NFL Player News - Divisional Round Week

    Courtesy of Footballguys.com

KC - WR Jeremy Maclin avoids ACL tear

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs WR Jeremy Maclin (knee) did not tear his anterior cruciate ligament, but he did suffer a high-ankle sprain, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news for the Chiefs here, but it doesn't mean that he's going to be ready for this next weekend. His status for this weekend's divisional playoff matchup with the New England Patriots is still uncertain.

GB - WR James Jones tops in receiving

    Source: The Associated Press

Green Bay Packers WR James Jones posted seven receptions for a team-best 81 yards in the NFC Wild Card Game Sunday, Jan. 10, against the Washington Redskins. He was also targeted a team-high 11 times.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones has always had a strong connection with QB Aaron Rodgers. When Rodgers said before the game the team was going to 'let it fly' then going to Jones early and often was a given. Moving forward in the playoffs, the Packers should move towards more of a pass-happy offense if they want to advance.

GB - WR Randall Cobb scores in playoff win

    Source: The Associated Press

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb posted three receptions for 38 yards and a touchdown in the NFC Wild Card Game Sunday, Jan. 10, against the Washington Redskins. He was targeted eight times.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cobb looked good as a receiver, and he also was able to gash the Washington defense as a runner. The Packers looked better on offense than they had in weeks. Facing the Cardinals on the road next week, the Packers should do everything they can to produce through the air.

GB - WR Davante Adams to be re-evaluated

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Tom Silverstein

Updating a previous report, Green Bay Packers WR Davante Adams (knee) suffered a right knee injury in the NFC Wild Card Game against the Washington Redskins Sunday, Jan. 10.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll know more about this injury on Monday. Head coach Mike McCarthy didn't have an update on Adams' injury, but said Adams will be re-evaluated Monday, Jan. 11.

WAS - WR DeSean Jackson quiet in loss

    Source: The Associated Press

Washington Redskins WR DeSean Jackson (knee) was able to play in the NFC Wild Card Game against the Green Bay Packers Sunday, Jan. 10, but he managed just two grabs for 17 yards on five targets.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jackson could have had a touchdown early in the game if he had reached the ball over the pylon instead of out of bounds. The Packers were banged up in the secondary, but they did a good job of bracketing Jackson and turning up the heat on QB Kirk Cousins.

WAS - RB Chris Thompson totals 114 yards

    Source: CSNWashington.com - Tarik El-Bashir

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (shoulder, toe) rushed once for 25 yards in the NFC Wild Card Game against the Green Bay Packers Sunday, Jan. 10, and he added eight receptions for 89 yards.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

When the Washington offense needed to go in catch-up mode, Thompson was the primary back on the field. The production was nice considering he entered with a sore toe and a torn labrum in his shoulder. He's a dynamic player, but likely no more than a change-of-pace back for interested dynasty owners.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed sets franchise record

    Source: The Associated Press

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed posted nine receptions for 120 yards and a touchdown in the NFC Wild Card Game against the Green Bay Packers Sunday, Jan. 10. He was targeted 17 times. He is the first tight end in franchise history to post 100 or more receiving yards in a playoff game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

So long as Reed is healthy, he's one of the most dangerous tight ends in the league. Fantasy owners who don't get Rob Gronkowski next year should consider Reed as the second tight end to come off the board.

WAS - RB Alfred Morris runs for 50 yards

    Source: The Associated Press

Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris rushed 11 times for 50 yards in the NFC Wild Card Game Sunday, Jan. 10, against the Green Bay Packers, including a 19-yard scamper.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Morris looked good, but the team had to play catch-up football and Morris went to the bench.

WAS - QB Kirk Cousins throws for 329 yards

    Source: CSNWashington.com - Tarik El-Bashir

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins completed 29 of his 46 pass attempts for 329 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in the NFC Wild Card Game Sunday, Jan. 10, against the Green Bay Packers. He ran for a touchdown, but also fumbled three times and lost one. He is only the second Redskins QB in franchise history to score a rushing touchdown in the playoffs.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cousins was a great story this year, but he couldn't get it done in the postseason. Washington has a quarterback to build around, and they should do their best to add better weapons to the offense during the offseason.

GB - RB James Starks finds end zone

    Source: The Associated Press

Green Bay Packers RB James Starks carried 12 times for 53 yards and a touchdown in the NFC Wild Card Game Sunday, Jan. 10, against the Washington Redskins. He added two receptions for 12 yards.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Starks ran hard and looked good. He split time with Eddie Lacy in this game, and they took advantage of a soft Washington defense.

GB - RB Eddie Lacy posts 63 yards, TD

    Source: The Associated Press

Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy rushed 12 times for 63 yards and a touchdown in the NFC Wild Card Game against the Washington Redskins Sunday, Jan. 10. He had a season-best 30-yard scamper in the second half.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Eddie Lacy came through for the DFS players who started him. He's splitting time with James Starks, and this combination seems to be a winning recipe for the Packers as they advance through the playoffs.

GB - QB Aaron Rodgers looks good in win

    Source: The Associated Press

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers completed 21 of his 36 pass attempts for 210 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the NFC Wild Card Game win against the Washington Redskins Sunday, Jan. 10.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rodgers was emphatic leading up to this game that the Packers were going to open things up on offense. They tried to do that, and Rodgers came through with a decent game. We'll see if they get more pass-happy next week against the Cardinals.

MIN - RB Adrian Peterson held in check

    Source: The Associated Press

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson rushed for 45 yards on 23 carries during the wild-card playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Peterson's fumble late in the game helped the Seahawks get the lead. The weather certainly played a factor as to why this was such a low-scoring game.

