Why does top ranked SEC teams only play 4 away games per season?

And 1 team from big 12 to no surprise is Oklahoma..........

That is absolutely stacking the deck!!

I noticed that years ago with bama with just 4 away games, but as far as the other teams playing ranked teams away thats just variance. your schedule is your schedule and you dont know who's gonna be ranked from year to year when you play them. but even still with bama they have 4 home sec games and 4 away sec games so thats all even and fair.

Saban does not want to lose during season

He runs from good teams and he knows playing better teams bangs up your players

sec schedule has always been favorable for their best teams

bama has some stupid "rivalry" with tennessee so they play them every single year even though they are in the other side of the conference

only them and the acc play 8 conference games still

absolutely no reason teams going for playoffs should be against umass and citadel in november

also true, so they will never change it

scheduling out of conference is hard, because most of it is done well in advance

I guarantee you that if you have an 8 team playoff, teams will at least try and play harder games out of the conference, that's a big reason why I'm for it like most other people.

If that's the case, their schedules are still just
as predictable, as there are plenty of historically,
chronically losing programs in the SEC to choose from.........

Also Bama locked into playing Auburn every year
is something they definitely do not look forward
to,especially playing them on Auburn's turf as
Auburn can beat Bama even when Auburn is
    not ranked..........

Wow the "stacked deck" is worse than I originally thought..........

They'll only accept out of conference "possible threats" if they
agree to play in Bama's own backyard........

I was mainly referring to their sec schedule but even non conference when they schedule those games there is no telling how good or bad those big name teams will be when they play them. like I wasnt excited to see them play louisville this year but when they scheduled them they were better, if they had played psu first game and won by now people would be saying well that win doesnt look as good now. My only problem with bama is when they play those games they are always at neutral sites. bama has pretty much been a monopoly in college football the last 10 years they are good enough and should be secure within themselves to play some of those games on the road. but as jj said saban doesnt want to lose ever, he'd schedule all cream puffs if he could get away with it.

    Wow.

I see the word "at" only twice on that schedule and both of them host the respective school the following year...Texas (22,23) and ND (28,29).

Three early season neutrals and the rest are home games.

    Just wow.

If you listen to Big 10 telecasts they talk about Bama not playing true road games, non conference that is, quite a bit. Scared to play up north. Neutral site in Dallas or Atl only.
FSU game last year was supposed to be best non-conference game in awhile. Wasnt competitive in 2nd half.

    Yeah, they hosted them...lol.

One would think, even economically, that a road game will bring far more benefit to the small school they visit than forcing the small school to travel to Bama.

    One would think.

To be fair, Michigan wants to schedule this way also. If you can get the revenues of 8 home games, why not? It does suck when trying to decide who makes the playoffs when schools don’t have balanced schedules.

HUH? What small school could handle the volume of Bama fans in their stadium??? How about NO ONE! The reason big named teams schedule more home games is ONE reason only... MONEY! None of them are going to give up their cash cow of a home game that brings in 100,000 people. Only big sites like Jerry's world in Dallas or Atlanta can host a game and pay both teams good money (still not more money then a home game).

Do you really think Bama is afraid to play a Duke, UCF, Boise, etc., on the road? It has nothing to do with scared. It's all about the money.

grunching but more revenue in home games (most importantly savannah state makes a ton of $$$$ from playing at alabama. nobody would make any $$$$ from alabama playing at savannah state

these away NC games are big money makers for lesser teams.

not completely sure why some teams non-conference is so weak....... not a shot at SEC as i haven't checked the details...... i would have assumed it would be better for everyone for alabama to host oregon state. but then maybe oregon state wants to host much worse teams so that leaves non-FBS for alabama to sometimes host

plus i don't think alabama sells many walk-up tix for cup cakes. the games are included in fixed packages

i knew a hot girl from a big SEC school. she was so excited about selling some tix to me but then she only wanted to sell kent state and furman home games. what a tease

Mac, isn't a further point that duke, boise etc. often want to play worse teams themselves? maybe one tough non-conference game is good but not 3 or 4.... is there huge demand for hosting MAC, sunbelt etc.? i assume they need FBS games for bowl qualification
