NFL Player News - Week of 8/29/16

CIN - WR A.J. Green Knee Injury Reportedly Not Serious Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Bengals wideout A.J. Green suffered a right knee injury during the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Jaguars. The team reported it as not serious.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stay tuned on this one. The team says it's not serious but with a player being drafted where Green's being drafted, keep it on your radar. We'll be watching Monday to see if anything more develops.

SD - RB Branden Oliver suffers achilles injury

    Source: NFL.com

San Diego Chargers RB Branden Oliver (Achilles') suffered an Achilles' tendon injury during the preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings Sunday, Aug. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dreamius Smith and Kenneth Farrow are the next men up and one of them is going to win an opening day roster spot unless the Chargers bring in a veteran released by another team. Oliver is a good all-around back and he was poised to have value if Danny Woodhead or Melvin Gordon got hurt this year.

BAL - RB Kenneth Dixon's injury not serious

    Source: NFL.com

Updating previous reports, Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said RB Kenneth Dixon's (knee) sprained knee isn't considered overly serious.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dixon will probably only miss a few weeks if he misses any regular season time. He's probably the best all-around back on the Ravens roster, but it would take at least one if not two injuries to put him in a position to have consistent fantasy value. The Ravens backfield is the most difficult to project in the NFL.

NYJ - Jets sheds 11 from roster

    Source: NewYorkJets.com - Eric Allen

The New York Jets released RB Lache Seastrunk, PK Ross Martin, OL Jesse Davis, C Kyle Friend, OG Jarvis Harrison, LB Deion Barnes, DT Shelby Harris, DE Helva Matungulu, RB Terry Williams, TE Jason Vander Laan and WR Kyle Williams.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With the release of Martin, Nick Folk is officially the winner of a kicker battle that was probably over weeks ago. Seastrunk's intriguing suddenness and elusiveness in the open field has failed to make a roster yet again.

PHI - WR Chris Givens released by Philadelphia

Source: NFL Network - Rand Getlin

Philadelphia Eagles WR Chris Givens was released by the team Sunday, Aug. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Givens and Rueben Randle were vying for outside receiver spots on a weak depth chart, but the acquisition of Dorial Green-Beckham spelled their doom after weak summers. UDFA Paul Turner has had a great summer and could make the team in Givens/Randle's place.

MIA - CB Xavien Howard should start

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins CB Xavien Howard is expected to start against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1, according to The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Howard has barely played a lick this summer, but the Dolphins are that desperate to get second-year wide receiver convert Tony Lippett off of the field at corner. Russell Wilson should be picking on the rookie all afternoon in a trend that will continue until Howard shows he can hang. Byron Maxwell is on the other side of the defense, and his assignment will likely see fewer targets.

IND - Jack Mewhort not out long

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Indianapolis Colts OG Jack Mewhort (knee) will only miss two to four weeks after suffering a knee injury Saturday, Aug. 27, against the Philadelphia Eagles.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Colts can breathe a sigh of relief with this news, but their offensive line is still a mess on the right side and their cornerstone left tackle Anthony Costanzo is having a rough summer. Andrew Luck's nightmarish 2015 was due in part to offensive line play, so we'll watch this closely in Week 1 against the Lions.

SD - Joe Barksdale suffers injury

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Michael Gehlken

San Diego Chargers OT Joe Barksdale (ankle) suffered an ankle injury during the preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings Sunday, Aug. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Barksdale said he is fine and would have returned if it was the regular season after the game. This means the Chargers line that had so many injury issues last year dodged a bullet today.

NE - WR Danny Amendola may stay on PUP list

Source: The Boston Globe - Ben Volin

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (ankle, knee) has not done much during practice since the start of training camp and could start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list, which would keep him out for at least the first six weeks of the season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rookie Malcolm Mitchell could get on the field a little more if Amendola stays on the PUP. The wide receiver to watch in fantasy leagues is Chris Hogan. Hogan should be on the field in all two wide sets, and that includes when Amendola returns.

DAL - QB Tony Romo to wear back brace

    Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) will be wearing a back brace during his recovery from the compression fracture in his vertebra. Head coach Jason Garrett is not giving a timetable for Romo's return.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No matter what timetable is given, Romo is going to still be one of the biggest injury risks at quarterback when he does get on the field. He's not worth drafting or rostering except in two quarterback and superflex leagues.

DAL - WR Dez Bryant will be limited

Source: The Dallas Morning News - Brandon George

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (concussion) will be limited to individual drills during practice Sunday, Aug. 28, because he has not been fully cleared by the medical staff.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bryant's concussion and the loss of Tony Romo may make first-round drafters pause if he is their top selection when they are on the clock. Allen Robinson is one of the best alternatives if Bryant is moving down a spot or two on your board. Dak Prescott has still left the Cowboys in better shape at quarterback than we could have expected a month ago.

SEA - Germain Ifedi will start as rookie

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks OG Germain Ifedi will be the starting right guard this season.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ifedi has been solid in pass protection and along with center Justin Britt should be one of the brighter spots on an offensive line that is being rebuilt once again.

LA - QB Jared Goff injury update

Source: Denver7 Sports - Troy Renck

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff (tailbone) said he suffered a bruised tailbone during the preseason game against the Denver Broncos Saturday, Aug. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Goff has had a very rough summer and looks like the type of rookie quarterback who should have a year in the incubator before he sees the field in the regular season. 2015 third-rounder Sean Mannion might not be more prepared to play, so the Rams need to hope Case Keenum stays on the field.

