest he's on the doubtful side of questionable.

Others of note: Le'Veon Bell, LeSean McCoy
(wrist), Adrian Peterson (knee), Isaiah Crowell (shoulder), Jonathan Stewart, Frank Gore, Jamaal Charles, Duke Johnson (shoulder), Gio Bernard (thigh), Samaje Perine (hand), and Jalen Richard (calf) have practiced, are not listed on the game status report, and are expected to play without limitation. Matt Forte (toe), Marlon Mack (shoulder), and Dwayne Washington (quad) have been declared out. I'll update return to play expectations on all inactive players in Monday's column.

    WIDE RECEIVER

Julio Jones | Back | Not Listed | Expected to Play

    Practice Participation: Wed - Limited |Thurs - Limited | Fri - Limited

While it would have been most reassuring to see Jones manage a full Friday practice, he's not listed on the injury report. Jones has been positive all week, telling reporters his back feels great. His limited practice participation is very likely precautionary and he can be expected to see his usual workload.

    Doug Baldwin
    | Groin | Questionable | Game-time Decision

Practice Participation: Wed - DNP | Thurs - DNP | Fri - Limited

The Seahawks have been refreshingly straightforward when discussing player injuries this year. Unfortunately, while there's still some optimism on Baldwin's availability this week, it's clear both Baldwin and the team aren't sure whether he'll be able to play. And Pete Carroll's comments -- "We've got to make sure all the way up to game time that he’s feeling good enough to carry out a full game plan and all that." -- suggest Seattle has no intention of using Baldwin as a decoy.

Baldwin has consistently said he'd play all week and reports on his Monday MRI were reassuring. But all indications are Baldwin remains a game-time decision and will need to show he's capable of running at least some of the route tree effectively to be active this week. The Sunday night game makes for a tough fantasy decision. Hopefully, we get early morning clarity from Adam Schefter or Ian Rapoport.

    Michael Crabtree
    | Chest | Doubtful | Likely Inactive

Practice Participation: Wed - Limited | Thurs - Limited | Fri - DNP

Crabtree's status seemed to be trending positively midweek. But a somewhat surprising Friday DNP, the refusal of Jack Del Rio to address Crabtree's status, and the late Saturday evening downgrade to doubtful all strongly argue Crabtree will be inactive this week. Look for other options.

    Willie Snead
    | Hamstring | Questionable | Limited if Active

Practice Participation: Wed - Not Listed | Thurs - Not Listed | Fri - Limited

It's been an odd week for Snead in his first week of practice coming off suspension. Sean Payton suggested the team would ease Snead back into the offensive game flow, saying "We'll sort through what we want to do in regards to this game and moving forward." Then Snead was listed on the Friday practice participation report as limited with a hamstring injury and is questionable on the game status report.

It's very possible Snead would have been listed on the injury report earlier in the week but the team had a roster exemption and didn't have to include him. There are also hints Snead may have been dealing with hamstring troubles late in the preseason. If accurate, it puts Payton's comments about Snead's usage into clearer context. And he should be considered a game-time decision with limited workload if active at best this week.

    *Jamison Crowder | Hamstring | Questionable | Game-time Decision

Practice Participation: Thurs - Not Listed | Fri - Limited | Sat - Limited

Add Crowder to the triumvirate of Washington offensive players whose status is unclear heading into Monday night. Crowder was added to the practice report as limited on Friday and Jay Gruden said his status was "still up in the air" after a limited Saturday workout. Crowder's previous concern in 2017 was a hip injury, which he played through after downplaying the injury in a Friday media session. That's not been the case with this injury. Look for Sunday morning updates and have a hedge available if you plan to use Crowder Monday night.

    John Brown
    | Quad | Questionable | Active but Limited

Practice Participation: Wed - Limited | Thurs - Limited | Fri - Limited

J.J. Nelson | Hamstring | Questionable | Active but Limited

Practice Participation: Wed - Limited | Thurs - Limited | Fri - Limited

We know what to expect from Brown this week. Bruce Arians told reporters Brown would be active but said, "He can't go out there and play 70 plays or he'll be right back where he was." Look for Brown to play 20-30 snaps with limited usage and hope he feels good when he wakes up Monday morning.

Nelson's status "is just like last week" according to Arians. Still fighting through a limiting hamstring injury, Nelson managed 52 of 75 snaps last week but only three targets. Expect a similar workload this week unless Brown is feeling more comfortable than expected. Should that happen, Brown and Nelson could both see fewer than 40 snaps.

