NFL Player News - Week 1

BUF - Jonathan Williams a surprise cut

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

Buffalo Bills RB Jonathan Williams was waived Sunday, Sept. 3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills appeared to be ready to install Williams as the primary backup behind LeSean McCoy, so this is a surprise indeed. Mike Tolbert is the backup for now, and Joe Banyard is a back on the roster with some NFL experience, but now the situation behind McCoy feels like an avoid.

CAR - PK Graham Gano on track to play

Source: Charlotte Observer - Joseph Person

Carolina Panthers PK Graham Gano will serve as the kicker for Week 1 if the team keeps two kickers on their roster, according to general manager Marty Hurney.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gano was a valuable fantasy kicker last year and he'll have value this year whether in Carolina or as a starter elsewhere, although any team he would be traded to would not be as good of a kicker situation.

KC - RB C.J. Spiller returns to KC

Source: The Kansas City Star - Terez A. Paylor

Free-agent RB C.J. Spiller (Chiefs) was re-signed by the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, Sept. 3, one day after the team released him.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Spiller's fantasy profile has life again as the #3 in Kansas City behind a rookie and Charcandrick West. The Chiefs may have had an arrangement in place to assure him of a roster spot.

WAS - WR Josh Doctson practicing Sunday

    Source: CSNWashington.com - JP Finlay

Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson (hamstring) was spotted at practice Sunday, Sept. 3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Doctson is just a stash at his point, as his persistent injuries have kept him from building any momentum with the team. His dynasty stock continues to drop.

CHI - RB Jeremy Langford, TE Ben Braunecker cut

Source: Chicago Tribune - Brad Biggs

Chicago Bears RB Jeremy Langford and TE Ben Braunecker were waived Sunday, Sept. 3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Langford gave way to Ravens cut Tiquan Mizzell on the roster, but really rookie Tarik Cohen took his job as the backup to Jordan Howard. He could get signed elsewhere after injuries wear down the NFL running back ranks.

DEN - QB Brock Osweiler agrees to terms

    Source: NFL.com - Marc Sessler

The Denver Broncos have agreed to terms with free-agent QB Brock Osweiler (Browns) on a one-year deal, pending a physical which will take place Monday, Sept. 4. The Browns will have to pay the bulk of Osweiler's $16 million salary, with the Broncos only responsible for giving him the league minimum.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Paxton Lynch is hurt and the team needs a backup. If Trevor Siemian doesn't show progress, the team could turn back to Osweiler in quick completion of the circle of life.

BUF - Buffalo works out QB Joe Webb

    Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates

Free-agent QB Joe Webb (Panthers) recently worked out for the Buffalo Bills, according to a source.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Webb has a connection to Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott from the time they spent together in Carolina and it's not completely out of the question that he could get on the field for the team this year if he was signed.

IND - Stephen Morris, TE Brandon Williams cut

Indianapolis Colts QB Stephen Morris was waived Sunday, Sept. 3. The team also released TE Brandon D. Williams.

Morris's spot was lost when the Colts were able to trade for Jacoby Brissett.

    Tuesday Update

DAL - TE Rico Gathers placed on IR

    Source: DallasCowboys.com - Rob Phillips

Dallas Cowboys TE Rico Gathers (concussion) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Monday, Sept 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We love Gathers in dynasty leagues, and he flashed early in the preseason. Gathers will have plenty of time to recover from this concussion and perhaps be brought back later in the year. He's out until Week 9 at the earliest.

KC - Committee for Chiefs in Week 1

    Source: ESPN.com - Adam Teicher

Kansas City Chiefs RBs Kareem Hunt, Charcandrick West and C.J. Spiller are all expected to see the field in Week 1, according to offensive coordinator Matt Nagy. Hunt will start the game, but Nagy said all three are 'a big part' of the game plan against the New England Patriots.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hunt is the lead back but the rookie from Toledo needs to improve his pass protection if he's going to be on the field during key passing situations. West and Spiller both have plenty of experience and could take away some snaps/targets/receptions from Hunt in the Chiefs backfield.

TEN - No snap count for WR Corey Davis

    Source: ESPN.com - Paul Kuharsky

Tennessee Titans rookie WR Corey Davis (hamstring) will not be on a snap count in Week 1, but he will be used in specific situations, according to head coach Mike Mularkey.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for the rookie here. Davis has missed quite a bit of time with this hamstring injury and will need to get back to speed before he makes much of an impact. Stash him on your bench in deeper leagues.

PIT - Le'Veon Bell ready for workload

Source: NFL Network - Aditi Kinkhabwala

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell said he's prepared for a full workload in Week 1 despite being winded in practice Monday, Sept. 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's no surprise that Bell would not be in football shape during his first practice back with the team after missing all of training camp. He may not quite look like himself in Week 1, but Bell is a no-brainer must start anytime he's got a jersey on. Bell is a set-it-and-forget-it RB1 for fantasy owners every week.

HOU - WR DeAndre Hopkins pronounces himself healthy

Source: NFL Network - James Palmer

Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins (thumb) told reporters he is '1,000 percent' recovered from the thumb injury that sidelined him for a few weeks during the preseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hopkins is catching passes from QB Tom Savage (for now) and that doesn't give us a ton of confidence. At home against the Jaguars defense in the season opener makes Hopkins more of a WR2/flex option for fantasy owners.

IND - QB Andrew Luck out for Week 1

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating an ongoing story, Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (shoulder) will not play in Week 1, according to general manager Chris Ballard. He's on the active roster and will practice.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Luck is missing this game as many expected, but his status after Week 1 is a bit of a mystery. Even though the Colts traded New England for QB Jacoby Brissett, we should see Scott Tolzien in as the starter while Luck is down.

LAC - WR Mike Williams still weeks away?

    Source: ESPN.com - Eric D. Williams

Los Angeles Chargers WR Mike Williams (back) is still 'maybe a couple weeks away' from returning to practice, general manager Tom Telesco said Sunday, Sept. 3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's not a shocker as Wiliams should be ready around Week 4 or Week 5 according to reporter speculation. Williams is not on the PUP list, so that indicates the team believes the talented rookie WR will be back before Week 7. It will be interesting to see how the pecking order is changed in the Chargers WR corps once Williams is back on the field. Expect the Chargers to ease the rookie back into action.

OAK - PK Sebastian Janikowski's status uncertain

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Oakland Raiders PK Sebastian Janikowski's status with the team is uncertain because he has refused to restructure his contract to this point, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This situation needs to be monitored by fantasy owners. Janikowski is scheduled to make $4 million this season and could be released if he does not agree to the reworked deal.

