NFL Player News - Super Bowl Week

SF - San Francisco to name John Lynch GM

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

The San Francisco 49ers will hire retired SS John Lynch as general manager, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wow! Talk about your surprising moves, no beat writer around the team was mentioning Lynch as a candidate for 49ers general manager. After 15 years in the NFL, Lynch retired in 2008 and has been a color analyst with FOX ever since. We love this out of the box thinking, but let's hope Lynch can put more experienced personnel men around him. He has no experience running a team or officially evaluating talent.

ATL - More to ATL offense than WR Julio Jones

    Source: SI.com - Peter King

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones had less than 40 receiving yards in six games this year, and the Falcons went 6-0 in those games and averaged 37 points.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan has done a fantastic job with setting up the offense to spread the ball around. The Falcons can lean on Jones as he's a superstar talent. However, they can go to several different options if a team focuses on taking Jones away.

IND - Chris Ballard named new GM

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

The Indianapolis Colts hired Chris Ballard, previously the Kansas City Chiefs director for player personnel, as their new general manager.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ballard is a long-time scout with a keen eye for talent. He's going to keep head coach Chuck Pagano for now, but many expect him to bring Chiefs assistant Dave Toub (special teams) on board as early as 2018. Ballard will be tasked with putting better talent around (and in front of) QB Andrew Luck.

PIT - WR Antonio Brown not long for Pittsburgh?

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ed Bouchette

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown is about to enter the final season of a six-year contract he signed in 2012. However, his antics are reportedly 'wearing thin' on some of his teammates and coaches. One week after live streaming head coach Mike Tomlin's postgame speech after the Steelers' Divisional Round over the Kansas City Chiefs, he drew criticism from Ben Roethlisberger for pouting about not getting the ball enough in the AFC Championship loss to the New England Patriots.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This report is coming from long-time Steelers beat writer Ed Bouchette, so we're taking it very seriously. Brown is arguably the best receiver in Steelers history, but the season didn't end well for him. We'll see if the Steelers can patch things up with Brown and work on a new long-term deal. Stay tuned here.

NFL - Nate Peterman wraps up strong Senior Bowl

    Source: DraftWire - Luke Easterling

Pittsburgh QB Nate Peterman followed a strong string of practices by completing 16 of his 23 passes for 153 yards and a touchdown in the Senior Bowl Saturday, Jan. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Peterman was the best quarterback in Mobile this year. He showed tremendous pass placement, accuracy and willingness to challenge a defense vertically. Peterman is likely a fourth-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

NFL - Kareem Hunt wows in Senior Bowl

    Source: DraftWire - Luke Easterling

Toldeo RB Kareem Hunt ran 15 times for a game-high 118 yards in the Senior Bowl Saturday, Jan. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hunt measured in a bit lighter than some expected at 208 pounds. He broke off a 43-yard run in the Senior Bowl to boost his total for the day. Hunt is a mid-round pick with the all-purpose ability to help a team as a runner or receiver out of the backfield.

NFL - Ryan Switzer opens eyes

    Source: DraftWire - Cole Thompson

North Carolina WR Ryan Switzer's 5-8 frame will likely play in the slot in the NFL, but he was able to make plays on the outside during Senior Bowl practice and showed smooth transition out of his breaks.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Switzer is incredibly fast, has great foot frequency and can change direction on a dime. He'd be a fine slot receiver, but his small catch radius is a concern. If a pass is not right on the money, Switzer may have trouble reeling it in.

NFL - Matt Dayes carving out role

    Source: DraftWire - Cole Thompson

North Carolina State RB Matt Dayes showed potential as a third-down back in Senior Bowl practices, performing well in pass protection and making things happen when pass plays broke down.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dayes ran with urgency during the week of practice for the Senior Bowl. He showed well as a receiver out of the backfield and came away making positive impressions.

    NFL - Mitch Trubisky's height a concern?

    Source:

North Carolina QB Mitch Trubisky is listed at 6-3, but NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock believes Trubisky will measure around 6-1 at the NFL Scouting Combine. In the last 15 years, only two quarterbacks 6-1 or shorter have been drafted in the first round.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Didn't Russell Wilson teach us not to get overly excited about height? Trubisky is a toolsy quarterback who can use his legs to keep plays alive. He's got the arm to make all the throws in the NFL, but he needs to do a better job with decision making. Trubisky is a virtual lock to be a first-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft. In fact, there's a good chance he goes off the board in the top five.

ARI - WR Larry Fitzgerald could call it a career

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald reportedly told friends in September he expected 2016 to be his last season. He has yet to make a definitive decision one way or the other, but when asked about his future last offseason, the 10-time Pro Bowler told KMVP-FM 'a lot of it's tied to Carson (Palmer).'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Palmer is reportedly contemplating retirement but he should be back for another run in 2017, and we believe Fitzgerald will return as well. He's set to be a Hall of Fame player at some point when his playing days are done. The Cardinals need to find an heir apparent for both Palmer and Fitzgerald ASAP.

ARI - QB Carson Palmer mum about retirement plans

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer has yet to confirm whether he intends to return for another season or retire. At least one prominent general manager and two coaches around the league believe Palmer has played his last down.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Cardinals don't have an heir apparent behind Palmer, but that could change quickly if he returns for another season in 2017. The draft isn't great for quarterbacks, but perhaps the Cardinals can locate a potential starter at some point in the process.