    Will Fuller
    | Clavicle | Not Listed | Expected to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - Full | Thurs - Full | Fri - Full

Fuller has fully practiced and should be in good cardiovascular condition. Cleared for contact, Bill O'Brien has suggested Fuller will assume his previous role in the offense.

    Kenny Golladay
    | Hamstring | Questionable | Unlikely to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - Limited | Thurs - DNP | Fri - DNP

Golladay's practice line has the look of a player who tested a soft tissue injury early in the week and recognized he would not be able to play. The Lions haven't ruled him out but it's unlikely he'll be active this week. Should Golladay make the gameday roster, it's unlikely he'll see a full complement of snaps.

    Others of note: Sammy Watkins
(concussion), Amari Cooper (knee), Kelvin Benjamin (knee), Martavis Bryant (illness), DeAndre Hopkins (knee), Danny Amendola (knee), Robby Anderson (ankle) have practiced, are not listed on the game status report, and are expected to play without limitation. Corey Davis (hamstring), Curtis Samuel (back), John Ross (knee), and Mike Williams (back) have been declared out. I'll update return to play expectations on all inactive players in Monday's column.

    TIGHT END

    *Jordan Reed | Rib / Sternum | Questionable | Game-time Decision

Practice Participation: Thurs - Limited | Fri - Limited | Sat - Limited
Like Rob Kelley, there are multiple video reports showing Reed moving comfortably and fluidly in individual drills. Like Kelley, Reed has yet to stress his injury with contact while blocking or being tackled. Like Kelley, Reed is more confident about his gameday status than last week, telling reporters he would play Monday night. Like Kelley, the ultimate decision will be in the hands of the Washington medical staff, with a bye week looming in Week 5 and the potential for an additional two weeks of healing time.

I think it's reasonable to assume Reed will be active Monday and see close to his usual workload. He'll be at high risk of aggravation, however, and those who plan to use him in fantasy lineups should watch for Sunday news.

    Benjamin Watson | Calf | Questionable | Game-time Decision

Practice Participation: Wed - DNP | Thurs - DNP | Fri - DNP

The official Friday practice participation report lists Watson as a DNP. But ESPN's Jamison Hensley saw Watson run routes and reported he "looked fine." It's an odd juxtaposition. Thankfully, the game is an early afternoon start. If Watson is active, Hensley note is very reassuring.

    Others of note
: Jimmy Graham (ankle), Delanie Walker (hamstring), Jack Doyle (foot), Jesse James (shoulder), and Jermaine Gresham (ribs) have practiced, are not listed on the game status report, and are expected to play without limitation. Tyler Eifert (back) and Maxx Williams (ankle) have been declared out. I'll update return to play expectations on all inactive players in Monday's column.

    DEFENSIVE PLAYER NOTES

    EDGE:

Olivier Vernon will be limited if he's active. He was unable to practice much and the Giants may choose to use him only in high-leverage pass-rushing spots.

Dee Ford (back) has been declared out this week. Shaq Lawson looks unlikely to play through a midweek groin injury. The Browns listed Myles Garrett questionable but he will not play.
    DEFENSIVE LINE:

Stephon Tuitt was rumored to return in a rotational role last week but didn't. He's not listed on this week's game status report after fully practicing and will play this week.
Fletcher Cox was declared out after last week's calf injury. Expect a multiple-week absence.
Jurrell Casey and Danny Shelton are considered game-time decisions. I think Casey is closer to playing than Shelton.
    LINEBACKER:
Sean Lee managed only limited work on a rehab field this week. The Cowboys say he's a game-time decision and aren't sure which way he's trending. While they'll likely give him every chance to play, he looks to be well on the doubtful side of questionable.
Jarrad Davis and B.J. Goodson both look likely to return to every-down roles this week.
Jamie Collins has yet to practice after a Week 2 concussion and is out.

Mason Foster is listed questionable again this week and should be considered a game-time decision on Monday night.
    DEFENSIVE BACK:
The news is mostly good across the league in the secondary. Tavon Wilson, Vontae Davis, Sterling Moore, Marshon Lattimore, Rodney McLeod, and Brent Grimes are expected back. T.J. Ward is doubtful and likely inactive. Sean Davis feels more doubtful than questionable.

    OFFENSIVE LINE NOTES

    Sunday Update

OAK - WR Crabtree downgraded to Doubtful

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports: "Raiders WR Michael Crabtree (chest) has been downgraded to doubtful for tomorrow's game vs. Broncos."