MIN - QB Teddy Bridgewater quiet in playoff game

    Source: The Associated Press

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater went 17-for-24 for 146 yards during the wild-card playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It was hovering around zero degrees for this game...nobody should have been expecting much from either passing game in this contest.

SEA - WR Doug Baldwin finds end zone

    Source: The Associated Press

Seattle Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin caught five passes for 42 yards and one touchdown during the wild-card playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The only touchdown on the day, Baldwin got open near the front pylon and easily hauled in the score. The Seahawks didn't do much on offense, but they did enough to get the win.

CIN - Marvin Lewis staying in Cincinnati

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis will not be fired as the Bengals have no plans to make any head coach change at this time, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bengals don't change that much, and they seem content with Lewis as their head coach. Even with another playoff loss for a Lewis-led Bengals team, he's going to be their head coach going forward. The Bengals haven't won a playoff game since 1990, the longest streak in the NFL.

PIT - WR Antonio Brown suffered concussion

    Source: NFL.com - Gregg Rosenthal

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown (concussion) suffered a concussion on a hit from Cincinnati Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict in their wild-card matchup Saturday, Jan. 9.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Burfict seemed to target Brown's head, and it knocked the All-Pro receiver from the game. He'll have a week to get through the concussion protocol. The team will be easy on him until he's ready to resume practicing. The Steelers don't play the Broncos until the final game next Sunday.

    Tuesday Update:

CIN - OLB Vontaze Burfict suspended three games

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Cincinnati Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict has been suspended for the first three games of the 2016 regular season for repeated violations of the player safety rules.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

According to Burfict's agent, the suspension will be appealed. With such an emphasis on player safety, targeting a player in the way that Burfict did Steelers WR Antonio Brown is totally unacceptable. This sentence may be reduced (one game?), but we don't think it's completely eliminated.

PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger expected to play

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) likely will be able to play in the divisional round playoff game against the Denver Broncos Sunday, Jan. 17.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

His shoulder injury basically comes down to pain tolerance. Roethlisberger will likely be out there against the Broncos, but one hit could mean we'll see Landry Jones come into the game. The Steelers are up against it on the road against a Broncos defense that swarms the quarterback early and often.

PIT - WR Antonio Brown's status in doubt

    Source: ESPN - Bob Holtzman

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown (concussion) does not appear to have a good chance to play in the divisional round playoff game against the Denver Broncos Sunday, Jan. 17, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's Monday, and this is not official...but it's certainly not a good sign. Brown is in the league's concussion protocol, and he'll need to be cleared in order to practice. We'll be watching this closely with an eye on Friday's practice report.

SEA - RB Marshawn Lynch could be game-time decision

    Source: ESPN.com - Sheil Kapadia

Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch (hernia) didn't have a setback last week, but head coach Pete Carroll said Lynch could be a game-time decision in the divisional round against the Carolina Panthers Sunday, Jan. 17. 'We've got to go one day at a time, see what happens, see how it goes, get him out there practicing and see what that means,' Carroll said. 'We don't know yet.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners should be leery of Lynch this week after he was set to go last week then basically pulled himself out of the lineup and didn't make the trip to Minnesota.

NE - WR Danny Amendola may see more time

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (knee) is expected to be more involved in the offense than he was the last several weeks.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're expecting a spirited Patriots offense this week. Tom Brady (ankle) is feeling good, and he's got both Amendola and Julian Edelman at his disposal.

NE - WR Julian Edelman will not be limited

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (foot) said he will not be limited during the divisional round playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs Saturday, Jan. 16. Edelman was running and cutting during practice Monday, Jan. 11, and worked with QB Tom Brady during the bye week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news for the passing game. Edelman should help the team's third-down offense because the team converted 50% of their opportunities when Edelman was on the field and only 33% when Edelman was sidelined.

CIN - QB Andy Dalton to have normal offseason

    Source: Bengals.com - Geoff Hobson

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton (thumb) will have a normal offseason despite his thumb injury, according to head coach Marvin Lewis.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dalton could have played this week if the Bengals would have gotten past the Steelers on Saturday. He'll be ready to go for OTAs and minicamp later this year.

CLE - Cleveland pushing for Hue Jackson

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson is drawing more interest from the Cleveland Browns, who plan to make a big push and finish a deal to hire Jackson for their vacant head coach position, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jackson is arguably the hottest coaching candidate out there. He's considered the front-runner for the 49ers job, but it sounds like the Browns are going to make a big push. Stay tuned.

TEN - Mike Mularkey to interview for Titans HC

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Tennessee Titans interim head coach Mike Mularkey will interview for the head coaching position later this week, likely Thursday, according to a source. He is the clear front-runner for the position.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's not terribly exciting for the Titans, but we'll have to see how this shakes out. There are some Titans fans (and plenty of fantasy owners) who want to see Chip Kelly hired by the team.

PIT - RB DeAngelo Williams may not play

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams' (ankle) chances of playing against the Denver Broncos this weekend aren't looking good, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's Monday, so we're not going to be too dramatic either way. We'll know more about Williams' playing status later in the week. If he can't play, the team will once again turn to Fitzgerald Toussaint as their lead running back. Jordan Todman would then get more time as a change-of-pace back.

CHI - Dowell Loggains promoted to Bears OC

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Chicago Bears quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains was promoted to offensive coordinator Monday, Jan. 11.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is good news for Jay Cutler. Loggains is a favorite of Cutler, and this should help ease the pain of losing former OC Adam Gase (new Dolphins head coach).