NYJ - John Morton set to become NYJ's new OC

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

New Orleans Saints wide receiver coach John Morton is expected to be named the New York Jets' new offensive coordinator, per league sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'd feel better about Morton's ability to craft a high-powered offense if we knew the Jets had a competent quarterback. Until that happens, the question marks around this Jets team remains.

PIT - RB DeAngelo Williams not expected back

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ed Bouchette

Impending free-agent RB DeAngelo Williams is unlikely to return to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2017, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Ed Bouchette.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams isn't quite done yet, and he's still got something left in the tank....albeit as a reserve running back. He should draw some interest on the open market for a team in need of quality veteran depth.

PIT - TE Ladarius Green may not stick around

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ed Bouchette

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green could be released before the start of the 2017 season, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Ed Bouchette.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Green has a $6.1 million cap number in 2017, and there's $3.5 million remaining in dead money. He's a talented player who can create mismatches anytime he's on the field, but Green's first season with the Steelers was marred by injuries. He was limited to 10 games this year and missed the postseason run due to a concussion suffered in Week 15.

TB - WR Mike Evans not concerned about contract

    Source: PewterReport.com - Scott Reynolds

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans is entering this final season of the four-year rookie contract he signed in 2014 - the team has a club option for 2018 as well - and is due to make only $690,000 (plus a $1.7 million roster bonus in 2017).

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Expect the Bucs to pick up his fifth-year option. A favorite target of QB Jameis Winston, we don't see Evens leaving Tampa. Despite the low pay relative to his position, Evans has yet to express any concern about being compensated on the level of some of the game's elite receivers.

DEN - QB Tony Romo could interest Denver

    Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis

The Denver Broncos could be interested in Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo if they can acquire him as a free agent, according to a source in the organization's football department.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Broncos general manager John Elway has previously stated that he's happy with their quarterback situation, but if he can get Romo free and clear that could change some things. At this time, it looks like Denver is setting things up for 2016 first-round pick Paxton Lynch to win the job. He'll have to beat out 2016 starter Trevor Siemian for that spot. Adding Romo would further delay Lynch's development.

    Tuesday Update

SF - Kyle Shanahan will be offered six years

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

The San Francisco 49ers are expected to offer Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan a six-year deal to become their head coach, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Shanahan's first head coaching job should allow him the chance to institute his "program" over multiple years, unlike Chip Kelly, who got only one year to turn the ship (that has run aground) around.

MIA - QB Ryan Tannehill doesn't need surgery

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating previous reports, Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) will not require surgery to repair his anterior cruciate ligament, according to sources. Tannehill had an MRI Monday, Jan. 30, to confirm the prognosis.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tannehill should be good to go for training camp, if not part of OTAs. This is good news for the Dolphins, who were flirting with the idea of playing Tannehill in the playoffs, something the Chargers did with Philip Rivers in the 2007-2008 season.

SEA - TE Jimmy Graham not being used in red zone

Source: The Tacoma News Tribune - Gregg Bell

Seattle Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham has been targeted 31 times for 13 catches and six touchdowns in the red zone in 29 games since joining the Seahawks.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Graham rose back to the elite fantasy tight end level in 2016, but he faded late in the season and is probably past the peak of his career. While the Seahawks made more use of him last year, it could be mostly due to Tyler Lockett's injury.

GB - WR Jordy Nelson struggled with YAC

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Bob McGinn

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson averaged 3.58 yards after the catch, which was his lowest average since his rookie season. He had either zero or minus yards after the catch on 41 of his 105 catches in 2016. He did finish with 15 touchdowns during the season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nelson was still very productive, but was not the deep threat he had been in the past for Aaron Rodgers. His best days are probably behind him, although Nelson could still be a fantasy WR1 this year because of the quality of his quarterback.

GB - WR Randall Cobb had only two drops

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Bob McGinn

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb dropped only two of his 105 targets this season and led the team with a drop rate of 1.9 percent. Cobb also led the team with an average of 5.05 yards after the catch.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cobb has never regained the on-field or fantasy form that made him a valuable commodity in 2014. He should be falling well into the mid-rounds in fantasy drafts this year.

GB - WR Davante Adams dropped fewer passes in 2016

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Bob McGinn

Green Bay Packers WR Davante Adams saw his drop rate go from 12.5 percent in 2015 to only 6.2 percent in 2016. He also led the team in gains of over 35 yards.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Adams was left for dead by fantasy drafters this summer, but he should be poised to be an even bigger part of the offense next season with Randall Cobb having trouble staying healthy and Jordy Nelson getting into the autumn of his career.

ATL - RB Devonta Freeman an extension candidate

Source: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution - D. Orlando Ledbetter

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman is expected to have contract extension talks with the Falcons this offseason. His agent believes Freeman should be paid like one of the top three running backs in the NFL.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Freeman will be underpaid because he is sharing time with Tevin Coleman and the Falcons won't feel a need to pay him like a lead back, even though he could easily be one of the most productive backs in the league in a larger role.

HOU - Houston expected to hire WR Wes Welker

Source: Houston Chronicle - John McClain

Former NFL WR Wes Welker is expected to join the Houston Texans coaching staff as an offensive assistant.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Welker has five years in New England with head coach Bill O'Brien under his belt, and he could help ultra-athletic slot receiver and QB convert Braxton Miller with his transition to wide receiver.

