NFL Player News - Week of 6/5/17

NYJ - QB Josh McCown has advantage in QB competition

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets QB Josh McCown has an advantage over QBs Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty in the competition for the starting quarterback job because he is familiar with the West Coast offense, according to head coach Todd Bowles. Bowles also said he expects Hackenberg to play at some point.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

His advantage is not only experience, but also because the other two aren't really good. Hackenberg was a second-round pick last year but he was so bad the team didn't turn to him as a rookie. We'll see if that's different this year. Petty is your run-of-the-mill backup quarterback...at best. This situation is one of the worst at the position in the entire league. Don't look for fantasy value from the Jets QBs no matter who wins the job.

KC - WR Demarcus Robinson, WR Albert Wilson could start

    Source: ESPN.com - Adam Teicher

Kansas City Chiefs WRs Demarcus Robinson and Albert Wilson are considered the leading candidates for the starting receiver job opposite WR Chris Conley, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Adam Teicher.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Tyreek Hill is the Chiefs WR to get excited about...not Robinson, Wilson or Conley. We'll watch their status in training camp in deep leagues, but most fantasy players need to concern themselves with the primary pieces of the passing attack in KC - Hill and TE Travis Kelce.

BUF - LeSean McCoy 'recruiting' WR Jeremy Maclin

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Rodak

Free-agent WR Jeremy Maclin (Chiefs) has been getting 'recruited' by Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy - a former teammate with the Philadelphia Eagles - to sign with the Bills.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills could use a talent like Maclin on the roster. They lost Robert Woods (Rams) in free agency, and they don't have a lot of depth behind Sammy Watkins. The Bills have Corey Brown and Andre Holmes behind Watkins, but neither one should be relied on for much. We love the upside of rookie Zay Jones as he's used to being heavily targeted and can consistently produce as a chain-moving WR. Maclin could fit in with the Bills, but the price would have to be right. According to OverTheCap.com the Bills have around $12 million in cap space at this time.

PHI - WR Jordan Matthews slowed by tendinitis

    Source: NJ.com - Matt Lombardo

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (knee) missed the final practice of OTAs last week due to tendinitis in his knee.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Matthews has hit low-end WR2 numbers in his career before (2014, 2015) but last year his play fell off and he finished at WR51. Playing in only 14 games in 2016, Matthews had 73 catches for 804 yards and three touchdowns. This year with Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith added to the passing game, Matthews is clearly locked in as the third option at wide receiver. Add in the signing of RB LeGarrette Blount and you see a team that is looking for balance on offense. Matthews is likely just a WR5 for fantasy owners this year, and he has a current ADP of WR47 (10.08) in 12-team PPR leagues.

ARI - WR John Brown back to old self

    Source: NFL.com - Marc Sessler

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown is back to running routes like he did in 2015, according to head coach Bruce Arians. 'A couple of those routes he ran, he did not run one route like that last year,' Arians said. 'Knock on wood, it stays that way.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brown was limited in 2016 due to sickle cell complications and lingering effects from a concussion. Now healthy, it's not outlandish to expect Brown to at least bounce back to the production he had in 2015 (65 catches, 1,003 yards, and 7 touchdowns.) His current ADP is WR46 (10.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

SEA - RB Eddie Lacy taking steps to keep weight off

Source: The Tacoma News Tribune - Gregg Bell

Seattle Seahawks RB Eddie Lacy is taking part in a P90X 30 day challenge this summer and has a 'nutrition team' whose intent is to help Lacy meet the weight clauses in his contract and keep him at or around the 245-pound mark at coach Pete Carroll wants him to play at during the season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We've heard about Lacy using P90x before and weight problems were still a problem for him after he got off the program. He'll need to show that he can eat the right way in addition to training the right way after this 30-day challenge is done. Lacy had back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons to begin his pro career but he hasn't eclipsed that mark over the last two years. We'll see if a fresh start with Seattle helps.

DEN - Chad Kelly likely to miss workouts

    Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis

Denver Broncos QB Chad Kelly (wrist) likely will not participate in organized team activities this week as well as the upcoming minicamp even though he will have the cast on his wrist removed Monday, June 5. Kelly will have to strengthen the wrist before he can return to the practice field.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kelly is unlikely to play this year for a couple of reasons. 1st) The injured wrist needs to heal, plus he's less than a year removed from a major knee injury. 2nd) The Broncos have Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch to compete for the starting job. Kelly may be a candidate for IR this season, and if neither Siemian or Lynch don't impress in 2017 we could see a door open for Kelly in 2018.

HOU - QB Tom Savage taking advantage of reps

    Source: NFL.com - Nick Shook

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage said taking reps with the first-team offense has been a great opportunity to work on his timing and communication with WR DeAndre Hopkins and the other starters.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Savage has the experience in this QB competition and that should give him at least a slight advantage over rookie first-round pick Deshaun Watson. However, Watson is much more talented and athletic than the big pocket passer Savage. Even if Savage were to win the no1 QB job coming out of training camp, we can't see him playing a full season. Injuries have usually plagued him, and any sort of misstep by him would open the door for Watson. We think Watson could win the job to begin the year, and he's got sneaky fantasy value because of his skill set and the quality players around him on offense. Stay tuned.

KC - QB Alex Smith talks WR Jeremy Maclin

Source: The Kansas City Star - Blair Kerkhoff
Kansas City Chiefs QB Alex Smith said he was expecting free-agent WR Jeremy Maclin (Chiefs) to be his No. 1 receiver again this season and was 'shocked' by Maclin's release. 'For us, we have to move on a roll as a group,' Smith said. 'We obviously wish Jeremy well wherever he lands, and he'll land on his feet.'
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It was certainly a shocking move to both those inside the building and most all of us outside the facility. Maclin was slowed by injury last year and was outplayed by breakout player Tyreek Hill, but he might have been able to bounce back this season if healthy. The possibility that Maclin will never be the speed guy he used to be is there, but his veteran savvy could come in handy with a new team. We think a team like the Eagles, Lions, Patriots or Raiders might be interested.