DEN - WR Cody Latimer to undergo MRI exam

    Source: NFL.com

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos WR Cody Latimer (knee) is expected to undergo an MRI exam on his knee Sunday, Aug. 28, although the injury is not believed to be serious. He is considered to be day-to-day.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Latimer had built some momentum over the summer, but he was still on the outside looking in for three wide receiver sets. With the Broncos likely having an anemic passing game this year, Latimer is getting close to the cut line in shallow dynasty leagues.

LA - RB Todd Gurley rested in loss

    Source: The Associated Press

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley was held out of the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 27, against the Denver Broncos.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Rams decided to rest Gurley -- and avoid having him go up against the league's best (and most physical) defense. He'll likely be held out of the team's fourth preseason game, and Gurley should be more than ready to rock in Week 1 of the regular season.

NYJ - WR Brandon Marshall nursing sore hip

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

Updating a previous report, New York Jets WR Brandon Marshall (hip) was held out of the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 27, against the New York Giants due to a sore hip, head coach Todd Bowles said. The decision was made Friday, Aug. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Marshall will likely be out of the fourth preseason game as well because he's a Pro Bowl caliber player who doesn't need to play in that contest. Even though he has a sore hip now, all signs point to Marshall being good to go for Week 1.

OAK - RB Latavius Murray's job not in question

Source: San Francisco Chronicle - Vic Tafur

Oakland Raiders RB Latavius Murray had a limited role in the team's third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 27, against the Tennessee Titans, but head coach Jack Del Rio said it is not indicative of Murray's job being in question. 'We saw him last year. We need to find out who will be the backup,' Del Rio said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Murray is the lead man for the Raiders, and he's got RB2 written all over him for fantasy owners. His backup should be rookie DeAndre Washington. He's a compact runner who isn't afraid to run between the tackles, and Washington is elusive and quick in the open field. Consider Washington a late-round 'lottery ticket' pick for your fantasy squad.

DEN - QB Mark Sanchez doesn't play vs. LA

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Denver Broncos QB Mark Sanchez did not play in the team's third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 27, against the Los Angeles Rams.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We think this is a clear sign the team has no intention of keeping him on the 53-man roster. They didn't play him because they likely don't want to get him hurt. If the team elects to cut him, they save $4.5 million and a seventh-round draft pick.

DET - RB Ameer Abdullah makes preseason debut

    Source: NFL.com

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah (shoulder) made his preseason debut Saturday, Aug. 27, against the Baltimore Ravens after missing the first two games. He ran four times for 16 yards and did not have any receptions.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Abdullah is a RB3 in our eyes. He's not built for a huge workload, and the Lions are likely to limit his touches anyway. They've got Zach Zenner as a power back for short-yardage situations, and Theo Riddick is one of the best receiving backs in the game. Abdullah has a current ADP of RB33 (7.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

PHI - QB Sam Bradford makes his statement

    Source: NFL.com

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford completed 17 of his 20 pass attempts for 167 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 27, against the Indianapolis Colts.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's a preseason game against a team who has a defense that can be best categorized as a work in progress. Bradford doesn't get us excited -- as fantasy analysts or football fans. However, the veteran is going to start for the Eagles in 2016. With rookie first-round pick Carson Wentz being developed slowly, we could see Bradford as the Eagles QB for the whole season.

    Tuesday Update

ARI - Headaches linger for WR John Brown

Source: The Arizona Republic - Kent Somers

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown (concussion) is still having headaches, but he is making progress, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners need to monitor this situation. Brown's concussion problems have lingered for most of the month. That's not a good sign, and he may not be available by the start of the regular season. If Brown is out, then expect more from Jaron Brown and J.J. Nelson in his place.

GB - WR Jordy Nelson practices in full

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (knee) fully participated in practice Monday, Aug. 29. Nelson said he does not expect to play in the final preseason game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're so glad to hear this. Nelson's health is the key for the Packers passing game. If he's his old self, the Packers should be able to light it up through the air. We like Nelson as a low-end WR1 in 2016, and Nelson's currently coming off the board at WR11 (2.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

WAS - RB Matt Jones making good progress

    Source: Redskins.com

Washington Redskins RB Matt Jones (shoulder) is progressing nicely, according to head coach Jay Gruden. Jones is dealing with a shoulder sprain.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The original plan was to have Jones ready for Week 1 of the regular season. It seems like that's on track. Washington would have to start Rob Kelley if Jones ends up missing their first contest.

DEN - QB Trevor Siemian named the starter

    Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis

Denver Broncos QB Trevor Siemian was informed he won the starting quarterback position and will start against the Carolina Panthers Sept. 8.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The writing was on the wall when Siemian was named the starter for the team's third preseason game last week. Siemian has a strong arm, but he's lacked touch and accuracy at times in limited preseason reps. He's the starter for now, but expect rookie first-round pick Paxton Lynch to be in the lineup sooner rather than later. Fantasy owners should be avoiding the Broncos QB situation. This team is going to be one of the most run-heavy offenses in the entire NFL. The QBs (Siemian or Lynch) will be limited on the field.

DAL - QB Mark Sanchez not trade target for Dallas

Source: NFL Network - Jane Slater

Denver Broncos QB Mark Sanchez is not a trade option for the Dallas Cowboys if they have to accept his current contract. The Broncos have approached the Cowboys about a possible trade involving Sanchez.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's not a surprise given Sanchez's $4.5 million price tag. There's $1 million guaranteed on the deal, and that's enough to keep teams away. The Broncos could ask Sanchez to take a pay cut if they can't get rid of him via trade and don't want to cut him.