OAK - RB Latavius Murray saw touches drop in 2016

    Source: ESPN.com - Paul Gutierrez

Oakland Raiders RB Latavius Murray recorded less carries and receptions in 2016 than he did in 2015. Murray had 195 carries and 33 receptions this season while recording 266 carries and 41 receptions in 2015.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Raiders didn't seem totally sold on Murray coming into 2016, and two rookie backs took more playing time away from him as a result. They could bring Murray back in free agency, but he is unlikely to see his role increase.

DEN - Denver could target WR Ted Ginn

Source: The Denver Post - Cameron Wolfe

Carolina Panthers impending free-agent WR Ted Ginn Jr. could be eyed by the Denver Broncos this offseason in an effort to improve their return game, in the opinion of The Denver Post's Cameron Wolfe. CB Kalif Raymond is expected to be a key competitor for the return position, too, with impending free-agent WR Jordan Norwood hitting free agency.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ginn's fantasy value would take a hit in Denver with their quarterback situation, but he could be a huge help to a team that had trouble generating offense by giving them better field position through the return game.

DAL - La'el Collins to play right tackle?

    Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Dallas Cowboys OT La'el Collins could be given a shot at tackle if the Cowboys re-sign impending free-agent OG Ronald Leary. ESPNDallas.com's Todd Archer posits that the only chance Dallas may have of bringing back Leary is if he's guaranteed to start at guard, in which case Collins could move to tackle. However, Archer added that Collins needs more time to work on his technique and footwork after playing his first professional season at guard.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Cowboys "great wall" is not only the league's best offensive line, but it has depth to give the team options on handling Leary in free agency. Current right tackle Doug Free is in his 11th season and last year of his contract, so Collins will probably be moving to right tackle eventually anyway.

NYJ - QB Colin Kaepernick of interest to the Jets?

    Source: NJ.com - Darryl Slater

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is entering the final year of his contract in due to have a $19.3 million cap figure, and the team can save $16.9 million in cap space by cutting or trading him. One possible destination could be the New York Jets, who named New Orleans Saints receivers coach John Morton as their new offensive coordinator Sunday, Jan. 29. Morton served as the receivers coach in San Francisco from 2011 to 2014 - Kaepernick's first four years in the league.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kaepernick is almost certainly not going to be with San Francisco next season, as next GM John Lynch won't make the same mistake that Trent Baalke did last year, seeking trade compensation after paying Kaepernick's hefty price tag. The Jets are among the most desperate quarterback teams in the NFL, although they might wait to see what happens with Tony Romo before pursuing an option like Kaepernick.

    27. NYJ - Jets' interest in George Godsey cools

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

Former Houston Texans offensive coordinator George Godsey is not expected to serve as the New York Jets quarterback coach, according to team sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Godsey was in consideration for the team's offensive coordinator position that was just filled by Saints wide receiver coach John Morton. Some were surprised the team did not opt for him, and now it appears that he is not in their plans in any way.

    Wednesday Update

PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger expected to return

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Gerry Dulac

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger is expected to return next season, according to owner Art Rooney, despite uncertainty regarding his future. Rooney did admit, however, that the Steelers are probably due to look at quarterbacks in this year's draft class.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

ATL - Alex Mack gets in a limited practice

    Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure

Atlanta Falcons C Alex Mack (ankle, fibula) was limited in practice Monday, Jan. 30, but is expected to see more work as the week progresses, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mack is arguably the second most important player on the Falcons team. The extra week to recover from his injury can only help Atlanta's cause.

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe) 'looked great' during a limited practice Monday, Jan. 30, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The extra week before the Super Bowl isn't very popular and mostly serves to generate hype and coverage, but it could be crucial for the Falcons, who can get their all-world wide receiver closer to 100% as he battles a recurring toe injury.

HOU - Houston could pursue QB Jimmy Garoppolo

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo could be a possible trade target for the Houston Texans, according to the Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Texans are obviously in the market for a quarterback with Brock Osweiler's failings, but they are on the hook for 16 million guaranteed dollars to Osweiler this year. If they trade what would likely be a first-round pick for Garoppolo, they would have to tie up an inordinate amount of money if they sign Garoppolo to a long-term deal and keep Osweiler (which seems to be impossible to avoid). Alternatively, they could wait until 2018 to offer Garoppolo a deal, but if he plays well in 2017, the price will be much higher than Osweiler's. It makes sense from a team need point of view, but the contract given to Osweiler hurts the possibility of it happening.

IND - New Colts GM supports Chuck Pagano

    Source: NFL.com - Jeremy Bergman

Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard praised head coach Chuck Pagano and referred to him as 'a good football coach in the National Football League' during his introductory news conference Monday, Jan. 30. He also added how 'there are no other options.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pagano survived the firing of Ryan Grigson, but 2017 has to be seen as a make or break year for the coach who has seemed to be on the hot seat for over a year. The Colts won't have the excuse of Grigson's missteps for their underachievement for much longer.

NE - Patriots are 16-0 when RB Dion Lewis plays

    Source: ESPN Stats and Information

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis has never been part of losing effort since joining the club in 2015. In fact, in 16 total games, including the postseason, the Patriots are a perfect 16-0 when Lewis suits up.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lewis's versatility has restored the Kevin Faulk role to the offense, but he is also a better inside runner and more sudden in the open field than Faulk ever was. He should play a large role in the Super Bowl against the Falcons inexperienced linebacker group.