BUF - QB Tyrod Taylor can practice

    Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Updating an earlier report, Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor (concussion) is able to practice Monday, Sept. 4, despite remaining in the concussion protocol. The league guidelines state that a player may be considered to return to practice only after the player has returned to baseline status with rest and exertion, has repeat neurophysiological testing and has completed the return to participation protocol. He also must be cleared by the team physician and the independent neurological consultant.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Taylor is doing individual work to begin the week. If he progresses, Taylor should be ready for the Week 1 opener against the Jets.

NYG - Odell Beckham not practicing

    Source: Newsday - Tom Rock

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (ankle) didn't practice Monday, Sept. 4. He rode the bike and went inside for rehab work.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Giants begin the season on the road against the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football. The team is hopeful Beckham will be ready for the season opener, but make sure to check on his practice status on Friday.

BUF - WR Jordan Matthews not cleared yet

    Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills WR Jordan Matthews (chest) is still not fully cleared Monday, Sept. 4, according to head coach Sean McDermott. He is working in that direction.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Matthews has been battling this chest injury basically from the early moments of his time with the Bills. The plan was for him to be cleared for Week 1, and he's been on track to do that. We should see Matthews out there, but fantasy owners should take a wait-and-see approach with the veteran wideout.

CIN - TE Tyler Eifert back on the field

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Paul Dehner Jr. and Jim Owczarski

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (knee) participated in practice Monday, Sept. 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for the Bengals, Andy Dalton and fantasy owners here. Eifert did not play in the final two preseason games because of the injury. Playing against the Ravens in Week 1, Eifert could continue as a red-zone threat and TE1 for fantasy owners if healthy.

CIN - WR John Ross sits out Monday

    Source: ESPN.com - Katherine Terrell

Cincinnati Bengals WR John Ross (knee) did not participate in practice Monday, Sept. 4.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The speedy rookie has a minor injury but he is expected to miss a couple of weeks.

KC - TE Travis Kelce limited Monday

    Source: Chiefs.com

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce (calf) was limited during practice Monday, Sept. 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's early in the week, but the Chiefs play against the Patriots in the season opener on Thursday night. Kelce will be as ready as he can be in Week 1, and fantasy owners will be thrilled to have him in their lineups.

NFL - Jonathan Williams not claimed

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Free-agent RB Jonathan Williams (Bills) went unclaimed Monday, Sept. 4, and is now a free agent.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Something is amiss here...it has to be. Williams has talent and certainly flashed for the Bills in the preseason. Perhaps there's something behind the scenes (medical, off field) that is giving teams pause when it comes to adding Williams.

DEN - WR Demaryius Thomas out of practice

Source: The Denver Post - Nicki Jhabvala

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas (groin) is out of practice Monday, Sept. 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's just a precautionary move for the Broncos according to head coach Vance Joseph. Thomas is going to be the centerpiece of the Broncos passing attack if healthy, and he's got WR1 upside for fantasy owners. The Broncos play on Monday Night Football (the second game) against the Chargers, and we see Thomas as a WR2 with upside in the season opener.

HOU - WR Braxton Miller eyeing season opener

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson
Houston Texans WR Braxton Miller (ankle) is 'tentatively' expected to be ready for Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Miller is still learning the nuances of the WR position and he's only a player dynasty owners should be interested in. We'll be watching his progress as a pro when he returns to the field.

    Ezekiel Elliott

Hi folks -- we finally have some clarity on the Ezekiel Elliott situation.

The NFL announced this evening that
Elliott WILL PLAY this Sunday night against the Giants. The league agreed to allow Elliott to play this week because of the tight timing of this chain of decisions.

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000839569/art...

Earlier this evening, arbitrator Harold Henderson upheld the six game suspension the league imposed on Elliott. This sets the stage for the next ruling, a pending decision from U.S. District Court Judge Amos Mazzant III on whether to grant the NFLPA and Elliott a Temporary Restraining Order to delay the suspension.

Judge Mazzant's decision will be announced by 5:00 PM Central Time this Friday.
"If Mazzant III does not grant the NFLPA's [Temporary Restraining Order] request, Elliott's suspension would begin Week 2 against the Denver Broncos."

However, if Judge Mazzant does grant the Temporary Restraining Order, Elliott's suspension will be delayed indefinitely.

There's absolutely no clarity at this point on which way Judge Mazzant will rule. However, there are several sourced reports touting the effectiveness of the case presented by the NFLPA and Elliott's attorneys.

From Mike Fisher of 105.3 The Fan in Dallas:

"Source: Judge Mazzant VERY TROUBLED by 'fundamental unfairness' of NFL approach in #EzekielElliott case. #Cowboys RB has real shot at [Temporary Restraining Order]."

    https://twitter.com/fishsports/status/905229075001...

From Kate Hairopoulos of the Dallas Morning News:

"Mazzant zoned in on the issue of NFL making Kia Roberts available to Goodell. Said it's a series of events he can't just ignore."

    https://twitter.com/khairopoulos/status/9052272259...

Our Sigmund Bloom provided more detail on Kia Roberts' importance to the case:

"The judge zoned in on the issue of the NFL Director of Investigations Kia Roberts availability to Commissioner Roger Goodell. Her recommendation of no discipline never made it into the final letter or report and she was not invited to a meeting with Goodell to discuss Elliott's discipline."

So here's the Bottom Line: if you have Zeke Elliott on your roster, you can start him on Sunday. But stay tuned for the judge's decision Friday evening to see when you may have the chance to play him again.

    Wednesday Update

OAK - PK Sebastian Janikowski's back an issue

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Oakland Raiders PK Sebastian Janikowski (back) looked 'awful' in practice Monday, Sept. 4, according to a source, as his back has been slow to recover. The team worked out three kickers Monday.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on this if you've drafted Janikowski in your fantasy league. There's a chance he could be released if he doesn't take a pay cut.

SEA - RB Thomas Rawls officially starting

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls is listed as the No. 1 running back on the Seahawks' depth chart. RB Eddie Lacy is listed as the backup, followed by RB C.J. Prosise.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rawls is not guaranteed to play in Week 1 as he's dealing with an ankle injury. He's at the top of the depth chart but we could see Lacy begin the year as the lead back if Rawls isn't healthy. The Seahawks backfield is a bit of a mess for fantasy owners, but we don't mind making rookie Chris Carson a 'lottery ticket' pick late in deep drafts.

NE - WR Danny Amendola's snaps to be managed

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola's snap count for the upcoming season is 'expected to be managed with long-term preservation' in mind, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners should consider Amendola a late-round flier at the WR position this year but that's about it. Chris Hogan should move to the slot with Amendola rotating on the outside opposite Brandin Cooks.

NYJ - WR Jeremy Kerley back with Jets

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent WR Jeremy Kerley (49ers) is signing a one-year deal with the New York Jets Tuesday, Sept. 5, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kerley could actually have value in deep PPR leagues due to his skill set and role in the Jets offense as the slot receiver. The Jets don't have much in the passing game, but Kerley might be their most targeted wideout.