ATL - WR Julio Jones should practice soon

    Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (ankle) did not participate in practice Monday, Aug. 29, but should be able to practice Wednesday, Aug. 31, or Monday, Sept. 5, at the latest, according to head coach Dan Quinn. Jones is not expected to play in the final preseason game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones was banged up in the third preseason game, but the team kept him out of action as a precaution. He's a top-3 pick in any format for fantasy owners.

SF - QB Colin Kaepernick on chopping block?

    Source: FOXSports.com - Jay Glazer

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick faces a 'very big uphill battle' to make the 53-man roster, according to Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kaepernick may not make the team for football reasons according to most reports. He's struggled to quickly recover after undergoing three offseason surgeries, and the 49ers could move forward with Blaine Gabbert as their starter.

HOU - WR Will Fuller finds the end zone

    Source: The Associated Press

Houston Texans WR Will Fuller had three catches for 67 yards and a touchdown in a 34-24 preseason win over the Arizona Cardinals Sunday, Aug. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fuller has set himself up as a strong sleeper in the late rounds of deeper drafts. He could be boom/bust week-to-week and the Texans offensive line is still a question mark, but Fuller's vertical speed means he can make your fantasy week on any one play.

CHI - WR Eddie Royal cleared

    Source: ESPNChicago.com - Jeff Dickerson

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (concussion) participated in practice Monday, Aug. 29, after he passed all of his concussion tests. Head coach John Fox said he is not sure if Royal will play in the final preseason game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We don't think Royal should play in that game. He's a seasoned pro who doesn't need preseason reps in the fourth contest. Royal should be the team's no.3 WR behind Alshon Jeffery and Kevin White. His fantasy value is limited by his role.

HOU - DE J.J. Watt could play Week 1

Source: Houston Chronicle - John McClain

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (back) is progressing well and may be ready to play by Week 1, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Perhaps Watt could play in Week 1 but in a limited role. Back injuries are tricky, and the team doesn't want to aggravate the injury.

DEN - QB Paxton Lynch will play full game

Source: NFL Network - James Palmer

Denver Broncos QB Paxton Lynch will play the entire game against the Arizona Cardinals Thursday, Sept. 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's no surprise given the team may not retain Mark Sanchez. We've already learned that Trevor Siemian is the starter for Week 1 against the Panthers, and there's no need to risk injury in a meaningless preseason game.

WAS - RB Keith Marshall may go on IR

    Source: Redskins.com

Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins RB Keith Marshall (elbow) may be placed on the Reserve/Injured list, according to head coach Jay Gruden. Marshall will miss three weeks with a sprained elbow.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Marshall suffered a major knee injury during his college career at Georgia and was never quite the same player he was when he came out of high school as one of the best backs in the country. The injury bug has followed him to the pros with this latest problem. With Marshall down, Washington will turn to Rob Kelley. There's a chance that Kelley could start Week 1 if Matt Jones (shoulder) isn't quite ready.

SD - DE Joey Bosa signs

    Source: NFL.com

San Diego Chargers rookie DE Joey Bosa signed his four-year deal Monday, Aug. 29. Bosa's four-year deal is worth $25.8 million, according to a source. The contract is fully guaranteed and comes with a $17 million signing bonus.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Finally! The two sides had to come together on the offset language and salary deferment. With less than two weeks to go until the start of the regular season, Bosa may have to begin his pro career as a part-time player. Bosa will have to get up to speed quickly, and it will take a bit for him to get into football shape even though he's reportedly been working out on his own during this holdout.

PHI - QB Carson Wentz likely out for finale

    Source: CSNPhilly.com - Dave Zangaro

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (ribs) will likely miss the preseason finale after a CT scan revealed one of his ribs is only 60% healed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We won't see Wentz this season if the Eagles have it their way. Sam Bradford will be the starter and unless he gets hurt or struggles mightily, he should keep the job for the year. Wentz is clearly the future for the team, but a year of developing behind Bradford (and Chase Daniel) wouldn't hurt.

BAL - Two Ravens TEs on the mend

    Source: WNST.net - Luke Jones

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (finger) and TE Maxx Williams (undisclosed) are expected to return to practice shortly after the final preseason game Thursday, Sept. 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Ravens lost TE Ben Watson for the year this weekend, so getting these two back in action helps a lot. Williams is the future at the position, and he reminds many in the scouting community of a young Jason Witten. Pitta was still working his way back from a near career-ending hip injury when this finger injury happened. He hasn't played since early in the 2014 season.

SD - RB Danny Woodhead would like long-term deal

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Michael Gehlken

San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead would like a long-term deal with the club but contract talks have been unproductive, and he is now focusing on the upcoming season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Chargers aren't known as a team who throws around money, so it's not surprising nothing has yet been done with Woodhead.

OAK - WR Michael Crabtree improving chemistry

Source: San Francisco Chronicle - Vic Tafur

Oakland Raiders WR Michael Crabtree said he has been practicing all the routes during practice and continues to improve his chemistry with QB Derek Carr.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Crabtree showed well last year with the Raiders, and he's looking to do even more this season. We like him as a WR4 for fantasy owners in PPR leagues. His current ADP is WR37 (7.10) in 12-team leagues.

    Wednesday Update

MIN - QB Teddy Bridgewater has torn ACL Source: VikingsWire.USAToday.com - Neal Coolong

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and other structural damage as a result of a non-contact injury in practice Tuesday, Aug. 30, and he also has a dislocated knee. An MRI confirmed the injuries. He did not suffer any nerve or arterial damage, however. He will have surgery within the next few days, but is expected to miss the 2016 season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If there's an upside, it happened in August to give him more time to recover for next season. And there's no nerve damage which is a huge positive. The team will turn to Shaun Hill for now and we'll see if they make a move for another QB.

