NFL Player News - Week 16

    Courtesy of Footballguys.com

HOU - QB Tom Savage will start this week

    Source: SI.com - Albert Breer

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage will start in Week 16, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brock Osweiler makes for an expensive backup, but his poor play this season warrants the move to Savage. Against the Jaguars on Sunday, Savage came into the game and helped spark the offense. If Savage plays well, he could earn another start in Week 17 as the Texans make a run at the division title and the postseason.

GB - QB Aaron Rodgers avoids setback in Week 15

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (calf, hamstring) did not aggravate either one of his lower-body injuries in a Week 15 win over the Chicago Bears.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news for Rodgers and the Packers here. Rodgers didn't fill the air with footballs against the Bears on Sunday...but he didn't have to. He didn't practice at all last week, and Rodgers is likely to be limited in practice this week as well while he continues to deal with these injuries.

JAX - Doug Marrone named interim coach

    Source: Jaguars.com - John Oehser

Jacksonville Jaguars assistant head coach/offensive line coach Doug Marrone was named the head coach on an interim basis Monday, Dec. 19, replacing the fired Gus Bradley for the final two games of the season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Marrone has plenty of experience as the top man. He was the head coach at Syracuse from 2009-2012, and he left to be the head coach for the Buffalo Bills from 2013-2014.

ATL - Wednesday key for WR Julio Jones

    Source: AtlantaFalcons.com - Kelsey Conway

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe) will have a clearer grasp of his availability for Week 16 Wednesday, Dec. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Falcons are on the road this week as they travel to play the Panthers on Saturday. Having Jones on the field would certainly boost the offense, and it would be a great matchup for fantasy owners to rush Jones back into the lineup. We'll wait and see what Wednesday's practice tells us.

CIN - WR A.J. Green expected for Week 16

    Source: ESPN - Bob Holtzman

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (hamstring) is expected to play Saturday, Dec. 24, in Week 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Green was limited practicing last week, but he did not play against the Steelers. The plan was to test him out during practice and get him ready for Week 16. Barring any setback, we should see Green on the field in Week 16 against the Texans.

BAL - RB Terrance West outsnaps RB Kenneth Dixon

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

Baltimore Ravens RB Terrance West played 26-of-58 snaps in Week 14 against the Philadelphia Eagles, while rookie Kenneth Dixon settled for 15 snaps.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Every week it seems to rotate between West and Dixon. This week it was West who got the most snaps, and he produced more fantasy points than the rookie. However, in Week 14 it was Dixon who was the better fantasy play. This is truly a 'hot hand' approach to a RBBC and makes both shaky starters in Week 16.

CLE - WR Terrelle Pryor to play through injury

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Updating an earlier report, Cleveland Browns WR Terrelle Pryor (finger) plans to play through potential ligament damage in his knuckle but will likely need surgery after the season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pryor is playing through this injury, but his once outstanding fantasy stock has taken a tumble. It's not all due to the injury, but also because of the QB switch back to Robert Griffin III. With Griffin starting the last two games, Pryor only has 11 targets, five catches and 22 receiving yards.

SD - RB Melvin Gordon's status uncertain

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Michael Gehlken

San Diego Chargers head coach Mike McCoy said the team will see how RB Melvin Gordon (hip, knee) feels during the week before deciding on his status for Week 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Chargers struggled running the ball without Gordon against the Raiders on Sunday. Kenneth Farrow led the team with 39 yards on 15 carries. Ronnie Hillman chipped in with 34 rushing yards on seven carries. The team will monitor Gordon closely during the week of practice. The team travels to play the hapless Browns in Week 16.

DEN - Two Denver tight ends in protocol

    Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis

Denver Broncos TEs Virgil Green (concussion) and A.J. Derby (concussion) are both in the concussion protocol, according to head coach Gary Kubiak.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Broncos are thin at the position with these two guys banged up. Jeff Heuerman will get more of an opportunity in Week 16 if Green and Derby can't play.

NYJ - QB Bryce Petty's test reveal only a bruise

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

New York Jets QB Bryce Petty (chest) came away from tests 'OK' in regards to the chest injury he suffered late in the team's Week 15 loss to the Miami Dolphins, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Petty has banged up in the game against the Dolphins on Saturday, and he had to be replaced by Ryan Fitzpatrick. We'll be watching this QB situation during the week of practice, but in Week 16 championships fantasy owners won't be turning to any of the Jets QBs.

    Wednesday Update

ATL - WR Julio Jones limited in practice Tuesday

Source: CBS Sports Radio - Knox Bardeen

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe) put in a limited practice Tuesday, Dec. 20.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners want to start Jones in the fantasy championship if they can. He's missed the last two games, and his status or Week 16 is up in the air. The Falcons travel to play the Panthers on Saturday. Stay tuned.