WAS - Washington to re-sign QB Kirk Cousins

Source: The Washington Post - Mike Jones

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins will be re-signed this offseason, and head coach Jay Gruden said the organization plans to continue to build around their quarterback.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cousins replaced Robert Griffin III as the franchise quarterback for Washington, and it makes sense for the team to build around him. While Cousins should get re-signed, Griffin is likely to be playing elsewhere in 2016.

DET - QB Matthew Stafford to meet with GM

Source: The Grand Rapids Press - Kyle Meinke

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford will meet with new general manager Bob Quinn before a decision is made on head coach Jim Caldwell.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stafford might want to keep Caldwell around, but it's no given that's going to happen. We're expecting Caldwell to be removed as head coach in the near future.

DET - No decision on Jim Caldwell yet

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell is still in limbo, according to new general manager Bob Quinn.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'd be shocked to see Caldwell stick around. Quinn said he met with Caldwell Monday, Jan. 11, and has great respect for him, but that he is still noncommittal on Caldwell staying or leaving.

NE - QB Tom Brady not hindered by ankle

    Source: CSNNE.com - Phil Perry

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (ankle) did not seem repressed by his ankle when dropping back in team drills Monday, Jan. 11.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The bye week should have really helped Brady heal up. Getting Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman back on the field for the game against the Chiefs will help him produce at a high level in the Divisional Round.

DEN - QB Brock Osweiler practicing

    Source: DenverBroncos.com

Denver Broncos QB Brock Osweiler (knee, shoulder, elbow) is participating in practice Monday, Jan. 11.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Osweiler has been banged up over the last few weeks, and now he'll be the backup to Peyton Manning. He was able to gain valuable experience this year filling in for Manning, and the team could turn to him if Manning gets banged up or is ineffective against the Steelers on Sunday.

Ya plus it is hard to play in that high altitude when injured. Body doesn't respond as well. Denvers D will be the key to winning the game

    Wednesday Update:

PIT - RB DeAngelo Williams doesn't need practice

    Source: NFL.com

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (ankle) doesn't need to practice this week in order to play this weekend, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll believe it when we see it. Fantasy owners who are playing in the Divisional Round would feel a lot more comfortable starting Williams if he's at least able to practice by Friday.

PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger to be limited?

    Source: NFL.com

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) is expected to be a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Jan. 13. He will also ramp up his workload as the week progresses.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is a headline that all of us could have automatically assumed. Roethlisberger is badly banged up, but early indications have him playing on Sunday against the Broncos.

NYG - Doug Marrone favored by Giants?

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Dan Graziano

Jacksonville Jaguars assistant head coach Doug Marrone is considered the strongest candidate out of the interviewees so far to take over as head coach, in the opinion of Dan Graziano of ESPNNewYork.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wow. Marrone is not exactly a coach you'd think would be good enough to jump back in after his failed head-coaching stint with the Bills. He's interviewed about four different head coaching jobs so far, and the Giants may be the most interested.

ARI - RB Chris Johnson resumes practicing

    Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson (leg) returned to practice Tuesday, Jan. 13. He is still on the short-term Reserve/Injured list and is not eligible to play until the Super Bowl.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson can return to the field if the Cardinals make it all the way. So long as QB Carson Palmer stays healthy, the chances of them representing the NFC in the Super Bowl is strong.

KC - WR Jeremy Maclin making progress

    Source: NFL.com - Conor Orr

Kansas City Chiefs WR Jeremy Maclin (ankle) didn't practice Tuesday, Jan. 12, but 'he's making good progress,' according to head coach Andy Reid. Maclin was diagnosed with a 'mild' high ankle sprain.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watch this injury closely, and check back to see if Maclin can practice on Friday. Reid said he wouldn't have a problem with Maclin playing this weekend if he doesn't practice.

GB - WR Davante Adams update coming Wednesday

    Source: NFL.com - Conor Orr

Green Bay Packers WR Davante Adams (knee) said he felt fine after the wild-card game Sunday, Jan. 10, but team trainers felt differently. Head coach Mike McCarthy said the Packers will know more about Adams' status Wednesday, Jan. 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

So we will wait until Wednesday to begin the "Davante Adams Watch." We have a feeling he won't play, or at least he'll be seriously limited against the Cardinals in the Divisional Round.

MIA - Vance Joseph hired as Miami DC

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Cincinnati Bengals assistant coach Vance Joseph has been hired as the Miami Dolphins' defensive coordinator, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A fantastic hiring here. The Dolphins seem to be on the right track. They've smashed it out of the park with the Adam Gase and Joseph hirings in our eyes. Gase will take care of the entire team, but he should really spark the offense and QB Ryan Tannehill. Joseph is one of the hottest candidates out there for a promotion to DC. He's smart, aggressive and a well-respected coach. Joseph should be able to get the most out of a talented-but-disappointing Miami defense.

CAR - TE Greg Olsen looking for repeat outing

    Source: NFL.com

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen caught seven passes for 131 yards and a touchdown when the Panthers beat the Seattle Seahawks in Week 6 this season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rinse. Repeat. The Panthers have a tough matchup this week as they face the Seahawks. The two teams met earlier this year, and the Panthers came out on top in a thrilling game. The Seahawks will try to slow down Olsen, but that may prove to be difficult.

TB - Dirk Koetter interviewing with Bucs

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter interviewed with the Buccaneers for their vacant head coaching position Tuesday, Jan. 12. Koetter is considered the favorite to be hired as Tampa Bay's new head coach.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

They should just hand him the gig. This is an internal promotion basically, and perhaps the main reason behind the decision to get rid of Lovie Smith. Koetter worked well with QB Jameis Winston this season, and keeping the coach around would greatly help Winston take even greater strides in 2016.

WAS - Washington WRs dilemma ahead?

