The Big 12 is on the defensive when it comes to the College Football Playoff selection process. Their "One true Champion" campaign is not going very well, according to many experts. The Big 12 is the only conference that does NOT have a Conference championship game. The current belief is that the Selection Committee will base it's selections on the winners of the CC games and strength of schedule. The Big 12 strikes out on both counts. Not only do they not have a CC game, the two favorites to win the Conference, Oklahoma and Baylor, have schedule strengths of 93 and 67 respectively. That is going to get them nowhere unless they go undefeated. If, in fact, the playoffs are going to be all about wins and SOS, the Big 12 has a major problem. They will play one less game than the other four Conference Champions. Many think that unless the Big 12 Champion actually finishes with a better W-L record than the Champions of the other four conferences, they will not even be in the discussion.

Whether all of this is true or not remains to be seen, but the fact that it is even being discussed is bad news for the Big 12. None of the other "Big 5" conferences have this problem. Win your conference with 0 or 1 loss and you are probably in. The Big 12 does NOT have that luxury. While the Big 12 and schools like Baylor may talk a good game, the Big 12 had better start looking for two more schools to enter the conference. Once the percedent is set, it is almost impossible to break. The Big 12 has not exactly set the football world on fire of late, having just one team finish in the BCS top 4 sinnce 2010, that being Okie State in 2011. It is time for the Big 12 to come up with "Plan B", incase "Plan A" fails, as some think it will.
