The rule that forces offenses to wait for at least 10 seconds before they snap the ball after it has been marked ready for play appears to be dead. Troy Calhoun, Head Coach of the Air Force Academy and Chairman of the Rules Committee was foirst in favor of the rule, which was opushed by Alabama's Nick Saban, but now has had a change of heart. Calhoun said that unless there is substantial proof that defensers are more suspetable to injury without this rule, he will oppose the rule, just about guaranting it's defeat when it comes to a vote.
Saban, who'se athletes are notoriously slow (as shown in the Auburn and Oklahoma Games) and Arkansas Head Coach Bret Bielema were pushing for the passage of this rule. The real reason why is that Alabama and Arkansas both rank in the bottom ten when it comes to the number of plays they run. Their players may be talented, but they are slow. With the advent of the 4 team playoff and the 13 person commitee to select the four best teams, Saban is going to have to toughen up his very soft schedule, and that means playing more teams who use the no huddle offense. With so many on the Committee from the West Coast, Saban will NOT get the preferential treatment he has received in the past 7 years. SOS will play a huge part in determining who are the top 4 teams, and Alabama is on the short end of that measuring stick.