SF - WR Bruce Ellington lands on the IR

    Source: ESPN - Adam Caplan

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington (hamstring) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Aug. 30. He is out for the season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There goes an interesting dynasty prospect, down for the year. Ellington could work well as a slot receiver in Chip Kelly's system, but now we'll have to wait and see if he can make a comeback next year. It looks like Jeremy Kerley could be the team's slot WR in 2016.

WAS - RB Keith Marshall done for season

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins rookie RB Keith Marshall (elbow) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Aug. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A seventh-round pick out of Georgia this year, Marshall was an intriguing dynasty prospect. This elbow injury wasn't supposed to be that serious, but perhaps Washington just wanted to clear up a roster spot. Without Marshall in the backfield, UDFA Rob Kelley is going to be the primary backup behind Matt Jones. Washington could always bring in another RB if need be.

NYJ - WR Brandon Marshall injury not a big deal

    Source: NewYorkJets.com - Eric Allen

New York Jets WR Brandon Marshall's (hip) injury to his hip is not a concern, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Just like we thought. Marshall is being held out of practice, and he's not going to play in the team's fourth preseason game. He should be good to go for Week 1 of the regular season, and you'll start him at his normal WR1 level.

Moore is now down for the year, and Cowboys are scrambling to find QB depth. Dak Prescott will start while Tony Romo is out with a back injury. While Romo is out, the Cowboys need to find a backup behind Prescott.

PIT - TE Ladarius Green goes to PUP list

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday, Aug. 30, meaning he will miss the first six games of the season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Green has never really played up to his potential in the pros due to injury and inconsistency. His first season with the Steelers is starting off poorly with this ankle problem. While Green is out, the Steelers will turn to Jesse James as their pass-catching TE.

NFL - QB T.J. Yates cleared to play

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Free-agent QB T.J. Yates (Texans) has been fully cleared after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament last season, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A team that could show interest in Yates is Denver -- especially if (when?) they cut Mark Sanchez. Yates came up under Gary Kubiak during his time in Houston. He knows the system, and Yates would give the Broncos a veteran presence behind starter Trevor Siemian and future starter Paxton Lynch.

SF - QB Colin Kaepernick to play in finale

    Source: 49ers.com

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick will play in the preseason finale, and QB Blaine Gabbert will sit out, according to head coach Chip Kelly.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kaepernick has an opportunity to showcase what talent he has at this point in his career. He's fallen behind Gabbert in the competition at QB, mainly because Kaepernick spent most of the offseason recovering from three different surgeries. We'll see if he can be a difference maker in this game.

ATL - WR Julio Jones still idle

    Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (ankle) remains out of practice Tuesday, Aug. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

All reports indicate the injury is minor, and the team is just being cautious. We should see Jones ready for the start of the regular season, and we are all going to start him as a WR1.

NO - QB Drew Brees likely to play a quarter

Source: The New Orleans Times-Picayune - Larry Holder

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees is likely to play one quarter in the preseason finale Thursday, Sept. 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's been 10 years since Brees played in a preseason finale. We're shocked Payton has made this decision. The coach must feel his offense needs to show a bit more before the start of the regular season.

TEN - QB Marcus Mariota might play Thursday

Source: The Tennessean - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota might play a series against the Miami Dolphins in the preseason finale Thursday, Sept. 1, head coach Mike Mularkey said Monday, Aug. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mariota is a young QB, so added time playing against an opponent can be of value but we don't think he needs to play much if at all in the preseason finale. Mariota may get pulled quickly, then Matt Cassel and Alex Tanney will take over the QB duties.

TEN - WR Kendall Wright expects to be ready

Source: The Tennessean - Jim Wyatt

Updating a previous report, Tennessee Titans WR Kendall Wright (hamstring) said Monday, Aug. 29, that he is feeling better and he thinks he will be ready to play in the team's Week 1 opener. Wright will not play in the preseason finale Thursday, Sept. 1.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Even if Wright plays, don't expect a lot from him. Rookie Tajae Sharpe is a nice 'lottery ticket' pick late in your draft. He and Rishard Matthews will be the top two targets for the Titans this year (at the WR position).

    Thursday Update

DET - TE Eric Ebron 50-50 for opener Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron (ankle) is 50-50 to play in Week 1, in the opinion of beat writer Dave Birkett.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Even if Ebron plays, we're not counting on him from a fantasy perspective. The Lions passing attack should be led by WRs Golden Tate and Marvin Jones. We think WR Anquan Boldin could have a larger role than a fully healthy Ebron. Look elsewhere for TE depth.

DEN - QB Mark Sanchez won't play Thursday

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeff Legwold

Denver Broncos QB Mark Sanchez won't play in the team's final preseason contest on Thursday, Sept. 2, and reports indicate the Broncos are actively shopping the USC product.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Broncos may not get many offers for Sanchez as most teams expect him to be released. Sanchez says he wants to stay, but in Denver he may only be the third-string QB behind Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch. We'll see Lynch, the team's first-round pick in 2016, play the whole game against the Cardinals on Thursday.

ARI - WR John Brown clears NFL's concussion protocol

    Source: ESPN.com - Josh Weinfuss

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown (concussion) has been medically cleared to play in the team's final preseason game on Thursday, Sept. 2, though head coach Bruce Arians may hold him out until the regular season opener.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brown's concussion problem in camp is unnerving for fantasy owners. In fact, the entire Cardinals passing attack has been a bit lackluster this preseason. If healthy, Brown is a nice WR4 with flex appeal.