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll know for certain Sunday but this looks like Crabtree will miss the game.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed confident about status

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (rib, sternum) said he believes he will be able to play in Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Washington coach Jay Gruden said Reed's availability will be determined by his pain tolerance. Fantasy owners can start Reed on Monday night against the Chiefs, but make sure to have a backup option (Vernon Davis) ready if Reed is a late scratch.

WAS - RB Rob Kelley optimistic about Week 4

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins RB Rob Kelley (rib) said he is optimistic about his chance to play in Week 4. Head coach Jay Gruden said Kelley's availability will be determined by his pain tolerance.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rib injuries are always about dealing with pain. It can hurt to move ever so slightly...and even to breathe with a ribs injury. Kelley is on track to play on Monday night against the Chiefs, and he'll be the lead dog for the Washington backfield. However, he's still going to lose touches to big-play weapon Chris Thompson.

WAS - RB Samaje Perine not on injury report

    Source: Redskins.com
Washington Redskins RB Samaje Perine (hand) fully participated in practice Saturday, Sept. 30, and is not on the injury report for Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Perine has gotten an opportunity with Rob Kelley (ribs) banged up, but the rookie has not done much to impress. It looks like Kelley could return this week, relegating Perine to backup duties. Chris Thompson remains as the big-play option out of the backfield.

WAS - WR Jamison Crowder listed as questionable

    Source: Redskins.com

Washington Redskins WR Jamison Crowder (hamstring) was limited during practice Saturday, Sept. 30, and is listed as questionable for Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Matched up against slot corner Phillip Gaines, Crowder could snare five or more catches on Monday night. Consider him more of a WR3/flex play in PPR leagues in Week 4.

DEN - RB Devontae Booker's status unclear

    Source: DenverBroncos.com - Andrew Mason

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker's (wrist) status for the Week 4 game against the Oakland Raiders will be determined Sunday, Oct. 1, according to head coach Vance Joseph.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Booker has been practicing for about three weeks, but he has yet to make his season debut. He missed all of training camp and the preseason due to this injury, and when he returns Booker could get a series or two in order to spell starter C.J. Anderson.

SF - RB Carlos Hyde a game-time decision

    Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde (hip) will be a game-time decision against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4, head coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday, Sept. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Matt Breida starts for the 49ers if Hyde is a late scratch. The 49ers play an afternoon game against the Cardinals in Week 4, so make sure you monitor Hyde's status leading up to game time.

CAR - WR Kelvin Benjamin ready to roll

    Source: Panthers.com - Bill Voth

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) was a full participant in practice Friday, Sept. 29, and is not listed on the Week 4 injury report.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Benjamin should be in for a heavy set of targets against the Patriots in Week 4. He's been disappointing this year to be sure, but the Patriots pass defense is weak (32nd in the league, allowing an average of 330.2 passing yards per game) and this could lead to a breakout performance for Benjamin.

NYJ - RB Matt Forte won't play

    Source: NewYorkJets.com

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (knee, toe) did not practice Friday, Sept. 29, and has been ruled out for Week 4 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bilal Powell will be the lead back for the Jets as per usual, but behind him we'll see Eli McGuire and Travaris Cadet. Against the Jaguars, Powell is a low-end RB2 or flex play.

    16. SEA - TE Jimmy Graham not on injury report

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta
Seattle Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 29, and is not on the injury report for Week 4.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Graham had two bad weeks to begin the season, but he came through with a 7-catch, 72-yard game against the Titans in Week 3. Against the Colts in Week 4, Graham could pay off like a TE1 once again.

    Monday Update

MIN - RB Dalvin Cook feared to have torn ACL

Source: SiriusXM NFL Radio - Adam Caplan

Updating a previous reports, the Minnesota Vikings fear RB Dalvin Cook (knee) might have suffered a torn left anterior cruciate ligament in the Week 4 game against the Detroit Lions. Head coach Mike Zimmer said Cook will have an MRI on Monday, Oct. 2.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jerick McKinnon also suffered an ankle injury in this one. Latavius Murray is the clear pickup, but he is only an RB2 at best, even in a lead back role. He does have a good outlook next week against the Bears.

ATL - WR Julio Jones injures hip

    Source: AtlantaFalcons.com - Kelsey Conway

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (hip) suffered a hip injury in Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones has piled up a lot of nicks and bumps this year. At least next week is the bye. Hopefully he can get healthier with some rest.