    Source: Spotrac.com

Washington Redskins WR DeSean Jackson is due $3.75 million and WR Pierre Garcon $7.6 million in 2016 -- the final year in each of their contracts. Each receiver is entering their age-29 season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team is going to set up QB Kirk Cousins with a new deal, so some players may have to restructure their contracts. Garcon might be one of those players. We see Washington putting as many weapons around Cousins as they can this offseason.

SF - San Francisco passing on Hue Jackson

Source: The Mercury News - Tim Kawakami

Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson is no longer being considered by the San Francisco 49ers for their head coaching position. It is possible that the 49ers double back, according to Tim Kawakami of The Mercury News, but for now the 49ers are looking elsewhere.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Interesting. Perhaps with Tom Coughlin interviewing the team has had a change of heart. Just yesterday, Jackson was considered the front-runner for the position.

KC - WR Jeremy Maclin not practicing

    Source: ESPN.com - Adam Teicher

Kansas City Chiefs WR Jeremy Maclin (ankle) had his right ankle wrapped and isn't practicing Tuesday, Jan. 12. However, he was moving around well for a player dealing with a high ankle sprain.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

High ankle sprains are known to linger if not given enough time to rest. Check back to see if Maclin can practice on Friday.

SF - Tom Coughlin interviews with Niners

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Former New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin is interviewing with the San Francisco 49ers for their head coaching vacancy Tuesday, Jan. 12.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Even though Hue Jackson is considered to be the front-runner with the 49ers, they're still going to look at other options. Coughlin has clearly not retired, but instead just needed a change after years of missing the playoffs with the Giants. The 49ers are in a rebuilding process, and Coughlin might be able to get them back on the right track.

PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger unsure of status

    Source: CBSPittsburgh.com

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) isn't sure if he'll be able to play against the Denver Broncos in the divisional round Sunday, Jan. 17. 'It didn't hurt when I reached back to throw,' Roethlisberger said of his heroic late-game drive. 'But it was pushing forward to throw and then the end of the throw. So I definitely felt like I was shortening up my motion up a little bit, which is why we threw some screens, and couldn't really get the ball down the field… I think it just more affected how I could throw it.' He's unsure how much he'll do in practice this week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He's day-to-day, and we feel Roethlisberger will play against the Broncos on Sunday. His effectiveness as a passer could be severely limited by this shoulder injury, but even a banged up Roethlisberger is better than a 100 percent Landry Jones.

DET - WR Calvin Johnson will be given time

    Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman

Detroit Lions general manager Bob Quinn said Monday, Jan. 11, that when the time is right he will reach out to WR Calvin Johnson about his future plans. He said a couple of weeks after the season isn't that time.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's the wise move by Quinn and the Lions. Even if Johnson decides he's going to play, we might see the team ask him to restructure his contract. Johnson is due a whopping $15.95 million in 2016.

IND - TE Dwayne Allen wants to return

    Source: 97.5 FM/AM 1260 - Derek Schultz

Indianapolis Colts impending free-agent TE Dwayne Allen said Monday, Jan. 11, that he is hopeful of returning to the team for 2016 and beyond. 'I plan on being back. I hope everything is wrapped up before the period even starts,' Allen said. 'I found my home and hope to stay.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Both Allen and Coby Fleener are set to be free agents in 2016. While there's a chance Allen could come back, we think the odds are better that Fleener stays and Allen goes. If healthy, Allen can produce at a high level. However, injuries and inconsistencies have held back his game.

    Thursday Update:

CLE - Hue Jackson hired by Cleveland

    Source: NFL.com - Chris Wesseling

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson was hired by the Cleveland Browns Wednesday, Jan. 13, to serve as their next head coach. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jackson was arguably the hottest coach on the market. We think this is a great move for the Browns. Jackson is known as a creative offensive mind, and he does a good job of building a system that works best with the talent around him. We like what this hiring does for the dynasty stock of guys like TE Gary Barnidge, RB Isaiah Crowell and WR Josh Gordon.

PIT - RB DeAngelo Williams absent Wednesday

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (foot) did not take part in practice Wednesday, Jan. 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams is still in a walking boot. If he misses the game on Sunday against the Broncos, Fitzgerald Toussaint would be the Steelers lead back.

CAR - No limitations for Jonathan Stewart and Ted Ginn

    Source: ESPN.com - David Newton

Updating previous reports, Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said there are no limitations for RB Jonathan Stewart (foot) and WR Ted Ginn Jr. (knee) this week, and both will play against the Seattle Seahawks this weekend.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news for the Panthers here. Both players were taken off the injury report Wednesday, Jan. 13.

KC - RB Spencer Ware has high ankle sprain

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (ankle) is dealing with a high ankle sprain and missed practice Wednesday, Jan. 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ware may not be able to perform at full strength due to this injury. He may not even play against the Patriots if he can't practice later in the week.

SF - Mike Shanahan strong candidate in SF

    Source: SportsCenter

Former Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan is strongly back in the mix for the San Francisco 49ers' vacant head coaching position. He has already met with the 49ers regarding the job.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Shanahan was the team's offensive coordinator the last time the 49ers won the Super Bowl. He then won two more Super Bowls as the head coach in Denver. After that, Shanahan failed to make an impact with Washington. It will be interesting to see if he can regain his status as a top head coach in the NFL.

DEN - QB Brock Osweiler doesn't practice

Denver Broncos QB Brock Osweiler (knee, shoulder, elbow) did not practice Wednesday, Jan. 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Osweiler is banged up, but he should be able to be Peyton Manning's backup on Sunday in the Divisional Round.