BUF - RB Mike Gillislee cleared to return

Source: The Buffalo News - Jay Skurski

Buffalo Bills RB Mike Gillislee (concussion) was at practice on Tuesday, Aug. 30, and indicated he had been cleared and is no longer in the NFL's concussion protocol.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He's fourth on the depth chart behind LeSean McCoy, Reggie Bush and rookie Johnathan Williams. Gillislee proved last year that he had a bit more game than some expected. However, even if injuries hit above him on the depth chart we wouldn't expect more than a part-time role from Gillislee.

DAL - Healthy OLB Sean Lee restructures deal

Source: The Dallas Morning News - Brandon George

Dallas Cowboys LB Sean Lee (knee) had $2 million of his $3 million base into bonus pay, but it did not clear any space for the 2016 season. As far as his knee is concerned, he said 'I'll be ready to go for the first game.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lee is the most important player in the Cowboys defense, which is thin upfront and lacking proven pass rushers. They can't afford to lose him for the season opener against the Giants.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

PIT - Pittsburgh offense may play faster

Source: Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - Mark Kaboly

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger indicated the team may use the no-huddle offense more often this season. The Steelers used the no-huddle offense on 16 of Roethlisberger's 19 snaps during their third preseason game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Roethlisberger did a great job taking what the defense gave him, leaning on short high percentage passes to Jesse James, Eli Rogers, and Antonio Brown. The Steelers offense should produce a lot of PPR runoff for the passing game targets, although there might not be as many big plays as there were in 2015. Roethlisberger is a solid QB1, but his offense is looking more dink and dunk than vertical.

CLE - Asking price still high for QB Josh McCown

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown may be a trade target for the Minnesota Vikings, but the Browns likely will keep McCown unless the Vikings are willing to trade a high draft pick for him.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Browns are right to play their strong negotiating position, because McCown is clearly the best backup quarterback in the league, and better than some starters, including Shaun Hill. As we get into the season, the need will only grow and McCown's price will only go up. Robert Griffin III has had trouble staying on the field in the past, so that's even more incentive for the Browns to stick to their bottom line.

Green Bay Packers LB Clay Matthews was cleared of acquisitions he used performance-enhancing drugs by the NFL Wednesday, Aug. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Matthews will be available for the Week 1 opener against the Jaguars. He is a crucial piece for the Packers defense, so this is a mostly expected sigh of relief for the Green Bay defense.

PIT - WR Antonio Brown signs revised deal

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown restructured his contract Wednesday, Aug. 31, which moved $4 million from 2017 to this season, according to a source. His base salary is now $10.25 million. The Steelers have promised to sign him to a true extension after this season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Finally! Brown was on the books for just $6.25 million this year -- a horrible number for the best WR in the game today. The Steelers are still getting a bargain here as Brown's price tag would be much higher if he was on the open market. He was a great find for this team late in the draft years ago, but his price doesn't match his play. We should see Brown break the bank next year when that extension is done.

SD - DE Joey Bosa makes practice debut

    Source: ESPN.com - Eric D. Williams

San Diego Chargers DE Joey Bosa made his first appearance at a practice on Tuesday, Aug. 30, on the heels of ending a lengthy contract stalemate. Bosa won't play in the club's final preseason game, and it's unclear when he'll make his NFL debut.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

As long as Bosa is in shape, he could get mixed in against Kansas City in Week 1, although the team has been going forward without him this summer. There's not going to be time for Bosa to learn the intricacies of the Chargers defense during the season, but the Chargers might need him right away with backup Damion Square suspended for the first four games.

ARI - S Tyrann Mathieu should play in Week 1

    Source: ESPN.com - Josh Weinfuss

Arizona Cardinals FS Tyrann Mathieu (knee) was cleared to play in the team's preseason finale on Thursday, Sept. 1. He's unlikely to return to game action until Week 1 against the New England Patriots, however, when head coach Bruce Arians expects Mathieu will be 'ready to roll.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mathieu got an extension this offseason and he should be a key to the defense. He tore his ACL last December, so a Week 1 return to the field is a great sign for him and the new standard ACL recovery timeline.

LA - QB Jared Goff 50/50 to start Thursday

    Source: ESPN.com - Alden Gonzalez

Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff has a '50-50' chance to start the team's final preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings according to head coach Jeff Fisher.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We should see the rookie plenty in the preseason finale. Case Keenum is going to begin the year as the team's starter, but the future of the team if Goff. He's got a quick release, and Goff is adept at reading defenses under pressure. There's a chance we could see him start later in the year if the team needs a spark.

MIA - Adam Gase challenges WR DeVante Parker

Source: The Miami Herald - Adam H. Beasley

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (hamstring) has had a hard time staying healthy early in his NFL career. He tweaked his left hamstring in practice Monday, Aug. 29, and he missed a lot of time due to a foot injury in his rookie season of 2015. Head coach Adam Gase appeared to challenge Parker Tuesday, Aug. 30, to do what it takes to stay out of the trainer's room. 'We're going to keep strengthening him up,' Gase said. 'I feel like I've been through this with (Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas) in Denver. Felt like he was always hurt. One thing after the other.'

    Friday Update

KC - RB Jamaal Charles unlikely to start opener Source: ESPN.com - Adam Teicher

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) is unlikely to start the first game of the season, and if he plays, it won't be a big load, according to beat writer Adam Teicher.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is very concerning to us, as it's the second time in a week Teicher has said something to this effect. We're watching but his current ADP of RB8 and overall ADP of 16 is starting to feel slightly high. We know how deep the backfield is. We could be seeing an RBBC if they want to keep Charles fresh.

