Week 9 nfl news, vick, mike thomas, etc

Lions trade for wr mike thomas
With the NFL trade deadline about 48 hours away, business is starting to pick up. To that point, a trade was made Tuesday. Not a big one, but a trade nonetheless. The Lions traded for wide receiver Mike Thomas from the Jaguars. Compensation was not immediately disclosed.

Bucs G Carl Nicks out for the season
Some pretty important news with indirect fantasy impact for the Buccaneers. The Bucs placed guard Carl Nicks on injured reserve Tuesday because of a toe injury. The Bucs gave Nicks a five-year, $47.5 million contract in March. He was a first-team All Pro in 2011 and has been one of the best run-blocking guards in the league. Now, Ted Larsen will try to fill the void at left guard..

    Alex green to remain starter
After the past two games, Packers head coach Mike McCarthy has said that the team's running game "needs to improve" and is "not good enough." Those words are basically challenges toward Alex Green, who has taken on 42 of the 52 total carries in those games. No matter what has been said, McCarthy still wants Green to be his lead back going foward, acccording to Packers beat writer Tom Silverstein

    Vick still listed as starter

No official situation has been made, but three people familiar with the situaton told the Associated Press on Monday night that Michael Vick remains as the Eagles' starting quarterback. Vick admitted after Sunday's loss to the Falcons that head coach Andy Reid is considering giving Nick Foles a start, but it doesn't look like that will come in Week 9 against the Saints.

The San Diego Chargers and their 3-4 record will face the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday. The Associated Press is reporting that head coach Norv Turner will not likely be fired during the season. Turner mentioned that he had not spoken to general manager A.J. Smith or team president Dean Spanos about his job status.

The Kansas City Chiefs have already ruled out quarterback Brady Quinn for Week 9, which will allow QB Matt Cassel to start. Quinn did not practice Monday and will miss this upcoming Thursday night game because of a concussion. Quinn has played very poorly in limited action, throwing three interceptions in only 44 attempts. Cassel has thrown 10 interceptions out of 206 attempts,

FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reports teams are calling to gauge interest in a Steve Smith trade, but the Panthers have turned down all inquiries so far.

SI.com's Peter King "hears" the Cardinals have "some interest" in Ravens OT Bryant McKinnie.

According to ESPN's John Clayton on NFL Live, there's "virtually no chance" of a Dwayne Bowe trade before Thursday's deadline.