DEN - OLB Von Miller sent home ill

Source: NFL Network - James Palmer

Denver Broncos LB Von Miller (illness) was sent home from practice Wednesday, Jan. 13, due to illness.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not too concerned about this. It's the middle of the week, and the Broncos don't play until Sunday. We'll see if Miller can get back to practice later in the week.

CAR - WR Ted Ginn practicing

    Source: Panthers.com - Max Henson

Carolina Panthers WR Ted Ginn Jr. (knee) returned to practice Wednesday, Jan. 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Having Ginn out there against the Seahawks would greatly benefit the Panthers offense. Ginn will be able to stretch the field and open things up underneath for Cam Newton and the passing game. He seems like he's on track to play in the Divisional Round.

NE - TE Rob Gronkowski limited Wednesday

Source: Boston Herald - Jeff Howe

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) was limited in practice Wednesday, Jan. 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gronkowski should be good to go against the Chiefs. Pay up in DFS to fit Gronkowski in your lineup. He could easily finish the Divisional Round as the most productive fantasy tight end.

DEN - QB Peyton Manning, TE Owen Daniels practice

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning (foot) and TE Owen Daniels (knees) both practiced in full Wednesday, Jan. 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Manning is going to start for the Broncos on Sunday, his first start since Week 10. That week, he was benched against the Chiefs. Now, Manning is healthy and it will be interesting to see if he's better than he was earlier this year.

TB - Dirk Koetter new Bucs coach?

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com

Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter is telling the team's assistant coaches that he will be the next head coach of the team, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Promoting Koetter is the only thing that makes sense after Lovie Smith was let go. This gives Jameis Winston a bridge to next season as he prepares for year two in the NFL. Koetter knows how to craft an effective offense, but we think the Bucs will be in the market for some help at wide receiver this offseason.

NYG - Ben McAdoo will be Giants new coach

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

New York Giants offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo will be the new head coach of the Giants, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The promotion from OC makes a lot of sense for the Giants. They have talent on the offensive side of the ball, and they'll now have continuity with McAdoo taking over as head coach. Now, the team has to add more talent to the defensive side of the ball.

PIT - Ben Roethlisberger has struggled on road

    Source: NFL.com - Gil Brandt

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger had just five of his 21 touchdowns on the road this year, and three of those came against the Cleveland Browns.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The splits for Roethlisberger road vs. home are startling. We'll see if he can turn things around (perhaps without WR Antonio Brown) in the Divisional Round against the Broncos.

ARI - RB David Johnson not nervous

    Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson said he doesn't really have any more rookie nerves after the experience he's gained in games this season. He added that he doesn't think about the spectacle of the playoffs, saying that he has too much to think about already as far as the game plan is concerned.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson is ready to go, and fantasy owners should pay up in DFS tournaments to get the rookie RB in the lineup. He could be the best fantasy running back this weekend.

SEA - TE Luke Willson a full participant

    Source: Seahawks.com

Seattle Seahawks TE Luke Willson (concussion) practiced in full Wednesday, Jan. 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Getting Willson back could help the Seattle offense. This makes Cooper Helfet and Chase Coffman worse fantasy options this week against the Panthers.

KC - Full practice for TE Travis Kelce

    Source: Patriots.com

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce (groin) practiced in full Wednesday, Jan. 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If you play DFS and can't pay up to get Rob Gronkowski, then Kelce makes for a fine option. With Jeremy Maclin banged up, we could see Kelce have an even larger role against the Patriots.

KC - WR Albert Wilson limited in practice

    Source: Patriots.com

Kansas City Chiefs WR Albert Wilson (hamstring) was limited in practice Wednesday, Jan. 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watch to see Jeremy Maclin's practice status. If Maclin doesn't play, then Wilson is set to see a larger role...if he's ready to play with this hamstring injury.

NE - QB Tom Brady, WR Brandon LaFell practice

    Source: Patriots.com

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (ankle) and WR Brandon LaFell (foot) both were full participants in practice Wednesday, Jan. 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brady needed that week of rest the bye week provided. Now, he's ready to rock against the Chiefs this weekend.

NE - WR Danny Amendola, WR Julian Edelman limited

    Source: Patriots.com

New England Patriots WRs Danny Amendola (knee) and Julian Edelman (foot) were both limited in practice Wednesday, Jan. 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Both receivers should on the field for the Patriots this week. We like Edelman as a DFS play now that he's returned. Expect him to catch plenty of passes as Tom Brady looks to get rid of the ball before the Chiefs pass-rushers get to him.

NE - DE Chandler Jones hospitalized

Source: New York Daily News - Bernie Augustine

New England Patriots LB Chandler Jones (undisclosed) was hospitalized with an unknown medical condition Tuesday, Jan. 12. Details of the circumstances are unknown other than Jones showed up at Foxborough Police Department at 7:42 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 10 seeking medical attention. He was rushed to the hospital afterwards.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Early reports are that Jones had a bad reaction to substance "that is not illegal". The Boston Globe reported that the substance was synthetic marijuana which is not illegal in the state. Per ESPN, on Tuesday, after the Boston Herald first reported about Jones, the Patriots released the following statement: "Chandler Jones was admitted to the hospital on Sunday and released that day. He reported to work on time Monday morning and has participated in all meetings and practices since then."

    Friday Update:

SEA - RB Marshawn Lynch full practice but status still uncertain

    Source: ESPN.com - Sheil Kapadia
Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch's (abdomen) status for the divisional round against the Carolina Panthers remains uncertain, even though he put in another full practice Thursday, Jan. 14. Seattle coaches have been encouraged by Lynch's progress this week, though.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

    Source: NFL.com

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter has been promoted to head coach.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It took a long time to go a short distance, for the Buccaneers to hire the guy we all knew was their choice from the beginning. The Bucs didn't want Koetter to leave and now we will see if the gamble is worth it.

