1. Virginia Tech (-7) at East Carolina (12 ET, FSN)

It will be a matchup of strength versus strength, and weakness versus weakness when the Hokies and Pirates meet this Saturday. Virginia Tech’s offense ranks 96th nationally with an average of 337 yards per game, and there are plenty of question marks surrounding this unit, even after a 45-3 win over Western Carolina last week. Quarterback Logan Thomas is completing only 38.6 percent of his throws, and the Hokies did not complete a pass longer than 19 yards last week. If there’s a bright spot for Virginia Tech, the backfield – led by Trey Edmunds – has improved since last year. The Pirates gave up 430.7 yards per game in 2012 and have allowed 25.5 points a contest so far in 2013. Although East Carolina has struggled on defense, its offense is averaging 41.5 points a game. Quarterback Shane Carden is off to a fast start (638 yards), and he has a solid receiving corps, along with running back Vintavious Cooper (4.2 ypc) at his disposal.