MIA - RB Jay Ajayi disappoints in preseason finale

    Source: USA TODAY Fantasy Sports

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi ran for 13 yards on three carries in the team's final preseason game Thursday, September 1, but he also lost a fumble on the first play of the game and committed a drop in the passing game as well.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ajayi needed a big night to really secure a split with Arian Foster for carries, but that fumble is going to hurt, as is the drop. When you get a chance to perform, you'd better do so or you won't get another shot easily. Foster is going to see some rest, but Ajayi isn't going to get as many carries as he could have had he been healthy and consistent this summer. This game was just icing on the cake. That said, we still don't love this offense enough to put Foster above an RB3 with upside, which is right where his ADP is. Unfortunately this pushes Ajayi to RB4/RB5 status.

DEN - WR Emmanuel Sanders praises QB Trevor Siemian

    Source: NFL.com - Nick Shook

Denver Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders complimented QB Trevor Siemian, saying he throws a 'very catchable ball' and he 'can make all the throws.' Sanders also said he liked the decision of anointing Siemian the Week 1 starter.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sanders is likely just happy to know who will throw the passes. Siemian can't be shakier than Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler were last season, so the offense should be fine in Denver. However, we wouldn't go all in on Siemian yet. We don't know how he'll perform in a real game, and so we don't know that he will finish the season with the job. We also think the Broncos will lean on the run game a lot, so his production is limited. Draft him as no more than a QB3 this fantasy season.

DET - RB Ameer Abdullah expects to carry load

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah reiterated Wednesday, Aug. 31, that he expects to be the team's every-down back this season, which would mean working in the base three-receiver set and on third downs, as well as in goal-line packages, too. However, head coach Jim Caldwell said Tuesday, Aug. 30, he does not plan to change from his running-back-by-committee approach. 'I think you have to spread it out a little bit,' Caldwell said. 'Backs take a lot of hits in the ball game, and so I don't anticipate (we have) that kind of a guy that gets 30 carries in a ball game. I don't perceive that. Even though maybe it could happen, it wouldn't happen very often.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Abdullah won't be the every-down back for a couple of reasons. First, Theo Riddick is a better receiver out of the backfield and should be the team's pass-catching back. Second, Abdullah isn't known as a pile-pusher so any sort of short-yardage of goal-line duty could go to Zach Zenner. Finally, Abdullah isn't built to be a workhorse back. He's small, quick and fast -- so if the team wants him to stay healthy in 2016 they'll make sure to use a rotation of RBs to keep Abdullah fresh.

NYJ - QB Bryce Petty goes to locker room

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets QB Bryce Petty (shoulder) had to be taken to the locker room with a left shoulder injury during the team's final preseason game Thursday, September 1. He was drilled in the left shoulder on a 44-yard touchdown pass and replaced by QB Christian Hackenberg. Petty is probable to return, according to the team.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Could this be the famous "fake injured player" who the Jets stash on IR so they can keep all their quarterbacks? We'll see how this plays out, but the only quarterback worth tracking here is Ryan Fitzpatrick who is a decent QB2 this season and tracking as QB20 right now in drafts.

ATL - QB Matt Ryan worked on deep throws

    Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan spent six weeks training with former MLB pitcher Tom House and former college pitcher Adam Dedeaux -- who have also worked with New England Patriots QB Tom Brady, New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees and Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer, to name a few with -- at the acclaimed 3DQB training facility in working to enhance his ability to throw deep. Ryan firmly believes there's a noticeable difference in his deep ball and WR Julio Jones was the first to say the quarterback's arm strength is much stronger than it was last year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The deep targets are going to be there in a Kyle Shanahan offense. The team should run the ball often to set up play-action passing. We'll see if any targets outside of WR Julio Jones can come through for Ryan. The team added Mohammed Sanu in free agency earlier this year, but we're not overly excited by his fantasy potential.

TB - TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins yells at coach

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Michael David Smith

Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins was observed yelling at head coach Dirk Koetter during the team's preseason finale Wednesday, August 31. He was guided away by WR Russell Shepard from a potential confrontation, but Seferian-Jenkins said there are no hard feelings. 'Sometimes I get emotional,' he said. 'I let my emotions get the best of me. I love my coaches. Coaches love me. We definitely talked and it was what it was.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Maybe not a great idea when you're battling for playing time. But these things are often made to be bigger than they really are. The talent is there with Seferian-Jenkins, but motivation and attitude have been problems. We'll see if he can stay healthy, stay out of the coach's doghouse and start playing up to his potential in 2016. He's a lottery ticket TE2 for fantasy owners.

DAL - QB Tony Romo must fully heal

Source: Fort Worth Star-Telegram - Clarence E. Hill Jr.

Updating previous reports, Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo's (back) injury is different from the one he suffered in 2014 because the compression fracture to his L1 vetebrae must fully heal before he will be allowed to play, according to a source. His timetable is around eight to 10 weeks, and short-term Injured Reserve is a distinct possibility.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That sounds great but 1) it's still a back injury to a guy with a history of them and 2) it's better to prepare yourself for the "worst case scenario" with his rehab. We'd say the earliest we see Romo is Week 6 but as that's right before the bye week, it's more likely the best case scenario is Week 8. The worst case is around Week 10 or 11. Dak Prescott is likely to be the starter for a long time this year, and we expect the team to protect him with a lot of running, so he'll have less passing production. We see Prescott as no more than a QB3 and a shaky one at that.

