    Willie Taggart death watch

He's the third head coach since 1976. They don't do "experiments" down there in Tallahassee. You get one shot. He will be fired this year, and I predict before the end of the season once it becomes clear that FSU is going to miss its first bowl in 37 years. Based on what we just saw, they wouldn't score against Middle Tennesse. That VT defense were all freshmen and sophomores. FSU is in trouble.

Even the long run was a missed arm tackle. FSU had no creativity or ability to execute their offense.

FSU signed him to a 6 year 30 million dollar contract.

His assistants are all signed for 3 years-- totaling another 22 million.

They are not firing him after one season, and swallowing 52 million dollars. I'll bet you any amount of money you can raise on that. Stop being silly.

Coaches are signed and bought out all the time. This buy-out will be quick. That performance tonight, if it keeps happening, will put wheels in motion. They looked uncoached, unready, inept, but most importantly uncaring. There is nothing to take from that game to "build on" and that's how coaches get fired. If they miss a bowl, it's sealed.

I hope he isn’t the next Turner Gill.

Remember when everyone thought he was the next big thing and people were mad he wasn’t getting opportunities?

Charles Barkley was mad Auburn didn’t hire him and blamed it on Race. Then Chizik went out and won Auburn a national title.

It doesn't matter to me what FSU does. My only point is that they chased Jimbo Fisher into A&Ms arms after he had only one losing season. And he won them a NC and multiple 10 win seasons. How much more expendable is Taggart, a guy who is 2-14 vs the top 25 team. He is on a very short leash.

He had five months to prepare for last night, and if that was any indication, he won't sniff five wins this year.

Stop, you're just throwing out ridiculous comment after ridiculous comment.

Taggart's contract is vested, its been written about at least a dozen times at BR, Yahoo, ESPN. Unless he breaks an NCAA rule, or commits a crime, it will cost FSU 30 million dollars to fire him. It is not happening this year.

This does not look or sound like a coach who will win many games at a major P5 school

In Nick Saban's first year at Alabama he lost to Louisiana-Monroe.

In Pete Carroll's first year at USC, he went 6-6 and in his opening game hung on to beat a shitty San Jose State team.

So outside of high school, has Willie Taggart had two good seasons in a row? Looking at his resume I see a couple 10-2s mixed in with 7-5 seasons and worse. Trying to see what the appeal was with him? 7-5 wont cut it at FSU.

Nick Saban's first 9 years coaching college football

    9-2 at Toledo
    6-5-1 at Michigan State
    6-6 at Michigan State
    7-5 at Michigan State
    6-6 at Michigan State
    8-3 at Michigan State
    8-4 at LSU
    10-3 at LSU
    8-5 at LSU

Then finally in year 10-- YEAR 10, Saban won the title at LSU.

He lost his first 3 bowl games.

Went 4-5 in all bowl games prior to winning it all.

I am not saying Willie is Saban, I am saying it is not easy to judge any coach.

Agreed. I never understood the hype either.

It wasn’t just that FSU lost. It was how they lost. They looked totally unprepared.

As for Saban and his mediocrity, he is the exception to the rule. There is like one Nick Saban in the history of the game.

Guys like Urban Meyer, Bob Stoops, Jim Tressel, Kirby Smart, Jimbo Fisher, etc didn’t struggle. They won big early.

Taggart just seems like a perennial 8-4 type coach. FSU has too much talent to get dominated by Va. Tech like that.

Maybe I’ll be wrong. Time will tell.

    Willie Taggart = Charlie Strong

Don't get me wrong, they are good men, even good coaches on some level, and great role models at smaller programs. But put them into a major program where they are facing other genius coaches who have blue chip recruits, they get smoked. Charlie Strong is right where he needs to be at USF, and he will do well there. He'll even get some major upsets. But he failed horribly in the high-pressure glare of Texas. Willie Taggart, same story I predict. He will probably be at a FAU or Memphis type program in 5 years.

to compete in big time you need big time recruits if you dont get them well... strong didnt get them at Texas from what I can tell, saban is only doing what he's doing because he gets the best of the best.

    Exactly.

Saban wasn't beating anyone until he started packing his rosters with SEC kids.

Whoever gets the horses- wins. Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia- are all at the top of every recruiting service.

Now Taggart is accusing VT of faking injuries to slow down his offense
    Are you F'in kidding me??
He should be thanking them for slowing down the turnover and penalty machine he put out on the field

Now I feel comfortable saying he won't win or last
Anyone that could have a team that dysfunctional and get it's ass kicked as badly as they did and blame the other team for faking injuries, is a loser

    FSU down 13-0 to Sanford.

WTF was FSU doing at the end of the half.

They had a chip shot FG but threw a pass over the middle, got tackeled, and time ran out...

    Lol. Nice coaching.

Best thing for Oregon was Taggert bailing after 1 season. He would have been run out of town on a rail after a couple more 7-5 seasons. Never understood why every team was chasing this guy. And I'm sure the idiot AD at FSU gave this clown a huge buyout if they fire his ass.

I heard from a reliable source that FSU actually thought they hired Taggart, the fat detective from the Beverly Hills Cop movies

    True story

Oregon is off to a nice start this year Some in the local sports media are having a good laugh about it. Everyone was completely butt hurt when Taggart bailed but it's looking like one of luckier things to happen recently.

Yeah, this is one of the more surprising story lines of the young season. I never thought it would go this bad either. They aren't just bad..... they are terrible.