NYG - Ben McAdoo, Giants fined

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo and the Giants were fined $50,000 for illegal use of walkie talkies in a Week 14 win against the Dallas Cowboys.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Anyone who grew up in the 80s will tell you that walkie talkies are the coolest. Apparently, McAdoo will have to keep his walkie talkies at home.

SD - No practice for RB Melvin Gordon

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Tom Krasovic
San Diego Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (hip, knee) did not practice Tuesday, Dec. 20.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Chargers are out of it, and there's no need to rush Gordon back into the lineup this week or next. We'd be surprised if he plays again this year, but we will be monitoring his progress closely.

CLE - WR Terrelle Pryor will have surgery

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns WR Terrelle Pryor (finger) will play through his finger injury and undergo surgery in the offseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This was expected, but it's not going to take him off the field. However, his recent play may take him out of your fantasy lineup. With Robert Griffin III starting the last two contests, Pryor only has 11 targets, five catches and 22 receiving yards.

NYG - RB Shane Vereen's season over

    Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (triceps) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Dec. 20, ending his season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Vereen initially hurt his tricep back in Week 3 and missed most of the season because of it. The Giants brought him back, but he ended up injuring his triceps again. Now, they'll move forward with Paul Perkins and Rashad Jennings in a RBBC. Vereen is signed with the team through 2017, but there's no guarantee he'll be on the roster when OTAs begin.

SEA - Seahawks hopeful RB C.J. Prosise can return

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta
Seattle Seahawks RB C.J. Prosise (shoulder) possibly may return for the postseason, as the team is hopeful he'll be available at that point. Nothing is certain, however.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The team will monitor him closely as he returns. Prosise can work well as a receiver out of the backfield, and he gives the team a nice complementary back behind Thomas Rawls.

IND - WR Donte Moncrief returns to practice

Source: FOX 59 Indianapolis - Mike Chappell

Indianapolis Colts WR Donte Moncrief (hamstring) returned to practice Tuesday, Dec. 20, and was limited. He's expected to be limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 21, as well.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Moncrief was injured in Week 14, and he didn't play last week. His status is up in the air for the Colts game on the road against the Raiders in Week 16.

PIT - WR Darrius Heyward-Bey might return Week 16

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler
Pittsburgh Steelers WR Darrius Heyward-Bey (foot) has begun running full speed in a straight line and might return from injury in the team's Week 16 game Sunday, Dec. 25, versus the Baltimore Ravens.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With TE Ladarius Green (concussion) banged up, the team is looking for more targets in the passing game. We'll see if Heyward-Bey can play fo the Steelers on Christmas.

PIT - TE Ladarius Green's Week 16 status up in air

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green's (concussion) status for the team's Week 16 game Sunday, Dec. 25, versus the Baltimore Ravens is up in the air.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He's still under concussion protocol and will be meeting Dr. Mickey Collins of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center for evaluation. The team is going to be super cautious with him and may not be available for the game against the Ravens on Christmas.

PIT - RB DeAngelo Williams likely to return Week 16

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ed Bouchette

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (knee) is expected to play Week 16 against the Baltimore Ravens.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams will serve as the primary backup to Le'Veon Bell. The team may mix him in a bit upon his return this week to give Bell a breather.

HOU - QB Tom Savage had success throwing downfield

    Source: ESPN.com - Sarah Barshop

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage went 4-for-8 for 89 yards on passes thrown 15 yards or more downfield in Week 15 versus the Jacksonville Jaguars. Brock Osweiler was 0-for-2 with two interceptions on such throws before getting replaced by Savage and is averaging only 5.75 yards per attempt, which is on pace to be the NFL’s third-lowest mark in the last five seasons.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

According to Houston Chronicle long-time beat writer John McClain, there is no short leash for Savage. He's expected to be the quarterback for the rest of the regular season and into the postseason if the Texans make it that far.

BAL - RB Kyle Juszczyk the third-down back for now

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

Baltimore Ravens FB Kyle Juszczyk (32-of-58) out-snapped RBs Terrance West (26-of-58) and Kenneth Dixon (15-of-58) in Week 15 against the Philadelphia Eagles in large part because he was the team's lone back in the game on third downs. The Ravens reportedly still don’t trust West or Dixon in third-down, pass-protection situations.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If the team doesn't trust their two young backs in pass protection, then it means more snaps for the fullback. Juszczyk isn't fantasy relevant, but his time on the field does take away potential carries/targets for West or Dixon.

BUF - QB Tyrod Taylor unlikely to see revised deal

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Rodak

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor is unlikely to have his contract re-negotiated, in the opinion of beat writer Mike Rodak. Taylor is on the books for $27.5 million in 2017, and the team has until March 11 to exercise an option on Taylor's contract that would trigger the 2018 through 2021 years of the deal, paying him $15.5 million immediately and lowering his 2017 salary to a fully guaranteed $12 million.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Taylor's future with the team is somewhat murky. He's struggled this year, but Taylor has also been missing some big time weapons in the passing game due to injury. They don't have a better option on the roster with former first-round pick E.J. Manuel likely to move on and rookie Cardale Jones not being developed enough as a passer to be a real threat to start. It will be interesting to see what the Bills do with Taylor this offseason.