ATL - QB Matt Ryan already elite in postseason

    Source: NFLMedia.com

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan is the only quarterback in playoff history to throw for at least three touchdowns in four straight playoff games.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This record should be shared by Ryan and soon-to-be 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan. The Falcons offense has been impossible to solve this year, but the Patriots have some versatility in their personnel to match the multiple looks the Falcons throw at the opposition.

NE - RB LeGarrette Blount thrives in postseason

    Source: NFLMedia.com

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount has rushed for eight touchdowns in his last seven postseason games. He has scored six times in his last seven games this season, including the playoffs.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Blount has been one of the more productive backs and biggest bargains in the NFL since the Steelers released him in 2014. He should be a big part of the Super Bowl game plan against a Falcons front that gave up 4.4 yards per carry and got dominated by the Eagles in one of their losses this season.

LAC - WR Travis Benjamin had knee surgery

    Source: ESPN - Adam Caplan

Los Angeles Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (knee) underwent arthroscopic knee surgery last week to repair a Grade 2 posterior cruciate ligament sprain. Benjamin had been dealing with the sprain for several weeks. A timetable for his recovery was not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Benjamin played through the injury and even got some of his speed back, but the surgery is probably good news for his long term prognosis. His toughness can't be questioned and if the Chargers can put him, Tyrell Williams, and Keenan Allen on the field together next year, they could have lethal passing attack around Philip Rivers.

PIT - WR Antonio Brown deal should get done

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown is expected to get a long-term deal done in his contract year, according to owner Art Rooney.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brown's locker room Facebook live kerfuffle and behavior that sometimes fit the diva wide receiver stereotype too well have caused some speculation that the team will part ways with him eventually, but he is only 29 and playing at a hall of fame level, so unless the off field issues get worse, Brown should retire a Steeler.

PIT - WR Martavis Bryant not a lock to rejoin Pitt

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Gerry Dulac

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant has 'a ways to go' before the Steelers can count on him playing, according to owner Art Rooney.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bryant applied for reinstatement earlier this month and most reports around his time away from the team are positive, but Rooney's words are a good reminder that even if he is reinstated, there are a lots steps in the process to get back to where he was before his latest suspension.

    PIT - Pitt wants Le'Veon Bell long-term

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Rooney added that he believes Bell has grown from his suspensions.

Bell's suspensions could be seen as a reason to not commit to him long-term, but the Steelers know the value of their running back, and he fits well with their aggressive offensive philosophy and top-end offensive line. Expect him to be signed to a multi-year deal soon.

BUF - Buffalo cleans house on coaching staff

    Source: BuffaloBills.com

The Buffalo Bills announced linebackers coach Bobby April III, defensive line coach John Blake, quarterbacks coach David Lee, defensive assistant D但nton Lynn, defensive backs coach Tim McDonald, assistant head coach Chris Palmer, assistant defensive backs coach Ed Reed, special teams assistant Eric Smith, quality control coach Kathryn Smith, assistant quarterbacks coach Jason Vrable and outside linebackers coach Jeff Weeks will not be a part of the coaching staff under new head coach Sean McDermott.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills are removing almost all traces of the short-lived Rex Ryan era in Buffalo. McDermott will have a chance to put his fingerprints on most of the staff as the team tries to get out of the doldrums of mediocrity.

NFL - Corey Davis could miss NFL Combine

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

Western Michigan WR Corey Davis suffered an ankle injury while training for the draft. The injury is reportedly serious enough to cast doubt on his status for the NFL Combine.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Davis's stock could take a hit if he misses the combine because the league puts more stock in combine numbers when it comes to small schoolers. He is battling Clemson's Mike Williams to be the first receiver off of the board this spring.

MIN - TE Kyle Rudolph busy in 2016

    Source: ESPN.com - Ben Goessling

Minnesota Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph ran routes on 58 percent of his snaps and was targeted on a career-high 23.7 percent of his routes last season, according to ESPN Stats and Information.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This despite offensive line woes that forced the Vikings to play options they never envisioned counting on when the season opened. If they can stabilize the line for the upcoming season and avoid the injury epidemic, Rudolph could be used even more as a receiver.

NYG - WR Victor Cruz uncertain about return

    Source: NJ.com - Dan Duggan

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz wants to play out the final two years of his contract with the team, but he admits the 'ball is in (the Giants') court' when it comes to sticking around. Cruz has a $9.4 million salary cap hit next season and will likely need to take a pay cut for the second straight season in order to stay. Cruz agreed to reduce his base salary from $7.9 million to $1.3 million for the 2016 season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cruz was only a small contributor in 2016, and it's possible that UDFA Roger Lewis will completely overtake him as the #3 receiver with more development this offseason. His time on our fantasy radar is probably over even though his return from a patellar tendon blowout was inspiring and surprising.

PIT - WR Sammie Coates has surgery

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Sammie Coates (finger) underwent surgery to repair fractures and tendon damage in his left ring and index fingers, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Coates was mid-breakout against the Jets in Week 5 when he suffered the injuries. He played a small and sporadic role on offense after that and could be blocked by Martavis Bryant if he is reinstated by the league (Bryant applied for reinstatement earlier this month). Coates' fantasy stock is volatile heading into the 2017 season, but his talent and situation still give him a high ceiling if he can land more opportunity.

NYG - RB Rashad Jennings expects to return

    Source: NJ.com - James Kratch

New York Giants RB Rashad Jennings said he expects to return to the team in 2017. Jennings has one year left on his deal, and his release would save the club $2.5 million.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jennings yielded more and more to fifth-round pick Paul Perkins as the year went on, and we should expect the second-year back to be the lead back when camp opens whether Jennings is with the Giants or not. At the point, Jennings is probably best suited to being a third-down and no huddle running back because of his blocking prowess and versatility.