    Tuesday Update

CAR - QB Cam Newton ahead of schedule

    Source: ESPN.com - David Newton

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) is ahead of schedule with his rehab and expected to throw on the side during Carolina's three-day minicamp next week, according to head coach Ron Rivera. Newton will work directly with trainer Ryan Vermillion, and it is unknown how much he will throw.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Newton had surgery a little later than some would have liked, but all signs point to him being ready by training camp. With the added weapons around him (RB Christian McCaffrey, WR Curtis Samuel), Newton has a better fantasy outlook. After struggling in 2016 and finishing as the no17 fantasy QB, Newton should be able to break back into the top 10 in 2017.

NE - RB Mike Gillislee the favorite to start?

Source: The Boston Globe - Jim McBride

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee appears to be the frontrunner for the Patriots' starting running back job, according to Jim McBride of the Boston Globe, although he is expected to be part of a committee.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This isn't really a question as Gillislee was added to play the LeGarrette Blount role in 2017. That makes him quite fantasy relevant, although duplicating Blount's 18 rushing touchdowns from a year ago will be a tall order. Gillislee has RB2 upside but a low-end RB3 price at this time with a current ADP of RB34 (7.10) in 12-team PPR leagues.

NE - TE Rob Gronkowski has no restrictions

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (back) is 'feeling great' after several weeks on the field and in the gym. He has practiced without restriction.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gronkowski will get back to smashing once the regular season rolls around. Every fantasy owners knows that he's a TE1 when healthy and he's getting drafted at a proper spot. He's going off the board at TE1 (2.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

JAX - RB Chris Ivory continues first-team work

Source: The Florida Times-Union - John Reid

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Chris Ivory continues to run with the first-team offense as rookie RB Leonard Fournette works with the second-team group in organized team activities. While most projections place Fournette in the starting role, with RB T.J. Yeldon as the third-down back, Ivory remains focused on the task at hand. Ivory also noted he will not shy away from helping Fournette learn the ropes. Head coach Doug Marrone stated Fournette will need to earn his spot.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rookie first-round picks have to earn their spots, but everyone under the sun knows Fournette should open the season as the starter. Fournette wasn't much of a pass-catcher in college, but OTA reports indicate he looks comfortable as a receiver out of the backfield. As a three-down back, Fournette has a current ADP of RB12 (2.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

DEN - RB Jamaal Charles takes part in drills

Source: The Denver Post - Nicki Jhabvala

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles (knee) participated in some light drills with the running backs during organized team activities Monday, June 5.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Charles was out there for 1-on-1 drills with the Broncos for the first time this offseason. The team is easing him back into action as he returns from the knee injury that bothered him each of the last two years. Charles feels he can still be "the man" but he's likely going to be the change-of-pace back for the Broncos behind C.J. Anderson.

    CHI - Evaluating Chicago's WRs

Source: Chicago Tribune - Dan Wiederer

Chicago Bears WRs Cameron Meredith (thumb), Kevin White and Markus Wheaton (shoulder) are considered locks to make the 53-man roster, in the opinion of Chicago Tribune writer Dan Wiederer. WRs Victor Cruz, Kendall Wright, Josh Bellamy, Deonte Thompson and Daniel Braverman are considered to be on the bubble. WRs Tanner Gentry, Rueben Randle and Titus Davis are viewed as long shots for the final roster.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Meredith and potentially White have fantasy value, but there's not much else that gets us excited here. Wheaton couldn't stay healthy or impress during his time with the Steelers. Cruz is a great story (and a great dancer) but not a great fantasy asset. We're a bit intrigued by Gentry in super deep dynasty leagues as his 49 targets of 20 yards or more in 2016 led the FBS (per PFF). That's about it really...and don't expect the Bears passing game to light the world on fire no matter if Mike Glennon or Mitchell Trubisky is the starter at quarterback.

GB - WR Jordy Nelson the most effective WR?

    Source: NFL.com

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers had a 117.7 passer rating when targeting WR Jordy Nelson last year, the highest mark for any receiver in the NFL.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

In each of the last two years he's played, Nelson has ranked as the no2 fantasy receiver (2014) and no1 fantasy receiver (2016). Fantasy owners should expect him to perform like a top-5 fantasy WR in 2017. His current ADP is WR6 (1.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

WAS - Rob Kelley talks improvement

Source: The Washington Times - Nora Princiotti

Washington Redskins RB Rob Kelley is focused on elevating his game in the areas of receiving, blocking, making cuts, and breaking longer runs. Kelley, as previously reported, lost weight by improving his diet and building muscle.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Not so fat Rob Kelley in 2017 is what he's aiming for. Washington has a nice collection of RBs in place with Kelley as the starter, Chris Thompson as the change-of-pace back and rookie Samaje Perine to push for the main job. Kelley's new physique could help hold off Perine during training camp.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed has a nose for the end zone

    Source: NFL.com

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed's 17 touchdowns since the start of the 2015 season are the second-most in the NFL among tight ends.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Reed is a big part of Washington's passing attack, and he is even more important this year after the team lost WRs DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon in free agency. Reed is TE3 (4.04) in 12-team PPR drafts right now.

DAL - QB Zac Dysert claimed by Dallas

    Source: DallasCowboys.com - Rob Phillips

Arizona Cardinals QB Zac Dysert was claimed off waivers by the Dallas Cowboys Monday, June 5. The Cowboys also waived QB Austin Appleby.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dysert has a strong arm - no control - and the athleticism to keep plays alive. He's serving as the camp arm for the Cowboys behind starter Dak Prescott and primary backup Kellen Moore.

    Wednesday Update

NYJ - WR Eric Decker no longer in Jets' plans

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

New York Jets WR Eric Decker has been informed that he will either be released or traded this week, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This move has been bandied about, especially after the team moved on from Brandon Marshall, but now it looks like it's going to happen. Any team in need of a solid starter at wide receiver should be interested in Decker. He's got a cap hit of $8.75 million in 2017 with $3 million in dead money.