NYG - Ben McAdoo officially a head coach

    Source: Giants.com - Michael Eisen

The New York Giants officially announced that Ben McAdoo will be their next head coach Thursday, Jan. 14. He's been the Giants offensive coordinator the last two seasons. New York's offense ranked 10th and eighth, respectively, in the NFL the last two seasons. QB Eli Manning's numbers have improved in each of the past two years, too. Manning completed 58.5% of his passes in 2013 for 3,818 yards, 18 touchdowns and 27 interceptions but threw a career-high 35 touchdowns this year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Eli Manning is happy and the Giants get some continuity. However with McAdoo remaining, along with DC Steve Spagnuolo and GM Jerry Reese still there, how much are things to change? The Giants also kept a lot of the staff that Tom Coughlin wanted in Philadelphia, effectively shutting that hire down. Well played John Mara. Well. Played.

SF - Chip Kelly hired in San Francisco

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly was hired by the San Francisco 49ers Thursday, Jan. 14, as their new head coach. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

So the Niners fired/forced out a guy in Jom Harbaugh who was a great coach but had an ego conflict with GM Trent Baalke. They wait a year and now replace him with a guy who was fired from the Eagles because of an ego issue? This should end well. Whether this also means Colin Kaepernick might have a coach who will try and do something with him remains to be seen, though he isn't exactly a perfect fit for what Kelly does.

Kansas City offensive coordinator Doug Pederson has accepted the Philadelphia Eagles' offer to become their coach, a person with knowledge of the decision tells The Associated Press.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This isn't the sexy hire and some Eagle fans feel like they "settled". It's easy to see why they'd go with a safer choice after the Chip Kelly experience. Pederson can't be officially hired as long as Kansas City remains in the playoffs.

PIT - No practice for RB DeAngelo Williams

    Source: NFL.com

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (foot) missed practice for the second straight day Thursday, Jan. 14.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He's not expected to play this weekend, and you can expect Fitzgerald Toussaint and Jordan Todman to split carries which will limit each of their impacts. Pick your poison, but they are on the lower end of starters this weekend and will be risky low-end RB2 plays at most in this game.

PIT - WR Antonio Brown not cleared, sits again

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Gerry Dulac

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown (concussion) has still not been cleared to practice and remained sidelined Thursday, Jan. 14.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If he does play, we like him a little less than usual because he has a banged up quarterback who might not be able to go deep. Still, not being cleared by this point is a concern. We'll keep you updated here.

PIT - Mike Tomlin talks WR Antonio Brown

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Gerry Dulac

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown (concussion) is still in the NFL's concussion protocol despite saying he's good to go for this weekend's playoff game against the Denver Broncos. Head coach Mike Tomlin won't take any risks with Brown in the protocol, though. “We respect the protocol,” Tomlin said. “We are going to adhere to it and follow it to the letter. He is going to participate fully in it. We will see where it leads us. Obviously, we are hopeful, but we are always hopeful. We are going to do what is right when it’s said and done. “

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If he plays we like his potential, though Ben Roethlisberger's bad arm is a concern, but it looks very much like he will miss Sunday's game. Stay tuned.

NE - TE Rob Gronkowski has back injury

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee, back) had a back injury added to the Patriots' injury report. Gronkowski did not practice Thursday, Jan. 14.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gronkowski is always banged up and as long as the knee isn't as bad as initially reported he remains one of the top fantasy tight ends this weekend.

GB - WR Randall Cobb lacking big games

    Source: NFL.com - Chris Wesseling

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb hasn't topped 100 receiving yards in 15 games.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cobb misses Jordy Nelson almost as much as Aaron Rodgers does. We think with Jones likely to get Patrick Peterson, he might have some more luck this week, but he remains a WR2 type start until we see consistency from him.

GB - WR James Jones in for tough matchup?

    Source: NFL.com - Chris Wesseling

Green Bay Packers WR James Jones could be matched up with Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson in the divisional round Saturday, Jan. 16. Peterson allowed a league-best 45.6 passer rating in coverage. CB Justin Bethel was targeted a league-high 22 times in Weeks 16 and 17, and Packers QB Aaron Rodgers threw at Bethel a season-high 14 times in their first matchup, resulting in seven catches for 75 yards and an interception.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

You only need to know one thing: is Jones wearing his hoodie? Ever since Jones went with the mid-80s high school look he has played pretty well. That said, this is a daunting matchup and Jones can be a bit touchdown dependent at times. We're feeling conservative about him and recommend him as a hail mary type WR2 play, at best.

ARI - WR Larry Fitzgerald excels in playoffs

    Source: NFL.com - Chris Wesseling

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald leads all NFL receivers in history with at least five postseason games with an average of 105.1 receiving yards per game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We expect more of the same. The Packers pass defense is solid, but has a few injuries to contend with, so Fitzgerald should do well. We think starting him as a decent WR1 is a good way to go.

NO - QB Drew Brees not going anywhere

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Triplett

New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis reiterated that QB Drew Brees will remain with the organization. Brees turns 37 Friday, Jan. 15, and will count $30 million against the 2016 salary cap in the final year of his contract. Loomis said Brees won't be released or traded. The only thing undecided is whether Brees will play out the last year of his deal or if the Saints will look at an extension. Brees is due $20 million in salary and bonuses this year. New Orleans is projected to be around $10 million over the projected salary cap of $150 million.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We knew Bree's would stay when it became clear Sean Payton would stay. Bree's has continued to put up yards but while we expect him to score more next year when he is healthy, we expect to continue to see an overall decline in his play.

