Patriots acquired TE Tim Wright and a draft pick from the Bucs in exchange for LG Logan Mankins.

    Maybe Not.

The Patriots had a bit of a logjam on their interior line, and needed help at "move" tight end. Wright is a natural fit to potentially fill the old Aaron Hernandez role. He's a former college receiver at Rutgers who caught 54 balls for 571 yards and five touchdowns as a rookie last season. This move puts Wright squarely on the fantasy radar. We don't believe it has anything to do with Rob Gronkowski's availability for Week 1 whatsoever. The Pats will move RG Dan Connolly to left guard. Ryan Wendell is at center. Marcus Cannon is the right guard.

Mankins is their best O lineman no? And they gave up 42 sacks last year. The will need Brady insurance.

Pats have a lot of depth on the offensive line (whether or not it is QUALITY depth is debatable ) and Mankins is getting up there in age.

I hope they are thinking Gronk insurance. There is no way in hell Gronk plays 16 games. I hope for 10 plus the playoffs. I hope I am wrong but I would not bet against myself on this.

The Mad Genius is at it again. I can only ponder what kind of Sabermetric-esque calculation put this into play.

they weren't going to pay a 32 yr old guard 6.3 million anyway. they absolutely were going to cut him, but somehow ended up with a back-up tight end which they needed and a 4th rounder for the overpaid and ancient mankins.

I'm no expert but I'd say mediocre at best. And on Brady's blind side. Don't get it. Maybe he knows something about the 2014 draft picks that we don't.

My guess is Tim Wright will take over the murder's role at TE.

Nate Solder couldn't sniff Mankins Jock on his best day. I'll give you big but that's about it.

One must remember that you have MAYBE 2 or 3 more years of Brady, now maybe less. I'd take Mankins for a couple more .

Wake me when Solder makes his first pro bowl. Mankins has 6 in 10 years.

You shouldn't talk about stuff you don't really have a clue about. Solder and Vollmer are much better than Mankins who has tailed off these past few years. He also gave up 11 sacks last year which was the 2nd most as a guard in the NFL. He's a much better run blocker than pass blocker. Cannon is a fine replacement.

Using pro-bowl's to judge a player's skill is laughable as well.

Time will tell. We agree to disagree. I get your point on pro bowls but 6 versus 0 means a hell of a lot regardless!

I get doing this for the future but the future is now with 2 or 3 more years of Brady.

If there was a line for it, I'd bet Gronk will be injured by game 8 and miss the rest of the season.

Oh lord just because major sites say he is there best O-lineman then it must be true. He wasn't. He was their 3rd best last year and this move makes sense for both sides.

Mankins started slowing down some last year, plus didn't he miss a half the 2012 season?
He's on the wrong side of 30 year old, Mankins is making way too much money, Pats tried to restructure his deal, Mankins told New England to get bent, so Captain Cheeseburger who is good at both cheating and dealing players on the downside of a career and getting something back while he still can, got some Gronk insurance, because even though Gronk is 9 foot 6 inches tall, and weight 465 lbs, is softer than Gradma Plopwell's yogurt.

    Insurance yes. Bad trade though.

Mankins was a beast on that line and a leader. You cannot replace his leadership on that line.

Pats are always business. They've been doing this for years, and it still works. The most funny thing is, I don't think any other gms are catching on.