PIT - Le'Veon Bell in shape

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ed Bouchette

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell is in 'great physical condition,' according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great physical condition is not the same as 'football shape' and that's what Bell is working towards. We should see him get near his full workload, if not the entire workload, in the team's season opener against the Browns.

CAR - RB Christian McCaffrey to be featured

Source: ESPN.com - Dianna Marie Russini

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey has a large part of the offense devoted to him, according to team sources, and he has his own separate playbook.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Panthers are wise to feature McCaffrey as much as possible in this offense. He's incredibly dangerous with the ball in his hands and he can hurt defenses as a patient runner or receiver out of the backfield. As the centerpiece of the offense, McCaffrey could pay off big time for fantasy owners that added him as a RB2 in their drafts.

DEN - RB Devontae Booker could practice soon

Source: The Denver Post - Nicki Jhabvala

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker's (wrist) X-rays on his injured wrist looked good and he may practice as soon as this week or next week, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Booker was always pegged for a return in Week 2 or Week 3 and it looks like he's on track. When healthy, Booker will push for snaps in the backfield with starter C.J. Anderson and change-of-pace back Jamaal Charles. There's not much there for him unless Anderson gets hurt (again). Keep Booker on your waiver wire speed dial.

NYG - TE Rhett Ellison listed as starter

    Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants TE Rhett Ellison is listed as the starting tight end on the team's depth chart for Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ellison may be the starter but he's mostly going to be a blocking tight end. Rookie Evan Engram (first-round pick, Ole Miss) could catch the most passes at the position even though he's not the starter to begin the season.

NYG - WR Brandon Marshall ready for Week 1

    Source: SNY - Ralph Vacchiano

New York Giants WR Brandon Marshall (shoulder) declared himself ready for Week 1 versus the Dallas Cowboys.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team has been working him towards the season opener, and it looks like everything is on track. Marshall missed about a week of practice and missed the team's last two preseason games after sustaining a shoulder injury on Aug. 21 against the Cleveland Browns.

Source: Fort Worth Star-Telegram - Drew Davison

Free-agent QB Kellen Moore (Cowboys) will re-sign with the Dallas Cowboys Tuesday, Sept. 5, according to owner Jerry Jones.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Cowboys only have rookie Cooper Rush as the backup to Dak Prescott, so it makes sense to bring Moore back for veteran experience.

SEA - QB Trevone Boykin added to practice squad

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Charean Williams
Free-agent QB Trevone Boykin (Seahawks) was signed to the Seattle Seahawks' practice squad Monday, Sept. 4.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Boykin was pretty bad in August and he lost the backup job to Austin Davis. He's an athletic QB, but Boykin needs help when it comes to decision making as a passer....and oh yeah, he needs to stay out of trouble off the field.

    Thursday Update

NYG - WR Odell Beckham Jr. 'uncertain' for Week 1

    Source: SNY - Ralph Vacchiano

Updating a previous report, New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (ankle) has done some running and cutting on his injured ankle, but he appears to be more hopeful than confident he'll play in Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys, according to SNY's Ralph Vacchiano.

Monitor this situation as the Giants play on Sunday night against the Cowboys. We should have more clarity on Beckham's availability on Friday.

BUF - RB LeSean McCoy destined for extreme workload?

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Rodak

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy will be given whatever workload it takes to the win the game each week, according to head coach Sean McDermott, who suggested his starting running back could play every snap of every game this season Wednesday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCoy is perfect for the zone-blocking system implemented by new OC Rick Dennison. He could be in for a workload that exceeds what he's done in the pros. McCoy is the centerpiece of what the Bills want to do on offense, and even if they fall behind he can stay on the field as a dangerous receiving option. McCoy is a RB1, set-it-and-forget-it starter each week for fantasy owners.

BAL - QB Joe Flacco feeling good

    Source: WNST.net - Luke Jones

Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco (back) said his back is feeling good Wednesday, Sept. 6, and he didn't receive an injection to assist with the recovery.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news for the Ravens here as Flacco has missed the entire preseason due to this back injury. Head coach John Harbaugh said Flacco has responded well to the first couple of days of practice. We're not starting Flacco, but we are monitoring his targets to establish the preferred players for the veteran quarterback.

BUF - QB Tyrod Taylor good to go

    Source: WKBW.com - Joe Buscaglia

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor (concussion) has been cleared from the concussion protocol Wednesday, Sept. 6, and he's expected to start in Week 1 against the New York Jets, according to head coach Sean McDermott.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Taylor got out of the concussion protocol earlier this week, so he's been trending in the right direction. Even in a matchup against the hapless Jets in Week 1, we've got Taylor as a high-end QB2 for fantasy owners.

TB - RB Doug Martin now returning Week 5

    Source: Buccaneers.com

Updating an earlier report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin will now be eligible to return from suspension in Week 5 after the team's Week 1 game was pushed to Week 11 due to Hurricane Irma.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners have to wait just a bit longer for Martin to return. When he does, Martin should put up RB1 numbers for the Bucs. In the meantime, Jacquizz Rodgers leads the way in the Bucs backfield.

CIN - TE Tyler Eifert takes part in full practice

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Paul Dehner Jr.

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (knee) was able to participate in a full practice on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Eifert is healthy (for now) and hopefully he stays that way all year. When he's out there, Eifert is a red-zone favorite of QB Andy Dalton and has TE1 ability and production. Start him as a low-end TE1 this week at home against the Ravens.

BAL - RB Danny Woodhead listed as full participant

    Source: BaltimoreRavens.com

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead (thigh) was listed as a full participant in practice Wednesday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Woodhead should be a great receiving option for QB Joe Flacco. That gives him RB3 or flex appeal for fantasy owners in PPR leagues.

BAL - WR Breshad Perriman practices in full

    Source: BaltimoreRavens.com

Baltimore Ravens WR Breshad Perriman (thigh) was a full participant in practice Wednesday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Perriman has talent, but he's been too banged up to get a real good look at. He's got the speed to take the top off the defense lined up on the outside. In deep leagues, we did draft him as a 'lottery ticket' pick late but there's no way we want Perriman in the starting lineup (even as a What the Heck Flex) in Week 1.

DEN - WR Demaryius Thomas back at practice

Source: The Denver Post - Nicki Jhabvala

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas (groin) returned to practice for the first time in nearly two weeks. Thomas was injured during the team's third preseason game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas is going to be the centerpiece of the Broncos passing attack. Against the Chargers on Monday Night Football in Week 1, we've got Thomas as a low-end WR1 for fantasy owners.