LAC - Chargers seek to bring back RB Danny Woodhead

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Michael Gehlken

The Los Angeles Chargers are hoping to re-sign RB Danny Woodhead (knee) this offseason. Woodhead is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in March.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Woodhead looked as good as ever before tearing his ACL early in the season. He just turned 32, but doesn't seem to be slowing down. We'll see if that still holds true after he returns from reconstructive knee surgery. For now, it looks like he's still part of the renaissance of 30+ year old running backs in the NFL.

SF - 49ers' power structure in place

    Source: ESPN.com - Jim Trotter

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch will have the 'final say' over the draft, free agency and the 90-man roster. Meanwhile, Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, who is likely the team's next head coach, will have the final say on the 53-man roster, according to ESPN's Jim Trotter.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The 49ers are giving Lynch a lot of power in his first personnel job, but the hope is that Shanahan had input in his hiring. This is the picture of an organization truly rebuilding from the ground up.

    Thursday Update

ATL - WR Julio Jones listed as limited

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe) was limited during practice Wednesday, Feb. 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones has assured everyone that he won't be limited by his toe injury in the Super Bowl. While he might feel good going into the game, it's far from certain that he'll make it through the contest without an aggravation. The Falcons will likely spread the ball around even if Jones is at full speed.

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (knee) was limited during practice Wednesday, Feb. 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bennett hasn't been healthy since October, but the extra rest before the Super Bowl should help him be as good as he has been in months for the big game.

New England Patriots WR Malcolm Mitchell (knee) was limited during practice Wednesday, Feb. 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mitchell's health could be determining factor in his playing time for the Super Bowl. Waiver claim Michael Floyd hasn't made a big impact or gotten on the same page as Tom Brady yet.

PIT - Le'Veon Bell still weighing surgery

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Updating an ongoing story, Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (groin) is still assessing his options to determine if he needs offseason groin surgery. 'I'm kind of in the process of seeing a couple of doctors, seeing if I have to get surgery or not,' Bell said. 'I'm hoping for the best, but I understand it's a tough game. If I don't get surgery, I go into the rehab process, work hard, get back to how I was last year, or actually, better. I'm going to take it from there.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bell's injury was worse than the Steelers let on and one that fantasy owners should remember because technically that means he still hasn't had a fully healthy year in the NFL, and this one included three games off. Perhaps the Steelers miscalculated by giving him as many as 38 carries in a game at times last season.

ARI - WR Larry Fitzgerald putting off retirement

    Source: ESPN.com - Jim Trotter

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald announced Wednesday, Feb. 1, that he is 'definitely' returning for a 14th season and play out the final year of his contract in 2017, according to ESPN's Jim Trotter.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This should help Cardinals fans breath a sigh of relief, as Carson Palmer seems likely to return if Fitzgerald is coming back. The Hall of Famer actually had his second highest catches total ever last year and his value is strong in PPR leagues with Michael Floyd no longer in Arizona and John Brown's long-term health a question due to a sickle-cell condition.

DEN - RB C.J. Anderson expects to be cleared soon

    Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis

Denver Broncos RB C.J. Anderson (knee) said he has been running at full speed and expects to be cleared for all football-related activities later this month. He said he has not make any cuts while running yet but is not feeling much pain.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Anderson was reportedly in consideration to return if the Broncos made the playoffs, but this report makes it clear that that was never a possibility. Devontae Booker was a bust in his stead, so expect Anderson to be the clear starter going into next season, albeit one that still hasn't had a full healthy season in the NFL.

TB - QB Mike Glennon may be too expensive for Bucs

    Source: PewterReport.com - Scott Reynolds

Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht indicated the team would like to re-sign impending free-agent QB Mike Glennon, but he may be too expensive to sign since he likely will receive interest from teams looking for a starting quarterback.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Glennon will likely get a contract that makes most people scream overpaid, but after Brock Osweiler's deal last year, nothing will surprise us. Glennon was surprisingly good in his rookie year for a mid-round pick, and he is probably one of the best options outside of Tony Romo for a team looking for a starter for the short term.

TB - Tampa Bay plans to bring back Ryan Griffin

    Source: PewterReport.com - Scott Reynolds

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers plan on re-signing impending free-agent QB Ryan W. Griffin this offseason and have him compete for the No. 2 quarterback job during training camp next season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Griffin is a priority for the Bucs because backup Mike Glennon will likely leave for greener pastures and an opportunity to compete to start elsewhere. He has been with the team since the Saints released him before the 2015 season and Tampa claimed him on waivers.

WAS - WR Josh Doctson could start in 2017

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson (Achilles') could be a starting option for the Redskins next season if the team is not able to re-sign impending free-agent WRs DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon and if Doctson completely recovers from his Achilles' tendon injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Doctson's achilles issue is still a bit shadowy and the team seemed frustrated at times with the lack of progress. Even if both of the veterans walk in free agency, Washington could feel compelled to invest in another starting quality wideout.

SEA - TE Luke Willson willing to test market

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks impending free-agent TE Luke Willson said he would like to re-sign with the Seahawks this offseason but will explore all of his options before making a final decision. He said the team did make an offer to him during the season, but he did not take it seriously.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Willson made a few plays for the offense as the season went on, but he was largely in Jimmy Graham's shadow. His athleticism would make him a player a new team could play in a larger role if he hits free agency. Deep dynasty leaguers should watch this situation.