    Saturday Update

KC - RB Jamaal Charles' status uncertain Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles' (knee) availability for Week 1 is uncertain at this point, according to head coach Andy Reid. Charles has not been ruled out, but Reid said Charles could sit out.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The fact that Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West were getting a lot of carries in practice was already a concern and in fairness, Reid has been saying this for some time. He also has said Charles could play but only in a limited capacity. With the talented backfield they have, an RBBC was always a threat but it looks like it's likely here and soon. Charles' ADP is 16 overall and RB8 right now—that's starting to feel a bit rich.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kelley was undrafted out of Tulane, but he's had an impressive preseason. In fact, the rookie may have forced his way into the team's RBBC behind starter Matt Jones. Reports indicate we could see a 60/40 split of the team's touches at RB with Jones being the lead guy. Kelley would get the next cut and Chris Thompson may see the field as a change-of-pace back.

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick likely will make the 53-man roster, according to sources. Head coach Chip Kelly has said Kaepernick is one of the top two quarterbacks on the roster.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Well that's not a high bar. We still think Kaepernick could be a great fit in Kelly's offense while Blaine Gabbert is, well, BLAINE GABBERT. Could this be an attempt to drive up trade price? Given off the field issues and the fact that the front office hasn't been a fan of Kaepernick's in some time, maybe. Still, we do think Kaepernick has something left in the tank. That's not to say we'd take him as more than a low-end QB3—which we can't do as he hasn't even won the job. Man, this is a mess. Stay far away.

NYJ - QB Bryce Petty has shoulder bruise

    Source: New York Daily News

New York Jets QB Bryce Petty (shoulder) has been diagnosed with a bruised shoulder after an MRI showed no structural damage. Head coach Todd Bowles said it is too early to say if Petty will be placed on Reserve/Injured list.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Will the Jets try to keep all four quarterbacks by stashing one on the Reserve/Injured list? Petty showed a lot of improvement this summer, so it's unlikely the team would cut him. They just invested in Christian Hackenberg and Geno Smith is the only backup with game experience. It will be interesting to see who ends up on the roster, though if Ryan Fitzpatrick gets hurt, none are real fantasy options.

KC - S Eric Berry 'should be ready' for opener

    Source: Chiefs.com

Kansas City Chiefs SS Eric Berry 'should be ready to go' for the team's season opener, according to head coach Andy Reid.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Chiefs meet San Diego in that first game and while the Chargers are shaky from top to bottom, Philip Rivers have throw the ball, so having Berry in the game will help.

HOU - DE J.J. Watt has 'decent' shot of playing opener

    Source: Twitter

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (back) is 'headed in the right direction' and 'it looks decent for him to be able to play in the first game,' according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Houston would love to see him back in the lineup but this team should handle the Chicago Bears without him. The Kansas City Chiefs and the New England Patriots (even without Tom Brady) are more problematic and by then, Watt should be back in the saddle.

DAL - RB Darren McFadden ready to return Source: The Dallas Morning News - Brandon George

Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden (elbow) said he is 'definitely' ready to return to practice Thursday, Sept. 1. McFadden will miss the first six games of the season if he is not activated from the Active/Non-Football Injury list before the final roster cuts Saturday, Sept. 3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll wait and see if McFadden is activated before we get too excited about his availability. It sounds like he should come off that list, then we'll see how he fits in as a backup behind Ezekiel Elliott.

TEN - WR Justin Hunter cut by Tennessee

Source: The Tennessean - Jason Wolf and John Glennon

Tennessee Titans WR Justin Hunter was released Friday, Sept. 2.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Zero surprise here. Hunter has tremendous natural talent, but injuries and inconsistencies have always prevented him from playing up to that potential.

TEN - Tennessee cuts RB Bishop Sankey

Source: The Tennessean - Jason Wolf and John Glennon

Tennessee Titans RB Bishop Sankey was released Friday, Sept. 2.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sankey was the first RB taken off the board in the 2014 NFL draft. It's no surprise the team has moved on already as Sankey just never had the game to make it as a starter in the NFL. Sankey looks lost at times with the ball in his hands, and he lacks the creativity and vision to excel. There may be a market for him somewhere else, but we can't imagine teams falling all over themselves to add him.

BAL - WR Devin Hester works out for Ravens

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

Free-agent WR Devin Hester (Falcons) worked out for the Baltimore Ravens Friday, Sept. 2.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hester has recovered from a toe injury and is ready to latch on with another team. The Falcons released him last month, but he's still got something left to prove. If added -- by the Ravens or any other team -- Hester would primarily contribute as a return man.

GB - WR Jordy Nelson declares himself ready

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (knee) said he is 'ready to go' for Week 1 during an interview Thursday, Sept. 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

You can hear the sighs of relief from Wisconsin (and across the world from his Fantasy GMs). The hope is that Nelson returns to form and puts up WR1 numbers this season. The Packers offense is on its way back to normal.

CHI - WR Kevin White flashes potential

    Source: ESPNChicago.com - Jeff Dickerson

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White had four catches for 57 yards in the preseason finale against the Cleveland Browns Thursday, Sept. 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

White will have the opportunity to light things up with Alshon Jeffery across from him, drawing attention from the secondary. We're not sold on the offense though, and White is still adjusting to the offense. Draft him as a WR4 with upside, but don't overspend.

LA - QB Jared Goff finishes up rough preseason

Source: USA TODAY Sports - Tom Pelissero

Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff completed 22 of his 49 passes for 232 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions during the preseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Right now, the coaching staff says he is the third quarterback. Somewhat unexpected given the Rams moved heaven and earth to get him, but perhaps the right move if he needs development. No Rams quarterback is worth rostering unless he's on your dynasty team. This remains a Todd Gurley driven offense.

BAL - WR Breshad Perriman makes debut

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens WR Breshad Perriman (knee) made his preseason debut against the New Orleans Saints Thursday, Sept. 1, finishing with two catches on four targets for 25 yards.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He's still healing and well down the depth chart. While he is certainly worth watching because he is a deep threat with a quarterback who can use that, he's not worth rostering because of his injury.

