Was Central Michigan vs Western Kentucky the worst beat in sports history?

The reason I ask is because it happened on Christmas eve and was 1 of 2 bowl games being played that day so you know dudes were trying to win some money for gifts for their kids and ended up going broke.

I personally didn't have any money on it, but I remember all of the degenerates were pissed as fcck. That had to have been the most depressing bad beat in sports history and in my area it was dark and raining the entire day.

Or was there one that was worse?

49-14 in the 3rd quarter..... Jesus

It was certainly of epic proportions. One of those games where hope is lost. There was no possible way they'd cover. But they did.

Defies logic. That's what makes sports great.

There's nothing that could be worse than the bad beat of Baylor vs UNLV in 1999. Baylor was covering and going in for a score with seconds left. They could have knelt on the ball and won but the Baylor coach wanted to add a TD for some god only knows reason. Fumble on the one yard line and UNLV returns it 99 yards for a TD and three point win.

i rememeber them all except baylor iowa st, i actually think that ones the worst.

a team hasnt scored all game and they get a long td less then a minute left and then a kickoff return for a td is what was needed for the over and it happens.

no coincidences retired for a while after that georgia game from what i remember

wku was like -3 so that was horrible because central michigan goes for the 2 so you have no chance at ot

penn st and florida st had a ridiculous over in a bowl game about 10 years ago

Georgia Tech/Georgia two years ago. Uga had about a 99.5% chance to win according to ESPN but Mark Richt decides to pooch the kickoff for 15 yards with like 10 seconds left. Tech hits a quick pass then a career long FG to send into overtime

theres probably many games lost due to guys like Richt, Andy Reid, Herm Edwards clock management butchering.

really nothing compares to this wku game. Maybe oilers/bills playoff eons ago. The sequence of events in that wku are unprecedented

I was on the winning side of Miami vs Florida back in 85. Miami scored a TD with less than a minute left and then Florida threw 2 pick 6's to give Miami the cover.

Worst loss I had was in college hoops. Had Providence +5.5 vs Georgetown. Maybe 87 or so. They were down 4 with .3 seconds left had the ball out of bounds at midcourt. For whatever reason GT defended the inbound pass and the Prov guy called a time-out. No TO's left so they teed him up. 2 FT's later GT wins by 6

LeVeon Bell scoring a TD as time expired in Chargers Steelers last year is worst beat. 2 seconds left and they run the ball.

Coach Steele was going for the cover. Backfired big-time.

That was an all-timer for many reasons. One of those games where Oregon could have named the score.

They must have gone into the halftime locker-room and tapped into the keg. Whole different 2nd half, helped by Oregon QB getting injured.

Lol I had western Kentucky ML that game and I remember turning off the TV and playing some Xbox with my bro. Then I check the score and see they came back and I started swearing at the TV. At least they didn't convert at the end or I would have gone insane.

But my worst beat was my first official legal sports bet that started my career. In was 2013 and the Packers were playing the Bengals week 1 I think. I had Packers -3 and there was maybe 1 minute left in the game or so and the Packers were in Bengals territory. Basically the Packers fumbled the ball and the Bengals returned it for a touchdown and the win. It was a sign I know see...

1986 AFC Championship. Pats at Broncos. 21 yrs old and in the hole deep. Of course we have to double up to break even. A ton on Pats and over 40. Tight game. 20 - 17 Broncos with a couple minutes left. Pats stop Broncos to force punt. Great. Pats still covering and if can score over is hit. If not, worst is split. Instead of letting punt go into end zone, Irving Friar fair catches punt at the 1 yard line. ???
1st play, Tony Eason crumbles in the end zone for a safety. 22 - 17 final. Lose both bets. I still get a stomach ache when i think about it.
