NCAA changes college football OT rules: 2pt tries are required in 2nd OT and then...

2PT shootouts......I guess it's a small improvement over the current system but truth be told, the NCAA should just go ahead and do how the NFL does it...

Pure garbage, the NFL should be the standard except both teams should get a possession.

It's better this way. Fewer points means less likely to lose an under in overtime

Yes, overtime not the friend of the under-bettor, especially as crazy high scoring as those college OTs can get!

    2 point shootout??

Turns out it was a rule last year after 4 OT’s.

Does anyone remember, did any game end up going to a two point shootout?

...This is the latest in a series of overtime tweaks have have taken place over the last two seasons. Rules adjusted last year forced teams into the 2-point conversion shootout starting with the fifth overtime. Teams were previously required to go for 2-point conversions following touchdowns starting in the third overtime period...

I always thought it would be cool to have a 2 minute clock per OT possession to add the element of clock management. They get 1 Timeout per OT right?

Yes there have been several last two years, offhand I can’t tell you any specific games though. I believe the catalyst for this change was the insane Texas A&M/LSU game a few years ago, went to six or seven overtimes. But it was awesome, and no one was complaining about it, so I don’t understand the problem. I always liked the college overtime, it was usually done in one or two and we had a lot of memorable outcomes due to it. Tulane Tulsa anyone...

Yeah I always thought this too. Adding a clock before going to this stupid 2 point shootout would have been a better next step

Correct, it was the 7 OT A&M/LSU game.

The worry at that point was about injuries.

They will probably change this back to 3 possessions and then 2 point conversions next season. Drunk has the right idea.

UNC vs VT 2019 was the first game that used this rule If I remember correctly....
The game that caused this rule change (TA&M vs LSU) was epic, too bad we won't see something like that again...

I'm more of a pro fan but I loved the college football overtime rule. I don't think they should of changed it. The NFL never makes a decision based on competition. They only care about making their decisions on network commercials and local coverage. Both teams should get a possession no matter what. I also think that they should play out the entire 10 minutes if no touchdown is made. I love you.