OAK - QB Derek Carr not lining up under center

    Source: ESPN.com - Paul Gutierrez

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) has not taken a snap under center and has been in shotgun or pistol formations since he injured his finger. The team has been limited in what they can do, especially deep in the red zone, in the two formations. 'Yes, it is somewhat of an issue,' head coach Jack Del Rio said. 'It is not ideal. Being completely honest about it, it is an issue that we are working through. At some point, we will feel better about going under center, we will; but until then, we’ll execute the best we can out of the formations we feel most comfortable with.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The problem with the shotgun or pistol formation is there's a "tell" for where the team can run the football. A lack of deception when running can hurt any potential production from the running game, and that can make the Raiders one dimensional on offense.

LA - Sean Mannion might be tabbed to start

    Source: ESPN.com - Alden Gonzalez

Los Angeles Rams QB Sean Mannion might be considered for the starting job in Week 16 if QB Jared Goff (concussion) cannot play. The team would like to make a decision by Thursday, Dec. 22, on their starter.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Why not see what Mannion has to offer? QB Case Keenum is a free agent at season's end, and the team would like to see what they have in Mannion, their third-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Mannion is big, has a strong arm and is athletic enough to evade the rush. However, his decision making and accuracy are big question marks.

    Thursday Update

ATL - Limited practice for WR Julio Jones

    Source: NFL

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe) was limited during practice Wednesday, Dec. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Early reports indicate that Jones is going to play against the Panthers in Week 16. If he does play, then fantasy owners should find a way to get him in the lineup.

GB - QB Aaron Rodgers practices in full

    Source: NFL
Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (calf) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Dec. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rodgers wasn't able to practice at all last week, but he played in Week 15 although he was obviously limited. The fact that he's fully participating on Wednesday means he's trending in the right direction.

CIN - WR A.J. Green limited

    Source: Bengals.com

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (hamstring) was limited during practice Wednesday, Dec. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The plan was for Green to return in Week 16, and so far it looks like he's on track to play. Make sure to check back on his practice status later in the week.

MIN - RB Adrian Peterson has groin injury

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (groin, knee) is dealing with a groin injury in addition to his knee injury. He did not participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We'd like to think Adrian Peterson isn't human but even he's facing reality. Missing this much time and then jumping back in last week was worrisome and it looks like that was with good reason. The Vikings are mathematically still alive for the playoffs but things aren't looking good.

SD - RB Melvin Gordon sitting out

San Diego Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (hip, knee) is not participating in practice Wednesday, Dec. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Chargers have no need to rush Gordon back into the lineup. We don't think he returns this year, and this week should have Kenneth Farrow in the starting lineup for the second game in a row. Farrow didn't do much last week (53 all-purpose yards and a lost fumble), but against the Browns in Week 16 he should be able to post better numbers.

NYJ - QB Bryce Petty will start in Week 16

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
Updating a previous report, New York Jets QB Bryce Petty (chest) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Dec. 21, and will be the starting quarterback for Week 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Petty's chest injury was minor even though it knocked him out of the game last week. In Week 16 against the Patriots, Petty should continue to force-feed the ball to WR Robby Anderson. Outside of Anderson (and RB Bilal Powell), it's difficult to trust any Jets skill position player in championship week.

HOU - RB Lamar Miller misses practice

    Source: NFL

Houston Texans RB Lamar Miller (ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Miller was banged up against the Jaguars last week. Watch his practice status later in the week to make sure he's going to play against the Bengals on Saturday night. If Miller can't play, Alfred Blue and Akeem Hunt are the backs behind him.

LA - Full practice for QB Jared Goff

    Source: NFL

Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff (concussion) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Dec. 21.

CIN - TE Tyler Eifert injury update

    Source: Bengals.com

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (back) missed practice Wednesday, Dec. 21, because of a back injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners need to stay on top of Eifert's availability later this week. His four touchdowns over the last four weeks make him an upside fantasy play in any format. His 1-for-9 stat line against the Steelers in Week 15 does create some doubt.

IND - Limited practice for WR Donte Moncrief

    Source: Colts.com

Indianapolis Colts WR Donte Moncrief (hamstring) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Moncrief missed the game against the Vikings last week. He's on track to play this week but could be eased back into action.

    Source: Panthers.com

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (back) was limited during practice Wednesday, Dec. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Over the last three games, Benjamin has not had a single game with over 20 receiving yards. It will be difficult to trust him at home against the Falcons in Week 16.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed does not practice

    Source: Redskins.com
Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (shoulder) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watch Reed's status for Week 16 by monitoring his practice status during the week. Washington travels to take on the hapless Bears on Saturday. If Reed doesn't play, Vernon Davis would be asked to do more.