CAR - RB Christian McCaffrey largely in background in Week 4

    Source: The Associated Press

Carolina Panthers WR Christian McCaffrey caught four passes for 33 yards and rushed six times for 16 yards Sunday, Oct. 1, in a 33-30 win over the New England Patriots.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCaffrey wasn't as big a part of the game plan as the Panthers led for a good part of the second half. He is more of a flex when the team is leading/favored and RB2 with RB1 upside in the passing game when they play from behind. Next week, the team travels to Detroit in a matchup of surging 3-1 teams.

MIN - RB Latavius Murray totals nine touches

    Source: The Associated Press

Minnesota Vikings RB Latavius Murray rushed seven times for 21 yards in Week 4 against the Detroit Lions while adding two receptions for eight yards.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Murray didn't look impressive, but he is set up to be the team's lead back for the remainder of the season after Dalvin Cook's likely ACL tear. He'll be a solid RB2 at Chicago next week.

DET - RB Ameer Abdullah just short of 100 yards

    Source: The Associated Press

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah rushed 20 times for 94 yards and a touchdown in the Week 4 game against the Minnesota Vikings and he added three receptions for 15 yards on four targets.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Abdullah was on his way to the first 100-yard rushing game for the Lions in years before leaving with an injury. The team said he was cleared to return before the end of the game, but he didn't, so we'll have to watch practice reports heading into the matchup with Carolina next week.

NYJ - RB Elijah McGuire involved in run, pass game

    Source: NFL.com

New York Jets RB Elijah McGuire rushed for 93 yards and one touchdown on 10 carries against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 4. He also caught two passes for 38 yards during the game.

McGuire slowed terrific speed and moves on his long touchdown run and looks like a keeper for dynasty leagues. If Bilal Powell gets hurt, he could be a difference maker in redraft leagues despite our low expectations for the Jets. McGuire shouldn't be on the waiver wire in any leagues.

NYJ - RB Bilal Powell has monster game

    Source: NFL.com

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell rushed for 163 yards and one touchdown on 21 carries against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 4. He also caught four passes for 27 yards during the game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Powell had a 75-yard score that was a bit of a fluke as the Jaguars defense mistakenly thought he was down, but Powell was also a tough lead runner as the team nursed a lead. Just like last year, he was an RB1 with Matt Forte out, and he might projected as one next week against the Browns if Forte is out again.

JAX - RB Leonard Fournette has outstanding outing

    Source: NFL.com

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette rushed for 86 yards on 24 carries against the New York Jets in Week 4. He also caught four passes for 59 yards and one touchdown during the game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fournette is the only thing the Jaguars have going on offense, and he was able to score in garbage time in the one game that got completely away from them. He's a strong RB1 heading to Pittsburgh.

CLE - RB Duke Johnson has decent outing

    Source: NFL.com

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson rushed for 13 yards and one touchdown on four carries against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 4. He also caught nine passes for 47 yards during the game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It seems like the Browns know that Johnson is the best player they have on offense. It was good to see Deshone Kizer targeting him so much, but some of that was because he was so bad targeting other players. Johnson is a flex in nonPPR and maybe even a PPR RB2 heading into a matchup with the Jets.

CLE - RB Isaiah Crowell quiet again

    Source: NFL.com

Cleveland Browns RB Isaiah Crowell rushed for 20 yards on seven carries against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Crowell isn't droppable, but you're aren't nearly as excited to play him against the Jets next week as you thought you would be a few weeks ago.

HOU - DeShaun Watson has big day

    Source: The Associated Press

Houston Texans QB DeShaun Watson accounted for five touchdowns, four through the air and one on the ground, in a 57-14 win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, Oct. 1. Watson finished 25-for-34 for 283 yards.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watson is a QB1 going forward. He has a test against the Chiefs next week, but Watson is using his legs and his secondary receivers to keep defenses off balance, especially outside of the pocket. The Texans should feel great about their chances in the division after such a terrible start to the season.

CIN - RB Joe Mixon held in check

    Source: NFL.com

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon rushed for 29 yards on 17 carries against the Cleveland Browns in Week 4. He also caught four passes for 19 yards during the game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mixon got the 20+ touches in an easy win that we were looking for today, but he did nothing with him and Andy Dalton accounted for all four touchdowns scored by the Bengals. We'll stick with Mixon as at least a flex going forward and against the Bills next week and be wary of the Browns run defense.

BUF - WR Jordan Matthews suffers injury

    Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills WR Jordan Matthews (thumb) suffered a thumb injury in Week 4 and is considered questionable to return.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills are already inexperienced at wide receiver. Charles Clay and LeSean McCoy will continue to shoulder the load in the passing game.
