So who is the favorite to land the Longhorns job?

I'm guessing either Franklin from Vandy or Jimbo out of Tallahassee

    I'm hearing Chip Kelly.

Eagles will most likely be eliminated after next weekend, and word is he's looking to get back in the college game.

    Jimbo already resigned.

Chip Kelly in Texas would be interesting.

James Franklin would be a great choice but he's not a sexy pick.

He's definitely a college coach more than an NFL fit but how would he fit in the current Texas roster? Would be a couple of years to get that system turned around to his style wouldn't it? And I'm sure the Texas big wigs want instant gratification especially with the Big 12 as it is now.

    gus to texas

once again proving that college coaching contracts are as good as toilet paper

According to a source, Malzahn has told friends privately that coaching the Longhorns is his dream job. If confronted with the choice between Auburn and Austin, it’s a no-brainer move for Malzahn to bolt. The best job in the Big 12 is a much more stable place than The Plains, as even a play-caller of Malzahn’s acumen isn’t likely to make adjustments to historical trends.

daneblazer you might as well add to your list, Woody Hayes, Bud Wilkerson, Ara Parseghian, Mick Jagger, Bill Clinton, BigQueenQH, as they have as good a chance as landing that job as any of those you mentioned.

Exactly this, seeing TX run an Oregon type offense would be goofy not to mention they would get run over by perennially bigger teams like OU and the like.

Baylor is a good offensive team but in no way are they as small as Oregon. Oregon is micro sized, Baylor is a bit bigger on offense.

    Fukin Opie.

Opie, Kelly still has a show-cause order against him from his time at Oregon.

Reporters are just too stupid and lazy to remember that.

All of the usual suspects re being mentioned, but 99% of this is nothing more than rumor. I seriously doubt that a pro HC would leave the pros to put up with all the caca you have to put up with in College Football. I'm guessing that the safe play for Texas is Franklin out of Vandy.

    Kelly's not coming boys.

It's the same reason why Jim Tressel has yet to be hired.

It would make absolutely no sense for Texas to hire a coach with an 18 month Show-Cause order.

    Why would they do that?

I agree. The only reason why Oregon was not banned from the Post Season this year was because Kelly took it on the Lamb. If he came back, the NCAA would be on him like a fly on the well known commodity.

Marty.....everyone is aware of the show cause order on Chip. While its not an ideal situation, its not nearly the obstacle to hiring a guy like Bruce Pearl's show cause order. Chip's is still doable. Not like this hasn't been known to everyone the entire time.