IND - QB Andrew Luck not throwing yet

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Zak Keefer

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (shoulder) has not yet begun to throw the football again as he continues to recover from shoulder surgery. Luck has yet to participate in organized team activities, although he has worked with the other quarterbacks and helped receivers with routes and timing. Luck will also miss next week's minicamp as the Colts don't want to rush back their star quarterback.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not worried....yet. It's not like Luck needs the OTA practice at this point and it's more than likely that the Colts are just being super-careful with their golden boy. We'll keep watching though. The guy's ADP is 39 overall right now, and he's the fourth quarterback coming off the board. That price may only go up as the season approaches. That being said, you want to know your investment of a high pick is safe. So it's worth keeping an eye on.

DEN - QB Trevor Siemian still besting QB Paxton Lynch

    Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis
Denver Broncos QB Trevor Siemian has had 'more good days overall' than QB Paxton Lynch during organized team activity sessions, by 'all accounts.' Lynch, however, is coming off his best showing thus far in OTAs with his performance Monday, June 5.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lynch has never looked better in a Broncos practice, but for reasons different than what most think. He's already been showing a tendency to connect on deep passes and big 'long bomb' touchdowns. Lynch needs to get better working the short/underneath stuff, and that's what he did effectively on Monday. The 2016 first-round pick was in complete control on the same day that Siemian looked worse than ever before. Even UDFA Kyle Sloter had a better day than Siemian on Monday. That being said, this QB competition is far from being over. The real competition begins in August.

MIA - TE Julius Thomas to be heavily involved?

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins TE Julius Thomas is going to be a big part of the Dolphins' offensive plans in 2017, according to QB Matt Moore.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas had some of his best years under Adam Gase in Denver, but we aren't sure that will translate here. In the early goings his ADP is 158 overall and 17 in tight ends, which means the general public feels hesitant about it as well. Right now we like his value, and his upside, but caution is the word.

PHI - WR Jordan Matthews remains sidelined

    Source: ESPN.com - Tim McManus

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (knee) did not participate in organized team activities Monday, June 5, because of knee tendinitis.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A concerning note here since Matthews has a history of nagging injuries slowing him down. It's June, and there's plenty of time to get healthy but just keep an eye on his health status. From a fantasy lens, Matthews value has taken a hit with the additions of WRs Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith in free agency.

GB - QB Aaron Rodgers not worried about contract

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers said his impending contract will take care of itself, adding that he's not worried about not being the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL. Rodgers said he's going to continue to make himself an 'indispensable' part of the Packers' roster. 'When you do that, when your time comes up to get a contract, you usually get a contract extension.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's no way that Rodgers goes anywhere anytime soon. His contract situation won't be an issue either, and across the board he is considered one of if not the top fantasy quarterback for 2017. His ADP is 21 overall and first overall at his position. If his receivers are healthy, that's deserved.

LAC - Mike Williams out for offseason program

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Los Angeles Chargers WR Mike Williams (back) will be held out for the remainder of the offseason program as he recovers from a disc injury in his back, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's a huge disappointment, but at least he'll be back in time for camp. They may handle him with kid gloves, though, and even if they don't the missed time is likely to hinder his development during his rookie year. While a decent dynasty pick and a good rookie pick, we expect his numbers to be limited this season. On top of that, given how often Keenan Allen is hurt, and the fact that Williams was brought in to mitigate that, it can't make the Chargers happy he's banged up.

CLE - WR Jeremy Maclin of interest to Browns

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Free-agent WR Jeremy Maclin (Chiefs) has drawn interest from the Cleveland Browns, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Browns could do worse than add a talent like Maclin, though his production really fell off the last few years. He's being drafted with an ADP of 121 overall, and the 46th receiver off the board. We don't know the needle will move much with the dearth of quarterback talent in Cleveland though.

ATL - WR Julio Jones feels fine after jogging

Source: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution - D. Orlando Ledbetter

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (foot) said he felt fine after jogging Tuesday, June 6. Jones is recovering from offseason foot surgery but is expected to be ready for training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones should be one of the top fantasy receivers again this year, and we're not worried about his foot right now even though he had had surgery to repair a bunion on his foot that had been an issue. We see no reason why he won't be a menace in fantasy leagues and on an NFL field again this season.

TEN - QB Marcus Mariota practicing more

    Source: ESPN.com - Paul Kuharsky

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (leg) participated in full team snaps at organized team activities Tuesday, June 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The expectation is he will be ready for camp, so this is about where we expect him to be. The real test will be when he gets hit - fully and with aggressive force, not by a teammate - and how he reacts. Some athletes get tentative, while some seem as if they are exactly the same as they were pre-injury. Mariota's ADP is hovering at 100 overall and the 13th quarterback taken. While he has the talent to be one of the top fantasy quarterbacks, his injury and some changes around him may hamper his overall effectiveness this year.

MIA - WR Jarvis Landry a decent bet to sign new deal

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry is entering the final season of his four-year rookie contract, and the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero believes there is a 60 percent chance Landry will sign an extension prior to the start of the season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We almost prefer him in a contract year, as that tends to motivate guys. Maybe it's unfair to paint him with a broad brush, but we've seen enough guys take their foot off the gas after a big payday to worry. He's in a great position to succeed with a lot of weapons around to take attention from him, but his touchdown totals are always really low and we expect them to remain so. Currently sitting at an ADP of 37 overall, and 19 at his position, clearly he is still highly valued.

BAL - WR Jeremy Maclin to visit Ravens

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent WR Jeremy Maclin (Chiefs) has plans to visit the Baltimore Ravens Wednesday, June 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Maclin has a couple of teams interested (Bills, Ravens) and there could be more. The Ravens don't have much behind Mike Wallace in terms of proven talent. Maclin may not be the speed merchant he once was, but he could be added and become a favorite target for QB Joe Flacco.