KC - TE Travis Kelce, WR Albert Wilson fully practice

    Source: Patriots.com

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce (groin) and WR Albert Wilson (hamstring) were full participants in practice Thursday, Jan. 14.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Next to Rob Gronkowski and Greg Olsen, there is no tight end more reliable than Kelce going into this weekend.

NFL - Tom Coughlin still wants to coach

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Former New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin is still open to coaching but wants the job to be perfect. He's also open to a consulting job with the Giants.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's no reason for him to settle for less than an ideal situation, though we've no idea what that would look like. The Giants would be smart to lock him up as a consultant, though you have to wonder if that would undermine the remaining staff and Ben McAdoo. Nobody likes their old boss hovering around.

KC - Limited practice for RB Spencer Ware

    Source: Patriots.com

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (ankle) was limited in practice Thursday, Jan. 14.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ware and Charcandrick West will split carries and face a good matchup. Splitting carries make them both a bit risky, but they're worth a look as medium-level RB2s.

KC - WR Jeremy Maclin misses practice

    Source: Patriots.com

Kansas City Chiefs WR Jeremy Maclin (ankle) did not practice Thursday, Jan. 14. He has already been ruled a game-time decision.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kansas City plays New England in the early game on Saturday, so you'll know that morning. If he plays, we think he will be a bit limited (and clearly not 100%) so he's no more than a risky low-end WR2.

PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger limited

    Source: NFL.com

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) put in a limited practice Thursday, Jan. 14.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That injured throwing shoulder is a concern and he could be without Antonio Brown. We'd avoid him in fantasy circles this weekend.

GB - RB Eddie Lacy limited again

    Source: NFL.com

Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy (rib) was limited for the second straight day in practice Thursday, Jan. 14.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ribs are a pain to run with, both from a motion standpoint and a contact standpoint. It's also limited his carries because of the pain and how it's hindered him. YOu can roll him out as an RB2 with some upside, but know there is a better than even chance he splits carries and is limited.

NE - QB Tom Brady, WR Brandon LaFell practice fully

    Source: Patriots.com

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (ankle) and WR Brandon LaFell (foot) both were full participants in practice Thursday, Jan. 14.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brady will be fine, it's not like he had gazelle-like escapability anyway. He's a decent start in fantasy this week, even against a tough defense like Kansas City. That said, there are a few better options, and the cost difference between Brady and the high upside guys below him might be enough for you to feel good about heading in another direction in daily games.

DEN - QB Brock Osweiler to practice Friday

Source: The Denver Post - Troy E. Renck

Denver Broncos QB Brock Osweiler (knee) is expected to return to practice Friday, Jan. 15, according to head coach Gary Kubiak.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is Peyton Manning's start, but we'd avoid him for fantasy purposes and we would remind everyone that Kubiak pulled Osweiler when he was worried about the game. If Manning chokes, will he pull the aging quarterback?

Glad for Antonio Brown that the concussion protocol is being followed. In the old days he would play and risk his life so that his team might have chance to win.

    Saturday Update:

SEA - RB Marshawn Lynch ready - but Christine Michael will be mixed in

    Source: ESPN.com - Sheil Kapadia

Seattle Seahawks RB Christine Michael will still rotate in quite a bit in the divisional matchup with the Carolina Panthers Sunday, Jan. 17, even with RB Marshawn Lynch (abdomen) expected to return, according to head coach Pete Carroll. The Seahawks said Lynch does not need to go through a pre-game test.

Coach Pete Carroll when asked what to expect from Lynch: "We'll figure that out as the game goes." "Have you been around here very long with Marshawn and all that?" Carroll said. "Not always do we know. He's somewhat unpredictable in certain ways, but he's really pumped to play football and play with his team. So we're looking forward to him playing like he has in the past. We'll make sure we watch and see how he's doing and how much we can play him." [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's Lynch. So there's always the worry of the unexpected happening. But this is looking like Seattle expects to see plenty of him on the field.

PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger questionable

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) is listed as questionable for the divisional game against the Denver Broncos Sunday, Jan. 17.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Roethlisberger is one of the toughest quarterbacks in the league, and there's no doubt that he's going to play. If he makes it through the entire game is another question.

PIT - RB DeAngelo Williams ruled out

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (foot) has been ruled out for the divisional game against the Denver Broncos Sunday, Jan. 17.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Another starter down for the Steelers in a game that is looking tougher by the news blurb. The Steelers are already going to play without superstar WR Antonio Brown. Now, without Williams too, they'll find it tough to move the ball against a ferocious Broncos defense.

PIT - WR Antonio Brown could return next week

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown (concussion) said he plans to play in the AFC Championship game if the Steelers advance past the Denver Broncos in the divisional round this weekend.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Without Brown, it will be difficult for the Steelers to get by the Broncos. If they do, then we feel confident that Brown could return for the AFC Championship.

KC - WR Jeremy Maclin questionable

    Source: KCChiefs.com - B.J. Kissel

Kansas City Chiefs WR Jeremy Maclin (ankle) is questionable for the divisional game against the New England Patriots Saturday, Jan. 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Maclin is likely to tough it out in order to play against the Patriots, but this ankle injury could limit his effectiveness. We'd play Maclin in GPPs, but he's not a good cash game option for DFS players in the Divisional Round.

DEN - QB Peyton Manning, TE Owen Daniels probable

    Source: NFL

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning (foot) and TE Owen Daniels (knees) both practiced in full all week and are probable to face the Pittsburgh Steelers in the divisional round Sunday, Jan. 17.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

To avoid the Steelers pass-rushers, Manning may be dumping off short passes to Daniels early and often. Daniels makes for a sneaky TE play in GPPs this week.