HOU - Owners says QB Brock Osweiler needs to step up

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans owner Bob McNair said QB Brock Osweiler needs to step up his performance next season after he struggled in 2016.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The only option the Texans seem to have is hoping for Osweiler to improve and calling him out publicly, as he is due 16 million dollars whether they want to keep him or not.

HOU - WR DeAndre Hopkins may receive new deal

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans owner Bob McNair said the team will try to sign WR DeAndre Hopkins to a long-term extension this offseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hopkins took a big step back for fantasy this year, but he's still one of the premier receivers in the league. They can use their fifth-year option to keep him this year, but if they wait to sign him long term, a rising salary cap will cause his price to spike. Hopkins may want to leave if he wants a better quarterback situation and more productivity,

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Palmer's report should be heartening for the team as they wait to see who their quarterback will be next season. He appears to want to keep the perception that he will be with the team in 2017.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Steelers have some decisions to make at running back with LeVeon Bell and DeAngelo Williams both entering free agency. Karlos Williams only has one game left to serve on his suspension, so he could be battling Toussaint for the backup role, or even more if Bell is allowed to walk.

SEA - TE Jimmy Graham admits he barely practiced

    Source: CBSSports.com - Dave Richard

Seattle Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham admitted at the Pro Bowl that he 'barely practiced' during the weeks leading up to Sundays this season so that he'd be ready for the games. In addition, he 'barely' did any work in the offseason or training camp either, according to teammates.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Graham had some stretches of brilliance this year and his return from patellar tendon surgery was a smashing success for fantasy, but he might not be able to sustain that level going forward. We'll watch the Seahawks actions at tight end this offseason closely for clues to their internal assessment of Graham's future.

Don't like the two weeks before SB, but do now. Mack needs to be good to go. Julio will probably be a decoy really, so not too worried. Toe injuries suck, so just get Butler away from the rest and good to go. The two RBs out of the backfield will be huge.

    Friday Update

ARI - RB David Johnson has big goal for 2017

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Michael David Smith

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson said he wants to have 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving next season. Johnson believes he can reach that goal if he improves his route running.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson is a former wide receiver and has wide receiver ball skills and route-running ability. The Cardinals have a downfield passing attack and aren't afraid to split him out wide. This is certainly a possibility with the wide receiver group not looking as it did in years past.

ARI - Arizona likes QB Tyrod Taylor

Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor 'is very appealing to Arizona,' according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. Furthermore, Taylor would make a great fit in head coach Bruce Arians' scheme if the Bills choose to move on from their quarterback.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Taylor is a fearless downfield passer, although he is not refined in the pocket. Still, with Carson Palmer year-to-year at this point and Taylor potentially being a rare quarterback with some success as a starter available on the open market, the Cardinals have to consider adding him even if Palmer confirms his return for 2017.

North Carolina QB Mitch Trubisky has already drawn interest from the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Trubinsky seems like a longshot as the #1 overall pick with Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett the consensus name in that slot, but if the quarterback doesn't go in the top 10, the Browns could be poised to pounce at #12.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Patriots always do a great job creating a market for their backup quarterbacks. They seem to be happy with Jacoby Brissett as a backup, so signs point to Garoppolo getting traded to the highest bidding, and possibly for a first-round pick.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

NFL - Deshaun Watson to throw at combine

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Clemson QB Deshaun Watson said he will be throwing at the NFL scouting combine.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watson can only gain from this decision. There is no clear cut first quarterback on the board, although Watson's performances against Alabama and his ability to elevate his team stand out on tape compared to his peers. If he can have a strong throwing performance at the combine, that could help him separate from Mitch Trubinsky (North Carolina) and DeShone Kizer (Notre Dame), who might be more technically sound, but lack his track record of W-L success.

BAL - WR Torrey Smith may be option for Ravens

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

San Francisco 49ers WR Torrey Smith could be an option for the Baltimore Ravens if he is released by the 49ers this offseason, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Jamison Hensley.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Smith has been a disastrous signing for the 49ers and a mess for fantasy since going to San Francisco. His dynasty owners should be rooting for a release. While he meshed well with Joe Flacco in the past, he would have to share targets with Mike Wallace and Breshad Perriman if he goes there now, so his fantasy outlook would only be slightly improved.

NFL - Corey Davis had surgery

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Western Michigan WR Corey Davis (ankle) recently underwent minor ankle surgery, which will keep him from running at the NFL Scouting Combine. He should be ready for rookie minicamp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Davis's stock could drop because he won't get to work out at the combine and possibly even at his pro day, which will deny teams a chance to get objective measureables on a player who mostly went up against small school competition. He should still be a first-round pick, but this hurts his chances of being the first receiver off of the board.

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees said Thursday, Feb. 2, that he has a few seasons left in him.

Brees is under contract for two more years after he signed a deal in September. His play hasn't shown signs of falling off even though he is 38, but we saw the cliff come up fast on Peyton Manning recently. Brees doesn't have the neck issue that shortened Manning's career, but he has had shoulder issues in the past.