BUF - WR Jeremy Maclin to visit Bills

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent WR Jeremy Maclin (Chiefs) will visit the Buffalo Bills Tuesday, June 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bills superstar running back LeSean McCoy has apparently been recruiting Maclin hard. The team does have a need at the position as there's really not much experienced talent behind Sammy Watkins. We like rookie Zay Jones, but he's currently week-to-week with a knee injury he suffered in OTAs. Maclin could step in and immediately give the team a valuable veteran presence.

    Thursday Update

BAL - TE Dennis Pitta waived/injured

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson
Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) was waived/injured Wednesday, June 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's likely a wrap for his pro career. Hip injuries kept him from staying on the field, but Pitta fought back hard to get back in 2016 and had a great season with 86 catches. The Ravens clear up $2.5 million in cap space with this move and could be in the market for guys like WR Jeremy Maclin or WR Eric Decker.

NYG - Odell Beckham seeking new deal

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr.'s absence at organized activities, though no one in his camp has admitted it, is directly related to his desire for a new contract, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's not a holdout until mandatory work is missed. These OTAs are voluntary so it's not a really big deal...yet. Beckham has a cap hit of $3.3 million in 2017, and he's under contract through 2018 at a tremendous value as he's still on his rookie deal. His current average annual salary ($2.6 million) ranks 59th in the NFL at the WR position per Spotrac.com. Which means he's ridiculously under paid.

New England Patriots WR Brandin Cooks has been one of the breakout performers during minicamp this week and his speed has set him apart from his teammates, in the opinion of the Boston Herald's Jeff Howe.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cooks will add a dimension to a pass offense that was already very difficult to slow down. His fantasy ceiling isn't as high as it was in New Orleans because of the myriad of options in New England, but he is still a high weekly ceiling WR2 and he certainly enhances the value of Tom Brady.

MIA - OC optimistic about TE Julius Thomas

    Source: ESPN.com - James Walker

Miami Dolphins TE Julius Thomas has the chance to be a 10-touchdoown player if he can stay healthy, according to offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas is back with Adam Gase, and he could be a valuable fantasy asset once again in this offense. He was a fantasy favorite working with Gase in Denver, and Thomas could improve upon the production he had in two years with Jacksonville. Thomas just needs to stay healthy as the fourth-round pick in 2011 has never played a full 16-game season as a pro. Projecting him for around 40 catches and 5-7 touchdowns is not out of the question.

ARI - WR Andre Ellington going back to RB

Source: The Arizona Republic - Kent Somers

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington is moving back to running back, and the team will be looking for him to have a tougher running style, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Well that didn't last long. Ellington was moved to wide receiver this offseason to make the most of his quickness, agility and speed in the open field. When John Brown is healthy, Jaron Brown as the no3 wideout and rookie Chad Williams impressing, Ellington gets moved back to the backfield. Having a tougher runner style just isn't in his DNA, and Ellington should only be used in space.

BAL - Baltimore will meet with WR Jeremy Maclin

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent WR Jeremy Maclin (Chiefs) is scheduled to meet with the Baltimore Ravens after finishing his meeting with the Buffalo Bills, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Maclin has a few suitors out there including the Ravens and the Bills. There's not much proven talent behind Mike Wallace at the WR position in Baltimore. Adding Maclin would make sense as he could start and become a reliable target for QB Joe Flacco.

Free-agent WR Jeremy Maclin (Chiefs) has finished his visit with the Buffalo Bills Wednesday, June 7, and is scheduled to meet with the Baltimore Ravens next, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
He's leaving with options as Maclin is scheduled to visit with the Ravens. The Bills could use some proven talent behind Sammy Watkins, and Maclin would likely be an upgrade over guys they added earlier this offseason like Corey Brown and Andre Holmes.

TB - QB Jameis Winston great with tight ends

Source: Florida Football Insiders - Roy Cummings

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston has the fifth-best passer rating when targeting tight ends since he entered the league three years ago, according to Pro Football Focus. However, he is third-worst in the league when targeting other positions.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That was the way Winston was in college at Florida State. During his final season with the Seminoles, Winston targeted the TE position more than any other QB in the FBS. He's still heavily targeting the position now in the pros. We'll see if Winston creates great chemistry with rookie TE O.J. Howard. Many saw Howard as the best TE in this rich TE class, and he's got the physical traits that could make him a special player for the Buccaneers.

WAS - QB Kirk Cousins talks pick up

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins has had encouraging contract talks recently, which owner Daniel Snyder has gotten involved in, and he expressed an interest in re-signing Cousins.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Talks may have been more positive lately, but that's because they were so frosty (and basically non-existent) before this offseason. Cousins representation has met with team president Bruce Allen twice in 2017, and that marks the first time they've sat down to talk since Cousins was first slapped with the franchise tag two years ago. There is belief that even if a deal isn't completed by the July 15 franchise tag deadline, one could be completed after the season.

CLE - QB Brock Osweiler impressing

Cleveland Browns QB Brock Osweiler has impressed in organized team activities, and one player privately predicted Osweiler would be the starter heading into camp in July.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's...interesting, but there's a long way to go before the start of the regular season. Osweiler has more experience than Cody Kessler and he's got a stronger arm too. Even if he wins the job, we don't see any of the Cleveland QBs as viable fantasy options.

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
Updating a previous report, New York Jets WR Eric Decker is healthy following offseason hip and shoulder surgeries.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That means the team can trade him away. Decker is a weapon when healthy. He's got reliable hands, runs good routes and can be consistent in the red zone. Decker should have more than a few suitors, either as a trade target or when the Jets release him.

NYG - RB Paul Perkins may be three-down back

    Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants RB Paul Perkins has the skills to become a three-down running back, according to running backs coach Craig Johnson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Giants lack of moves at running back jive with this stance on Perkins, who is still only a mid-round pick in early drafts. Shane Vereen will get some passing down work and rookie Wayne Gallman is a good fit for a shotgun offense, but Perkins will get first crack at this job and if he is as good as the Giants think he is, he'll be a value pick.