CLE - WR Terrelle Pryor listed as limited

Cleveland Browns WR Terrelle Pryor (finger) was limited during practice Wednesday, Dec. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pryor is going to need surgery on this finger injury after the season is over. He is going to play, but with Robert Griffin III at quarterback we may not see much from the passing game.

BUF - WR Sammy Watkins practicing

Source: WGR Sports Radio 550 - Sal Capaccio

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) is practicing Wednesday, Dec. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills are at home against the Dolphins this week. The weather forecast calls for windy and rainy conditions on Saturday. That gives us pause when considering Watkins as anything more than a boom/bust play in Week 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sproles will play as a change-of-pace back behind Ryan Mathews against the Giants on Thursday night. He missed Week 15, so the Eagles may ease Sproles back this week upon his return.

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (ankle) is listed as questionable for Week 16, but head coach Doug Pederson said Matthews should play.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With Matthews on the field, he should see around 10 targets from rookie QB Carson Wentz. His six catches for 27 yards last week against the Ravens won't blow anyone away, but that number should grow -- even if slightly -- against the Giants on Thursday night.

GB - WR Davante Adams will still see action

Source: USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin - Ryan Wood

Green Bay Packers WR Davante Adams will continue to see targets after a couple of drops in Week 15, according to QB Aaron Rodgers. 'I'm going to him, and that's not going to stop at all,' Rodgers said. 'The guy's a big-time playmaker for us, and he has all the confidence in the world. A couple of drops is not going to put a dent in that.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Drops are just part of what you get with Adams. He had a problem with drops in college at Fresno State, and that has followed him to the pros. It seems like every other week Adams has a 100-yard game...at least that's been the case with three such games over the last six weeks. He had two for 25 last week against the Bears, so expect Adams to have a better day against the Vikings on Saturday.

any outlook on the Hou TE situation. I'm ready to bench Gates and his non-productive butt.

Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff (concussion) has cleared the concussion protocol and will start the team's Week 16 game Saturday, Dec. 24, against the San Francisco 49ers, according to interim head coach John Fassel.

    :
Goff has a long way to go before being a safe starter or a viable fantasy player. Even though the matchup is a solid one, he shouldn't be in anyone's lineups.

    Friday Update

ATL - Coach says WR Julio Jones will play

    Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure
Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe) will play against the Carolina Panthers in Week 16, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones is a surefire start this week and should put up some good numbers, even facing a Panthers defense which has been more effective of late.

CIN - WR A.J. Green expects to play

    Source: Bengals.com - Geoff Hobson

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (hamstring) said he believes he is healthy enough to play in Week 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
If he plays, Green should have a solid day but keep in mind how rare touchdowns have been for him this season—just four total all year, though two came in the last four games he played before he was injured in Week 11. He will put up solid yards but those scores are hard to come by and it will be no easier against Houston. It's a late game on Saturday as well so if he is a deactivation just before the game, you're replacement options will be minimal.

MIN - RB Adrian Peterson misses practice

    Source: Vikings.com

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (groin, knee) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Peterson didn't look great before he was sidelined due to a massive points deficit against the Colts. His lack of acumen in the pass game—especially in protection—is what put him on the bench. If the defense folds again, Peterson will be on the bench, and even if he gets some run, the lack of offensive line play makes him a poor option this weekend against Green Bay.

NYJ - RB Matt Forte may be game-time decision

Source: The Associated Press - Dennis Waszak Jr.
New York Jets RB Matt Forte (shoulder) is expected to be a game-time decision for Week 16 because of his shoulder injury, according to head coach Todd Bowles. Forte did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watch this carefully, though keep in mind that Forte was active last week and the bulk of the work went to Bilal Powell. We might see the same this week. That, combined with bad football being played by the Jets means we'd likely pass on Forte as too risky.

IND - WR Donte Moncrief in action again

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Zak Keefer

Indianapolis Colts WR Donte Moncrief (hamstring) is practicing again Thursday, Dec. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We expect Moncrief to play, which is good for Andrew Luck. That said, we're not expecting a big day from Moncrief as the offensive line is bad enough to likely hurt Luck's chances to go deep to him. He's a middle of the road receiver this week.

LA - WR Kenny Britt logs full practice

    Source: TheRams.com

Los Angeles Rams WR Kenny Britt (shoulder) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Britt isn't a great start, but he's had decent games three out of the last four weeks and if we were in a bind and needed upside, he could be useful. Keep your expectations humble, but his upside is attractive.

SF - WR Torrey Smith sits out practice

    Source: 49ers.com

San Francisco 49ers WR Torrey Smith (concussion) did not practice Thursday, Dec. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Even if he did play, would you start him? The only guy even remotely worth anything—and in his case 'anything' means a what the heck flex—is Jeremy Kerley. This offense holds nothing more than heartache for any owner who starts a member in a Championship week.