NE - QB Tom Brady cleared in concussion probe

Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady was cleared of wrongdoing Wednesday, Sept. 6, in the NFL's probe to discover whether a concussion wasn't reported.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This all started when Brady's wife went on TV and talked about how he was concussed and played with them/through them. The NFL specifically noted that Brady turned over his medical records, and the Patriots cooperated fully. Looks like a non-issue.

KC - RB Kareem Hunt to be featured Week 1?

    Source: ESPN.com - Adam Teicher

Kansas City Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt will be the team's 'regular featured back' against the New England Patriots on Thursday, Sept. 7, according to ESPN.com's Adam Teicher.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hunt needs to improve his pass-protection ability if he wants to earn more snaps on passing downs. We see him as a RB2 or flex options for fantasy owners in Week 1.

SEA - RB Thomas Rawls is a full participant - but ankle an issue

Seattle Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls (ankle) was listed as a full participant for practice on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's a good sign, but his status for Week 1 is still up in the air with an ankle issue. Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports it's a high ankle sprain. Check back on Friday to see if Rawls can fully participate again, but only consider him a RB3 in the season opener.

OAK - WR Amari Cooper listed as limited

Oakland Raiders WR Amari Cooper (knee) was listed as a limited participant for practice on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He's limited but Cooper should be ready to go for the season opener. Cooper is a WR1 on the road against the Titans in Week 1.

JAX - RB Leonard Fournette good to go in Week 1

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette (foot) was not listed on the team's injury report for Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Sweet, but we're still being cautious when considering the rookie for our lineups. If you can plug him in as a low-end RB2 or flex option that would probably be for the best. The upside of a RB1 is there with Fournette if this foot injury doesn't slow him down.

JAX - QB Blake Bortles takes part in full practice

    Source: Jaguars.com

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles (wrist) was able to practice in full on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cool. Nobody is going to start him. The entire Jaguars passing game is not really exciting for fantasy owners. They want to run the ball and limit Bortles (for good reason). We'll see if Bortles can surprise us in Week 1.

WAS - WR Josh Doctson practices in full

    Source: Redskins.com

Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson (hamstring) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cool. Now if the young wideout could just stay healthy. Doctson is someone for fantasy owners to monitor, but the only Washington WRs we're trusting in our Week 1 lineups are Jamison Crowder and Terrelle Pryor.

CHI - QB Mitchell Trubisky elevated to No. 2

    Source: ChicagoBears.com - Larry Mayer

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky was elevated to No. 2 on the depth chart behind starting QB Mike Glennon. 'He earned it,' head coach John Fox said. 'It's not something we handed him for any particular reason other than he earned it.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

As Terrell Owens used to say 'it's only a matter of time!' We should see Trubisky take over as the Bears starter at some point in 2017.

DET - WR Kenny Golladay limited Wednesday

    Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman

Detroit Lions WR Kenny Golladay (ankle) put in a limited practice Wednesday, Sept. 6.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The rookie had plenty of preseason hype...and for good reason. We love his skill set and upside, but this injury (and the learning curve for rookies) will make us wait before even considering Golladay as a 'what the heck' flex.

NYJ - RB Bilal Powell practices in full

    Source: NewYorkJets.com

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ribs) was listed as a full participant in practice Wednesday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills have a tough front four on defense, and that could cramp things for Powell and the Jets rushing game in Week 1. We consider Powell a RB2 for fantasy owners.

NYJ - RB Matt Forte takes part in full practice

    Source: NewYorkJets.com

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (knee) was able to take part in a full practice session on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If you drafted Forte you don't really have much hope for starting him as anything more than a 'I forget to set my lineup' option. He's a RB4 this week against the Bills.

DET - TE Eric Ebron not on injury report

    Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman

Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron (hamstring) is not listed on the Lions' injury report Wednesday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ebron has upside for fantasy owners if h stays healthy and scores more touchdowns this year. Starting off the year healthy is a good way to begin, and we've got him as a high-end TE2 this week against the Cardinals.

CAR - QB Cam Newton is listed as full participant

    Source: Panthers.com

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) went through a full practice on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Traveling across the country to play the 49ers in Week 1, we've got Newton as a QB1 for fantasy owners. They've been working on getting him back to full strength before the season and it looks like he's ready.

CAR - WR Curtis Samuel goes through full practice

    Source: Panthers.com

Carolina Panthers WR Curtis Samuel (ankle) went through a full practice session on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Samuel is a threat every time he touches the ball, but he's still developing as a route runner and his role is a bit unclear. The Panthers would be wise to find all sorts of ways to get him the ball, but Samuel may start as more of a gadget player to begin his pro career.

CLE - Full practice for WR Kenny Britt

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich
Cleveland Browns WR Kenny Britt (knee) was a full participant in practice Wednesday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Britt moves into the no1 WR position for the Browns since Terrelle Pryor is playing for Washington. This week against the Steelers we're not going to recommend Britt as anything more than a WR4 or flex option in PPR leagues.

BUF - WR Jordan Matthews able to practice fully

Buffalo Bills WR Jordan Matthews (chest) was listed as a full participant for practice on Wednesday, Sept. 6.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Matthews has been dealing with this chest injury for most of his short time with the Bills. The plan was to have him ready for Week 1 and it looks like he's ready.

NE - WR Malcolm Mitchell questionable for Thursday

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots WR Malcolm Mitchell (knee) is listed as questionable against the Kansas City Chiefs Thursday, Sept. 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
With the game coming up on Thursday night we are at best going to see a limited Mitchell on the football field. Even if he was 100 percent healthy, the second-year pro is not much of a fantasy option.

CIN - RB Jeremy Hill goes through full practice

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Paul Dehner Jr.

Cincinnati Bengals RB Jeremy Hill (ankle) was able to take part in a full practice session on Wednesday, Sept. 6.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hill is listed atop the depth chart for the Bengals but this ankle injury could negatively impact his performance in Week 1. Watch to see how rookie RB Joe Mixon plays as he's the most talented back on the roster and should emerge as a starting option at some point this year.

BAL - WR Jeremy Maclin goes through full practice

    Source: BaltimoreRavens.com

Baltimore Ravens WR Jeremy Maclin (hand) was able to take part in a full practice session Wednesday, Sept. 6.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Maclin should be a favorite target for QB Joe Flacco. On the road against the Bengals we can only trust the veteran as a WR3 or flex option for fantasy owners. Flacco missed the entire preseason so any chemistry between the two is still in the early stages.

CHI - Chicago to use committee at receiver

Source: Chicago Tribune - Brad Biggs

Chicago Bears intend to use a committee at receiver to make up the season ending knee injury to WR Cameron Meredith, according to offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains, who stated packages will be designed for specific receivers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The quarterback situation with Mike Glennon doesn't give us much confidence in the Bears passing attack. If (when?) Glennon is replaced by rookie Mitchell Trubisky, the pecking order in terms of preferred target could be shaken up.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The last time Jeffery played against Washington, he was targeted 10 times and caught 5 passes for 92 yards in Week 16 of 2016. We've got him as a low-end WR2 in PPR leagues this week.