ARI - WR John Brown dealing with injuries

Source: NFL Network - Omar Ruiz

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown (hamstring) is dealing with a hamstring injury, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Brown's 2016 was marred with injuries and medical conditions. Hopefully this isn't related to the sickle cell trait that affected his hamstring last year. All of the news had been positive on Brown this offseason until this, so the comeback hype train should slow down a bit. Jaron Brown and JJ Nelson would get first crack at any snaps Brown gives up while he's sidelined, with rookie third-round pick Chad Williams also potentially on the fast track to playing time.

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky has been running the second-team offense since QB Mark Sanchez (knee) injured his knee last week. With Sanchez not expected back until training camp, Trubisky is set to continue in the role during next week's mandatory minicamp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The rookie first-round pick should see a lot of action with the second team while Sanchez recovers. By the time Sanchez is back, Trubisky may have the primary backup role behind Mike Glennon sewed up.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

I guess it never hurts to ask. But it seems unlikely Smith would want to come back and play for the Jets. They're likely going to tank this year and going 6-10 is probably a pipe dream. If Smith were to return (seems doubtful) it would be for a Super Bowl contender.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Julian Edelman's two-year extension is worth $11 million, and includes $9 million in "total" guarantees. This is a good deal for both sides. Edelman gets the security every player wants and the Patriots get him at a discount.

TEN - RB DeMarco Murray wearing a cast

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray (hand) was sporting a cast on his hand Thursday, June 8, after undergoing a procedure, but head coach Mike Mularkey expects Murray to be good to go by training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll keep an eye on this. While the rumor has been that Derrick Henry will get some more carries this year, as long as Murray is healthy and effective, we expect him to continue being the lead back in Tennessee. He'll be one of the top backs in fantasy this year, and the community knows it since he's trending with an ADP of 17 overall and is currently the No. 8 running back off the board.

ATL - WR Julio Jones may be used more in red zone

    Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones could be utilized more in the red zone this season with new offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian calling the shots. 'When you have a playmaker like Julio, it's making sure we maximize his opportunities because there is so much double-coverage, there are so many unique coverages that roll his way that when we don't get that, let's make sure he's one of the primary receivers on that play because it is such a tough matchup for anybody one on one.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Even though he is coming off bunion surgery, Jones is going to be one of the first receivers (and players) off the board in fantasy drafts. If there is a flaw in his game, it's that he's only reached double digits touchdowns once in his career. Getting more touchdowns would be huge for his value, and while we have to see it to believe it, we're excited for the prospect.

NO - RB Adrian Peterson wants five more years

Source: The New Orleans Advocate - Nick Underhill

New Orleans Saints RB Adrian Peterson said he wants to play until age 37 or 38.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We want to be the King of England. It's likely neither wish will come true, barring the possibility that Peterson plans on joining a beer-league flag football group or we start working at Medieval Times. Even then, we'd have to start at busboy and work our way up. Peterson looked awful even before his injury last year and while some of that might have been the tragicomedy that passes for a Vikings offensive line, a lot of it was him. Right now he's tracking at an ADP of 26 which seems just a bit rich for us, and 73 overall, which feels the same. In an offense which throws a lot and is an RBBC, we think his impact will be minimal.

KC - WR Tyreek Hill to get first dibs at 'Z' spot

Source: The Kansas City Star - Terez A. Paylor

Kansas City Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill will 'likely' get the first crack at replacing free-agent WR Jeremy Maclin (Chiefs) at the 'Z' position, the spotlight receiver spot in head coach Andy Reid's West Coast offense.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

In his first year, Hill was the No. 15 fantasy receiver in 2016. His combined yardage production as a hybrid runner-receiver opened things up for the Chiefs and they embraced a creative side of their offense to utilize and maximize him. He's currently coming off the board as the 25th wide receiver and the 58th player taken over all. You have to weight the price tag, but the upside is tempting.

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (leg) is not expected to be limited once training camp begins.

MIN - RB Latavius Murray to begin running soon

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Andrew Krammer

Minnesota Vikings RB Latavius Murray (ankle) is out of his walking boot and is expected to begin running unassisted in about a week. Murray said he feels great and that already dealing with the same surgery earlier in his career has helped his rehabilitation. The newly acquired running back anticipates being ready for training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If the Vikings can produce an offensive line, Murray could be very good. However, that line is an issue and people underestimate how good the one he ran behind in Oakland really was. Right now we're cool on him, injury or not, and he's only at an ADP of 85 overall, and as the No. 30 running back. That plants him rather firmly at the cusp of RB3 and RB4.

BAL - WR Jeremy Maclin taking his time

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

Free-agent WR Jeremy Maclin (Chiefs) left his visit with the Baltimore Ravens without a contract Thursday, June 8. Head coach John Harbaugh said Maclin wants some time to make a decision.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Maclin is coming off a down 2016 during which he had injury issues, but he should be able to land somewhere and is just a season away from back to back 1,000 yard years. Fit is critical, and we do like what he could bring to Baltimore.

TEN - WR Tajae Sharpe had foot surgery

    Source: TitansOnline.com

Tennessee Titans WR Tajae Sharpe (foot) suffered a foot injury last week and underwent surgery. He is expected to be ready for training camp, however, according to head coach Mike Mularkey.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Expectations are pretty low for Sharpe in 2017 with Ridshard Matthews, rookie Corey Davis, and Taywan Taylor ahead of him. He's going to have a hard time breaking into the rotation on a consistent basis.

MIN - Teddy Brigdewater timetable remains unknown

Source: St. Paul Pioneer Press - Chris Tomasson
Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater's (knee) return is still unknown at this point due to the severity of his injuries, according to general manager Rick Spielman.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We still think there is a huge chance that Bridgewater starts off on the PUP list and is preserved as long as possible to keep the team from having to use his fifth year option. Then they can keep him cheap next season when he is a year plus beyond his injury and the team has been improved around him. Consider also that it's unlikely the Vikings will want to pay the $17 million owed Sam Bradford in 2018.

GB - WR Randall Cobb to see more touches?