Miami Dolphins impending free-agent WR Kenny Stills will be pursued by the Philadelphia Eagles if he becomes a free agent, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stills will turn 25 in April, which means that a team will get most of his prime years on his second contract. Even though he wore out his welcome with the Saints after two years, he was an effective deep threat for the run-first Dolphins in 2016. The Eagles are lucky to need wide receivers in one of the best free agent markets for the position in years.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

ARI - QB Carson Palmer decision coming soon?

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer is reportedly 'tied to the hip' with WR Larry Fitzgerald in terms of their playing futures. Fitzgerald announced Wednesday, Feb. 1, he will return for another season, suggesting it is a 'good sign' Palmer will do the same.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Palmer's fantasy stock fell greatly in 2016 and it might not bounce back this year, assuming he returns, but it is looking highly likely that he does return for next season. The Cardinals can't afford to lose him if they want to contend for the playoffs. This is good news for the value of Fitzgerald, John Brown, David Johnson, and JJ Nelson.

Source: The Kansas City Star - Terez A. Paylor

Kansas City Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill will continue to see snaps at running back as well as receiver moving forward, according to head coach Andy Reid.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hill has blown up the idea that hybrid players can't be fantasy relevant or key pieces of an offense. He could pave the way for more WR/RB slash players to get enough touches to matter in fantasy leagues. He will be a tough player to gauge and likely to be taken earlier than most people want to in drafts next year as his usage should trend up in his second season.

Atlanta Falcons C Alex Mack (leg) struggled at times during practice Thursday, Feb. 2, and his left fibula injury is a cause for concern, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Patriots have some strong players on the defensive line like Malcom Brown and Alan Branch who should test Mack early. The Falcons are likely altering their gameplan to rely less on Mack's movement ability in the running game.

ATL - Atlanta has two complete backs

Source: The Associated Press - Paul Newberry

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman and RB Tevin Coleman complement each other well and are both 'three-down backs,' according to QB Matt Ryan.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is a luxury for the Falcons offense, but one that could make it harder to re-sign Freeman in 2018 because other teams will be willing to pay more than them because they don't have a Coleman in tow. If Freeman can make big contributions in a Super Bowl win Sunday, that will only increase his price on the open market.

NFL - QB Michael Vick officially retires

    Source: ESPN.com - Josina Anderson

Free-agent QB Michael Vick (Steelers) has announced that he has officially retired from professional football.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This is oddly fitting on the eve of the Super Bowl he was never able to guide his Atlanta Falcons to while he was the quarterback of the team. While he won't earn Hall of Fame consideration by any stretch, Vick was a one of a kind player who tilted fantasy leagues in his prime, and even during his second act with the Eagles.

DAL - TE Jason Witten not expecting extension

Source: The Dallas Morning News - Brandon George

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten said he does not expect to receive a contract extension this offseason even though he is entering the final year of his contract. Witten said he is taking things year-to-year and is not sure how much longer he will play.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Witten's stats are going to put him in Hall of Fame consideration, but he still hasn't sniffed a Super Bowl. Perhaps 2017 could bring a deeper run into the playoffs with another year of experience for Dak Prescott.

New England Patriots impending free-agent WR Michael Floyd said he wants to re-sign with the Patriots in the offseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Patriots were willing to give Floyd a chance and that is something will be factored into his free agency decision. He has true #1 wide receiver ability even if he hasn't shown it consistently in over a year. The Patriots shrewd personnel moves are going to pay off again.

WAS - WAS optimistic about QB Kirk Cousins deal

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins president Bruce Allen said he is optimistic that the Redskins will be able to sign impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins to a long-term deal. 'I don’t think it's as complicated as everyone wants to make it. And we'll get together with his agent, and I'm sure we'll come to an agreement,' Allen said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's not complicated, but it will be very costly for Washington to keep him. While Cousins can likely get similar contracts elsewhere, his chances of success will be lower in a different system. Washington might not want to break the bank for a quarterback with some flaws, their alternatives, such as a fragile Tony Romo or Jay Cutler in decline, aren't clearly better.

CAR - PK Graham Gano expected to face competition

    Source: ESPN.com - David Newton

The Carolina Panthers are expected to add a kicker during free agency or the NFL draft who will compete with PK Graham Gano during training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Gano was only 30-for-38 this year, which was among the worst in the league. He's also due over three million dollars next year, which could make him a cut in a camp kicking competition that ends close to a tie.

MIN - TE Kyle Rudolph pleased with 2016 season

    Source: ESPN.com - Ben Goessling

Minnesota Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph said his play in 2016 is more up to his standards and expects to post similar stats moving forward. 'I talked about how my first five years were kind of disappointing to me, in terms of my standards,' Rudolph said. 'This season was more along the lines of what I expect for myself, and what I expect moving forward, to kind of be a springboard and a baseline for the rest of my career.' Rudolph finished the 2016 season with 83 receptions for 840 yards and seven touchdowns.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rudolph was a top red zone target for Sam Bradford in his first season with the Vikings. With the possibility that Teddy Bridgewater won't be ready for the upcoming season, Rudolph could be a top ten tight end pick in this summer's fantasy drafts.

KC - QB Nick Foles may be cap casualty

Source: The Kansas City Star - Terez A. Paylor

Kansas City Chiefs QB Nick Foles could be a cap casualty this offseason since he is scheduled to count $10.75 million against the salary cap in 2017.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Chiefs made a contract with Foles that had an option to pay him basically the same amount that Alex Smith is due next season in the event that Foles outplayed him in 2016. That never came to pass, so Foles will either have to change his deal or re-sign with the Chiefs after they release him. The Chiefs are one of the most likely spots for him because of his history with head coach Andy Reid when both were with the Eagles.

