    INTENTIONAL GROUNDING...I have a question

why is spiking the ball not intentional grounding??? Is there a rule for it specifically??? I really want to know this, to me, it appears it should be intentional grounding. Not out of the box or going at any reciever. Thanks Later

It's only intentional grounding to throw a pass to nobody TO AVOID THE SACK. It is clearly to stop the clock so no foul.

I mean so you can pull the ball back, check the recievers, nobody is open so spike the ball

I think that would be intentional grounding.

The "real" reason for this is that technically there is a receiver in the area. The running back or tight end is less than 5 yards from the pass.

FYI, they will call grounding if you are in the pocket and not trying to avoid the rush.

    Peace,
