    Saints Change Kickers

    Cut: Garrett Hartley
    Signed: Shayne Graham

This obviously has a big Fantasy impact with many leagues having their Super Bowls this week (including the 2 SBR Leagues) and the kicker of a potent offense like New Orleans has slightly more value than other kickers.

But even for us bettors, the Saints are three-point underdogs at Carolina and it is good to know that New Orleans may now have a more reliable kicker in the event of a close game late, which is probably why they timed this move before this huge game.

Changing kickers is not going to do much for NO. Look for Car to take them down on Sunday in their House.

It doesn't matter if Carolina wins comfortably. But it could certainly matter if it is a tight game late.

It will be a tight game, hence the line is at -3.

Never understood this move. QB sucks balls the last game, receivers can't catch anything, RB's can't run the ball, defense can't stop anyone. Hey..lets fire the kicker. That will fix everything!

it has nothing to do with anyone else.

it is pretty easy to evaluate the Kicker's performance and it has been sub par

that is all there is to it

saints are also going to start rookie LT Terron Armstead

what is interesting to me is this guy's physical freakiness. He ran a 4.71 40.

you know who else ran a 4.71 40 at the combine???? Jerry Rice

The Saints drafted Armstead in the third round out of Arkansas-Pine Bluff after he dazzled in pre-draft workouts and all-star games. The 6-foot-5, 304-pounder ran the fastest 40-yard dash time by an offensive lineman in the history of the NFL scouting combine (4.71 seconds). He also recorded the highest vertical leap of any offensive lineman this year (34.5 inches).

Did they claim it would fix everything? If they can sign a kicker who can do a better job then you do it. That's preety much all there us to it.

One of them was just missed, the other was blocked. The blocked FG was due to a bad, low trajectory kick which makes it his fault. For the love Pavy I think your posts are getting even worse.

If it was a low trajectory like you are implying they need to fire the holder because the trajectory is based on the angle the ball is held. Take a Physics class!

Are you saying that it is not possible for the kicker to control the trajectory of the kick?

Why would the kicker intentionally try to kick at a low trajectory? It's a field goal and not an on side kick.

I was watching the kick to make it a one score game. Most kickers could make it with eyes closed and an arm tied behind their back. It wasn't close nor did it have a chance. Hooked it horribly.

Exactly. Maybe he wasn't trying to, but he screwed up. As to your question, kickers intentionally kick at a lower trajectory on longer field goals and higher on short field goals. But the points is, yes, the kicker can (or should be able to) control the trajectory. Yes, a poor placement could effect the trajectory, but it's certainly not the only way.

I know a lot about kicked ball trajectories. I have been playing soccer for the last 35 years. I can kick the ball where I want and how high or low I want. But the ball is round. With the football a slight misalignment of the ball by the holder can hook the ball, make it spin weird or don't give it the proper lift to rise above blockers.

I don't disagree that the placement can matter, but the odd shape notwithstanding an NFL kicker can (or should be able to) adjust trajectory, and in many, but certainly not all, cases blocked kicks are the result of faulty trajectory caused by kicker error.