    Friday Update

NYG - Odell Beckham remains sidelined - faces uphill battle

    Source: Giants.com

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (ankle) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If you have Beckham it's looking like you'll want to make sure you have an alternate plan. Ian Rapoport said Thursday it's looking like Beckham is facing an "uphill battle" to play Sunday. And even if he does play, it's looking like he won't be 100%. The Giants play the night game against the Cowboys, and things are trending toward Beckham missing the game. Check back Friday to see if he can practice.

BUF - QB Tyrod Taylor practices again

    Source: BuffaloBills.com

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor (concussion) fully participated in practice Thursday, Sept. 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He's good to go for Week 1 in a matchup against the hapless Jets. We like him as a QB2 with upside in this game.

CAR - WR Curtis Samuel practices Thursday

    Source: Panthers.com

Carolina Panthers WR Curtis Samuel (ankle) fully participated in practice Thursday, Sept. 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Samuel is a dynamic rookie wide receiver but his role within the offense is up in the air. He's dangerous when he touches the ball, but Samuel is not a refined route runner and is still developing his game at the position. We love him as a dynasty prospect and are only monitoring his progress in redraft leagues.

CAR - Full practice for QB Cam Newton

    Source: Panthers.com

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) fully participated in practice Thursday, Sept. 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Newton was targeting a return in Week 1 and he's made it. Traveling across the country to play the 49ers, Newton should pay off as a QB1 for fantasy owners.

JAX - WR Dede Westbrook still limited

    Source: Jaguars.com

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Dede Westbrook (core) remained limited in practice Thursday, Sept. 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Westbrook was a late-round 'lottery ticket' pick for fantasy owners in deep leagues and we appreciate his skill set for dynasty leagues. We're not going overboard with any Jaguars wide receiver in 2017.

JAX - QB Blake Bortles a full participant

    Source: Jaguars.com

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles (wrist) put in a full practice Thursday, Sept. 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bortles beat out Chad Henne for the starting job but he may have a short leash if he struggles. Fantasy owners should not have much stock in the Jaguars passing game in 2017.

DET - WR Kenny Golladay limited again

    Source: DetroitLions.com

Detroit Lions WR Kenny Golladay (ankle) was limited during practice Thursday, Sept. 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We love the rookie's upside in dynasty leagues but in redraft leagues he may not have much of an impact...at least early in his first season. We'll have to see his ankle injury clear up before he's able to show off what he can do.

CLE - WR Kenny Britt full go Thursday

    Source: ClevelandBrowns.com

Cleveland Browns WR Kenny Britt (knee) fully participated in practice Thursday, Sept. 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If the Browns have to play 'catch up' football against the Steelers on Sunday then Britt could have more fantasy value than some realize. We like him in the WR3/WR4 tier in the season opener.

    14. NYJ - Full practice for RB Matt Forte

    Source: NewYorkJets.com

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (knee) participated fully in practice Thursday, Sept. 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's cool, but fantasy owners should not be rushing to get Forte into their lineups. Starter Bilal Powell should put up low-end RB2 numbers in the season opener against the Bills.

NYJ - RB Bilal Powell fully practices

    Source: NewYorkJets.com

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ribs) had his second straight day of full practice Thursday, Sept. 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills have a strong front four on defense, so Powell is best looked at as a low-end RB2 in Week 1. He's the lead back but we should see some touches for backup Matt Forte as well.

WAS - WR Josh Doctson participates in practice

    Source: Redskins.com

Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson (hamstring) fully participated in practice Thursday, Sept. 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Doctson is the great unknown in the Washington passing game. Jamison Crowder is a favorite target of QB Kirk Cousins, and Terrelle Pryor should work to fit in with his new quarterback and his new team. Doctson needs to stay healthy and show off the skill set that got him drafted as a first-round pick out of TCU. Keep him on your waiver wire speed dial just in case he's able to do that and emerge in a crowded group.

WAS - WR Jamison Crowder limited Thursday

    Source: Redskins.com

Washington Redskins WR Jamison Crowder (hip) was limited during practice Thursday, Sept. 7.

CIN - Full practice for TE Tyler Eifert

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Paul Dehner Jr.

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (knee) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He's healthy and needs to be in your lineup. Eifert is a security blanket player for QB Andy Dalton and should be featured in the red zone. He's a low-end TE1 in Week 1 against the Ravens.

CIN - RB Jeremy Hill fully practices again

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Paul Dehner Jr.

Cincinnati Bengals RB Jeremy Hill (ankle) participated fully in practice Thursday, Sept. 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's a good sign for Hill's projection for Sunday against the Ravens. He's atop the team's depth chart but will be working in a complicated RBBC with Gio Bernard and rookie Joe Mixon. This is a bit of a mess for fantasy owners until someone emerges. It's best to consider Hill as a RB3/flex option in Week 1.

CAR - RB Jonathan Stewart to see short-yardage work

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart is expected to receive the short-yardage work, in the opinion of the Charlotte Observer's Scott Fowler.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Given how bad the San Francisco 49ers look across the board, most pundits expect there to be a lot of carries to go around this week. So Christian McCaffrey--who reportedly has a whole set of plays just for him--will get plenty of work and there will still be carries left over for Jonathan Stewart making him at least a decent flex play this weekend.

    Saturday Update

DAL - RB Ezekiel Elliott granted restraining order

Source: Fort Worth Star-Telegram - Clarence E. Hill Jr.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott was granted a temporary restraining order by a Texas judge on Friday, Sept. 8.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The chances of Elliott playing all season just went way up. If the NFL can get the fifth circuit to rule against Elliott then he might be suspended during the season, but the way that the court system moves, Elliott is probably not going to have to deal with this suspension until 2018, assuming it is upheld in the federal courts.

Oakland Raiders PK Sebastian Janikowski (back) was limited during practice Friday, Sept. 8, and is listed as questionable for Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It sounds like Janikowski will play, but there's no reason to risk him in the lineup with the possibility of Giorgio Tavecchio getting called up to replace him at the last minute.

Updating a previous report, New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (ankle) did not practice Friday, Sept. 8, for the third straight day. His is officially listed as questionable.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Beckham is a game-time decision, but as long as you have a viable play to replace him, we think the safe play is to err on the side of leaving him on your bench.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

As long as the offensive line is improved from last year, Cook should provide consistent value, bolstered by his receiving skills. He is an upside RB2 play this week against the Saints.

Lynch looked like his old self in the preseason, albeit in very limited duty. The Raiders offensive line should help his cause. He's a solid RB2 play this week.

