Jimmy Proffett's Beat the Prick picks; plus other NCAA picks (version 2.0)

    Good evening magistrates and noblemen:

I started a thread last year like this with my picks in the Prick contest; Imma start another one. I'll just put it in College Betting b/c I spend most of my time looking at CFB.

So Week 1.... and here we go!

Pick 1: Louisiana Tech vs Western Kentucky over 60.5

Starting out the season well; was all over this game. The total inexplicably dropped from 67 at open to 60 in some places. Hey let them do what they do, I will take Jeff Driskel and Brandon Doughty putting up over 30 each all day long

    Pick 2: UMass +13 @ Colorado

This was a 41-38 final last season. UMass returns most of their offense that torched the Buffs last year. They also have the luxury of seeing Colorado game film from last week. This is UMass's 1st game, no such info for Colorado.

    Pick 3: Hawaii +41 @ Ohio St

Honestly it just seems like way too many points. VT actually was able to move the ball through the air at times against the Buckeye D. I expect the Rainbows to score 2 or 3 TD's. And I also expect Urban to experiment with different QB's and situations when they have the big lead, which I'm sure they'll get early on.

Pick 4: Texas A&M -29 vs Ball State

Nothing much to say here; Ball State is bad and Texas A&M will have 40+ points by halftime. And they won't let up; they need style points playing in the SEC.

    Pick 5 (2x): Stanford -19 vs UCF

Everybody's jumping off of Stanford after that abysmal display last Saturday @ Northwestern.

This team is still full of talent. I don't know why they fell apart last week, but don't expect that lack of effort in a Saturday night game at home. Central Florida did have a top Defense last year, but they're starting a boatload of freshmen in the secondary now. If Stanford's line can hold off the pass rush, I think Hogan turns this into a redemption game of sorts.

    Happy Gambling to everyone

    4-1 Record Last Week
    4-1 Record YTD

Week 2 of Beat The Prick. Here are my plays:

Pick 1: Florida State -9 @ Boston College

Not much to say here. I just think FSU has way more talent in all aspects. I like the fact that they have the #1 FG kicker also.

Pick 2: Notre Dame +2.5 vs Georgia Tech

I like this veteran Notre Dame defensive squad. They've seen the option plenty in their time at South Bend w/ games against Navy every year. I don't think the Irish lose a step with Kizer in place of Zaire. I see a back-and-forth game and if it's close, I trust Notre Dame's offense more than GT trying to throw to score late.

Pick 3: USC -10 vs Stanford

A revenge game pick. I'm not impressed with Hogan or David Shaw running things. Cody Kessler is the real deal; USC's weapons will be too much for the Cardinal.

Pick 4: Cleveland +1 vs Tennessee (NFL)

Going with 2 NFL games this week. I really like this game; Everybody's crowning Mariota after Game 1. Bad move imo, let's see how he does in a real hostile environment. I know the Browns lost by 21 last week; anybody watching that game knows the Browns shot themselves in the foot over and over again. 12 penalties, should've scored on their 1st drive of 90 yards, Marshall stole an int from the Browns early on, 5 turnovers, etc....

    Pick 5: Baltimore -6.5 @ Oakland (NFL) (2x bet)

The Raiders are just way too banged up; they're actually awful regardless. Flacco loves to decimate the worst defenses (see: last year against the Buccaneers) and that's what happens Sunday afternoon.

    Alright gamblers, stay classy

3-2 Record Last Week (-0.25 units)
    7-3 Record Overall (+3.60 units)

I'm going with 5 CFB games this week; I need a positive week, gotta keep up with That Prick.

    Pick 1: Georgia Tech -7.5 @ Duke

Revenge for two reasons in this one. Yellow Jackets looked really impotent last week against a top-notch Irish defense; they have a good chance to run up yards and points on Duke who was projected to finish last in the ACC against the run. And last year the Blue Devils were the benefactors of a +3 turnover margin, an hour-long weather delay, and facing a banged-up Justin Thomas in winning last year. GT by over 2 TD's.

Pick 2: Boston College -4.5 vs N. Illinois

    N. Illinois almost did the impossible last week and knocked off #1. They had 190 yards of offense though; now travelling to face a Boston College team that held FSU to 1 offensive TD.

    Pick 3: Tennessee -1.5 @ Florida (2x bet)

Tennessee has better coaching, more experience (18 returning starters), better QB play (not sold on Grier just yet), a revenge motive comes into play again (lost 10-9 last year).... Everything points to a Vols win

Pick 4: Auburn -3 vs Miss St

It's do-or-die for the Tigers if they still have playoff hopes. Looks like they're gonna shake things up at QB with Sean White coming into the action. This won't be a drop-off in talent. Auburn can pull out all the stops w/ San Jose St up next.

    Pick 5: Georgia Southern -15.5 @ Idaho

Because RunGSU will run over the Vandals. That's what they do. And they made a much better team like Western Michigan look bad.

    Good luck gamblers

1-4 Record Last Week (-4.37 units)
    8-7 Record Overall (-0.77 units)

Welp, time to bounce back off the mat I guess . These are gonna be short; I'm flu-ridden.

Pick 1: Georgia Tech -7 vs North Carolina

North Carolina's played cupcakes and are still giving up 230 yds rushing a game. This Yellow Jacket team will take out frustrations on the Tarheels this week.

Pick 2: Buffalo +8 vs Bowling Green (2x bet)

Last year this game ended 36-35 Bowling Green. Both teams had 1 turnover. Both teams return their core offensive starters. This year the game's in Buffalo. I see another back-and-forth game.

Pick 3: SMU +6 vs ECU

Lotsa scoring. SMU can hang with anyone offensively. ECU coming off of a big win against their sort-of nemesis VT; possible look-ahead for them with BYU coming up next.

    Pick 4: Texans +6.5 @ Atlanta

Because the Falcons are severly overrated right now.

    Pick 5: Chiefs +4 @ Bengals

    See Pick 4

Here are my Week 5 picks. Just fade them and win millions.

Pick 1: Kansas +45 vs Baylor

Because 45 is a big number.

    Pick 2: BYU - 8 vs ECU

I don't know; the Mormons haven't blown anyone out yet.

Pick 3: Hawaii -2 vs San Diego St (2x)

This is my 2x bet b/c I want to sweat the last game of the night. That's the only reason. Whatever.

Pick 4: Chiefs -9 vs Bears

Because the Bears won last week and Chiefs looked like ass last week.

    Pick 5: Patriots -8 @ Cowboys

Because Belichick and Brady after their bye week. And because Weeden.