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb will receive more touches this season if head coach Mike McCarthy gets his way. Wide receivers coach Luke Getsy agrees. 'When you have a guy like him that's so dynamic with the football in his hands... you've got to get him the football,' Getsy said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Injuries limited Cobb's effectiveness last season, and he never seemed to quite get his feet under him. We'd like to see him bounce back to where he was at the previous two seasons, though the 1,287 yards of 2014 is likely a bit too far a reach. We think, and his ADP of 93 (38 for wide receivers) backs us up, he'll be better but not break any record books.

PHI - WR Jordan Matthews could play if needed

Source: Philadelphia Daily News - Les Bowen

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (knee) could play if this were the regular season, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Matthews is moving back to the slot with Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith in the offense now, and he's a better fit there. While he may be more effective, his ceiling will depend on how much the Eagles throw and how Carson Wentz develops. He's tracking as the No. 45 receiver off the board and the 109 overall player in terms of ADP, which is about where we think he belongs.

BUF - WR Sammy Watkins to be limited

    Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) will be limited in practice Thursday, June 8.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We know they're being cautious but seriously, when is Watkins not hurt? The upside for him is great, even if he isn't all that healthy. He continually produces when he's on the field. He's just been off it too frequently the last two years. He's going as the No. 30 player off the board and is the 15th receiver taken in drafts right now, based on the upside, but he is a bit risky right now. We're hoping to see him fully healthy before the season.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker showing more consistency

Source: Palm Beach Post - Joe Schad

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker is showing more consistency during organized team activities, according to offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen. 'He's run fast every day where last year it was kind of up and down,' Christensen said. 'One day you'd think you had a Hall of Famer and the next you weren't sure if he was going to make it to the game. Just his health and staying consistent. I think his routine and how fast he's played has been really, really different from last year.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Parker was supposed to be a break out star for the Dolphins in Adam Gase's offense, but that didn't happen. Yes, Parker saw a lot more target (38 more than 2015) and that translated into 56 receptions and almost double his 2015 yardage total. He only broke 100 yards once, though, and there were eight games when he didn't even top 50. He was wildly inconsistent and unless that changes he won't every hit his fantasy potential.

MIA - WR Jarvis Landry not focused enough?

Source: The Miami Herald - Adam H. Beasley

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry must 'zero in' on the small details of the game that kept the Dolphins from 'clicking' last year, according to The Miami Herald's Adam Beasley. Head coach Adam Gase has been pleased with how consistent Landry has been practicing and doing the little things. 'When he's rolling he was today, you just keep trying to find ways to get him the ball,' Gase said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gase has high expectations for Landry, and that's not a bad thing. There were six games last year where Landry had fewer than five catches. Being more consistent will come from those small details.

KC - WR Chris Conley pegged for WR2 role

Source: The Kansas City Star - Terez A. Paylor
Kansas City Chiefs WR Chris Conley will play the 'X' receiver, which is a possession receiver role in head coach Andy Reid's offense. Conley said he has moved around the last two practices and played some of the 'Z' receiver role.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
While he could be the No. 2 receiver in terms of position, Conley has a lot of other people ahead of him in the pecking order. Tyreek Hill is the top dog here along with Travis Kelce. Everyone else is just fighting over scraps and until we see how that shakes out, value is at a minimum.

    Saturday Update

IND - QB Andrew Luck healing well

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Wells

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (shoulder) is healing well, and he's still expected to be ready for the season, according to owner Jim Irsay. 'He was really struggling going through the process of being ready to play (each week last season),' Irsay said. 'This was, quite frankly, not that complicated of a surgery. This was a simple labrum repair. There are a lot of other things that could have been involved with this surgery that weren't.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The first rule of any news story is "consider the source". This is Jim Irsay talking. Meaning we don't put a lot into this. To be fair though, most all reports have been positive about Luck, but expect the team to take it easy on their superstar quarterback as they prepare him for the rigors of the 2017 season. If healthy, Luck can easily be a QB1 for fantasy owners and perhaps lead the Colts to the playoffs. But understand he's got some healing to do.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Beckham missed voluntary workouts and reports indicate it was because of his contract situation. Seriously underpaid for 2017, Beckham is on the books for $3.3 million this year. He's under contract through 2018 due to the fifth-year option for first-round picks. The Giants should be working diligently to find a new contract that makes both happy. If he misses all three days of mandatory minicamp, it would cost Beckham roughly $80,000.

NYJ - QB Christian Hackenberg to start sooner than later?

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

At least 10 games means the Jets are basically tanking this year. Hackenberg is no long-term answer at the position, and we predict the Jets will be looking at a quarterback in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft (Sam Darnold USC, Josh Allen Wyoming, Josh Rosen UCLA, etc).

WAS - Big season coming for WR Terrelle Pryor?

Washington Redskins WR Terrelle Pryor has a chance to reach 1,500 receiving yards as the go-to target for QB Kirk Cousins, according to NFL.com analyst Gil Brandt.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The best may be yet to come with Pryor. The converted quarterback had a breakthrough season last year for the Browns, finishing with 77 catches for 1,007 yards and four touchdowns. With DeSean Jackson (Buccaneers) and Pierre Garcon (49ers) moving on in free agency, Pryor is now the top wideout for Washington in his first year with the team. Both Jackson (100) and Garcon (114) hit the century mark in terms of targets in 2016, so expect Pryor to be targeted in a similar manner. He's used to a heavy target load as Pryor was thrown 141 passes last year for the Browns.

He received a $5 million signing bonus, a $3 million salary in 2017 with a $750,000 roster bonus ($46,875 per game), a $250,000 workout bonus and $500,000 in incentives. In 2018, his $2 million base salary is fully guaranteed with a $500,000 workout bonus, $500,000 roster bonus and $500,000 in incentives. In 2019, his $2 million salary is guaranteed for injury with a $500,000 workout bonus, $500,000 roster bonus and $3.5 million in incentives.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The twice torn triceps held him to just five games last year. Vereen is the pass-catching back for this team, but it will be interesting to see how touches are split in a three-way RBBC. Paul Perkins and rookie Wayne Gallman should serve as the primary ball-carriers in 2017.