SEA - RB Thomas Rawls questionable for Week 1

Source: The Tacoma News Tribune - Gregg Bell

Seattle Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls (ankle) practiced in full on Friday, Sept. 8, but is still listed as questionable for Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Head coach Pete Carroll revealed that Rawls suffered a high ankle sprain previously and he is a game-time decision. They might take it slow with him to avoid any re-injury or setbacks because of their depth at running back. If Rawls is out, Eddie Lacy becomes flexworthy against his old Packers team.

SEA - WR Tyler Lockett listed as questionable

Source: The Tacoma News Tribune - Gregg Bell

Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett (knee) practiced in full on Friday, Sept. 8, but he is still listed as questionable for Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lockett is going to split the #2 wide receiver role with Paul Richardson if he's active. The matchup is good against the Packers defense, but if the role is split, there isn't a clear start. If Lockett is inactive, Richardson will be a upside WR3.

WAS - WR Josh Doctson removed from injury report

    Source: Redskins.com

Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson (hamstring) was a full participant in practice Friday, Sept. 8, and has been removed from the injury report.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Doctson had a disappointing preseason and camp because of injuries, but it sounds like he is ready to contribute as the #3 receiver this week. He's worth an end of the bench spot on talent alone.

WAS - WR Jamison Crowder questionable

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins WR Jamison Crowder (hip) has been listed as questionable with a hip flexor for Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Crowder said he expects to play and he should have a good matchup against the Eagles corners with Ronald Darby a better matchup for Terrelle Pryor. Crowder is a solid WR3/Flex PPR play this week even with the risk of the hip issue. Check back on Sunday morning to make sure he is active.

TB - Tampa Bay to use RBBC without RB Doug Martin

    Source: ESPN.com - Jenna Laine

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers will most likely be the first- and second- down back, while Charles Sims will handle most of the third-down work and Peyton Barber will be the goal-line back while Doug Martin serves his season-opening three-game suspension, according to ESPN's Jenna Laine.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If Barber is the goal line back, that takes some luster off of Rodgers as a first three weeks RB2/Flex play, although next weeks matchup against the Bears should at least be flexworthy. Week 4 against the Giants is a much tougher draw for Rodgers and the Bucs running game.

NE - RB James White saw bulk of snaps Thursday

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots RB James White played in 43 of 81 offensive snaps in a Week 1 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday, Sept. 7. Mike Gillislee finished second on the team with 24, Rex Burkhead had 10 and Dion Lewis tallied six.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
White could have more value when the Patriots stay ahead and allow him to get on track, while Burkhead and Lewis did too little to carry in short bench leagues.

CIN - Cincinnati to utilize hot hand at RB

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Paul Dehner Jr.
Cincinnati Bengals RBs Jeremy Hill, Joe Mixon and Giovani Bernard are expected to begin the season in a committee, according to running backs coach Kyle Caskey.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
For now there is no clarity in this backfield and it's hard to trust anyone, especially with the questions about the Cincinnati offensive line, but most observers expect Mixon to rise to the top before long.

    Sunday Morning Injury Updates

    QUARTERBACK

Cam Newton | Shoulder | QUESTIONABLE | Expected to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - Full | Thurs - Full | Fri - Full
The Panthers listed Newton questionable on the game status report but there are no questions about his availability this week. Newton has practiced fully for multiple weeks and participated in a preseason game. Reports from practice continue to be reassuring. There have been no concerns about his arm strength and accuracy. Newton should be expected to play without limitation this week.
Joe Flacco | Back | Not Listed | Expected to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - Full | Thurs - Full | Fri - Full
The Ravens likely didn't tell the whole truth about Flacco's back injury -- players don't struggle for months and miss 4-6 weeks of practice with soreness unless there's an underlying structural condition -- but they were consistent in their expectation Flacco would return to practice and play in Week 1. That's what's happened. Flacco fully practiced this week and reports are reassuring he's recovered enough to play. Symptoms of a disc herniation may recur at any time but this is more of a week-to-week watch than a snap-to-snap concern.
Tyrod Taylor | Concussion | Not Listed | Expected to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - Full | Thurs - Full | Fri - Full
Taylor completed the return-to-play protocol and was cleared to return early this week. He has had a full week of practice without recurrent symptoms, is not listed on the injury report, and will play this week.
Others of note: Carson Palmer (not injury related) and Blake Bortles (wrist) practiced this week and will play without limitation. Andrew Luck (shoulder) has been declared out. I'll update return to play expectations on all inactive players on Monday.

    RUNNING BACK

LESEAN MCCOY | Illness | NOT LISTED | Expected to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - Not Listed | Thurs - Limited | Fri - Full
McCoy was added to the injury report midweek after getting sick before Thursday's practice. He returned before the end of practice, then fully participated in Friday's limited session. He is not listed on the game status report and will play.
    Thomas Rawls | Ankle | Questionable | Game-time Decision

Practice Participation: Wed - Full | Thurs - Full | Fri - Full
Early this week, Pete Carroll told reporters Rawls was recovering from a high ankle sprain and the team wanted to see how well Rawls progressed in practice before declaring him ready to return. Rawls fully practiced all week. Ordinarily, that would be a reassuring sign. But the Seahawks seem committed to caution with Rawls and have continued to label him a game-time decision all week. High ankle sprains are easily aggravated injuries, especially for running backs who are at risk of unsure footing on every play. With Eddie Lacy, Chris Carson, and C.J. Prosise fully healthy, it's possible Seattle chooses to continue to rest Rawls this week. If he is active, it's tough to project more than a handful of touches for Rawls unless the first few series necessitate otherwise due to the ineffectiveness or injury of the other backs.
Sunday AM Update: No confirmation yet, but it's looking more likely Seattle will rest Rawls today. Ian Rapoport tweeted the Seahawks may hold him out to "get him to 100%."
Danny Woodhead | Thigh | Not Listed | Expected to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - Full | Thurs - Full | Fri - Full
Woodhead returned to a full practice this week. After preseason media reports noting the injury as a hamstring strain, the Ravens listed Woodhead as a thigh injury. It's likely semantics rather than a compensatory injury. Woodhead is not listed on the game status report and should play without limitation.
**jamaal Charles | Knee | Not Listed | Expected to Play

Practice Participation: Thurs - DNP | Fri - Full | Sat - Full
The Broncos are planning a veteran day of rest for Charles each week. He returned to full practice on Friday and Saturday and is not listed on the injury report. It's expected Charles will see 8-12 touches per game and all indications are he'll be ready for that workload this week.
    T.J. Yeldon | Hamstring | Questionable | Game-time Decision

Practice Participation: Wed - DNP | Thurs - Limited | Fri - Limited
Yeldon told reporters this week his original timetable was 2-3 weeks. That likely means he had a borderline Grade 1/2 strain. Those can require a month of recovery. Yeldon is within the 3-4 week timeframe currently and had two consecutive limited practices at the end of the week. Local media reports are scarce and it's unclear which side of questionable Yeldon currently sits. I'll have more on him as the weekend progresses.
Sunday AM Update: Ian Rapoport tweeted Yeldon could be held out today to get to 100%.
Others of note: Bilal Powell (ribs), Matt Forte (knee), Jeremy Hill (ankle), D'Onta Foreman (groin), and Zach Zenner (back)have practiced, are not listed on the game status report, and expected to play without limitation. Alfred Blue (ankle) and Devontae Booker (wrist) have been declared out. I'll update return to play expectations on all inactive players in Monday's column.
Closing the book on preseason injuries: DeMarco Murray (hamstring), Devonta Freeman (concussion), Jay Ajayi (concussion), and C.J. Prosise (groin) are all fully practicing. None were listed on their team's injury report this week and can be considered fully recovered and ready to play without limitation.