OAK - WR Amari Cooper still limited

    Source: Raiders.com
Oakland Raiders WR Amari Cooper (shoulder) remained a limited participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cooper has had two straight bad games, and this is the second December in a row where he pulled a quick fade. The matchup is prime, but we're concerned he will have another middling game, so if you play him, keep the 57 yards and no touchdowns on six catches and 13 targets in mind and expect more of the same.

MIA - QB Ryan Tannehill doesn't practice

    Source: MiamiDolphins.com

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) did not practice Thursday, Dec. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tannehill might be back for the playoffs, if the Dolphins can make it there. Matt Moore will keep the starting job, but he's not a great fantasy choice this week against a tough Bills defense fighting for its coach's job.

BUF - WR Sammy Watkins limited at practice

    Source: BuffaloBills.com

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watkins foot is still an issue, whatever else the medical reports might say. That, combined with being stuck in a run-centered offense and facing a tough defense makes for a middle-of-the-road receiver start in all formats. He isn't terrible, but his ceiling is awfully low and his floor is as well.

BUF - TE Charles Clay still limited

    Source: BuffaloBills.com
Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) remained a limited participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 22.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Clay is an intriguing option this week, notably in PPR leagues where the extra one or two catches he gets will vault him over some other choices. With back to back weeks with touchdowns, he also has some nice upside coming into this game.

LA - QB Jared Goff cleared and will start vs. SF

    Source: TheRams.com - Myles Simmons

Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff (concussion) has cleared the concussion protocol and will start the team's Week 16 game Saturday, Dec. 24, against the San Francisco 49ers, according to interim head coach John Fassel.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Goff has a long way to go before being a safe starter or a viable fantasy player. Even though the matchup is a solid one, he shouldn't be in anyone's lineups.

NE - No practice for WR Danny Amendola

    Source: WEEI.com - Christopher Price

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (ankle) did not practice Thursday, Dec. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We don't expect Amendola to play this week and he's far down enough in the pecking order to where we don't think he would be safe to start anyway.

NE - TE Martellus Bennett still limited

    Source: WEEI.com - Christopher Price

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (ankle, shoulder) was limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'd avoid Bennett if it wasn't for the fact that the New York Jets have no way to stop a tight end. Any tight end going against them is a sure-fire starter. The injury gives us a little pause, but otherwise the entire situation screams "start him."

BAL - WR Steve Smith added to injury report

    Source:

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (thigh) was limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Smith is facing a tough overall defense, but should serve as a solid middle of the road type receiver. Joe Flacco will look for him often but the Steelers will keep his overall ceiling lower than we'd like.

SD - Full practice for Tyrell Williams

    Source: ClevelandBrowns.com

San Diego Chargers WR Tyrell Williams (shoulder) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams is super hot and cold right now. After back to back weeks with touchdowns, he hasn't found the end zone, and has struggled to get targets, receptions or yards. Williams is feast or famine and you are playing with fire if you depend on him.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed does not practice

Source: The Washington Post - Mike Jones

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (shoulder) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 22.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Reed should be a solid, but not spectacular, play this week assuming he can keep himself from punching someone in the facemask. Chicago is tough on tight ends, so he's not a top play, but Reed has some upside.

MIN - WR Stefon Diggs limited

    Source: Vikings.com

Minnesota Vikings WR Stefon Diggs (hip) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Diggs hasn't been a focal point in this offense for weeks and hasn't cracked 100 yards since Week 10. He hasn't hit the end zone in even longer. What we're saying is, don't start him. There is very little upside.

HOU - RB Lamar Miller sits again

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson
Houston Texans RB Lamar Miller (ankle) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
You can bump up Alfred Blue if Miller doesn't practice tomorrow. We wouldn't nearly as much as we'd like Miller but if you are in a tough spot we think you could plug him in as a patch-play. It's the championship for most redraft folks though, so we'd try and find a more reliable option.

DET - RB Theo Riddick not practicing

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick (wrist) is not participating in practice Thursday, Dec. 22, but is working with trainers on the sidelines.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If Riddick plays, he'll be facing a bad matchup in the person of the Dallas Cowboys. The Lions backfield has been less than awesome this season, so we would avoid them as anything more than a hail mary play in desperation. We'd also do it with out eyes closed and holding our nose.

CAR - TE Greg Olsen practicing

    Source: ESPN.com - David Newton

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (elbow) is participating in practice Thursday, Dec. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Olsen and the entire Panthers passing offense has improved the last few weeks and while we are still not all on board the Olsen Train again, he should be a very nice start against the woeful Atlanta Falcons defense.

    Saturday Update

ATL - Full practice for WR Julio Jones

    Source: NFL

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 23, and is not on the injury report for Week 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones is back in action, and he should be in fantasy lineups. He's as close to full strength as he's going to get at this time of year, and facing a young/inexperienced set of Panthers cornerbacks we're expecting Jones to have a good day.

