    Nebraska Running Game

It looks like the Huskers are going old school this year, and are going to run the ball a lot; this is good for them in my opinion...

Couldn't get any info from your link, Dan. Posting another recap of their NU's spring game below. Considering the Huskers worked their offensive studs against their defensive scrubs, I'm not going to put too much weight on the 'return to running game' theory. Zac Taylor also picked apart the White's through the air.

Most amazing stat to me was over 57,000 attending the game...coulda' been higher if they didn't have a bunch of seats closed off for construction Nebraska fans are crrrrrrrrrrrazy, man!

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP, 15 Apr 06) -- Coach Bill Callahan used his first two spring games at Nebraska to show off the flash of his West Coast offense.

The third-year Nebraska coach went back to basics Saturday, featuring that old Cornhusker staple -- the running game.

Cody Glenn ran 16 times for 98 yards and Marlon Lucky 15 times for 84 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Red squad to a 35-7 victory in the Red-White Game before a Memorial Stadium crowd of 57,415 that included about 80 prospective recruits.

The Red team was made up of the top offense and defense, and the quarterbacks wore green jerseys to signify they were off-limits for contact. Standard timekeeping was used in the first half. A running clock was used in the second.

The Huskers had come into spring practice looking to improve a rushing game that ranked last in the Big 12 in 2005. Callahan said after the game that he was satisfied the Huskers have begun making strides in that area. The Reds totaled 219 yards rushing.

"We've got young backs who needed this type of atmosphere, this type of pressure, to compete in," Callahan said. "They all stepped up and competed well.

"We still wanted to get our throws in and work on our protection game, but we really wanted to test our young backs and see how they held up."

Quarterback Zac Taylor completed 14-of-21 passes for 184 yards and three touchdowns, all in the first half.

"I didn't ask him to do a lot," Callahan said. "I just wanted him to manage the offense, get the guys in and out and make simple, routine throws. I wanted him to feed the ball to those young backs."

Harrison Beck, who has had a sore right (throwing) shoulder, didn't play. That left Joe Ganz to lead the White squad in the first half. He hit just 4-of-13 passes for 14 yards. Ganz quarterbacked the Reds in the second half, going 1-for-6 for 11 yards.

The Reds held a 414-4 advantage in total yards and generated 28 first downs to the Whites' two.

Linebacker Corey McKeon led the Red defense with seven tackles, including one sack.

"We're a step ahead of where we were last spring," McKeon said. "People have filled their roles already. That's something that didn't come together until fall camp last year. To have that happen in the spring gives you a chance to mold your defense in the fall."

The Whites' lone highlight was Titus Brothers' 100-yard kickoff return in the third quarter. That matched the spring-game record established by Mike Demps in 1999.

Brothers had a mostly clear path to the end zone, using a cutback move at his 30 to avoid Adam Blankenship and then streaking down the right sideline into the end zone.

Taylor threw touchdown passes of 23 yards to Todd Peterson, 3 yards to Dane Todd and 7 yards to Josh Mueller.

Callahan said Beck threw well in Thursday's practice, but he struggled in warmups Saturday.

"It was really a sad sight for me to see Harrison go out in the warmup and not be able to even flick the ball with his wrist. He was pushing it," Callahan said. "Hopefully we can get him ready to go by training camp."

Tight end Matt Herian, who hadn't played since breaking his leg in the middle of the 2004 season, had one pass thrown his way. He couldn't reel in the ball in the end zone, in part because of Dontrelle Moore's coverage.

Callahan thanked the fans for turning out in such high numbers. Attendance might have been higher if the north end-zone construction project hadn't reduced capacity to under 60,000.

"There is nowhere across the United States in major-college football where you can manufacture a home sellout for spring football," he said." It just speaks volumes for the program, for our fans, for the state of Nebraska."

After what happened last season I believe that the higher ups at NU told coach to fix this mess or ELSE. I really believe the fans and the amount of money and time they donate to NU, they wanna see real results instead of plain old bowl games. Callahan should be smart enough to realize that to win consistantly you gotta have balance. With their RB tradition, they should be able to recruit RB's with ease. Enough running ability to keep D's honest.

Callahan out by game 8, in the county jail on 50K bail for child molestation and child porn charges. Eventually gets aquitted while a civil suit will be ongoing, then takes a job at a smaller school; not sure where at this point.

Now if he is 7-1 or 8-0, charges won't matter and still will be coaching, if team has bad record, he'll be in court.

And as far as the attendance, of course its like that, there is no other game within 1,000 miles.

Just remember, Lawrence Phillips, he not only ran over opponents(long pause) but women too. Hahahahaha Still cracks me up to this day when I hear that on ESPN biggest busts show.