    WIDE RECEIVER

Odell Beckham, Jr | Ankle | Questionable | Game-time Decision | Limited if plays

Practice Participation: Wed - DNP | Thurs - DNP | Fri - DNP
As of Saturday afternoon, Beckham's status was uncertain. Reports had the Giants' wide receiver traveling to Dallas with the team, leaving some optimism Beckham would be able to play a limited role Sunday night. However, it's difficult to ignore the pessimism from earlier in the week. Beckham didn't do any football-related work all week with the team choosing to continue intensive treatment and rehab over individual drills. Beckham told reporters he would not play if his ankle required bracing or taping. And Bob McAdoo said the team would not risk Beckham if there was a risk of aggravation.
There's a slim chance this is a long con from the Giants. Teams generally don't allow players to speak with the media early in the week unless they're certain that player will be active. But the most likely explanation for Beckham's three DNP listings is simple -- he could not practice. If Beckham wasn't cleared for change of direction and individual drills by Friday, there's little chance additional treatment will allow him to do so by the weekend. If Beckham wasn't cleared by Friday, it's highly unlikely he'll be able to play without bracing/taping, a difficult ask on a high ankle injury for an athletic trainer anyway. If Beckham wasn't cleared by Friday, McAdoo and the Giants know there's a risk of aggravation this week.
Allowing Beckham to travel suggests the Giants are willing to let Beckham test his ankle in warmups tomorrow night. They wouldn't have chosen travel over treatment otherwise. But Beckham remains on the doubtful side of questionable. It seems silly to dress Beckham and use him as a decoy and risk an aggravation while running routes they don't intend to target him on. The best case scenario here is limited snaps in high leverage situations. The only certainty here is that Beckham will be closer to full health next week if he doesn't play this week.
I'll have more Saturday night, Sunday morning, and as pregame warmups evolve.
Sunday AM Update: The tweet storm from Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport has labeled Beckham as a game-time decision. Rapoport notes there was enough improvement with treatment to leave an option open for Beckham. Schefter followed up with a source who believes "there is real doubt" whether he will play. Nothing has changed on this for me. They may allow Beckham to warmup but the absolute best case scenario feels like 10-15 snaps/routes in high-leverage situations. You're hoping for lightning in a bottle and a red zone success. I still believe the risk-reward equation leans strongly toward Beckham being inactive tonight.
**Demaryius Thomas | Groin | Not Listed | expected to play

Practice Participation: Thurs - Full | Fri - Full | Sat - Full
Thomas has dealt with chronic hip issues for two seasons now and there were concerns his groin injury could be a compensatory injury. After a full week of full practice, those fears are mostly allayed and Thomas can be expected to play without limitation this week.
Jamison Crowder | hip | Questionable | Expected to play

Practice Participation: Wed - Not Listed | Thurs - Limited | Fri - Limited
Crowder was added to the injury report midweek with a hip flexor strain. Midweek soft tissue strains are always worrisome and hip flexor injuries can be difficult to overcome for receivers. Injuries to the front of the hip may limit explosion and change of direction, and both are critical for a slot receiver.
Jay Gruden escalated concerns in his Friday press conference by suggesting the team needed to see further recovery from Crowder overnight and would reassess on Saturday. Crowder was allowed to speak to the media, however, and downplayed the injury. He told reporters the injury was "minor" and of "no concern." Barring a surprise report or aggravation in pregame warmups, Crowder looks likely to play with minimal limitation.
Sunday AM Update: Adam Schefter tweeted Crowder will play today.
Tyler Lockett | Knee | Questionable | Expected to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - Full | Thurs - Full | Fri - Full
The Seahawks use the questionable tag as a surrogate for probable to play in many instances. That's likely the case with Lockett who returned to consecutive full practices this week after a recent stem cell injection. He is expected to play and should not be limited.
Markus Wheaton | Finger | Questionable | Likely Inactive

Practice Participation: Wed - DNP | Thurs - Limited | Fri - Limited
Wheaton is not expected to play this week. The official game status report listed him questionable but the original return to play timetable had him out at least one regular season week. There's a slim chance he'll return to play this week with the Bears' depth chart shallow at receiver.
    Kenny Golladay | Ankle | Questionable | Game-time Decision

Practice Participation: Wed - Limited | Thurs - Limited | Fri - Limited
The Lions are the league's stingiest team with injury information. One beat writer suggested Golladay was likely to be active this week but there's no consensus in Detroit because there's no information to analyze. Golladay has been competing for third wide receiver snaps and likely would see limited action at best if he's active.
    John Ross | Knee | Questionable | Game-time Decision

Practice Participation: Wed - DNP | Thurs - Limited | Fri - Limited
Marvin Lewis went Animal Farm on the Cincinnati media on Friday. He told reporters Ross could play then followed up with a "some guys could play but some are more ready than others" line. Ross has a knee sprain that was expected to keep him out another 1-2 weeks. It's possible he's recovering more quickly than expected. The Bengals generally list players they know will not be active as doubtful and Ross' two consecutive practices leave room for optimism. Still, I think Ross is unlikely to see enough snaps this week to have statistical upside. His practice this week bodes well for Week 2.
Curtis Samuel | Ankle | Questionable | Expected to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - Full | Thurs - Full | Fri - Full
The Panthers listed multiple players questionable who practiced fully and are expected to play. Put Samuel in that category. His playing time could be limited but not due to injury concerns.
Others of note: Amari Cooper (knee), Larry Fitzgerald (not injury related), DeAndre Hopkins (thumb), Jeremy Maclin (hand), Jordan Matthews (chest), Josh Doctson (hamstring), Kenny Britt (knee), Breshad Perriman (hamstring), and Braxton Miller (ankle)have fully practiced, are not listed on the game status report, and expected to play without limitation. Mike Williams (back) and Will Fuller (shoulder) have been declared out. I'll update return to play expectations on all inactive players in Monday's column.
Closing the book on preseason injuries: John Brown (quad, sickle cell trait) followed up last week's two touchdown preseason game performance with a full week of practice. The Cardinals did not limit his work and he looked to be without limitation in the preseason game. Brandon Marshall (shoulder), Tyrell Williams (groin), Eric Decker (ankle), Cooper Kupp (groin), and Corey Davis (hamstring) are all fully practicing. None were listed on their team's injury report this week and can be considered fully recovered and ready to play without limitation. The Titans may not commit fully to Davis as an integral part of their offense yet but he will be healthy enough to play a role.