CIN - WR A.J. Green practices in full

    Source: Bengals.com

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (hamstring) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 23, and is listed as questionable for Week 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Green should be back on the field this week for the Bengals. Fantasy owners should consider starting him, but know that he may not post his typical WR1 numbers in his first game back. He's been out of action with a Grade 2 hamstring injury and hasn't played since Week 11.

PHI - RB Ryan Mathews done for the season

    Source: NFL.com - Jeremy Bergman

Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Mathews (back) has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a herniated disc during the team's Week 16 win over the New York Giants and will miss 'significant time', according to head coach Doug Pederson, who added his running back will need surgery.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mathews has had more than his fair share of injury problems during his pro career. This injury could impact what he can do at least at the start of 2017. The Eagles only have Byron Marshall and Darren Sproles on the active roster. Practice squad runner Terrell Watson could get the call up for the final week of the season.

NYJ - RB Matt Forte doubtful for Week 16

    Source: NFL

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (knee, shoulder) did not participate in practice Friday, Dec. 23, and is listed as doubtful for Week 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bilal Powell was a good starting option even if Forte plays. Now that it looks like Forte is down, Powell is even better.

PIT - TE Ladarius Green unlikely to play

    Source: Steelers.com

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green (concussion) did not participate in practice Friday, Dec. 23, and is listed as doubtful for Week 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Steelers have to look for a new third weapon on offense. Le'Veon Bell and Antonio Brown should get plenty of action against the Ravens, and a third weapon could emerge in slot WR Eli Rogers.

HOU - RB Lamar Miller questionable for Week 16

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans RB Lamar Miller (ankle) is listed as questionable to play in the team's Week 16 game Saturday, Dec. 24, versus the Cincinnati Bengals.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Miller was banged up late against the Jaguars last week. Over the last three weeks, the Bengals have only allowed 106.3 rushing yards per game. That's middle of the pack. Miller's injury and this matchup makes him somewhat of a risky fantasy play.

DET - RB Theo Riddick a no-go in practice Friday

    Source: ESPN.com - Michael Rothstein

Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick (wrist) was running on the side but did not participate in the open portion of practice Friday, Dec. 23.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's unclear whether or not Riddick is going to play on Monday night against the Lions, but he's not trending in the right direction. The Lions could use Dwayne Washington and Zach Zenner more with Riddick out.

JAX - QB Blake Bortles not tied to next coach

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles will not be tied to the next head coach as general manager David Caldwell said there's no mandate for the new coach about what to do at quarterback. Caldwell said he still believes in Bortles.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jaguars already (basically) chose Bortles over Gus Bradley. He may not be tied to the next coach, but it would be wise to find a coach who can work best with Bortles. His mechanics are shot, so any new staff is going to have to try and rebuild Bortles from the ground up.

TB - QB Mike Glennon could cash in

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent QB Mike Glennon could receive $13-$15 million per year on his next contract depending on the number of teams bidding.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We could see that happening. Only 27 years old, Glennon has looked like a solid starter when under center with the Bucs. He hasn't taken many snaps since Tampa selected Jameis Winston with the first-overall pick in 2015, but Glennon is going to be high on the priority list of teams looking for free agent help at quarterback. He's tossed 30 touchdowns and 15 interceptions during his pro career.

BUF - Re-signing WR Robert Woods a priority

Source: WGR Sports Radio 550 - Sal Capaccio

Buffalo Bills impending free-agent WR Robert Woods will be atop the team's offseason priority list, according to general manager Doug Whaley.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A second-round pick in 2013, Woods hasn't played up to his potential as a pro. The Bills should be able to get him for a good price if they want to retain his services. Woods has sticky hands and can get open, but injuries and inconsistencies have plagued his pro career.

NYJ - QB Christian Hackenberg could be active

Source: New York Daily News - Daniel Popper

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg could be active in Week 16 as head coach Todd Bowles said he could activate three quarterbacks with QB Bryce Petty (chest) banged up.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hackenberg may be the quarterback of the future for the Jets, but we're not counting on it. He's got a big arm, but accuracy and decision making need to be improved if he's ever going to be a decent starter in the pros.

The Bucs have described Doug Martin's Week 16 healthy scratch as a "coach's decision."

There was no illness or pre-game injury. The Bucs have simply decided Martin isn't one of their three best running backs as they seek a playoff spot. They'll roll with Charles Sims, Jacquizz Rodgers and Peyton Barber against the Saints. Rodgers should be the primary option on early downs, but Sims is the favorite to lead in touches. Martin has really struggled since returning from his hamstring injury, but it's still a stunning, playing-with-fire decision.

