    UCF -3 1/2

ECU has been pushed around on defense this season and that is evident in the 31.8 ppg and 433.4 total ypg its is allowing. The defense has had trouble slowing down the run (158.8 ypg) as well as the pass (274.6 ypg), although it has done a solid job recording 14 sacks. Last weekend, the Pirates were torched for 484 total yards of offense by Houston, but they made up for some of those yards by generating three turnovers and four sacks in the winning effort. The defense also did a solid job on third downs, allowing Houston to convert just 6-of-20 attempts. Quentin Cotton led the charge with 14 tackles and a fumble recovery, while C.J. Wilson turned in nine tackles and 2.5 sacks. Cotton leads the team with 44 tackles for the season and Wilson is tops on the club with four sacks.

Opponents are scoring 17.2 ppg against Boston College, which is yielding just 46.8 rushing ypg on an average of 1.7 yards per attempt. Sure, yards have been much easier to come by through the air against the Eagles, but the fact that the defense has registered 10 interceptions speaks to the big-play ability that is present. The Boston College defense put forth a strong effort against UMass, limiting the Minutemen to 14 points and 277 total yards. Once again, the Eagles were tough against the run, limiting UMass to 69 rushing yards on 30 attempts. The pass defense wasn't quite as strong, as both Minutemen touchdowns came through the air.

    Hoosiers 13 1/2

Indiana allowed Iowa to produce 428 yards of total offense on Saturday, but considering the Hawkeyes ran 18 more plays than the Hoosiers it wasn't as bad as it looks on paper. In fact, even though Indiana surrendered three passing scores, the team kept Iowa under pressure the entire contest, registering a total of nine sacks for a loss of 38 yards. Making a bid for Defensive Player of the Week honors in the Big Ten, Jammie Kirlew made half of his nine tackles behind the line of scrimmage and was credited with a career-high three and a half sacks, just ahead of the two and a half registered by Greg Middleton. It should not come as much of a surprise that Indiana is now ranked first in the nation with almost five and a half sacks per game. The squad is also third in the Big Ten and seventh in the country in tackles for loss with an even nine per outing. With an average of one and a half per game, Middleton is second in the nation in sacks per contest as well.

    Tulsa -3

Giving up four touchdowns to the Mustangs with three minutes to go before half time was something, but it all could not be held against the UTEP defense, due to the fact that the last of those four TDs came on an interception return. Nevertheless, the Miners were exposed in every way on Saturday, giving up 257 yards on the ground and another 259 yards through the air to a program that controlled the ball for barely 10 minutes in the second half. Jeremy Jones registered six solo tackles for the Miners, two of those coming behind the line of scrimmage, while his forced fumble was also a highlight for the unit. As was the case last weekend, the pass defense for the Miners has been rather suspect, checking in with 311.2 ypg allowed to rank 10th in the conference and 112th in the nation this week. A big part of the problem is a significant push up front at the point of attack, something that has left the Miners with an average of less than a sack per game to rank them last in the league and 112th in the nation

Defensively, the Owls have run into some high powered offenses this season and that would help explain why they are giving up 32.0 ppg and 431.0 total ypg. The team has really struggled against the pass, surrendering 279.0 ypg and 14 touchdowns through the air. Much like their opponent in this game however, the Owls have thrived on big plays, forcing 18 turnovers, including 11 on interceptions. Last weekend, FAU generated a pair of turnovers, but that did little to slow down Kentucky, which rolled up 514 yards of total offense in the game. The Owls were torched through the air for 305 yards and five scores by Kentucky, and they also allowed the Wildcats to convert on 11-of-16 third down attempts. Corey Small put forth a noteworthy effort in the loss though, as he recorded 18 stops and a fumble recovery. He now has 46 stops on the year and that trails only Frantz Joseph (49 tackles) for the team-lead