    TIGHT END

JORDAN REED | Foot | Not Listed | Expected to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - Not Listed | Thurs - Not Listed | Fri - Not Listed
Reed has now navigated three weeks of full practice and suffered no setbacks. He was optimistic about an orthotic specially made to relieve pressure from the injured area at the base of his big toe and it's been successful. He was not listed on Washington's practice report at all this week and is ready for his usual workload.
Sunday AM Update: There's no change to Reed's Week 1 status. However, an Ian Rapoport tweet this morning includes confirmation of the fracture in Reed's toe. While the orthotic seems to be working for now, this remains an evolving situation. Reed himself confirmed the injury last month but it's been an underreported story. Here were my thoughts in early August.
I was ready to be optimistic about Reed after seeing tweets noting how well his first practice with his new foot orthotic went.
Then, I read this quote Reed gave reporters on Sunday:
"It's the cleats more than anything," Reed said. "The cleats prior to this were more narrow and pressing on the bone that I had the fracture in. These cleats are wider and the orthotics are softer so I don't feel it."
    Wait, what?
Reed's injury had previously been reported as a toe sprain. Last week, he confirmed he has been dealing with the injury since last year and today confirms he had a fracture in the foot. There is still a piece or two missing from this puzzle. But a turf toe like injury associated with a fractured bone irritated by certain types of cleats sounds very much like a sesamoid bone issue.
There are two small sesamoid bones found within the tendon on the underside of the joint between the big toe and the foot. Inflammation around those bones, a stress response within the bones, or a fracture would all cause pain in the same area as turf toe/toe sprain. Players may choose rest, anti-inflammatory medication, and orthotics to treat these conditions, but sesamoid injuries often require surgery. Reed's visit to Dr. Robert Anderson -- the NFL's most prominent foot surgeon -- now makes a ton more sense.
Reed was very pleased with how his foot responded to the orthotic. And he told reporters he'd be back shortly. But the orthotic could be a final attempt to manage this condition through the season. There's been no confirmation about Reed's specific injury. But my spidey senses are tingling on this one. Reed may well make it through the year without difficulty. But his revelation today is worrisome.
I'll have more in tomorrow's Injury Rounds article.
Tyler Eifert | Knee | Not Listed | Expected to Play

Practice Participation: Wed - Full | Thurs - Full | Fri - Full
The Bengals surprised observers by holding Eifert out of the third preseason game after warmups then telling reporters he was dealing with knee tendinitis. Eifert returned to practice soon after, however, and was not listed on the game status report after full practice this week. He should see his usual workload.
    George Kittle | Hamstring | Questionable | Game-time Decision

Practice Participation: Wed - Limited | Thurs - Limited | Fri - Limited
Kittle reportedly tweaked his hamstring earlier this week but made enough progress to continue practicing. Kyle Shanahan told reporters he'd be "surprised" if Kittle wasn't active this week.
Others of note: C.J. Fiedorowicz (concussion) fully practiced, is not listed on the game status report, and is expected to play without limitation.
Closing the book on preseason injuries: Eric Ebron (hamstring) is fully practicing. He was not listed on his team's injury report this week and can be considered fully recovered and ready to play without limitation.

    Sunday Update

OAK - PK Sebastian Janikowski to IR

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Oakland Raiders PK Sebastian Janikowski (back) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Sept. 9. It is not known yet whether Janikowski will be out for the season due to disc issues in his back or whether Janikowski will miss a partial section of the season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the team has signed Giorgio Tavecchio off the practice squad to kick.

NYG - Odell Beckham flying with team to Dallas

    Source: NFL.com - Mike Garafolo

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (ankle) will travel with the team Saturday, Sept. 9, in advance of the Giants' Week 1 game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, Sept. 10. He is still expected to be a game-time decision.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners who take a chance that ODB is going to play need to have a backup plan in place. Look to the Monday night games (or other Giants/Cowboys available) to have a replacement for Beckham if necessary. It's a good sign that he's traveling with the team, but there's no guarantee that the superstar WR will be playing Sunday night.

CIN - RB Giovani Bernard to remain involved

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Paul Dehner Jr.

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard should maintain his role on passing downs to start the year, according to Paul Dehner Jr. of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bengals backfield is an interesting one to navigate for fantasy owners. Jeremy Hill is the starter, Bernard is a change-of-pace back and rookie Joe Mixon is the most talented of the group (and currently third string on the depth chart). Bernard is an RB5 or deep flex, but that's about all you can trust him for in Week 1.

DET - WR Golden Tate to draw CB Patrick Peterson

    Source: ESPN.com - Josh Weinfuss

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate will likely be shadowed by Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson in Week 1, according to Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep this in mind when considering Tate for your starting lineup. Peterson often 'shadows' an opponents best WR for the whole game. Per PFF's Mike Renner, Peterson was targeted at the lowest rate of any CB in the NFL and allowed receptions at the third-lowest rate.

IND - RB Matt Jones not long for Indianapolis

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Indianapolis Colts RB Matt Jones was waived Saturday, Sept. 9.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Jones fell out of favor with Washington, they tried to trade him - couldn't find any takers - so they released him. The Colts picked him up but evidently didn't like what they saw. Maybe the Bears (who put in a waiver claim for him last week) will give Jones another chance.

NE - New England receiving calls on RB Dion Lewis

Source: Boston Herald - Jeff Howe

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis has been the focal point of trade conversations with multiple teams since the offseason, according to the Boston Herald's Jeff Howe, who reports some of the discussions occurred as recently as the past week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lewis is buried in the Patriots cluttered backfield, but we can't see any team giving up a lot for him. The Patriots will take a good offer but there's no need to let him go for anything.

CHI - QB Mitchell Trubisky ready if needed

Source: The Associated Press - Gene Chamberlain

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky has the 'it factor,' according to head coach John Fox, and Fox said he would 'feel pretty confident' if Trubisky was forced into action.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It's only a matter of time before Trubisky gets his chance. He's clearly the team's franchise quarterback and quarterback of the future, and the rookie from North Carolina looked good in the preseason. Starter Mike Glennon won't have a lot of room for error if he wants to hang onto the top spot of the team's depth chart.