    Sunday Update

OAK - QB Derek Carr has broken fibula

    Source: FOXSports.com - Jay Glazer

Updating a previous report, Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (fibula) suffered a broken fibula in the Week 16 game against the Indianapolis Colts and he will require surgery, ending his season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Matt McGloin will be the starter for the Raiders as they play the Broncos on the road in Week 17. It's a huge gut punch for the Raiders as they had designs of making a deep postseason run. They'll make the playoffs, but how far they go will depend on McGloin.

TEN - QB Marcus Mariota fractures fibula

Source: The Tennessean - Jim Wyatt

Updating a previous report, Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (leg) suffered a fractured fibula in the Week 16 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, head coach Mike Mularkey confirmed Sunday, Dec. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bad news for the Titans here....made worse as Matt Cassel is their backup quarterback. Mariota's right ankle was placed in an air cast. The Titans, trying to win the AFC South and get into the postseason, were walloped by the Jaguars 38-17 on Saturday.

DAL - WR Dez Bryant listed as questionable

    Source: DetroitLions.com

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (back) fully participated in practice Saturday, Dec. 24, and is listed as questionable for Week 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bryant's chemistry with rookie QB Dak Prescott is hit or miss sometimes, but he's trending in the right direction after posting eight catches for 82 yards against the Bucs last week. The Lions top CB Darius Slay (hamstring) is doubtful this week, so Bryant becomes an even more attractive option for some fantasy punch on Monday night.

DET - RB Theo Riddick doubtful

    Source: DetroitLions.com

Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick (wrist) did not participate in practice Saturday, Dec. 24, and is listed as doubtful for Week 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Lions don't run the ball well anyway, but losing Riddick does hurt the offense as he's such a fine receiver out of the backfield. Dwayne Washington and Zach Zenner will get a larger workload with Riddick down for the Monday night game against the Cowboys.

CAR - TE Greg Olsen makes NFL history

    Source: The Associated Press

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen finished with a team-high six receptions for 59 yards on 12 targets in the Week 16 game against the Atlanta Falcons.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He became the first tight end in NFL history to record 1,000 receiving yards in three straight seasons. Olsen could tie a record with four 1,000 yard seasons for a tight end next season.

ATL - WR Julio Jones limited to 60 yards

    Source: The Associated Press

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe) was able to return to the lineup in Week 16 against the Carolina Panthers after missing two games. He posted four catches for 60 yards on seven targets.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones was back, and he was in a lot of championship lineups. He didn't set the world on fire, but he did enough to justify taking a risk on him in his first week returning from injury. With the Falcons marching towards another playoff run, having a healthy Jones will greatly help.

SEA - WR Tyler Lockett suffers ugly injury

    Source: Seahawks.com

Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett (leg) suffered a gruesome leg injury in the first half of the Week 16 game against the Arizona Cardinals.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hide your eyes. It was Joe Theismann bad to see Lockett's leg basically snap. He held onto the catch, but it ended up not being a touchdown. A tough injury for a young WR who has battled injuries in his sophomore season.

JAX - WR Allen Robinson finally wakes up

    Source: The Associated Press

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Robinson posted nine receptions for a season-high 147 yards on 12 targets in the Week 16 game against the Tennessee Titans.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There was no need or sign to rely on Robinson this week, but if you did then he came through. Robinson came into the week as a WR3/flex option and finished with WR1 production.

JAX - RB Chris Ivory totals 114 yards, TD

    Source: The Associated Press

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Chris Ivory rushed 14 times for 45 yards and a touchdown in the Week 16 game against the Tennessee Titans and he added four receptions for 69 yards on six targets.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
T.J. Yeldon was banged up and left the game against the Titans early. That meant more opportunity for Ivory, and he ran hard (of course).

MIA - RB Jay Ajayi rushes for over 200 yards

    Source: NFL.com

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi rushed for 206 yards and one touchdown on 32 carries against the Buffalo Bills in Week 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ajayi went down late in overtime with a shoulder injury. Early reports indicate it was a sprained AC joint, but Ajayi is expressing confidence in his availability. Overlooked for much of his time with the Dolphins, Ajayi got an opportunity this year after Arian Foster was banged up and the young back came through with a great season. Fantasy owners who got the championship because of Ajayi were rewarded with his third 200-yard rushing game of the season.

SD - TE Antonio Gates finishing up strong

    Source: The Associated Press

San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates posted game highs with eight receptions and 94 yards on 13 targets in the Week 16 game against the Cleveland Browns. He also scored a touchdown.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gates also had another end zone target in this game, but the pass was incomplete (and there was a pass interference penalty). He's got one more week to break the all-time touchdown record for tight ends currently held by Tony Gonzales.

CLE - RG3 leaves win with concussion

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III (concussion) left the Week 16 game against the San Diego Chargers due to concussion and he was unable to return.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cody Kessler came in the game for the Browns after Griffin was knocked from the contest. We'll see if Griffin can clear the concussion protocol for Week 17.