New England Patriots WR Brandin Cooks is lining up everywhere on the field for the team, and he caught a team-high eight passes during a three-day minicamp this week. Cooks finishes every single route, regardless of how quickly the ball is delivered, and he flashes his hands at the end of the route to simulate the timing of the throw, according to S Devin McCourty.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With 1,100 yards receiving in back-to-back years, Cooks may be in for a larger total this year with his new team. He's catching everything thrown his way, and Cooks seems to have instant chemistry with QB Tom Brady. That's not the case for every free agent WR (see Chad Johnson, etc) that ends up with the Patriots. Cooks has a current ADP of WR12 (2.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

DAL - Ryan Switzer working with WR Dez Bryant

Source: The Dallas Morning News - Jori Epstein

Dallas Cowboys WR Ryan Switzer said WR Dez Bryant is his go-to guy for advice, and he is trying to emulate Bryant's ability to pull down contested catches.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Switzer plays more like Wes Welker than he does Bryant, but we appreciate the rookie's willingness to learn. As a small receiver, Switzer does struggle at times with contested catches. On the upside, he's a producer. Exactly 50 percent of Switzer's 96 catches last year went for first downs or touchdowns. The kid can move the chains and get open with separation. The rookie from North Carolina is buried on the depth chart, but we appreciate his value in dynasty leagues.

    Sunday Update

NYJ - WR Eric Decker may stick around a bit longer

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

New York Jets WR Eric Decker may stay with the Jets a little bit longer. He was originally scheduled to be released or traded early in the week, but speculation is the team is waiting to see where WR Jeremy Maclin ends up before making any moves.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Maclin on the open market does cloud the interest in Decker. It looks like Maclin could end up in Buffalo and Decker could go to Baltimore. Stay tuned.

BUF - Buffalo could pursue TE Gary Barnidge

    Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Free-agent TE Gary Barnidge (Browns) could be an option for the Buffalo Bills if he is willing to accept the veteran minimum, in the opinion of BuffaloBills.com's Chris Brown.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Starting tight end Charles Clay made it through 15 games last year but he's got chronic knee problems. Coach Sean McDermott said the Bills are "concerned with Charles (Clay's) knee situation." They'll take it easy on Clay and have their eye out for talent at the position that could help. Barnidge is a big-bodied receiver who would be an upgrade over Nick O'Leary or Logan Thomas.

JAX - RB Chris Ivory should be ready for minicamp

    Source: The Florida Times-Union - Ryan O'Halloran

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Chris Ivory (undisclosed) missed some practice time this week because of an undisclosed injury but participated in practice Friday, June 9, and should be a full participant during the mandatory minicamp next week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ivory is going to work as a reserve behind projected starter Leonard Fournette. The rookie from LSU has superstar upside, but Ivory could work in to give him a breather from time to time. Jaguars RB T.J. Yeldon (undisclosed) is expected to miss the mandatory minicamp next week because of an undisclosed injury.

NYJ - TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins impresses

Source: NJ Advance Media - Connor Hughes

New York Jets TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins was the most impressive player on the field during OTAs, according to beat writer Connor Hughes.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's not saying much given the current state of the Jets roster. Seferian-Jenkins has always been a bit of a tease. The natural talent is there, but concentration problems and injuries have prevented him from playing up to his potential. We don't plan on him doing that with the Jets this year.

CIN - Joe Mixon drops weight

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Jim Owczarski

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon has dropped 10 pounds since the rookie minicamp and currently weighs 228 pounds.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Mixon is just getting into football shape, and there's a chance he could drop more weight as the season goes on. He was listed at 226 pounds coming out of Oklahoma. A second-round pick due to off-field issues, Mixon has first-round talent and could become a superstar at the pro level. He'll begin the year competing with Jeremy Hill for the starting job with the Bengals. Mixon is a complete back and a weapon...simply put he's more talented than Hill and that will win out eventually. Expect him to get a heavy dose of touches in this offense from the get go.

WAS - WR Josh Doctson showing his skills

    Source: CSNMidAtlantic.com - Rich Tandler

Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson has been impressing the coaching staff with his catch radius during OTAs.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Doctson had an impressive skill set coming out of TCU as a first-round pick in 2016. An Achilles' injury limited him to only two games as a rookie, but he's working his way back. Doctson not only has a large catch radius because of his size/athleticism but he also has strong hands and can rip away contested catches from a defender. We could see him catching 50 or so passes for fantasy owners this year.

TEN - Corey Davis headed for 1,000 yards?

    Source: NFL.com - Gil Brandt

Tennessee Titans WR Corey Davis has the tools to become the No. 1 target for QB Marcus Mariota this season, according to NFL.com analyst Gil Brandt, and Brandt believes Davis could become the first Tennessee receiver to top 1,000 yards since 2013.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Davis certainly has the ability to take on a heavy target load. He had outstanding four-year production in college at Western Michigan, finishing his college career as the all-time leader in receiving yards (5,285) at the FBS level. He's a crisp route-runner who plays with elite concentration. Expect the top-5 pick to quickly become a favorite of QB Marcus Mariota.

    ATL - Deante Burton impressive

Source: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution - D. Orlando Ledbetter

Atlanta Falcons WR Deante Burton performed well during the rookie minicamp and offseason workouts.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Undrafted out of Kansas State in 2017, Burton can make deep passes seem routine at 6'2" 205 pounds. He adjusts well to passes thrown behind him and can be a reliable chain-mover. Keep an eye on him in super deep dynasty leagues.

BUF - Zay Jones fine with Jeremy Maclin interest

Source: The Buffalo News - Vic Carucci

Buffalo Bills WR Zay Jones said he has no problems with the team's interest in free-agent WR Jeremy Maclin (Chiefs) and would like to learn from Maclin if he signs with the Bills.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The rookie would not have a problem with any sort of addition like that. Jones was one of the most productive players at his position to come out this year, and he's got fine upside himself once he gets used to the pro game. The Bills could use Maclin now as he could immediately contribute as a starter opposite Sammy Watkins. Jones is competing with guys like Corey Brown and Andre Holmes for snaps/targets behind Watkins at this time.

