    As is normally the case, the SEC leads all conferences with eight teams -- over half the league -- ranked, including three in the top 10. All total, 13 of the 14 SEC teams received votes in the poll.


    Mississippi State (164 votes) and Texas A&M (149) finished in the 26th and 27th slots, respectively. Other high vote-getters that failed to crack the top 25 include Oklahoma State (89) and Virginia Tech (70).

    Ohio Sate has started the season #1 on 8 different occasions, including this one, in the AP poll. They were not #1 at the end of any of those first 7 seasons.