NE - TE Martellus Bennett catches touchdown

    Source: NFL.com

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett caught two passes for 19 yards and one touchdown against the New York Jets in Week 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The touchdown helps his fantasy day, and it's probably enough for fantasy owners who started Bennett on Saturday.

NYJ - RB Bilal Powell has decent outing

    Source: NFL.com
New York Jets RB Bilal Powell rushed for 60 yards on 15 carries against the New England Patriots in Week 16. He also caught two passes for 14 yards during the game.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Powell was likely in your lineup as a RB2 or even as a flex play. He did enough, but there could have been more there on the ground. The Jets fell behind and went away from the rushing attack to try and catch up to the Pats.

    Monday Update

SF - RB Carlos Hyde has torn MCL

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde (knee) suffered a torn medial collateral ligament in Week 16 and will not be able to play in Week 17, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hyde has transcended the abysmal product the 49ers have put on the field this year. With even some incremental improvement in the offense, Hyde could be an RB1 next year.

TB - RB Doug Martin benching explained

Source: The Associated Press - Bradley Handwerger

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin was inactive against the New Orleans Saints in Week 16 because head coach Dirk Koetter believed RB Jacquizz Rodgers would be a better fit for the matchup, and Koetter said it was a 'decision for today.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's not a very satisfying "explanation". At the very least, Koetter's showing Martin's not a guy they have much faith in.

MIN - RB Jerick McKinnon helps in run, pass game

    Source: NFL.com

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon rushed for 50 yards on 11 carries against the Green Bay Packers in Week 16. He also caught five passes for 35 yards during the game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McKinnon could inherit a starting role next year with Adrian Peterson carrying an 18 million price tag. He'll be a player to watch for value growth in dynasty leagues.

HOU - RB Lamar Miller unsure of status for finale

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans RB Lamar Miller (ankle) said he is not sure if he will play in Week 17 since the team has already clinched a playoff spot. He said he is not dealing with a long-term injury and probably could play if he was needed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Miller has lived down to the worries about his ability to stay healthy and effective under a feature back workload, but he wasn't helped by Brock Osweiler's atrocious play. He was a disappointment this year but could bounce back if Texans quarterback improves just a little bit next year.

MIA - QB Ryan Tannehill out of cast

Source: The Miami Herald - Adam H. Beasley

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) is no longer wearing a cast on his leg and is able to walk around without crutches. Tannehill hopes to be ready for the wild card round of the playoffs if the Dolphins clinch a playoff spot.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Dolphins are looking likely to be playing in the wild card round, so Tannehill's return will be a big Week 1 story. He could earn his first playoff victory, especially if he goes to Houston to face Tom Savage.

MIA - RB Jay Ajayi injures shoulder

Source: The Miami Herald - Adam H. Beasley

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi (shoulder) suffered an AC joint sprain during the team's Week 16 game but expects to play in Week 17.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ajayi might not be playing for a playoff berth if the Dolphins get some help today, but he is still likely to bring the same hard-charging style that has notched an instant legend season with three 200-yard games.

BUF - WR Sammy Watkins expects to play

Source: The Buffalo News - Jay Skurski

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) said he expects to play against the New York Jets in Week 17 even though the team has been eliminated from playoff contention.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watkins came alive to reward anyone who trusted him in the fantasy finals after a quiet return to the field. He's a DFS and Week 17 Super Bowl strong consideration against the Jets defense, while has been near non-existent lately.

CLE - QB Robert Griffin III unsure for Week 17

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III (concussion) suffered a concussion Saturday, Dec. 24, against the San Diego Chargers. His status for the regular-season finale is not known.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Griffin can at least say he led the team to a win, but this year was not a step in the right direction for him. He's likely stuck on the backup circuit now.

JAX - Tom Coughlin to interview this week

    Source: NFL.com - Conor Orr

Tom Coughlin will interview this week with the Jacksonville Jaguars. It is unsure whether the interview is for the head coach spot or for a 'football czar' front-office job, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Coughlin could tighten up a team culture that has tolerating losing, but now the franchise appears to need a quarterback, so it could be a long road back no matter what Coughlin decides.

LA - Sean Payton interested in LA?

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton reportedly has some interest in the open Los Angeles Rams position. Payton's daughter lives on the West Coast.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This could only improve Todd Gurley's prospects, and Payton would know what to do with Tavon Austin. The quarterback could be a limiting issue, but owners of any Rams players in dynasty leagues should be rooting for this, while it's a development that could hurt the Saints passing juggernaut.

NYJ - QB Bryce Petty to undergo MRI exam

    Source: NFL.com

Updating previous reports, New York Jets QB Bryce Petty (shoulder) will undergo an MRI exam on his injured left shoulder Monday, Dec. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jets quarterback play was the worst in the league last week, so we're probably benching all of our Jets receivers in Week 17 Super Bowls no matter who the quarterback is.