NO - RB Travaris Cadet could be moved

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

The New Orleans Saints are looking into the possibility of trading RB Travaris Cadet before training camp, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Saints are absolutely stacked in the backfield right now. They've got Mark Ingram and Adrian Peterson as the top two backs with talented rookie Alvin Kamara as a developmental prospect behind them. Add in all-purpose guy Daniel Lasco and you can see how it's cramped for Cadet. We can't imagine the phone lines burning up for Cadet's services, but he may be on the trade block nonetheless.

    LAR - Cooper Kupp signed

Source: Los Angeles Times - Gary Klein

Los Angeles Rams third-round draft choice WR Cooper Kupp signed his four-year rookie contract Friday, June 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Eastern Washington prospect has intriguing upside and Jarvis Landry/Eric Decker-like ability. He can cut a rug and gets open with clean routes and burst to separate. Kupp grew up idolizing Larry Fitzgerald and the rookie mimics him in the way his passes are caught -- snaring them from the sky. Crisp routes and good hands are the hallmark of Kupp's game, plus he can also track passes well over his shoulder. He'll work into the mix as the no3 wideout for the Rams behind Robert Woods and Tavon Austin in 2017.

    LAR - Gerald Everett signed

Source: Los Angeles Times - Gary Klein

Los Angeles Rams second-round draft choice TE Gerald Everett signed his four-year rookie contract Friday, June 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Everett has all the tools scouts want in a pass-catching tight end. He's got the speed and athleticism to work all three levels of the field. Everett is not a great route-runner but he does a good job of using his frame to box out defenders and make contested catches. Everett averaged 11.38 yards after catch per reception in 2016, a mark that ranked second in the FBS. The rookie will compete with Tyler Higbee for the starting tight end job with the Rams in 2017.

LAR - WR Mike Thomas eyeing big role

    Source: ESPN.com - Alden Gonzalez

Los Angeles Rams WR Mike Thomas has been seeing most of the first-team reps in place of WR Tavon Austin (wrist) during OTAs, and Thomas said he believes the coaching staff understands the potential he brings to the offense.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A sixth-round pick out of Southern Miss in 2016, Thomas is known as a great competitor. He can make plays against larger cornerbacks with his body control, concentration and aggressiveness as a pass-catcher. We'll see where he ends up on the depth chart when Austin is back and healthy.

ATL - WR Justin Hardy to see opportunities

    Source: AtlantaFalcons.com - Kelsey Conway

Atlanta Falcons WR Justin Hardy will be 'one of those guys to get big time opportunities,' according to wide receivers coach Raheem Morris.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hardy's role is pretty much set for 2017. He's caught 21 passes in each of the last two years, and that's a good number to project him at for this year. Hardy is fourth on the depth chart behind Julio Jones, Mohamed Sanu and Taylor Gabriel.

WAS - RB Keith Marshall's spot in jeopardy

    Source: CSNMidAtlantic.com - Rich Tandler

Washington Redskins RB Keith Marshall is facing an uphill climb to make the roster, according to Rich Tandler of CSNMidAtlantic.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With the addition of Samaje Perine in the 2017 NFL draft, Washington is flush at the position. Rob Kelley should be the lead back, but Perine is going to push him for touches as a runner. Chris Thompson will work as the primary pass-catching back. That doesn't leave much for Marshall if he makes the 53-man roster. He's a lottery ticket addition in super deep dynasty leagues but that's it.

WAS - TE Niles Paul competing for spot

    Source: CSNMidAtlantic.com - Rich Tandler

Washington Redskins TE Niles Paul is likely fighting for a roster spot after TE Jeremy Sprinkle was drafted in April.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The language of the NFL is money, and Washington can save $1.9 million from cutting Paul. He's only played in eight games over the last two years (0 in 2015) due to injury. Sprinkle is a classic "Y" tight end with the size to be a good in-line blocker for Washington.

MIN - Minnesota not pursuing WR Eric Decker

Source: St. Paul Pioneer Press - Chris Tomasson

New York Jets WR Eric Decker is not likely to be pursued by the Minnesota Vikings, according to general manager Rick Spielman. 'We always look at everybody that is released, but we feel pretty confident with our receiving corps right now,' Spielman said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Vikings are already flush with talent and potential on the depth chart at wide receiver. They've got guys like Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen, Laquon Treadwell, Jarius Wright, and Michael Floyd just to begin with. Sure, Decker has valuable veteran experience and could play a large role for them but it sounds like they're set on seeing what their guys can do. We expect Decker to end up with the Ravens.

CAR - Curtis Samuel to wear many hats?

    Source: NFL.com - Gil Brandt

Carolina Panthers WR Curtis Samuel will establish himself as one of Carolina's best receivers, according to NFL.com analyst Gil Brandt, and Brandt believes Samuel could have a Percy-Harvin-type impact as a rookie.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's what the team drafted him for. The second-round pick can line up at wide receiver or running back and can be used as a weapon all over the field. The ability to one day be a WR2/WR3 for fantasy owners is there, but a year of transition at the pro level may be necessary. Consider the talented rookie a boom/bust pick at the end of your draft (current ADP of WR70 14.05 in 12-team PPR leagues).

SEA - WR Tyler Lockett limited in OTAs

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett (leg) was limited to a few early drills during OTAs Friday, June 9.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No hurries, no worries here with Lockett. The talent is there, but Lockett needs to stay healthy to play up to his potential in 2017. Lockett suffered a broken tibia and fibula on December 24, 2016 and had surgery soon after to repair the injuries. He said he expects to be ready for training camp. If at full strength, Lockett is a WR4/WR5 with flex appeal for fantasy owners.

SEA - RB C.J. Prosise up to speed

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta
Seattle Seahawks RB C.J. Prosise (shoulder) has been a full participant during OTAs.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Good news for the change-of-pace back here. In his second pro season, we should continue to see Prosise mixed in on passing downs so long as he's healthy. Eddie Lacy will be the lead back, but Prosise has the ability to catch 30-ish passes in 2017.