    Sunday Update

SF - QB Blaine Gabbert named starter in San Fran Source: NFL Network

San Francisco 49ers QB Blaine Gabbert has been named the starting quarterback over Colin Kaepernick, head coach Chip Kelly announced Saturday, Sept. 3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Zero surprise here. Gabbert was able to catapult his way to the top of the depth chart as Kaepernick had three offseason surgeries that he had to recover from. We're not looking for Gabbert to do much from a fantasy perspective.

BAL - RB Justin Forsett released

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Baltimore Ravens RB Justin Forsett was released Saturday, Sept. 3, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A bit of a surprising move for the Ravens here. They are going with a group of young RBs instead of Forsett. Terrance West, Kenneth Dixon and Buck Allen will compete to establish a pecking order. The rookie Dixon arguably has the highest upside, but he's going to miss the first month of the season with a knee injury. West should be considered the lead back at this time. He's a big back who can make his living between the tackles.

MIN - QB Sam Bradford traded to Minnesota

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford was acquired by the Minnesota Vikings Saturday, Sept. 3, according to sources. Bradford was acquired by the Minnesota Vikings Saturday, Sept. 3, in exchange for a 2017 first-round draft pick and a fourth round pick.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nothing like an early morning Saturday trade in the NFL! Bradford will now be reunited with RB Adrian Peterson (they were college teammates at Oklahoma) and step into the starting lineup for the Vikings. This bumps the Vikings skill position players not named Peterson back up the rankings just a little bit over how their outlook changed if Shaun Hill was the starter. However, we're not going overboard adding Vikings pass-catchers as Bradford has proved to be an average (at best) NFL starter.

DAL - Dallas signs QB Mark Sanchez

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Free-agent QB Mark Sanchez (Broncos) has agreed to a contract with the Dallas Cowboys. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Adam Schefter (ESPN) is reporting that it's a one-year contract.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sanchez is going to serve as a backup to Dak Prescott. He couldn't win the starting job in Denver even though it was his to lose at the beginning of training camp. The Cowboys would be better off if Sanchez never has to take a snap while Tony Romo is out with a back injury.

PHI - QB Carson Wentz could start Week 1

    Source: ESPN - Adam Caplan

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (ribs) could start Week 1's game against the Cleveland Browns if he has recovered sufficiently from his rib injuries, according to multiple sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

So much for the Chase Daniel era. Even if Daniel begins the season as the starter, the future of the franchise is Wentz. They'll see where he's at returning from this ribs injury then make a decision about their starter. Don't automatically plug Daniel into your DFS lineups just yet.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for the Ravens here. With Ben Watson (Achilles') lost for the season, the Ravens need to establish their pecking order at the TE position. Williams should be the top guy at the position, but Pitta and Crockett Gillmore could cut into his playing time.

DEN - QB Austin Davis lands in Denver

    Source: NFL.com - Marc Sessler

Free-agent QB Austin Davis (Browns) has agreed to a one-year contract with the Denver Broncos. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Davis plays with a lot of toughness and moxie, and he's got more starting experience than either Trevor Siemian or Paxton Lynch. He'll be there to mentor both players while he learns the nuances of the Gary Kubiak system. Davis goes through his progressions quickly, and he's an accurate passer on short and intermediate throws. For his career, Davis has completed 236-of-378 passes (62.4%) for 2,548 yards with 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions (80.4 rtg.). He also has rushed 23 times for 69 yards (3.0 avg.).

Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman was released Saturday, Sept. 3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The leading rusher last year for the Broncos is now looking for a job. Hillman was on the open market earlier this year, but only the Green Bay Packers showed the slightest bit of interest. The Broncos brought him back for a good price, but Hillman didn't outperform Kapri Bibbs in training camp and the preseason.

Chicago Bears RB Jacquizz Rodgers was released Saturday, Sept. 3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden (elbow) is expected to start the season on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list. The Cowboys received trade interest in McFadden but they intend to keep him, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Cowboys will use rookie Ezekiel Elliott early and often as their lead back. He'll be backed up by solid veteran Alfred Morris. When McFadden returns to the field, he may get into the mix as a change-of-pace back.

Baltimore Ravens LB Elvis Dumervil (foot) is not participating in practice Saturday, Sept. 3.

Source: NFL Network - Rand Getlin

Houston Texans WR Cecil Shorts was released Saturday, Sept. 3, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Texans have made a youth movement at the WR position. They added both Will Fuller and Braxton Miller in the draft, and those two rookies should see the field quite a bit in 2016. Add in second-year pro Jaelen Strong and you can see how there really wasn't much room -- or much of a role for Shorts. We're certain Shorts will latch on somewhere else.

Buffalo Bills WR Greg Salas is expected to be the primary slot receiver for the team this season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Salas has bounced around the league during his pro career, but it looks like he's found a spot in the slot (for now) with the Bills. Fantasy owners aren't going to want any part of the Bills receiving group not named Sammy Watkins.

JAX - ILB Myles Jack's role uncertain

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike DiRocco

Jacksonville Jaguars LB Myles Jack likely will be on the field on obvious pass situations this season but it may take the team a few weeks before knowing where to use Jack in the base defense. Jack received playing time at weakside linebacker and middle linebacker during the preseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The great thing about Jack is that he can line up most anywhere on the field and get the football in a hurry. He's ultra-athletic and arrives at the ball-carrier with nasty intentions. The Jaguars defense has made a few improvements this offseason, and finding the best way to utilize Jack will only help them be a better unit.