DEN - QB Brock Osweiler questionable

    Source: NFL

Denver Broncos QB Brock Osweiler (knee) was limited in practice Friday, Jan. 15, and is questionable for the divisional round against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He'll back up Peyton Manning on Sunday. If Manning gets banged up or is ineffective, then Osweiler has multi-game experience he can lean on from earlier this year.

NE - QB Tom Brady should play Saturday

    Source: Patriots.com

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 15, and is listed as probable for the divisional round playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs Saturday, Jan. 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not too concerned about Brady. He had a bye week to rest that ankle injury, and he should be good to go against the Chiefs. Rob Gronkowski on the other hand....his knee/back problems are a bit of a concern.

NE - TE Rob Gronkowski's status in question

    Source: Patriots.com

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee, back) was limited during practice Friday, Jan. 15, and is listed as questionable for the divisional round playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs Saturday, Jan. 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Patriots offense would certainly be hamstrung without Gronkowski in the lineup. Even if he's limited, the team may not be able to perform at the expected (high) level.

NE - WR Julian Edelman questionable

    Source: Patriots.com

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (foot) was limited during practice Friday, Jan. 15, and is listed as questionable for the divisional round playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs Saturday, Jan. 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Edelman may be questionable, but we expect him back in action this week. Tom Brady should lean on him early and often against a Chiefs defense that knows how to get after the passer.

NE - TE Scott Chandler listed as questionable

    Source: Patriots.com

New England Patriots TE Scott Chandler (knee) was limited during practice Friday, Jan. 15, and is listed as questionable for the divisional round playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs Saturday, Jan. 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With Rob Gronkowski (knee/back) a bit banged up, we could see more from Chandler...even though he's banged up too.

NE - WR Danny Amendola's status in question

    Source: Patriots.com

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (knee) was limited during practice Friday, Jan. 15, and is listed as questionable for the divisional round playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs Saturday, Jan. 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We have a feeling that Amendola will give it a shot against the Chiefs. It's win or go home in the playoffs, and if Amendola is able to play--even in a limited capacity--he will.

KC - TE Travis Kelce should be on the field

    Source: KCChiefs.com

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce (groin) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 15, and is listed as probable for the divisional round playoff game against the New England Patriots.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Chiefs have both WRs Jeremy Maclin (ankle) and Albert Wilson (hamstring) banged up, so we could see a lot of Kelce on Saturday against the Patriots.

TB - Mike Smith joins Tampa Bay

    Source: NFL.com - Dan Hanzus

Former Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith was named the Tampa Bay Buccaneers new defensive coordinator Friday, Jan. 15. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Giants and Dolphins sniffed around Smith as a potential head coach, but he didn't land either job. Smith has a good mind for defensive football, and there's no shame in the fact that he might be a much better coordinator than he will ever be a head coach. It's interesting to note that new head coach Dirk Koetter served as Smith's offensive coordinator when the two were with the Falcons a few years ago.

ARI - QB Carson Palmer good to go

    Source: AZCardinals.com

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (finger) practiced in full all week and is probable to face the Green Bay Packers in the divisional round Saturday, Jan. 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners need to pay up to superstack your DFS lineups with Cardinals players. Palmer may be an expensive quarterback to add, but he could be well worth the price tag in a game that the Cardinals could run away with.

GB - RB Eddie Lacy, Richard Rodgers probable

    Source: Packers.com

Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy (rib) and TE Richard Rodgers (hip) are both probable to face the Arizona Cardinals in the divisional round Saturday, Jan. 16. Lacy practiced in full Friday, Jan. 15, while Rodgers was a limited participant.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not crazy about Lacy this week against a tough Cardinals defense. Rodgers might have a decent game, but there are plenty of other tight ends out there who are better options for fantasy owners in the Divisional Round.

GB - WR Davante Adams won't play

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Green Bay Packers WR Davante Adams (knee) did not practice again Friday, Jan. 15, and he's been ruled out for the divisional round game against the Arizona Cardinals Saturday, Jan. 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Without Adams, we'll see Jared Abbrederis get more playing time. Abbrederis will be the third wide receiver for the Packers on Saturday behind Randall Cobb and James Jones.

GB - QB Aaron Rodgers not good against blitz

    Source: NFL.com - Judy Battista

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers ranked just 24th in the league against blitzes this year, with a passer rating of 82.4, which was his worst mark against the blitz in his career. The Arizona Cardinals blitz on 44.5% of all opponents' passing plays.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Playing the Washington "defense" is a lot different than what Rodgers will face on Saturday against the Cardinals. Their defense ranks 3rd-best in the league in percentage of opponents' dropbacks where pressure is felt (31.9).

DEN - RB C.J. Anderson has momentum

    Source: NFL.com - Judy Battista

Denver Broncos RB C.J. Anderson is averaging 6.4 yards per carry since Week 8.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Anderson had to deal with a turf toe injury earlier this year, and that obviously slowed him down even though he tried to play through the affliction. He'll back up Ronnie Hillman on Sunday against the Steelers, but Anderson could be the better fantasy play in the Divisional Round.

SF - QB Colin Kaepernick has guaranteed contract

    Source: ESPN.com - Paul Gutierrez

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick's 2016 contract becomes fully guaranteed for injury come April 1, and the 49ers would have to pay him $11.9 million. Many believe the 49ers might try to trade or release him before then.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Early reports indicate that Kaepernick is not going to be the team's quarterback in 2016. New head coach Chip Kelly may want to go with a better passer, and he'll make a move to find a different quarterback. We can't imagine any team trading for Kaepernick, so look for him to be released before the April 1st deadline.