NFL- QB Johnny Manziel to volunteer for drug tests

Source: Sporting News - Alex Marvez

Free-agent QB Johnny Manziel (Browns) plans to volunteer for testing under the NFL's drug policy as part of his comeback attempt, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Manziel does seem to be earnestly trying to turn his career around, but he is so far from the game right now that it's hard to picture him ever getting back to form. To be fair, he didn't flame out because of his play - he was still viable as an NFL quarterback at times before leaving the league, but Manziel has a lot of work to do just to get teams to answer his phone calls.

Denver Broncos impending free-agent RB Justin Forsett said he is considering retirement and will make a final decision in about a month.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Forsett had a nice renaissance in Baltimore but he doesn't have much to offer the NFL at this point. That Devontae Booker didn't decisively outperform Forsett at the end of the season doesn't bode well for Booker's future.

NO - Sean Payton really likes DeShaun Watson

Source: The New Orleans Advocate - Nick Underhill

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton said that Clemson QB Deshaun Watson 'appears to have all those things that we're looking for' and believes there's 'something special about him.' According to Payton, the Saints haven't seen 'any signs' of a potential decline for current starting QB Drew Brees, but acknowledged a transition will eventually have to come, and that 'the transaction may take place, not in the same year (Brees) is being replaced.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brees is only signed for two more years and Watson could be there at #11 for the Saints. Getting a potential franchise quarterback outside of the top five picks is difficult and having two years to learn and watch a true professional like Brees can only help Watson's chances of success.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

ATL - Dan Quinn confident in Alex Mack

    Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure

Atlanta Falcons C Alex Mack (leg) will be dealing with pain during Super Bowl 51, according to head coach Dan Quinn, but Quinn said he 'felt good' about how Mack handled playing at full speed during practice this week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

NE - TE Rob Gronkowski wants a long career

    Source: CSNNE.com - Phil Perry

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski said he plans on playing as long as he can even though he has dealt with multiple injuries during his career.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Some have wondered if Gronkowski's latest back ailment will result in him losing something he won't get back. He'll turn 28 in May and has defied these kinds of worries before, but it might be time to get out in dynasty leagues if you have another strong option at tight end. On the other hand, if you have always coveted Gronk, this is about as low as his value is going to get for a bit unless he has trouble getting back on the field.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team could attempt to keep Peterson at cheaper than his 18 million dollar price tag, or trade him to a team that will give him more favorable terms than Minnesota. One thing is clear, Peterson won't get a six million dollar roster bonus on March 11. He's just not worth that plus his 12 million dollar salary and workout bonus in his age 32 season. He could pick his team if he wants to force the Vikings hand by not reworking his deal for them or a potential trade partner.

NYJ - NYJ 'seem' to have eyes on QB Mike Glennon

Source: NJ Advance Media - Connor Hughes

Impending free-agent QB Mike Glennon may be the most likely candidate to fill the New York Jets' need at quarterback, according to NJ Advance Media's Connor Hughes.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Glennon was actually excellent by rookie standards back in 2013, and he has a better resume than Brock Osweiler because his success was earlier in his career. Osweiler got 37 million guaranteed, but his failure will give teams pause when paying Glennon. He should get an incentive and playing-time bonus laden deal somewhere along with a chance to compete to start. The Jets aren't going to be one of the most attractive destinations for a quarterback so a second-tier option like Glennon makes sense.

Taylor is unlikely to get his 30+ million guaranteed dollars if the Bills exercise their option to keep him by March 11, but he could stay on a restructured deal. Either way, he should be a starter somewhere in 2017, even if only as a bridge to a first-round quarterback.

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy said he believes he is the best running back in the NFL if he is healthy.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCoy was certainly one of the five or six best fantasy running backs and NFL running backs this year, but he is not quite at the level of LeVeon Bell or David Johnson. Still, he has surprised us with his second act in Buffalo and he should still be drafted as a low RB1 no matter who the quarterback is for Buffalo next year.

The Kansas City Chiefs will attempt to extend the contracts of general manager John Dorsey and head coach Andy Reid this offseason, according to team chairman Clark Hunt, who said he was 'very satisfied' with the job they have been doing. Both men are entering the final year of their deals.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

KC - KC interested in QB Tony Romo?

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

The Kansas City Chiefs are one team that could be interested in acquiring Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo this offseason, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The team is reportedly looking to upgrade the quarterback position after losing in the second round of the playoffs for the second consecutive year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Alex Smith was partially to blame for the loss and he is known for his lack of aggressiveness, but so was the team's meeker approach on offense under Andy Reid. Romo could add more derring-do, but if Reid doesn't change significantly, the results could be the same no matter who the quarterback is.

The Bengals would make Andy Dalton's job a lot harder if they have to turn to 2015 draft picks Jake Fisher or Cedric Ogbuehi. The Eagles blocked DeFilippo from interviewing with the Jets for their offensive coordinator job, so they clearly value the continuity he brings to Wentz's development. DeFilippo helped get Derek Carr's career off of the right foot in Oakland, so there's reason to value him.

Falcons were staying true to their personality so I wouldn't criticize Shanahan too much, he had to remain aggressive with Pats not going away. Can't blame him for Ryan taking a sack and then the holding penalty after Atlanta was in field goal range their last drive. Real culprit was the defense, they were fine in first half but just wore down late under Brady pressure.
